Victoria lives in the UK, in rural Essex, with her husband, two daughters, and one very mischievous Bengal called Bella. She is the author of the YA book series Wild Spirit and writes mystery, fantasy, and gothic books for adults and teens. When she isn't writing and making up tales to scare her kids, you'll find her walking, reading, re-watching Buffy the Vampire slayer and running her children around like a taxi service.
*I recieved this book for free in return for a review*
Yet again, Victoria has done an amazing job with creating such a captivating story which continues on from Wild Spirit: The Curse of Win Adler. The characters are well thought, which combined with such a detailed and thorough plot, made me read the book in one sitting! Now after finishing, it's got me hyped for book 3 in the series!! It also has some very nice sketches which were such a great touch when reading, alongside the amazing cover!
I received a free, advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, and I am blown away. Having read both Wild Spirit and the short story collection, I was already familiar with this wonderful universe the author has created. However, the writing is so crisp and clean, you could quite easily pick this instalment up and be brought right up to speed. This is because the author writes in a way that pulls you in and has you instantly knowing the characters like they've been part of your life forever. As for the plot, each and every chapter was a constant page turner for me. I'll not divulge too much here in the way of what actually happens, but I'm confident you'll find it just as breathtaking as I did. Overall, fans of young adult novels will love this of course, but I believe anyone will. I don't usually read in this genre, but the author has written an incredible story in a unique and diverse world that simply cannot be ignored.
I received a free digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review It is spoiler-free as possible for Wild Spirit: Huntress
REVIEW: Wild Spirit: Huntress by Victoria Wren picks up months after book one. The character dynamics shift over the summer as Win’s friends hide something from her. A new character finds their way into the Adlers’ life and Win is growing closer with her mysterious woodsman. Win learns more about her Therian identity and her family history and must find and free her past relatives. Every scene is full of suspense and reveals as this fast-paced sequel doesn’t miss a beat.
One of my favorite things about this book was the intensity of every chapter. Often, a sequel lacks the excitement and discoveries/worldbuilding that occurs in the first. However, Huntress is even more intense than the first. While book one does an excellent job establishing Win’s world and getting the reader invested in the characters, this book utilizes those connections to make a greater impact. Win discovers much more about who she is and the plot is thick with reveals and moments where the reader is unsure if the characters are going to survive. Plus the character dynamics are excellent subplots that contribute to the main plot and propel the intense ending.
Grayson resembles the mysterious YA boyfriend that is often in the genre. But, it is extremely relevant to the plot that he acts this way and he is not as ‘cool’ or speaks in metaphors like in other YA novels. When he hides information from Win, it is believable given his circumstances. Their relationship is filled with an intensity of ups and downs and drives the story.
Win and Luke’s relationship arc is also fascinating. They have intense highs and lows as well, but for very different reasons. They have a bit of conflict in the first half of the book that demonstrates Win’s strong character and morals, which was lovely to read. After this, when they got along, it is wonderful. They become more like family and care deeply for each other and Ella.
Both Win and Luke grow as characters. It is wonderful to see Luke overcome the many obstacles in the present and past to become a good person. For Win, it is great to see her confidence flourish, yet have moments of doubt and regret, reminding us that she is not perfect. All the characters are so realistic, which makes the events very stressful as we do not want to see any of them get hurt.
Jennifer Riley as a villain is very well done. She is not over the top crazy (but crazy), and her villainous acts start well before the novel, making her terrible but realistic. She acts within her limits, but her actions are still horrible and have severe consequences. She has a much larger role than in the last book.
The writing style is as superb as Wren’s previous works. The description is vivid, the POV changes provide interesting insights and suspense as the reader often has more knowledge than Win. In addition, the pictures are delightful. The ending is satisfying and sets up excellent tension and plot points to explore in the next book.
The only drawbacks are sometimes it is hard to tell if Luke is with Rosene and if his and Win’s dynamic is familial or something else. Rowan is not as cool in this book, but it makes sense for her character arc. Plus, Win’s journey in this book does not rely on Rowan’s guidance as much as the previous book.
RECOMMENDATION: If you read the last book, you ABSOLUTELY need to continue the series with this book. You will like it even more than book one. I even ranted to my friends about it and told them how wild it was. I give it five stars for the plot, character dynamics, and vivid description. Also, the songs ‘Weak’ by AJR and ‘Animal’ by Kesha reminded me of this book.
TAGS: The tags I would give this book include family feud/family drama, family curse, forbidden love, action, suspense, loss of innocence, YA, lgbtqia+, secrets, death, thriller, and cozy woodsy old east coast town with a rich history.
I received a free, advanced copy of Wild Spirit: Huntress in exchange for an honest review and once again, I have been amazed by the talented author, Victoria Wren. Before I get into this review, I would just like to say that I adore the Wild Spirit series. It has everything that I personally love in books; contemporary fiction, a magic system, animal shapeshifting, likeable characters, an actual storyline to follow along and just the perfect touch of romance. The plots and writing style are my favorite parts about this book. There were twists and turns that surprised me as I read and that’s all I really need when reading a fiction book. As for the writing style, it was almost graceful. It was easy to read and follow along with the story without having to go back and reread a page. Some parts about the book I am skeptical about, like the Native Americans being told in the series since I am one myself. But Overall, this book/series is like nothing I’ve ever read. From the beginning, I felt a deep connection to the first Wild Spirit book which happened to be the first book I bought when I joined bookstagram. So obviously this series holds a special place in my heart and I look forward to reading what will come next of Win Adler’s adventures.
