You know that feeling when a story gives you goosebumps? I love that feeling.
And the one where you read something that puts a lump in your throat and smoke in your eyes? I love that one too.
And the feeling that you know what's going to happen next, only to find out to your absolute delight that you couldn't have been more wrong? I love that feeling too.
I love reading stories that move me and challenge my assumptions and teach me something. I love the way a great author lures me in and takes me along for a fantastic ride.
I also love to write stories. It's how I spend my days and a good share of my nights, too. I'm on a quest to write the perfect story full of perfect sentences. I don't know if I'm anywhere close, but I enjoy the gentle struggle.
When I finished reading this book my first thought was “WOW.” I love a good thriller; however, this is the first thriller I have ever read that had espionage, conspiracy, brutal torture with, of course, a love plot. It gave me an understanding of what people that may be hired by the FBI, CIA and other groups are sent to foreign countries on behalf of the United States. The intense theme of this story kept me reading every spare minute I had.
In other books by Lars Emmerich, Quinn is a secondary player and not thoroughly developed. He is a powerful man who does evil things. In this book, Quinn is the main character and the story is told from his point-of-view. He is a delightfully complex character with more uncertainty than I would have expected. I really enjoyed the story.
Wow, this book was fabulous! I certainly hope more Quinn novels are in the works. I had a hard time putting this one down to get anything accomplished around my house but alas, houses need to be cleaned and food needs to be cooked! This book was brilliant, thoroughly engaging, intense and if CIA agents are even a little bit close to what Quinn was capable of, I have deep respect for them. They are beyond the average male by milestones! Can't wait to read the next book he comes out with.
International spy thriller about a rogue operative that falls in love with a Massaud operative. It's a fast read written in the first person narrative. There's plenty of twists and turns that keeps you guessing if the ex CIA spy is going to find the love of his life again and finally figure out who she really works for along with if they will have a life together.
I was very disappointed with this book. I actually paid for this one. It is too long, too detailed, and just not very interesting. It is structurally well written, and I do enjoy the author’s language facility. I have another novel by this author that I bought at the same time - perhaps it will appeal more.
A little confusing in places. I am not sure why Quinn would put so much effort into saving a woman he hardly knew, and who set him up. Plenty of adv3nture! But, missing something.
