Falling for Him

A beautiful and quirky, curvy girl falls for the sexy, single dad she meets on vacation before she’s forced to return to real life…

I live my life trying not to end up as a cautionary tale in one of my true crime podcasts. So, I definitely don’t do one-night stands.

But when my friends catch me drooling and dare me to talk to the sexy man I’ve been staring at all night across a crowded bar, I somehow find myself walking over to him and blurting out… I can’t even repeat what I said. I blame the tequila. I blame all the tequila!

I wake up the next morning in the bed of Maui’s sexiest, single dad – thankfully, with all my vital organs intact – and I'm sure that I'll never see him again. But when he tells me he’s not done with me yet, my perfect one-night stand turns into a perfect vacation fling.

I better enjoy it while it lasts because the clock is ticking on my week in paradise with the sexy, single dad I didn’t know I needed in my life.

Overall I liked this book. Veronica and her "friends" are on vacation in Hawaii. She sees Ty at the bar one night and goes up to him and she goes home with him. They end up spending the whole week together. Of course they fall in love but still go their separate ways. Luckily after some drama and complications they get their happy ending.

Mercer Scott, Falling for Him’.
Falling in Maui, book 1.

As an ARC reader I received a free copy of this book and promised an honest review. Here it is.

Rating: 3 (of 5 stars).

In general: A complicated holiday love.

Main characters:
- Veronica Rollins (28).
She’s a HR manager at a big pharmaceutical company in San Francisco. With her four best, hard working girlfriends Veronica travels to Maui for a much needed relaxing vacation week.

- Ty Graham (30).
After his parents died in a car accident he became owner of Graham Construction one of Hawaii’s leading construction companies when he was 18 years old. Now he’s the CEO of the Company. And he has to care for his little sis, Chloe (16).

Veronica and Ty both are single; he has no time for dating because of his job and the care for his sister and ‘V’ (Veronica) is too serious for superficial relationships and too anxious for long term commitments.
But in the first bar the girls go to during their vacation, Veronica is challenged by her friends to pick up a very good looking man. Completely against her character and a bit tipsy, V accepts the dare and asks Ty for a date. It’s the start of a complicated romance.
The author, Mercer Scott, describes how the relationship develops in spite of V’s only staying on Maui for a week and Ty’s bondage to Maui thanks to his company and his young sister. The author creates some very nice characters, sometimes funny petting scenes and sassy dialogues. And all that on an exotic isle with a heavenly climate.
After finishing the book I still had some questions:
- how is it possible that an intelligent, experienced woman as Veronica, is afraid of serial killers or ghosts? And mentions her fears aloud to Ty during one of her first dates with him??
- why mentioning the fact that V’s company has the same owner as an important possible client of Ty’s company, while this fact has not any influence on the course of the story?
But, all in all, for me this Maui-novel was a pleasure to read.

Veronica doesn’t know what she was thinking when she allowed her besties to convince her to walk right up to the hot guy she’s been eying across the room all night, but for some reason, she does. Stunned when she’s not immediately shot down, Veronica and the mysterious stranger (Ty) have a magically steamy night together. Only problem? Neither one of them is ready to let go once it’s morning.

Ty is a single parent, he’s been raising his kid sister Chloe since she was 4 and he was 18, and he feels he doesn’t have time for anything beyond his job and his sister. But when he sees Veronica at a bar one night, he can’t help being instantly attracted to her. And after what was supposed to be a one night stand, he isn’t ready to let her go.

It could never work, could never be anything more than a vacation fling. Ty’s life is here in Maui, and when the week is over, Veronica will get on a plane to San Francisco and never look back. But as they spend more time together, they get more attached… and now it looks like neither one of them is going to walk away unscathed.

Oh my gosh. Scott completely slays me yet again with this series! I did things out of order as I read Natalia’s and Lara’s stories first, but I knew I had to go back and see what happened with Veronica. And she did not disappoint! I loved Veronica and Ty together. Their relationship was fun and sexy, and their chemistry was insane. I can’t wait to continue with this series!!!

