OMG, this book was so amazing! River of Love is not your typical love story. It takes you on an amazing journey of discovery and growth and, trust me when I say, you will enjoy the ride. River (I refuse to call her Izzy. Read the book; you’ll understand) has unknowingly been raised in a religious cult by her adoptive parents and married off to the leader at the tender age of 14. River escaping The Community and learning to function in the outside world is the crux of the storyline. When she meets Hannibal, Cleopatra, and Grandma Connie and learns what real love and family truly are, it’ll warm your heart. I’m not going to give a detailed review. This is definitely a book you want to go into with zero spoilers. Once again, Mel Dau has written a book with uncomfortable subject matter but still manages to give us a beautiful and insightful story. In today's society, this book was needed. We have too many of these false "Prophets" abusing and misinterpreting the word of God to manipulate folks to conform to their ways. River of Love was a phenomenal read. Mel Dau’s creativeness really shines through in this book. Do yourself a favor and read it. You won’t be disappointed.
I’m a very emotional person by nature, but this book took me to a whole other level when it comes to emotions. I went from confusion to anger to crying in under 20 minutes. Needless to say, this book is so messed up but so good!!
I’m pretty sure I read one of the worst characters I’ve ever experienced in a book, here. The author’s decision to have a POV for the character was maddening at first but by the end of the story, I see the essence.
I’m not going to tell you many details about the plot of the book, but I can tell you, it is a good fucking book that will take you an a wild freaking ride!
This book is “do not judge a book by its cover” personified.
This was such a great story. What a unique story. River was so smart and such a good mom. She planned perfectly how to get her and her kids out of a tough situation. River meets Hannibal and he falls in live with her and her children. Such a great love story. 5 star read!
Queen Mel Dau dug deep for this one, like Wow! I ain't gonna lie that prologue threw me for a loop cause I wasn't expecting to read what I read. Pedophiles/Child Molesters are a trigger for a lot women. I read the last chapter to see if I should press on and it was such an AMAZING book. Like this book was on another level. In today's society this book was needed. We have too many of these "Prophets" abusing and misusing the word of God to manipulate folks into confirming to their way of living. Parents really be giving their daughter's to these disgusting pedophile ass frauds😡😡😡. As a parent you have one motherfudgesicklestix job and that's to love, protect and provide for your child/children. That "Prophet" got off too damn easy in my opinion. God really shined house light on River. Her being as naive as she was was the best thing for her, in my opinion. It helped in protecting her mind from the trauma she suffered as a child. That damn Hannibal was the truth through and through. He was rude but the ish was so sexy, I couldn't help but be turned on. His whole family was dope as and the way they accepted River and her babies with open arms, priceless. I cried, laughed harder than I've laughed in a while, but more importantly I felt the love as of it was being given to me💜.

Different type of read than what I am used to from you, but it was a great story! What an emotional journey you took us on. Izzy was enjoying life as best she could, until her parents got her caught up in some cult ish! That damn Prophet had me so angry, at all of the things that he subjected those people to, especially Izzy. River finding her way, was like watching a butterfly emerge for the first time. Everything to her was bright, shiny and new! Meeting Hannibal, although under not to pleasant circumstances, was a miracle in disguise. All the pieces began to fall into place, to allow her to plan for her next phase of life. Hannibal was a straight shooter! A bit gruff, and crass, but he had a good heart. The way they were drawn to each other, helped and learned from the other was everything! River was deserving of all the love that Hannibal and his family had to offer her. Sarah was so adorable! Gave me a tension headache at the end there, but all was well. Really enjoyed this one! 👍👍👍
Very good premise and interstinf subject matter in this book. Awesome read completed in one sitting and did not disappoint. River basically grew up in the bubble of the community and her light dimmed because of her experience. Sarah is all the things that River was as a child and reignited her zest. Patra recognized the sweet spirit and was thr friend that River needed to begin again. Hannibal and his crass nature had me ready to box him. River intrigued Hannibal and definitely grabbed his attention quickly. The contrast of the real character of Prophet gave all the Jim Jones likeness. Glad River stayed close to God's spirit within led her to escape her upbringing and form her own Community.

When I say I love Mel Dau, I absolutely mean it! She can definitely write a story!! When I first started this book I felt some kind of way but once I opened my mind to her story, I got where she was taking us.
Hannibal and River’s love story was unique. They started off on the wrong foot but once he started to understand her story, he realized she was the one for him. And from there their relationship bloomed into so much more.
It was funny to watch the relationship between Hannibal’s best friend and sister, Cleopatra and Beaux. She was scared to tell him about them but once Beaux put his foot down and told him. It was nothing but love.
If you haven’t already read this book it definitely needs to be added to your TBR!
Initially I was ready to stop reading this book but recalling the author's previous works I decided to keep reading. Glad I did. The storyline was definitely engaging and it even contained an appropriate dose of suspense. I wasn't sure how it would end. When I got to the end I was pleasantly surprised as well as intrigued. This author did her research and it showed in her work. I have to add that Hannibal was all book bae and that little Sarah stole my heart. If you find yourself like me ready to quit at the beginning of the book, DON'T! Expect the unexpected!
While this was my first read by Mel Dau, it will not be my last. It has been a while since I sat and read a book cover to cover in 1 day! This book had it all—love, romance, plot twists, and humor! Hannibal was rough around the edges but showered River and her kids with love and adoration. He was the ultimate protector and was eager to teach River the ways of life while letting her create who she was destined to be. The supporting characters were a loveable bonus as well. I wonder if the author will treat us with a story/spinoff about Beaux and Patra??? In discovering this author, I feel as if I have uncovered a rare gem!
