That was so twisty and I had my smug rug pulled out from me a number of times! I love dual timeline narrations in this genre as layers are peeled back slowly through the jumps in time. Elena is excellent at creating a feeling of growing unease. Things seem smooth on the surface but you start to get an uncomfortable glimpse at that problems roiling beneath. A good murder mystery and I'll be on the look out for books from this author.

What I enjoyed about this book was that it was so unpredictable. I thought I knew what was going on but I was wrong. The ending was perfect and actually made the book for me. We have 2 timelines (frankie when she was in care ) and (frankie as a young woman). So many twists and turns and the intensity was on par. This book is all about secrets , revelations, and revenge.

Our main character Frankie's upbringing had been very tough, at the age of three, she had been discarded like a bag of rubbish in a derelict building. She had eventually been discovered by a kindly man called Frank and found herself in the care system. After spending her life in care, at the age of seventeen, she thought that she had finally found love in the shape of a volunteer at her foster home called Martin. But one night everything went wrong after she had a argument with Martin and a girl called Charlotte at a party. The next day, Charlotte's body is found in the canal near Martin's houseboat and he is arrested and charged with her murder. After the court case, Frankie found herself living in the home of Vanessa and Peter Vale, who just happened to be Charlotte's parents. But were they the caring couple they appeared to be? Why did their son Jack keep insisting that Frankie shouldn't trust them?

Fifteen years later, Frankie is now married to Alex, is a social worker and is prepared to do everything in her power including bending the rules to help the youngsters who are in her care. She absolutely loves her job but Alex's business is failing, his self esteem has hit rock bottom and due to Frankie's recent behaviour, is convinced that she is cheating on him. Unbeknownst to Alex, Frankie has been receiving silent phone calls and love letters and is convinced that her secrets from the past have caught up with her. It appears that someone knows what she did all those years ago and is determined to make her pay for her actions and behaviour.

The story is narrated entirely from the perspective of Frankie and is set both in the present day and fifteen years in the past. Having been abandoned at a young age and brought up in the care system, it wasn't difficult to understand why she was such a vulnerable individual when she was younger. All most people want in life is to feel loved and wanted and after her upbringing, I didn't think it was very surprising how easily Frankie was manipulated by unscrupulous characters. There was more than one untrustworthy individual scattered throughout her life, characters who were not who they appeared to be and possibly hiding sinister dark desires and behaviour. Alex's actions and behaviour in the present day caused me to experience some feelings of guilt, I know what it's like to be overwhelmed by your feelings of paranoia and mistrust, they can actually become a obsession that takes over your thoughts 24/7. So, I could fully understand his conflicting feelings and emotions over his life with Frankie but that didn't mean that I thought his actions were justified or excusable. What were the secrets that Frankie didn't want Alex to know about? Who was behind the campaign against Frankie and so determined to destroy her life?

Omg, this addictive, cleverly written thriller has more twists and turns than a roller coaster and a water slide that have been combined together to form one hell of a fast paced thrill ride. The plot is intricate, keeps you guessing, glued to your kindle and has a cast of vivid, realistic characters. This is a absolutely brilliant psychological thriller, worth all the stars and more and very very highly recommended. This is definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.

Ultra twisty and shocking, “Keep My Secrets” by Elena Wilkes is the long and winding road of novels. Nothing and nobody are as they seem. Even the story itself is not as it seems. When Frankie receives anonymous notes, she seems afraid of the sender. Yet, her stalker seems like more of a lovesick admirer than a threat. And the big secret Frankie’s trying to hide? You wonder why she just doesn’t tell her husband, because it’s doesn’t seem as bad as she makes it out to be — once she tells you what it is. In addition, there are a lot of characters with a lot of loose ends. Although they’re not hard to keep track of, it’s a challenge figuring them out.