"She knew one thing, she was meant for him. He was imprinted on her like a tattoo, like ink permanently etched into her skin"
Thank you so much to the author for sending me this e-arc in exchange for an honest review. A few weeks ago i read and loved the first book in this series but i gotta say this one is just in another level. I dont want to tell much since this one is a sequel but what i can say Is that i loved the montescos and capuletos vibes in this book, all the lore behind the afterdeath of the shifters and definitely I'm looking forward to know More about the new character, Evan and her powers since that epilogue really left me craving for more.
If you want to read about curses, shapeshifters, family misteries, romance and secrets... Now is a good time to order Wild Spirit: the curse of Win Adler before its sequel "Huntress" comes out on July 30!
Victoria Wren has done it again! I absolutely loved this book. It was such a smooth and exciting development from the first book. The dynamics between the characters is just so enthralling and complicated. Incredibly realistic and took me back to that age. Wren has created an animal lovers world filled with mystery and magic. I havent read much YA but this certainly ticked a box for me. I cannot wait to see what she comes up with next. Also I have such a soft spot for Grayson!
I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
If you enjoy young adult and shifters, you’ll enjoy this book! I’m just starting to get into the shifter realm, so I haven’t read too many yet, but this was a win!
I received an advanced copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review, and I feel so blessed!
This is book two in the Wild Spirit Series. If you haven’t read “The Curse of Win Adler,” you’re going to want to read that one first.
Win’s family is cursed and she’s unknowingly fallen in love with a man whose family has hunted hers since the curse first began. How will she ever overcome the betrayal? Will she be able to set her ancestors free? And who is Evan, and what does she want out of all of this?
I absolutely loved this story! It gets into my head and I can’t stop thinking about it. The characters are so well developed, every question I might drum up seems to get answered at the right moment within the story. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. I know it’ll be a page turner just like books one and two!
Wow, wow, wow... Another amazing installment in this series. I think I loved it even more than the first. This YA paranormal thriller took a slightly darker turn in this book, and yet at it's heart it was still so reminiscent of the YA books I read as a teenager, with all the same heart to it. I love the characters, particularly Win. While Ella and Luke remain good supporting characters, Win feels so chaotically real that it's hard not to adore her, even when she makes bad decisions. I also love Rowan, and I love to see their personalities clash in the way sisters so often do. Once again, the series revisits the beauty of first love, but also the importance of family. Win's story with her grandfather really touched me - the feeling of losing someone slowly then all at once was one that I can totally relate to. And while the story touches on some really tender moments, it also explores the fun and chaos of teenage life. I found myself smiling so many times! And then there were the twists! That epilogue! I'm fascinated to see where this story will go next. Victoria Wren is definitely up there with my favourite indie authors, and her work never fails to surprise, excite and hook me! Another easy five star read, do yourself a favor and read this series!
*Got this book for free to leave a review on it.* This book is as good as the first one. However there were a couple of things that gives it a 4 star to a 4.5 star. The pace is a nice tension build up to what is to come. It suits the story quite well. The only things I though that were a down fall was the tension in the climax. It felt like it was a build up to the climax instead of the climax. It just felt like there was going to be more then what it actually was. I was happy and a little sad with Rowan character growth. I was hoping we could see through her point of views in some chapters to walk in her shoes and feel her grow. Over all to Rowan character growth it was good. Just wish we had more time with her and having sister bonding time. I kinda felt like she put her sister second and put her relationship first. Overall to the story good story to read looking forward to reading the third book. Would like to see where the story is going.

Huntress up the stakes once again with Victoria Wren’s compelling and highly-readable Wild Spirit series, and with Huntress, everything that was so compelling about the first book – the story, the characters and the world Victoria has created – was ratcheted up another notch in Huntress, which expands and extends the saga that Win Adler finds herself in.
Victoria again impressed me with her breezy and easy-to-read prose that doesn’t shy away from being stylish, and it really brought me along with the story as it pulled me along! There’s some breath-taking moments that shatter the status quo we are introduced to in Huntress, and with a compelling prologue that’s beautifully written and well-integrated into the main story and with an equally exciting prologue that makes your heart do somersaults knowing you’ll have to wait for the next book.
The Wild Spirit universe is a wonderfully crafted and inspired universe and Huntress expands it magnificently.
I also bought the paperback version and once again was blown away by the beauty of the design – quality work that is deserving of such a fine book.
Okay... When I didn't think it could get any better Victoria has written this masterpiece, just wow this was incredible, this is book 2 to the series and the build from book 1 to book 2 is just incredible it's a brilliant engaging story which continues wins story and about her families curse, I loved the extra characters and again the art in the book It felt so real. The plot was amazing and attention to detail, after finishing this book I need to get book 3 I am obsessed with this series and again the cover the art is just beautiful
May 2024 re-read: As said about THE CURSE OF WIN ADLER coming back to this world was like returning home.
Once started to read, it is impossible to put the book down. This instalment was nail biting and absolutely heart-breaking. I absolutely love this universe.