This book here I have no words this book was phenomenal from beginning to end and it had so many twist and turns and I didn’t know what to expect my mouth was open throughout the whole book!!! River was my bay she didn’t stop what she wanted to do and when the time was right she did what needed to do!! And my babies I love them and Sarah was my boo and elisha was a protector!! And Hannibal and cleopatra and Gma Connie love them!!! I could go on and on !! Read the book it’s worth it
River is a strong woman to have have endured what she went through with Prophet. The fact that she planned how she was going to leave the Community was smart. Her young daughter Sarah is so funny! Now as harsh as Hannibal was in his first encounter with River, he quickly sorted up to her. I love that he showed River things she never got to see or experience. He didn’t’t try to change her, instead he allowed her to be herself! The community River and her kids needed were right in North Carolina all along.
FANTASTIC 👏👏👏👏, the characters development was awesome. This is the first book I have read by this author but it won't be the last. What was wrong with River's parents? Was everyone at The Community/Cult dumb? Had none of them read the bible before joining this place? A 20 something man should not be marrying a 14 year old. We all know we need to study the word of God for ourselves so we don't fall for anything someone may say. If you love stories💗💗💗💗 about strong, protective Alpha males this is the book for you. I loved the Sisterhood.
River was such a beautiful soul. I hate that her innocence of life was taken and was the victim of manipulation by the adults in her life. Her love of life and her children was inspiring.
Hannibal was no match for River. Her light shined bright in his life and opened him to a love like nothing he'd ever known. While Hannibal taught River many things, he also learned from her.
The community that anchored River and Hannibal was awesome. The love of family and friends is an amazing thing. All of the secondary characters were great.
This was an awesome story Mel outdid herself again with a timely topic of how people can be brainwashed by one individual and bring up children in a cult environment She handle this storyline in such a manner bringing you into the lives of River and Hannibal and how their paths intersects to become a family You need to read this story to see how this master storyteller flushes this out and leaves you turning the pages one after the other until the end and then you are sorry the story is over and you have to say goodbye Get your copy today
Ms. Mel Dau you are a gifted person. The scripture that states, "A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men." Proverbs 18:16 This scripture fit you perfectly.
This is another must read by Ms. Mel Dau. Her cleverness, intelligence, and creativeness shine bright throughout this book. It was well written and articulated from start to finish. River deserved a man like Hannibal. She needed ALL the true love she could handle. I do not want to give to many details of the book but trust me this is a must read.
I was so glad River had her Epiphany and got away from the Community, there was so much going on that I was fired up about. Hannibal and his family were a God send from the onset to River. Sophia got her just reward, nothing worse than a hater. I loved the evolution of River and how even in the midst of the unknown she still stepped out on faith. I enjoyed it.
That was GOOD! The way Hannibal had that instant connection to River was admirable and truly sexy. I really enjoyed River getting to know her true self, there's nothing better than living your best life! I hate the way things went down with Prophet, no thanks to Sophia, but they all got theirs when it was due. This book was amazing, this author never lets me down and I look forward to her future works!
The creativity in this storyline was everything! I really loved it. Prophet was something else! I loved Rivers personality because even though she was naive to a lot of things she loved her family and her spirit was refreshing. Hannibal was a straight fool but live definitely changed him for the better. Great Job
The best thing River did was take her kids and get out of the community. Prophet wanted people to follow him and give him their money. It was fate for Hannibal to find River's kids in the car. Hannibal and Patra instantly became close to River and she began to trust them. Awesome book!
I have read just about all of Mel Dau's Books. And thoroughly enjoy every one of them. This one was a bit different to me. But it was just as good. Nice story. Gives you a different outlook on cult like behaviors and how one woman managed to escape it and relearn life. Great job as always Mel .
This was so good and so different. I love the way River and Hannibal were brought together. Sarah was such a sweet little girl. And Elisha was about protecting his mama. The Community and Prophet was out of this world. Every now and then on real life we hear about these religious fanatics. Definitely made this book stand out!
I must admit Mel is my new favourite author, her storytelling is amazing and engaging . She sucks you in her story from the start. I couldn’t predict any of the plot twists, which I like. This book is highly recommended, theme discuss are religion, abuse, adoption, love and family !
This book was a hard pill to swallow in the beginning!!!…I had to take a deep breath and push through!!!…I’m glad I did because Hannibal was hilarious with his mouth!!!… River definitely found her community after she left Prophet and I’m her and her children made it out!!!…Sophia was so pressed and she finally got what she was looking for!!!…
So i was strolling facebook and i came across the cover of this book and im so glad i did! This story was amazing, it was sad and made me cry but baby it’s a great story. I seriously need to take Mel Dau catalog and just start from the top and work my way down. She never disappoint
Amazing love story from beginning to end I couldn't put it down ❤️❤️❤️ Mel Dau did her thang I so love her books he put you right in you fell the characters. Simply the best 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was not expecting this story when I first started reading it. The twists that were in this sorely were everything. Once you thought you had something figured out then bam it was something else. Great read.
Mel really outdid herself with this one. She proves over and over that her pen📝 game is insane. I was on the fence about this book but I am sooooo glad I got it. Great 👍job Mel!!👌👏😍
Loved what Hannibal and River shared he showed her true love from the start while rescuing her from that crazy man Prophet. This was a unique storyline but I loved it from start to finish!!!!
I love Mel Dau's books ,but I promise this is my favorite one! River and Hannibal was the ish! I liked how Patra looked out for River. Reading this book I laughed and cried a little, but I almost danced at the justice that prophet got!!!!
