Wyn is the pilot on the ISS Minos. Its a race to the ice moon of Europa to cure the disease destroying humanity’s crops. But not everyone on board seems to have the same agenda. Lois is an Interpol agent investigating the world’s worst criminals – those rich enough to get whatever they want and powerful enough to murder without consequence – and her cover’s been blown. Judd is hiding as far away from humanity as he can, working in a cheap tourist attraction on the Moon. But when an old man pries a long-forgotten secret from his head, he can no longer hide from the truth he’d buried even from himself. Because Judd is a telepath, and a weapon badly wanted by both sides of an unseen war. They might not know it, but each holds a key to Earth’s cure… and humanity’s survival. Well written story to start off an epic serial about saving Earth from starvation in the future and some gaming and espionage thrown in for good measure. Too short though, I need more!
...otherwise maybe not quite my thing. Don't get me wrong, the experiences of characters within each chapter are well written and the longer you stick with the changing back and forth between intertwined story lines, the more interesting it becomes. Most of the characters are likeable and I would have loved to read more about them in the same book because 'you just know' there is a lot more back-story to each of them. This being said, I'd probably kept reading if the first book hadn't ended where it did. Now I'm sitting here with several stories, each a few chapters in, none of them converging toward a common ground, YET. Cliffhangers are an awesome writing tool, but at the short length this book ends, I'm not quite satisfied in my reading experience due to too many loose ends in several story lines, which at this point still feel disjointed. That's why it seems more like a teaser to me. If you love to buy and follow serials, I can definitely recommend this book. Otherwise, you might have a similar experience like me. I did snag another book by this author, written in a different format (first in a trilogy) because I feel it will fit my reading style a lot better.
When I saw the book cover and read that this short is a sci-fi horror, I was intrigued to read it. This book is like a TV episode with multiple subplots and different character POVs. Some characters do shine while others only get one chapter. And I do like some of the suspension and actions the subplots provided. Unfortunately, nothing much happens in the main plot with the astronauts. I expected they will encounter something mysterious with a horror twist. But only the good moments happen on Earth. Sure, this is a serial and I have to buy the next books to find out what will happen. If you like sci-fi horrors and thrillers, this might be your cup of tea. However, you will need to save money to continue the story if the first book hooks you.
Free ebooks don't have a good reputation but this one is a real gem. It's better than many bestsellers I've read recently and it deserves more attention.
