This story just keeps getting better and the endings leave even more questions and surprises than before. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!!
This is book four of The Rover series and sees Zoey, a former bounty hunter, who has just discovered she is part fae and part mage, and Fin, a fae prince, have to go back to her former home for the assistance of her former boss and the man who acted as her father, Chief. He was in charge of The Office of bounty hunters, where she worked until she pushed too far. Fin has been badly injured with a blade meant to kill with just a cut, and which ended in the death of his own best friend and loyal guard Captain Harlan. The only place she can think of going is to the chief, to see if he has anything that could keep Fin alive. Esteban, the Black Mage wants Zoey for himself, to make powerful babies with, by force, and he is also responsible for taking Fin’s twin sister Sol many years ago and torturing her to do as he wants.
What Fin doesn’t know, is that Sol managed to escape Esteban’s clutches some years ago and he has been hunting her ever since. Fin has been a very reclusive person, hiding away in his mansion for years, trying to avoid all those that want a piece of him, after acting as a sort of policeman for the fae community. Fin and Zoey had been getting closer together and their bond had been strengthening, but Fin is keeping a lot of secrets from her and it is becoming a bit too much for her. Fin nearly died and they can’t even be there for Captain Harlan’s funeral, as his main home is compromised and he is still healing. Due to their former connection, the Captain appears to Zoey in a dream like state, and lets her know a few things, one of them that she has a ‘mate’ bond with Fin, as well as to tell Fin, his death wasn’t his fault. When Zoey tries to get the truth out of Fin, he refuses to tell her and so she tries to withhold any sort of touch from him and keep separate!
Zoey calls on the Chief and his right hand man Hawk, to get them some supplies and help to research any way of stopping the dark magic of Esteban’s blade, so they can take him down. They need someone highly skilled at magical metalworking and the only real contact they find, Helix, is a very powerful magical person and actually a bodyguard for the person they are looking for, who goes by the name of Melinda. What Zoey finds with the help from The Office, is Sol and her bodyguard Helix, who are very reluctant to assist Zoey or even Fin, who hasn’t seen his sister since she was a young girl! She is the one who created the blade, forced to by Esteban in his hunt for more and more power. Fin and Zoey have moved into another of Fin’s safe houses, but that doesn’t mean they are safe. If they can persuade Sol to help remove the magic from the blade, it will allow Esteban to track her again, through her magic signature.
It seems a showdown is coming between the Black Mage and those who oppose him, before Fin, Zoey, or Sol are captured again and Esteban wins. They need more allies and a lot more magical power to be combined to overcome the power the Black Mage has drained from so many fae and others, in his thirst to be the most powerful ever. A bit of a slow burn on the romance in this one, as the trust between Fin and Zoey is at an all-time low, as both are keeping secrets from each other, but it seems Fin’s may well be the biggest of all! They have danger all around them and Zoey is insisting on taking the lead with plans to take down Esteban this time, even if it kills her. The Captain told her not to allow Fin in the room with Esteban and the reason for this will become clear, right at the end of this book. They will have to face even more danger, but now at least, they will have some allies to assist them in their plans. I can’t wait to see what happens next. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
“Magic Hunter” is the fourth and second to last book in “The Rover Series”, an urban fantasy paranormal romance series by Amelia Shaw, whose heroine (Zoey) is a bounty hunter, thrown in a world full of fae, vampires, shifters, and magic wielders.
Zoey and Fin are back, together… as in bound together, Fin’s ‘solution’ to save Zoey’s life, after the Black Mage almost succeeded in killing her. Zoey should be grateful, or should she? After all it’s Fin we are talking about. When it comes to those two, arguments can get very heated, and now that all their secrets are known to each other…. But the Black Mage is still on the loose, posing a threat that must be combated at all costs. Thus, Zoe and Fin will have to put their differences (or are they similarities 😊) apart to fight the danger, if only were that easy… Just a slight warning, this book ends in a colossal cliffhanger, so schedule your reading, because you will be hanging there for about eight weeks until the final books comes out, you’re been warned 😉
“The Rover Series” is a fast-paced, action-packed, easy-to-read urban fantasy series, set in a very-well crafted world, with enjoyable characters, interesting plots, and a compelling arc-story. Imagine a blended version of Buffy and Veronica thrown into a verse reminiscent of the “Black Dagger Brotherhood” series and you’ll have an approximated idea of what to expect of “The Rover Series”, or... should you need a much shorter definition: fun, funnier, funniest 😊
We pick up with Zoey and Fin in the Chief's house for Fin to try and heal from the would he received from the Black Mage and Zoey is not happy that Fin neglected to mention that he knew the Chief. In addition to her anger over his having withheld something else from her they are mourning the Captain's death but Zoey does get a chance to say goodbye in a rather unusual way but during their goodbye he elicits a promise from her. They soon move to one of Fin's safe houses but their personal problems aren't behind them and Zoey is one stubborn lady and she isn't quite ready to forgive Fin just yet. They continue their search for Sol and a way to negate the magic in the blade that killed the Captain and injured Fin. We meet new characters who bring a totally different element to the story and the book kept me glued to the pages the whole way through. Can't wait to see how things play out in the finale.