This is a story about a shy young woman who never takes chances until her friends convince her during a trip to Maui to go for it. With the help of a few drinks Veronica finally works up enough courage to go after the hottie she's been looking at since he walked in. Veronica never in her live walked up to a stranger hottie and propositioned him and is shocked when she isn't turned down. Veronica has the most magical night of her live with the handsome stranger and isn't ready to let go in the morning. Ty had to step up and be a father at a young age to raise his toddler sister and learn to run his father's company. Ty and his team receive great news and go out to celebrate he sees a beautiful woman who captivates him and to his surprise walks up to him, the blurt the first thing on her mind shocking and arousing him. His attraction to her is instant and what should have been a one-night fling turns out to be more because he isn't ready to let her go in the morning. Their instant, steamy, sexy, all-consuming love affair will blow your mind, however Veronica's insecurities can destroy them in an instant. Ty lives, works on his family business and raises his sis Chloe in Maui while Veronica lives in San Francisco their relationship is tested and neither will walk away unscathed. I absolutely love this story!

Curvy girl Veronica heads to Hawaii with her sleek and sexy friends, the Maui bitches, for a week of delights and debauchery. Well, debauchery for her friends, not herself, because Veronica feels she is the least likely to have a vacation fling.

Ty, pushed into socializing, sits on the sidelines at a bar watching everyone else get into the flirting game. Since the death of his parents, he has too many obligations to behave irresponsibly. He hasn't let loose in months, and with a major project on the horizon, this night might be his last opportunity for a long time.

First night drinking releases "Lizard Brain Veronica" (I laughed out loud over her third person view of herself) allowing her brain stem (lizard brain) functions such as fight, flight, and *ding, ding, ding* fornication to take over.

Veronica solicits Ty for sexy debauchery and the game is on! But, the path to happiness isn't easy, and trust is just one of the many obstacles in their way.

These characters will capture your heart, and you'll root for them every step of the way. This book had it all, including a satisfying happy ever after.

An advanced reading copy was obtained from the author. The honest review is my own.

This book was hard to start because the group of 5 women who are supposed to be best friends aren't really friendly with each other. They go on a trip to Hawaii and push Veronica's buttons. With a little liquid courage, she gives into peer pressure and goes after Ty. He really seems to like V but she has hangups that make her doubt everything several times in the story. The characters are a bit immature from V to her friends to Chloe (OK, she's a teen but her attitude was ridiculous at the end) to even Ty. For the most part, Ty was the sane one in the story but then even he was written to be a bit childish towards the end. This is the first book I have read from the author so I was not familiar with their work. I won't be reading any other books in the series because I did not find any other characters endearing enough to follow. This could have been a really good story if the characters, dialogue, etc was a bit more polished. This is a voluntary review of an advance reader copy received by Hidden Gems.

It grew on me:
I didn't really enjoy the beginning part of the book but I am glad that I persisted as it only got better and I became really fond of these two. Initially I found it a bit immature for my taste and I didn't always like how these friends spoke to each other. However when the story became more about the main characters forming a relationship, then my enjoyment of it greatly improved.
Veronica was on vacation in Maui where she ended up having a one night stand with local businessman Ty. However their fling was quickly extended yet the clock was ticking as she had to return home at the end of the week. They had quite a few obstacles to overcome and had to learn to take a chance on love. I really enjoyed seeing their personal growth and maturation.
I thought the ending was heartfelt and sweet. Overall this was a solid debut novel and I look forward to seeing what lies ahead for this crazy group of women!