Alternating between the past and the present, “Keep My Secrets” weaves the story of Frankie’s past and what she believed happened fifteen years ago with her current life. The contrast between the two is startling at first. If Frankie had been a more likeable character, it would have been easy to root for her to able to keep what happened a secret because her current life is a good one. But the way she behaved in the past combined with the way she lets her husband agonize in present-day does nothing to endear her to you. At times, you’re more wary of her than the stalker. There are plenty of suspenseful, tension filled moments throughout, but when the past and present finally collide, it’s impossible not to be shocked by what goes down.

“Keep My Secrets” is a complicated, multi-layered tale that becomes more addicting the further you read. If you gloss over pages or rush through, you’re likely to miss out on the detail, scene, or chapter that sucks you in completely and compels you to read through to the end. This book requires your full attention, and it’s not what I’d ever call fast-paced, but it’s well worth picking up.

Thank you to Hera Books and author Elena Wilkes for the gifted ARC.

Most people have things they prefer not to share and that's quite alright. The majority of those 'secrets' are often silly things they are ashamed of or just feel like they are too personal to talk about. Here and there though there are people who hide something massive, hoping to to keep them there for no one tp find out. But as per usual there is always someone who is aware of them and one day they will force you to face your demons.

The story is about Frankie and the author alternates past and present in order to give us the right background information to show where the present is based on. I have to admit she did not always make the right decisions, but in her favor I can understand why. She was young, vulnerable and longed to have something she missed out on from  the moment she was born. She wanted to be loved and to belong somewhere. This made her an easy target for others to manipulate her and get what they wanted.

Sometimes those who are the kindest, are the ones you should be aware of...

This is a twisty journey. I had put my money on someone and I am happy to say I won. :) But the author had some surprises up her sleeve I never expected. I loved the heart warming ending.

I had a good time reading this book. 4 stars

Thank you

Keep My Secrets by Elena Wilkes

Twists and turns in this gripping tale of crime, passion, and murder. Who is truly evil, slightly evil, innocent, guilty, loving, twisted…it takes quite a while to find out the truth in this story that had me guessing till the very end.

What I liked:
* Not knowing for sure who the worst of the worst truly was till nearly t he very end.
* The way the story was told. I don’t always like flipping from the past to the present but it worked well in this book.
* Frankie: tough childhood, did well for herself eventually, has secrets, deserves better…hope she finds happiness eventually.
* Martin: not perfect but a man wronged in more ways than one.
* Being able to be angry for and with some of the characters
* Feeling the story was believable
* That everything was tied up neatly at the end of the story…or mostly so.
* That the baddies were exposed and dealt with
* That nobody was “perfect”
* The positive feel at the end of the story

What I didn’t like:
* Knowing that there are evil people like the ones in the story and they too often get away with crimes they commit.
* Frankie’s tough past and how she was treated
* Mostly the injustice and callous way some treated and/or manipulated others

Did I enjoy this book? I did
Would I read more by this author? Yes

Thank you to NetGalley and Hera Books for the ARC – This is my honest review

This is a story that will seriously mess with your head!

As soon as we meet Frankie, there is obviously something from her past that she is hiding. Over the course of the book, we get to find out more about her past as well as the effect it is having on things that are happening to her in the present. Let’s just say that all my senses were on red alert, whilst I waited for things to be revealed.

The author well and truly pulled the rug from under me more than a few times. Just as I thought I knew where the story was going and who could be behind what was going on, the story would do a total u-turn and I was back to square one trying to figure out how I could get it so wrong. Past and present collide with some explosive consequences.

Keep My Secrets was an absolute edge of your seat read that there was no way real life was going to tear me away from it. The revelations start to come thick and fast and wow, so many twists and turns that it left me completely dizzy! This is one dark and twisted read that is guaranteed to have your jaw dropping in shock. I had to keep pushing mine shut as I was so gobsmacked at a couple of surprises in particular that I one hundred percent did not see coming. Brilliant!

My thanks to Hera Books for an advanced readers copy of this book. All opinions are my own and not biased in anyway.

