All she was doing when she went to Ruth Fuller's bakery was to find out why her bread kept sinking in the middle. The last thing she expected was to find a body on the floor. Ruth begged Ettie to help find the killer, and Ruth had a wild theory. There were several people after her bread recipe, and a fight broke out among two groups of intruders. The police have a more simple scenario centered around the cash kept onsite. Since people traveled for miles to get Ruth's famous bread, Ettie had to wonder whether Ruth's scenario had some truth to it. Ettie was troubled by one thing she couldn't get out of her head. Why was the dead man found clutching a Bible? Can Ettie find out why the man was killed, who did it, and ... will she ever make a decent loaf of bread?

I just finished the 3rd book in the Ettie Smith Mystery series called Murder in the Amish Bakery by Samantha Price. This is another delightful cozy mystery about the two geriatric sister sleuths, Ettie and Elsa-May. In this story, Ettie’s bread keeps sinking in the middle and she calls her friend, Ruth Fuller, who runs the local bakery for help. She meets her at the bakery and they find a dead body with a knife in his back and a Bible clutched in his hand on the office floor. Ruth knows the man and thinks he broke in to steal her famous bread recipe. Ettie tries to find out who killed this man and why. During this adventure, Elsa-May, gets a puppy named Snowy, to add to the humor in the sisters household. Again I enjoyed this cozy mystery with many twists and turns.
Ruth Fuller owns the largest bakery in town. Ruth makes a special loaf of bread. Her ingredients are her secret. Several people have made offers to buy her bakery but only if her secret recipe is included in the buy. Also there is a condition that Ruth would not make her bread after the sale except for herself. No way is she selling!! Ettie Smith lives with her sister Elsa-May. They are both widows so this is a great arrangement for them. Ettie is making bread that keeps sinking in the middle. She calls Ruth for help. Ruth tells Ettie to meet her at the bakery at 3:00 AM. That is when Ruth gets to her store to prepare for the day. While showing Ettie around the bakery, Ruth opens her office door. They find a dead man with a knife in his back clutching Ruth's Bible in his hand. Who is this? How did he get into the locked store when only Ruth had the key? Who could have done this horrendous deed? Was the secret recipe the reason for the break-in??? The array of characters are very realistic and very interesting. The plot is engaging with many twists and turns. All the ingredients are there for a good read. This is book #3 in the Ettie Smith Amish Mystery series. It can be read as a stand without any problems as the author blend the past and present together effortlessly.
Murder in the Amish Bakery is book 3 in the Ettie Smith Amish Mysteries by Samantha Price, I am so loving this series. Never know where Ettie might be but most of all usually stuck some where in a who done it mystery. Ilove Samantha's writtings she takes you through action page flipping story. I always can never put these books down. If you like a good mystery and some adventure pick it up. Better yet I know you will want to read book one and two also. I really love the characters. Samantha has researched really well the great characters she has in her books. I never figure out who the who done it is till the end of the book excellent writer to keep you guessing who did do it. Ettie is having trouble getting her bread to bake like it is suppose too. So she goes to the best bread baker in town to ask for help. Ruth has a bakery but she will not give you her famous bread recipe. They go to the bakery and the door is unlocked. Pretty soon Ettie hears a scream and looks there is a body on the floor with a big knife in the back. Who done it? Get this book you will love it.
MURDER IN THE AMISH BAKERY by Samantha Price book 3 " Ettie Smith Amish Mysteries" . This was such an intriguing story, that captured me from the beginning. Once again we have two sisters living together, with their daily dose of remarks, which brings chuckles. This has to do with making bread, that now is not turning out. How could this lead to murder. It was a matter she had to solve, and she contacted Ruth the community baker at her store. While enjoying a cup of tea together, something else had happened. A complex story of why Ruth stopped selling bread to the deceased man. Once again Ettie is involved. Each of these stories get more intriguing, and the characters are a delight. With the audio, with the voice of Heather Henderson, brings an added delight for readers. Looking forward to more in this series. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
I am really enjoying the series quite a bit. Ettie Smith is extremely clever and the books have great plots. I also like the characters. The books never seem to end quite the way you would think or really with the person you thought was going to be the guilty party being the one who actually did it. This one had a really interesting twist in the motive. But of course I can’t say too much about it without spoiling at all for you. Let’s just say that it was definitely worth a read. I like the new addition to the cast of characters… I hope we see more of him!