This was an okay for me, I think it could use a good editing to improve the flow of the story. While I found the story promising I found it too wordy-I understand including friends but 3 or 4 tangent story lines just seem too overloaded, pick one or two storyline for a better pacing. Veronica goes to Maui on a girls trip only to fall into a fling with a local started out as a drunken dare. Ty's on his own for the week, his little sister out of town and not his responsibility so when a beautiful woman approaches him and offers him a fun time he's game. The one night stand extends to a vacation fling both don't want it to end but distance is a big obstacle. Between catty friends, a jealous coworker, a teenager drama queen, and Veronica's self doubts/hang-ups and quick to jump to conclusions, oh and long distance relationship I felt this story went into too many directions and dragged out the stories in too many directions

I love Ty. He took a chance on a woman who just walked up to him in a bar and made a proposition to a one-night stand. They both started to be more than casual sex. Veronica was a shy and not so bold like her friends. She was forced to be bolder than her normal boring life and to take a chance on someone who could fulfill her for her time in Maui. As the week progressed, so did their time together. After a wonderful time, they kept up their relationship. One night at a bar with friends, someone Ty works with came up to him drunk and tried to get him to do more than hang out. Veronica has been jealous of his co-worker and she assumed the worse. She left him and they both became miserable. To become happy again, with Ty, she must stretch beyond her usual self and get what she wants and who she wants. She will do what it takes. Will her let her come back?

Stand alone story

I would recommend this book to readers looking for a lot of steamy scenes, especially if you like the high school/college characters living-in-the-moment without a lot of self confidence. The characters here are older, but because of the lack of confidence it felt more similar to a college setting.

I struggled to finish this one because of the repeated insecurities, the frequent hot/cold flips, and more insecurities. The chapters leading up to the end were super confusing with characters actions not seeming logical or consistent with the descriptions of feelings, and at some points they were just cruel. Some elements of the story were introduced but never followed up on, and there were quite a few typos.

I did like that the HEA didn’t just simply appear after the week long vacation, and I liked that communication eventually became important.

Veronica is on vacation in Maui with her college friends. A night out in a local dive bar will change her life in ways she couldn't imagine. Ty's friend convinces him that a night out at their favorite bar will help him to relax from a stressful week at work. The last thing he expects is to meet the beautiful, curvy girl he wants to marry.
Funny, well written, and compelling characters falling in love and trying to negotiate the obstacles thrown in their way by distance, and in Veronica's case, life experience that was not always positive. I think this is a wonderful, amusing, happily ever after romance with surprising twists that kept me reading to the last page.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Veronica and a few of her best friends decide to spend a week vacation in Maui. Their first night there they decide to go out where Veronica can not stop staring at a guy. Her friends in a way dare her to just go up to him tell him you want in. Shes had just enough liquid courage that she does just that. Ty decides to go out with his best friend. His kid sister is away for the week so he goes out. A woman comes to his table and says she wants to sleep with him and this story takes off. I love that they are drawn to each other. And the happy ending is so good. Great read with funny moments.

Calling for Him

-1 star for poor editing, it drives me a little nuts having to go over a sentence to make sense of it. I liked Ty, he was a little special and Veronica annoyed me with her insecurities. I liked the characters and the way the story played out, but, it fell down for me when Veronica failed to admit to Ty about her body issues and her previous experiences with an ex cheating, details that Veronica should have admitted if they were going to be honest with each other. Ty also should have told Veronica what he said to Dana. Important elements missing to create a trusting relationship. The

Overall, I liked the story, though I don't know if I cared much for Veronica's friends. The first few establishing chapters seemed slow and it took me a while to get into the story.

Vacation in Maui

For me, the story was alright. I think this book would have benefited from an editor. A lot of it needed to be tightened up, the end seemed to drag on a little too long and there was a lot of repetition in the dialogue and narrative. The characters, while a little two dimensional, were likable. I almost stopped reading at about 20%, but I pushed through. Overall, I’d say the story was cute, light read.

When you can't figure out why he loves her

I enjoyed this story enough to read the next. There may have been some room for improvement- it was hard for me to see why Ty was falling for Veronica outside of the sheets. Veronica seemed so immature that I found myself rooting for a not happily ever after. She was quiet annoying.

The typos were also almost as annoying as Veronica.