'Keep My Secrets' by Elena Wilkes is a psychological thriller that is that good it has the possibility to really mess with your head.
We meet Frankie Turner, she definitely knows what it’s like to be unwanted; she was brought up in care. Now as a social worker to kids in the same system, she’s someone who understands … But Frankie is hiding an unthinkable secret: one that may have its roots in the murder of a young, beautiful woman fifteen years ago.
Right from the start of the book we can tell that Frankie has secrets from the past that she doesn't want anyone to know. The story unfolds and her past is slowly revealed as we see how it affects her present day life.
The suspense was spine tingling as the story revealed more and more of her past.
Elena Wilkes has spun a tale that keeps you glued to the book. The story is full of twists and blind alleys. Just as you think you have it Elena Wilkes throws a red herring in so you do an about turn...and still never guess right. I read this as fast as I could as I was really wanting to find out if I could be at all right! Nope! I was running on adrenaline all through this book! The conclusion even managed to surprise me. A fabulous read and highly recommended to anyone who loves a read packed with secrets, suspense and shocks.

Honestly, that wasn't so bad, like i knew who killed charlotte half through the book.
The problem was with the plot, it got so much potential, it could've made one epic book, but it was handled badly, the author kept adding a lot of details to shock the reader that it started to feel cheap and fake.
Frankie wasn't a likable character, she wasn't bad, but at the same time you can't love her or feel pity for her, she was just easy to manoeuvre.
Didn't like the ending, it was too perfect to be true, and it showed how much of the details were exaggerated.
Overall, not so good.

While I love a good psychological thriller, this book just wasn’t for me. I didn’t find the main character likable at all and that’s a problem that’s always hard for me to get past. There were lots of twists and turns but this book almost had too much going on. I’m saying that, I’m sure this will be a favorite but for some, it just wasn’t the best for me.

The writing was compelling enough to keep me reading but the pacing and plotting was very jumbled. Alex was never a likeable character even when he was supposed to be loving, supportive house-husband. The draw that Martin had over Frankie even years later was weird and the whole plot was a tad too farfetched in my opinion.

I have been a fan of Elena’s work for a little while now. I read and loved her previous book called ‘The Man I Married’. When I read the synopsis for ‘Keep My Secrets’ it certainly sounded like the sort of psychological thriller that I enjoy. I must be psychic (or psychopathic) because I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Keep My Secrets’ but more about that in a bit.
It took me a little while to get into this story which has more to do with the fact that I was tired and finding it hard to concentrate than anything else. I found the character of Frankie to be very intriguing and I had to keep reading to find out how the story panned out for her. I found that once I started reading the book, I would become so wrapped up in the story that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the book. I found ‘Keep My Secrets’ to be a gripping read, which kept me guessing and which kept me on the edge of my seat.
‘Keep My Secrets’ is extremely well written. I love the way in which Elena has created such an interesting character, who has more layers to her personality than you would find layers of wrapping paper on a parcel during a game of ‘Pass The Parcel’. I love the way in which Elena has created an intriguing sounding synopsis, which immediately grabs your attention and then she reels the reader in. For me, ‘Keep My Secrets’ hits the ground running and maintains a fast pace throughout. Reading ‘Keep My Secrets’ felt like being on an at times scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with more twists and turns to it than you would find on a ‘Snakes & Ladders’ board.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘Keep My Secrets’ and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Elena’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

This book is a thriller that follows Frankie, a married woman running from secrets in her past that she is trying to keep hidden from her husband, Alex. She has worked very hard to keep her past hidden and move on with her life until she starts receiving messages and thinks someone from her past is stalking her. Her husband starts to think something is going on but thinks that she is having an affair. Frankie must confront her past before she loses her husband and this new life that she has built for herself.

Overall, I did enjoy this story. The beginning of the story was a bit slow for me. It was a lot of her and her husband, Alex, who I found to be kind of annoying and clingy. Once the past started to integrate in the story— the plot picked up. The chapters were a bit longer than my personal preference but this book did hold my attention until the very ending. I was very intrigued with Frankie and her past and curious how that part of the story was going to end. There were a few twists and turns in this story that I didn't see coming. I always like to be surprised or shocked in a book— that is what makes for a great thriller. I also really enjoy the ending. I felt very satisfied with how the story ended for all of the characters.