Love this series. Ettie seems to always be around when a body is found. And this time she needs to help her friend Ruth who makes the best bread in the area. Ettie's bread kept sinking in the middle so she visits Ruth early one morning to find out why. When they enter Ruth's shop they find the body of a man that wants to buy Ruth's secret bread recipe. Ettie starts investigating because she thinks the police are going in the wrong direction on suspects. Plus people seem to open up up to women wearing knapps. Great read, very cozy and some great humor. Will continue this series until the end.
A page turner. One thing about Samantha Prices is that she makes you feel that you are there and you are sitting and looking at a scene before you and just like Miss Marple you forget their age, you can even imagine the little white ball, I have had a room with my rubbish bin reorganised
Ettie is having trouble with her bread so she goes to see Ruth to see what she is doing wrong and they find a man murdered in her bakery. Several suspects lost of information
I really enjoyed this book and its storyline and characters. It was a slower read and a little over done in the middle, but it still was a clean read and I would recommend it to anyone.
Another great murder mystery. Can't wait to read the next book in the series. Ettie is turning into a great investigator. I recommend this series to all. Samantha Price is a fantastic writer.
This is my third installment of Ettie Smith mysteries and I am enjoying every twist and turn the cases take. I also like to see the interaction between Amish and other people (Englishcer).
The characters aren't flamboyant but are just plain folk that have to help their neighbor. Ettie seems to always get her nose into business that the police wish she wouldn't. Good read!
Easy to put down. Slow paced and stodgy writing. Could not finish. And I read these types of books solely for mindless entertainment. Didn’t even reach that level for me.
I have completely fell in love with these two siblings. I can read one book in a week. I love mysteries who involves some humor. I would recommend these series to anyone.
Very interesting and well written book that encompasses both the Amish and a mystery. I encourage you to read the series. No have enjoyed all I have read.
Who would think that trying to find an answer to why her bread was sinking in the middle would land Ettie Smith in the midst of another murder mystery? Ettie has been baking bread for years, but lately it just doesn't turn out right, after talking to her sister Elsa-May she decides to call Ruth Fuller, who just happens to own a local bakery, and has the best bread around. Ruth invites Ettie to the shop to try and figure out what's going on with Ettie's bread, but instead they find a dead man in Ruth's office, clutching a Bible. Turns out a few people had been interested in purchasing Ruth's bread recipe, but would someone kill for it? One things for sure and certain Ettie will be lending a hand in order to find out!
I love this series and while I always enjoy reading the books, I always hate thinking that I have to wait for the next installment. Samantha Price really has become one of my favorite writers because she provides plenty of twists within her mysteries, while also allowing glimpses into the lives of Ettie and her sister Elsa-May, a pair of widowed Amish sisters who live together. While Ettie truly has a penchant for solving mysteries, Elsa-May is always a good sounding board. It is so easy to imagine these two sisters, while older, both are as sharp as tacks, sometimes funny, and overall easy to care for characters. I love the addition of Snowy to the mix, and look forward to seeing him in future stories. Now on to the mystery, it was well thought, moves quickly and provides more than a few suspects for the reader to consider. While there were a few editing issues in the story, it doesn't take away from the flow of the story, or my enjoyment in reading it. Fans of Amish fiction will certainly enjoy this book ,and entire series for that matter, but anyone who enjoys a page turning mystery that isn't easy to solve will probably enjoy it as well! I am hooked on this series and can't wait to read the next installment.
I learned a lot more about various aspects of Amish life, or at least how Samanth Price has made it come to life! Could Ettie handle her inheritance? Did Ruth put emphasis on her most prized possession? You will not want to put this down! I received an A.R.C. of this book.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...

2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
