So in the start of this volume after school, they end up going to meet Christina and while on the way there Akira gets lost and he ends up meeting this “cute girl” and this cute girl ends up, stealing his wallet with his photo of his dad and also his train card. Sho sees this and he tries to attack her because he ended up telling Akira that she is a “target” whatever that means, and they eventually get to Christina and Christina talks about the mulch, which is their watch and it monitors the body state. It has communications and it also has transformation of combat outfit and also weaponry. There was supposed to be a fourth thing, but it was said to be just the time on the watch, supposedly. Akria, he isn’t sure what he wants his weapon to be so he asked if he can think about it.

Then Amamiya shows up and he’s like it’s your first mission you and Sho are gonna work together and you have to basically guard this young girl who isn’t actually a young girl, she’s an alien from another planet, and she ended up running away from home and the spacecraft that she went through ended up crashing and the AMO now is having Sho and Akira take her for a week until her mom gets to earth and so they watch her and Akira goes and stays at Shos apartment with her and he ends up telling Akira that he had a sister, but they don’t live with each other anymore, and Akira learns more about the girl and the fact that she ran away. Amamiya, he “joked” about that someone was trying to come kill her and he was like no it’s just a joke. All of a sudden at night this alien thing comes in and crashes in and basically tries to take her and Sho jumps in and falls out of the freaking apartment building down with the alien and Akira takes the girl and they run to the park and he’s trying to contact Amamiya, but he purposely ignores him and Akira has to fight because he’s trying to guard her and fight it, but then Sho shows up and he tries to protect them and his body ends up getting half cut off and Akira thinks he just died.

So tone of writing this volume had a lot more lighter humor, leaning into comedy more while semi addressing more serious conversations. I feel like it was more light in regards to the conversations and dialogue that was happening, and I don’t know if I loved that as much. I tend to prefer more serious, unnerving tone of writing in this type of story, and I don’t know the series is gonna do that but it’s personal preference. I think we did learn more things about the AMO and also at the start of the volume, Amamiya was talking to these rectangular boxes in a room essentially monitoring him and I don’t know what that’s about because he was being questioned for why he allowed Akira onto the AMO special forces unit (SFU) and I thought that was interesting because I wanna learn more about the AMO and aliens and what’s going on. I think this entered into a uneasy vibe and I wanna know more. I wasn’t a fan of all the humor. I don’t know how I feel with the whole cute girl situation and who that even is, I know that there are multiple characters in here that their genders are not actually confirmed but a lot leaning into more feminine presentation.

Something that this volume was doing a lot of is recapping from the first volume, and also conclusion chapters of Akira summarizing the event he’s going through and I think some of that can be nice, but this was only volume two and if you’re reading back to back and paying attention I don’t feel like it needed as much of that as it had.

Amamiya, I knew I was gonna start to have irritation over this man as I had thought back in the first volume. I had a feeling he was probably gonna lean morally gray(that’s being nice) and I had a feeling he was gonna keep pushing Akira and also now learning about Sho, learning that they had a mentor student dynamic, and Sho doesn’t have a lot of good feelings regarding him and tries to hide it. I want to learn more about him because he clearly has a lot of connections with a lot of the cast, like he clearly wants to know more about Akira and like the abilities he possesses because it was being said that he thinks that there is some type of parasitic alien within Akira. He has had a lot of authority and power over Sho, and also the way that he’s just lying to people and manipulating people and seeming indifferent about it. I just know he’s in a lot of people’s business and I know that he most likely has connections to Akira’s father (why is it I feel the connection probably isn’t sweet with a cherry on top) which is seems like a lot of people do and I’m expecting that to be a big part in the future.

We’ve also see the confliction and yet again the contemplation from Sho with Akira. He just watches him and observes, and Akira kind of gets weirded out because like why are you looking at me like that?

I wonder how deep the story is going to go into the layers about the existence of aliens from other planets and then also earthling or essentially humans, that to other aliens eyes from other planets are also technically aliens to them. Obviously there are topics about immigration in this and about visas and about the rules that supposedly have existed where if you come to the Earth, you have to go to the US first and follow rules to learn what you can and cannot do while on earth and how visas work and also walking the lines of these rules but then what do you do when something else happens. How are other aliens treated? As the little girl she technically didn’t have a visa and she would be categorize as in a illegal alien under the AMO, but it gets taken on Sho and Akira more so under the table than other members. I wonder if deeper topics about the way that the AMO specifically has developed rules if they are the ones that develop the rules of this and the way that it can control and punish other aliens and essentially the system itself and I wonder if that will be deeper explored. It seems like it will to me especially with Akiras thoughts on aliens and conversations about the effort it must take to follow rules under a system and a society that requires you to change to live within it.

