Marshmallows have never been this tasty... Or this murderous.
When Ruby and Bee arrive in Grapefield, New York, for a winter's end getaway, they're sure they're in for a relaxing break. But the local bakery has been shut down by the health inspector and everyone in town is clamoring for their baked goods.
The opportunity seems too good to pass up until Ruby finds the body of the baker buried in the woods. With suspicions mounting and a murderer on the loose, it's up to the baking duo to solve the case before their vacation ends.

I really love the cast of characters listing in the beginning of the book.
Poor Ruby, Bee and Jamie have traveled to Grapefield, NY for a well deserved vacation only to get caught up in another murder investigation. Shortly after arriving, Jamie and Ruby decide to go for a hike and Ruby literally trips over the burried body of Henry Hughes, the town baker. While Ruby and Bee try to investigate without Jamie finding out they eventually have to tell him what they are doing. He helps them out and they figure out who the killer is before another resident can be murdered.

Ruby and Bee head off on vacation for a little R and R. When they arrive, their mobile bakery is swarmed with people clamoring for baked goods. The local bakery has just been closed due to a health code violation and now everyone is left craving sweets. Sadly for them, these bakers are on vacation! That is, until Ruby stumbles over the body of a dead man who turns out to be Henry Hughes, the baker. Ruby instantly becomes a suspect and she and Bee are determined to clear her name. They might as well sell a few baked goods while the gossip with the locals to get leads on the case right?
These little mysteries don't hold my interest even as short as they are. There was really no reason for Ruby to be a suspect. I didn't care who killed Harry. It seemed pretty obvious to me but it turned out not to be so cut and dry. There was a twist I didn't expect.
Harry was a nasty piece of work. His ego was the size of the small town and he managed to antagonize everyone he ever met. His wife Sherry seems to be a grieving widow but rumor has it they didn't get along. She's always accompanied by her pool boy (in winter!) Horatio, dresses in designer clothes and drives a fancy car. Where does her money come from? Is Horatio her boy toy? Did they conspire to kill Harry? Did Horatio do it? He seems to be light fingered when in Sherry's house!
Other suspects include Carl Anthony, Henry's best friend. Carl is the only one with anything good to say about Harry and seems truly broken up over his friend's death. Carl appears to be a sweetheart but he does have a darker side he seldom reveals. His wife Miranda doesn't seem well-suited to him. She, too, seemed to enjoy Harry's company, or she put up with him for the sake of her marriage. Miranda seems unhappy now though and the local gossip gives her a good reason to want Harry gone! Lyle Grace, a glassblower who owns a shop. He hated Harry. They were feuding and Harry owed Lyle a ton of money. He's quick to share his story of revenge and point the finger at someone else. Did he really do what he said? Was he satisficed with that? I would guess yes because he won't get his money back if Harry is dead.
Detective Boyd will never figure this out on his own. He's too much of a local to want to listen to gossip and not good enough of a policeman to actually have honed instincts. He doesn't have enough experience with murder I guess.
I'm not really into these short little mysteries. The baked goods sound amazing but the mysteries are a little dull.
I like Bee better than Ruby. She's no nonsense and less emotional. Ruby is softer in spite of a former career as an investigative journalist. Her boyfriend Jamie is all wrong for her. He's a little possessive and doesn't like her investigating. She lies to him which doesn't bode well for their future.
When Bee and Ruby agreed to go on vacation with Ruby's sweetie Jamie, they made a promise that they wouldn't get involved in any murders or even open the truck to work. This was supposed to be a relaxing vacation, the operative words being supposed to and relaxing, lol. Poor Jamie, he of course would be with Ruby when she stumbled over a body this time.
It was fun to see how inventive they had to get to keep Jamie out of the loop which eventually made Ruby feel guilty, so I'm glad she came clean with him. There was a good twist I didn't see coming regarding the killer, but it was still the person I kind of suspected. It sounds like the girls are headed into Pennsylvania next, so it'll be interesting to see what adventures they have there.
Jamie, Ruby, and Bee are on vacation. They get to a small town named Grapefield. while on a hike with Jamie, Ruby literally trips over a dead body. It is Henry Hughes the local baker. His wife sherry has been out of town for a few months with the pool boy. Ruby and Bee are drawn to solve this murder like a moth to a flame only one big problem...Jamie. He arranged this vacation so he and Ruby could spend more time together. Now Ruby and Bee have to find ways to work around Jamie so he doesn't know what they are actually doing. Can they fool Jamie who used to be a police detective and solve the murder or will they be busted on both counts? I really enjoy Ruby and Bee traveling in the food truck to different places. This time they and Jamie are in Grapefield for a vacation. Unfortunately, Ruby stumbled across a dead body and thus the investigation begins. Although Jamie is against them investigating, they feel compelled to help. Join Ruby and Bee as they unravel the clues.
The description of the small town made you feel like you were there and a part of the community. The plot and characters were well-written, making you feel like you are friends. This was a perfect cozy mystery with just the perfect amount of humor, romance, mystery, intrigue, quirky characters, and adventure that will keep any reader completely engaged.

Nomads Ruby and Bee take a vacation after leaving Prattlebark with boyfriend Jamie. However, Jamie's stomach issues isn't the only thing to make them queasy. Literally stumbling upon a dead body of the local baker, finding themselves on the suspect list, and health violations of said baker is bound to make anyone's stomach turn. This time even baked goods will not be enough to leave them in anyone's good graces.

This time Bee, Ruby and Jamie go on vacation and they arrive at a town only to be surrounded by hungry would be customers. I loved the way the author described the opening scene. Fun short cozy Ruby and Bee along with Jamie take a vacation. The couple, Ruby and Jamie stumble across a body when they go for a hike and the ladies just can't walk away from the mystery. They snoop and follow the clues to a surprising ending. I received an ARC copy gratis and offer my opinion freely
Fun quick read. I like how the main characters’ personalities compliment each other. A different setting in this series of traveling in a food truck and staying in small towns for short periods of time keeps the stories fresh. Lots of suspects and red herrings! Didn’t guess the bad guy! Looking forward to the next town!
What can I say but another good read of a cozy murder mystery. I’ve liked all of the books in the series, no make that loved all of the books The characters are strong with different, but similar interests. In solving mysteries. Can’t wait for the next one in the series.

I really enjoy read each & every book in this series. Great characters. I love that they move from town to town. I can't wait to see who they encounter in the next town.
Another good entry in the bite-sized bakery series. Jamie, Ruby and Bee go to rural New York for vacation and Ruby literally trips over a dead body so of course, they have to help solve the case. Looking forward to their next adventure.
Who killed Henry Hughes and why??? Ruby and Bree with some help from Jamie will figure things out -eventually, won't they??? I enjoyed this story and recommended the book.
This book was predictable and not as well written as the others. I missed the bantering of Bea and Ruby as well as the quirky characters usually found Roise's books.