I also thought the author did a good job of blending the past with the present in the plot. The only preference I would have had would be to maybe label the chapters when it is the past and present. For me, it just allows me to easily dive into the past or get back into the present seamlessly without having to read a sentence or two to switch your brand to a different time jump.

Frankie Turner, 33, works at a children’s care home in Wales. She had been brought in the care system and knows how bad it can be for children. Thus, she is ready and willing to go the extra step to help them.

Driving home on a dark road, a car comes up behind her with its bright lights on. Finally, the car passes her but she just knows it’s someone from her past which is about to catch up with her. She has also been getting phone calls with no one saying anything. Her secret is one the she has tried very hard to hide and doesn’t want her husband, Alex, to find out. However, he knows something is going on and wishes she would come clean with him.

So many secrets and so many lies. Who is lying and who is telling the truth? This story follows Frankie when she was living a care home herself. Life was difficult for her and she fell in with a bad group with lasting consequences that touch her life even today.

There is so much back and forth from early days to present time for Frankie. I did not click with her at all as I felt her character was not one with which I could sympathize. So many things happened and sometimes it got a bit confusing as to what was supposed to have happened. I did not find this an interesting book at all, but rather boring and repetitive at times. However, I will be generous and give it 3 stars.

3.5 stars really.

Thanks to NetGalley and Hera Books for letting me read this book prior to its publication. My opinion is 100% honest, unbiased, and my own.

I really liked this book, but what I thought was going to be an extraordinary story ended up being just an "oh, wow, that was surprising" kind of story. My main problem was that this book rambles a lot and it gets repetitive. However, it gets much better again when it approaches the ending.

So Frankie grew up in the care system and now she works with kids in the same situation she was in during her childhood. All of that is great, but it doesn't have a lot of relevance in the story, despite appearing in the most prominent part of the blurb. We don't really see her at work, and that's fine, but I was expecting something different. And Frankie is not entirely honest with her husband Alex, who is also quite a mess, and I spent the whole book wanting to slap him silly. It is impossible to like him. At all. Overall, their relationship didn't make a lot of sense.

The story is mainly told via flashbacks to the time when Frankie got involved in the death of another girl. What are the chances of a person getting involved with all kinds of psychopaths and messed-up people? Well, it seems that Frankie has a special magnet to get close to that kind of people. I don't want to spoil anything, so I will be careful here. The way Frankie handled her involvement with the family of the deceased girl is quite disturbing, on both parts. And of course that leads to all sorts of drama and mayhem.

The ending felt a bit rushed, with lots of different things going on. In the end it's not a matter of who did it, but of who did what. As I said, it was an interesting story and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't the extraordinary book I was expecting. I would recommend it for a nice weekend in, cozying up with a cup of tea.

First, I want to thank Elana Wilkes, Hera Books, NetGalley and BOTBSPUBLICITY for providing me with this book so I can bring you this review.

Can you Keep My Secret?! Shh don’t tell anyone!! WOW!! OH!! WOW!! Elana Wilkes Book was a continuous thrill ride that wouldn’t let you get off!! It was GOOD!!!

Oh Elana you hooked me right from the prologue!! Intensely fast paced with your extremely vivid graphic detailed scene. In fact you described what my head feels like during a migraine attack. Well done hooking me into your book.

I’m a huge fan of The Black Eyed Peas song featuring Justin Timberlake with Where Is The Love so I was over the moon to see that referenced in the book. Now I have that song stuck in my head!

My heart was literally in my chest as I was incredibly as fearful during the road stalking scene. Every thought Frankie felt I was feeling too! Such an intense scene. Who would be so sick and twisted to want to hurt her?!

Elana address the issue of suicide but in a very special way that I have never seen an author do before. It was refreshing that she did it this way but took me off guard. I commend her for bringing light to this subject this way.

Alex was not my favorite character in this book as he rubbed me the wrong way right off the bat.

Hidden in the past, the story was all about equalizing the hurt in the present. You could call it revenge even.