The part in this volume where the little girls communication was not working normally, and so she started speaking different than normal, and it was being said that she was speaking weird was kind of weird to me and I’m not sure how I feel about that because of those specific choice it made on wording that was said I don’t know if I liked that..I don’t think I did. I don’t like how because of the way she was speaking it was being called weird and the word choices they made to think of it as weird, even though it was definitely more intended for comedic.

Other than that, the art was staying consistent and I think it’s fine. Sometimes I don’t like certain illustrations of characters and how they are being depicted. I guess my genuine critique is sometimes it’s hard for me to tell what’s actually going on in the panels of action scenes. I knew that this volume ended on a cliffhanger, and I was excited about the cliffhanger initially, but then I couldn’t even grasp what I was seeing at first until I realize that Shos body was cut horizontally in half. Sometimes it’s just a mix of shading and detail that is harder for me to tell whats actually going on, but I feel like that’s a problem with a lot of action manga. I usually eventually can tell what’s going on. It just takes my brain a minute and my eyes to actually absorb what I’m looking at.

Akira being constantly nervous and in awe over Sho is honestly so adorable <3 Despite Akira thinking that Sho is cool in every aspect, it seems that the boy is pretty much bad in socialising as much as Akira himself. I really look forward to their friendship deepening and both of them being in a combat!

I'm pretty worried about what Amamiya is hiding though. He's being suspicious all over and I'm not sure if I'm okay with him giving orders to Sho and Akira. I don't trust him (even if he's that pretty)

BUT HELLO???? THE ENDING????? WHAT IS THAT PLEASE TELL ME SHO IS ALRIGHT OR I WILL BAWL

Amarhawya, as sort of director of the AMO teams Akira-Gunyi, a person who just managed to kind of fall though into a train that is only accessable to aliens with Tenkubashi. This is Akira's first assignment so Tenkubashi has to sort of train him a bit before he is up to the job.

They end up staying at Tenkubashi's apartment because Akira-Gunyi has siblings and isn't assecure. They have to watch an escaped alien who has run away from home. She shows up using the name Erola=Takachiho-san. That is in her human form which is quite different from her alien form, which we don't get to see. Apparently she escaped from her mother, who may or may not be a machine type creature.

She acts like a sweet little girl, but who knows what she really is like in her natural form.

Ill never be able to get over the constant and perpetual sexualization of children in Japanese culture. It is hands down one of the most overlooked and overwhelmingly disturbing part of their culture in almost all forms of media.

I dont know to what extremes is their pedo situation (probably not any worse than America) but i dont understand the promotion of it.

It makes me lower the score on so many mangas and anime's, even books!! (Tell me murakami does give off pedo vibes)

Like there is absolutely no reason for it.

That cliff hanger goes hard! This volume kept me focused the entire time, never losing any ounce of interest. The behind the scenes part says that the author didn't want any action scenes in this series originally, but ended up going with it because their editors thought the main characters were drawn too cool to not be shown in action. I thought that was a great suggestion that paid off well for the series thus far. Keep reading if you're this excited as I am for whats next!

NAHHHHHH! NAOE TU PEUX PAS NOUS FAIRE ÇA!

This volume was crazy! And what a cliff-hanger. I’m such a sucker for Men in Black style shenanigans. I was a little worried about just how nervous and anxious our lead is, but I’m hopeful that this flaw will be something he works through as we continue to challenge him. Can’t wait to see what happens next!

Wow this series is not at ALL what I thought it was going to be! I love the exploration of humanity and what makes someone 'alien' and I love how Akira sometimes does the things one would expect from shounen fighting tropes, and at other times totally does not. And the slowly developing friendship (or more?) between the male leads is so great! This is an absolutely delightful find.

I didn’t expect Reiji to be a merciless mentor I’m very surprised. Also that cliffhanger at the end of the volume wow!

Finally we’re gonna see Akira go berserk and maybe another ability of Sho? Who knows!

Very excited to see what’s coming next!

Interesting leading

On one side, I'm enjoying this series. On the other, get on with it. I want to read the whole story. Not have to wait for the next book because the writer left a cliffhanger hoping to sell more books.