Our heroine has gone through a lot, but she is not done yet. Things are building to a head and it is not certain who will come out on top.
This is book four of the series and the next-to-last book. I do not recommend starting this late in the series.
This is an urban fantasy story. The story is well written and easy to read with a well developed setting and fascinating characters. This series keeps getting better with each new book which is saying a lot. I really like both our hero and heroine and we get to see them both continue to grow throughout the book. Events have built to a boil in preparation for the final book. This one ends in a bit of a cliffhanger, making the next one all that more important. Personally, I can't wait.
Highly recommended.

Zoey has been watching Fin heal from a wound from the same knofe that killed his friend, the Captain. She knows there is a bond between them - but Fin is keeping secrets. They are still looking for his sister, Sol - and trying to avoid another confrontation with Estaban, the Black Mage until they have regained their strength and made a plan. Will they find Sol? And what secrets will be revealed? I have loved the first three books, and with the cliff hanger ending, I cant wait for book four!

This is a great installment and only one more book to the conclusion of this entertaining and addictive series. The main characters are defined, likable, have secrets, are bound together, must regain their strength before confronting the Black Mage again. The world-building is very good, the story .at a good pace, and it keeps the readers' interest throughout. I liked this read and am awaiting the conclusion. Be warned, you need to read this series from the start.

Entertaining and fun! Still loving Zoey’s sass and kick butt attitude! This is book 4, so I definitely recommend reading the previous books before this one. This one has a cliffhanger and it looks like the next book will be the final one. Excited! The black mage is still on the loose in this book, so Zoey and Fin have their work cut out for them. Plus, Fin’s sister is still missing. Lots of danger, magic, and action. The relationship between Zoey and Fin is still tenuous, but there’s some progress made on trust between them. Ready for the next book!
Book 4 in this series once again leaves you wanting to know what happens ahead.
This book starts exactly at the point book 3 ends. There are no time gaps. Trust me on this, you're going to enjoy reading the book and hate it when it ends, because this is not the conclusion.
I sure hope that the author will end this series soon, my heart can't deal with the cliffhangers and possibilities of what will happen next.

This installment really moved everything along. Zoey and Fin are able to make some steps forward in their relationship and in their quests, be it revenge or forgiveness. The Captain is dearly missed, but new characters are introduced, can’t replace him but still new dynamics.

This is the best so far in the series, it is absolutely jam packed with intrigue, plot twists and action. It had me gripped the whole way through. Just when I thought I had figured things out, bam! Things changed perspective again. An emotional roller coaster of a read, this was pure pleasure to read.
In this book Fin and Zoey find Sol whom now goes by Melinda. I really enjoyed the take charge attitude that Zoey has in this book. She is determined to do what it takes to get rid of Esteban. This is just as good as the previous books, and I am looking forward to reading what happens next.