Frankie had redefined herself to escape her past. But as they said it always caught up. And now Frankie was scrambling to maintain a semblance of order in the world of Chas that her life had exploded into. Strange things started happening to her.

Written in dual timelines, I liked how Elena Wilkes had etched her into a complex human with layers hidden in. There were twists and turns in all the truths of the past.

As the author unfurled the story, each page led me into a land of insecurity as I truly didn’t know who was telling me the truth. Loved the fact that the truth kept shifting in every page. Kept me on my toes.

Shades of good and bad in every character were shown, which raised the story to the perfect pitch. Almost. 2 niggles. The first section was very murky didn’t know where the story was going. Had I not known the talent of this author, I would have given up. Frankie was so difficult to love in the entire book. But that could be how the author wanted to portray her.

But as the story took shape and distrust mounted up, it was so easy to get caught up in the thrill of this book. Quite a pleasurable breakfast read.

At just 17 years old, Frankie thinks she’s got it all figured out. But it just takes one night. One party. One encounter. After that, her heart is torn into shards, and nothing is ever the same.

Fifteen years later, Frankie has managed to climb out of the ruins that her 17-year-old-self lived through and not only survive, but thrive. She’s happily married to a kind, loving man named Alex and has a meaningful career as a regional manager at a local children’s care home.

But all it takes is one phone call. One figure in the shadows. One served prison sentence. And just like that – Frankie’s past forces its way into her present and she finds herself right back where she started.

Fast-paced, intriguing, and amazingly twisty are the words that come to mind when reflecting on Elena Wilkes’ sophomore novel, Keep My Secrets. Just when I thought I finally had it all figured out, Wilkes veered down an even more twisted path and all I could do was gape in horror. The resolution was surprisingly bright and hopeful – which I loved! Wilkes is a promising new voice in the psychological suspense/thriller genre and I look forward to reading her future work.

Frankie Turner had a rough start to life...growing up in care, fighting with other girls in school, drugs. But when she met older Martin Jarvis she thought she had found her soul mate and the key to her future. What follows leads to Frankie's worst nightmare and 15 years later that nightmare resurfaces.

It's been a long time since characters in a book have made me think out them when I wasn't actually reading but Elena Wilkes has a way of writing that makes you connect with them. The flow was nicely paced with very little dragging sections and definitely followed through with the promised plot twists. While I didn't really agree with some of the decisions Frankie made and why she made them didn't always make sense, I guess as with real life you don't know what you would do unless you were in that situation.

The ending came as a COMPLETE surprise leaving me with my jaw hanging and that also has not happened in a long time.

Frankie has worked hard to conceal her past and start over. But someone is resurrecting memories and secrets from long ago. Frankie’s marriage is already rocky, and she’s fighting like crazy to keep the past buried from her husband. Who is trying to bring down Frankie and why? With most of the characters being a bit unlikeable and shady, the suspect pool seems to be compounding.

The author does a great job alternating the narrative between Frankie’s life “Now” and “Then”. This helps us understand where Frankie came from and the unfortunate circumstances that caused her to want to start fresh. By the end, the past and present narratives merge together to create a suspenseful finale of events. There are plenty of twists that will keep your alliances shifting, but when the veil is lifted, the ending is quite surprising. While one of my suspicions turned out right, the ending still blindsided me (in a good way).

Thank you Elena Wilkes, Hera Books and NetGalley for a copy of this book. Overall, it was a very suspenseful and enjoyable read.

What's that saying... 'oh what a wicked web we weave, when first we start to deceive'

I feel it sums up both adult and child Frankie from Keep My Secrets!

The story is told via a series chapters of present day and flashbacks to the past.

In childhood, Frankie Turner had a rough start to life, she grew up in care (where 'care' itself was abundantly missing from her life). She was neglected, involved with all many of unsavoury things and prime prey for an older man. So when she meets Martin Jarvis she thinks she has fallen in love, found her soul mate and the key to her future.

Now her past seems to be catching up with her present and her cosy life with husband Alex feels like it is slipping between her fingers.

The stories from her past reveal bit by bit what happened to her and what she went through just to feel like she belonged.

A classic psychological thriller that will keep you guessing all the way through!

Keep my secrets is a dual timeline story, switching from when Frankie was a teenager living in care and the present day Frankie who helps troubled children, who's hiding secrets in her past that are about to catch up with her.

This was one of those stories that I went into expecting one thing but ended up being fairly surprised. Honestly, it's not a novel that I could predict what would happen next.

Frankie was a complex with a capital C. On one hand she's a person who will go the extra mile for troubled kids, on the other she can't even be honest with her own husband. Then there's teenage Frankie, angry, insecure, who lashes out at everyone.

I can't quite pinpoint why I didn't get sucked into this novel like I felt I should have. Maybe it was because most of the characters seemed unlikeable or the fact that I felt switching between timelines lost a bit of the tension.

I would still recommend this book if you don't mind unlikeable characters and dual timeline stories.

Frankie Turner grew up on her own, in the foster care system, with no real guidance to live by. She meets Martin Jarvis at 17 and believes it is love. But quickly Frankie realizes that Martin isn't quite who she believed him to be, and we follow her on the path of destruction that follows after one fateful night at a party. We also follow grown up Frankie, who is unhappily married to Alex, and hiding secrets that are very close to be exposed by some unknown threat.

There is a lot going on in this story, almost too much, which takes away from how awesome the story could actually be. All of the characters are unlikable and frustrating. This was not my favorite story, but others seem to like it a lot, so I'd say give it go still.

I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts are my own.

A really thought provoking and intriguing read. We follow the character Frankie, who has a a past full of secrets that she holds dear to herself.

The author flips between Frankie's past and present and it is really presented well. We start to understand about Frankie's past and how it is moulded her to how she is now. Frankie is now married in a seemingly fraught relationship and Frankie is suddenly left some cryptic notes and she also feels like she is being watched from a far. This opens up the main storyline and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Elena Wilke's story telling is amazing and I found myself engrossed in the pages of this novel. Worth a read for anyone who likes a who done it kind of read and a book that is fast paced.

Thanks to Elena Wilkes, Netgalley and their publisher for an advanced copy of this book for my honest opinion.

After devouring this book in one sitting it has left me wondering why the hell I have never read this author before! Wow, wow, wow I loved it.

Keep my secret is a face paced on the edge of your seat read, with plenty of twists and turns and OMG moments. I literally couldn’t read this fast enough wanting to know what was going to happen next. Just when I thought I had it all worked out BOOM the author throws in twist and throws me off the path.

I love how the story is told between now and then building up the story and getting to know the character Frankie. This is one of those stories that will throw you sideways. It is a must read for all psychological thriller fans. I cannot recommend it enough. Giving it all the stars.

Elena is definitely an author to look out for, I loved this book that much that I went straight to amazon to buy The Man I Married.

Frankie had a tough start in life, growing up in the care system, but has succeeded in turning her life around and is now doing well for herself. The question is, how long will it last? With secrets from her past threatening to jeopardise her future, what lengths will she go to protect herself and her life? Her teen lover has is back on the scene after being released from prison and her marriage has some underlying issues. Frankie is also feeling threatened by mysterious notes beginning to appear. Are these events connected or is there someone else involved? Will the secrets from her past be revealed? I loved the way the book flipped between Frankie's story from when she was younger and then Frankie's current story. The merging at the end made it a shocking, unpredictable and satisfying twisty ending which I did not see coming! A complete shocker!

Keep My Secrets is the second book by Elena Wilkes and what a brilliant read this book was, I book was so addictive and hooked within the first few pages and so glad I did not have work the next day. Before I knew it the birds were singing and I was coming up to the last few chapters. It was a great thriller, full of twists and turns throughout, that will mess with your head!!!!
All the characters were great and so realistic I like all of them.

I highly recommended this book and its. definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.

BIg Thank you to NetGalley and Hera Books for the ARC – This is my honest review.
