I don’t want the light if it doesn’t include them…
The human terror organization MAM has come to our doorstep—we just don’t know what they want. When a nightmare who resides in the high-security section of the institute tells us that this chaos, this hate that the humans feel is because of a god terror, we realize that the solution to our problems lies outside of the institute walls. Walls I’ve never left before… Something that is about to change.
Traveling across the country in an RV with my nightmares? What could possibly go wrong? Apparently a lot, and when we find ourselves in a nightmare forest far from home, we realize that our problem is so much worse than we ever imagined.
Will we be able to save the institute, or will chaos and hate reign supreme?
Join Arabella and her possessive nightmares as one human woman finds the monster within herself to protect those that she loves. The ISS series is promised to feature terrifying monsters that include everything from the literal monster under the bed to Lucifer’s overbearing son, the prince of Hell.
If you love large harems, brilliant, sassy, but slightly naive female main characters with no fear, and a thrilling adventure filled with steam, vengeance, and a happily ever after, then you are absolutely going to love this.
Warning: This medium-fast burn RH contains several dark themes from swearing, violence, and sexual themes suitable for +18.
M. Sinclair is a USA Today Best-Selling Author who can be found writing or thinking about her characters and plots nearly every moment of the day. With over 65 published works since her debut in 2019, her work spans from paranormal to contemporary romance rooted in extensive world-building and deep character development. M. Sinclair believes there is enough room for all types of heroines in this world, and that being saved is just as important as saving others.
Just remember to love cats... that's not negotiable.
I liked the concept of this series, with the Nightmares and world building regarding that, but I pretty much disliked everything else about this on a personal level. It's not bad, but it is so filled with RH tropes that I grew bored and annoyed with it quickly.
They are supposedly terrifying Nightmares, but all 7 of them trail around after her like love sick puppies, which was a bit nauseating really. There was just no depth there.
You also had the whole RH trope of them all having different nicknames for her and there were is many guys that they all get a brief mention, but you don't feel like you know them at all.
To be honest, I just reminded me why I have gone off the genre, or at least this type of book on the genre.
However, if you like all of the sorts of things I mentioned, and many people do, then this is a cool concept, if you can get past all of the tropes.
I had an exceptionally hard time finishing this, and honestly I don’t know why. I really wanted to love this- I love the idea of this book but the follow through is lacking. The storyline is lost in a TON of rambling. Hashing and rehashing thoughts and feelings it just starts to feel generic. I feel really bad for the one nightmare who had been with her from the very beginning- he becomes an afterthought. He’s not well developed and he doesn’t really get an equal say, and he’s been with her the longest. Idk I really don’t feel like I felt much connection to the characters. The constant stream of dragging out the dialogue made me put the book down multiple times. I legit kept coming back to it at least 4 separate times. I love the idea of this book but it’s missing a lot of depth and plot. It has a ton of potential . I really hope this writer improves their writing.
Good characters, interesting story, absolutely not digging the format.
Whatever this obsession is with chopping up a story and having the next part 9 months out chaps my ass. Smaller books for paperback publishing reasons? Yeah. This not finishing a story before getting the first part out just baffles me. 1/20 do I ever even bother finishing these types series even if all the parts are published. The overall storyline seems to suffer pacing problems. The whole thing just doesn't hang together right.
This book was amazing. I love how only M Sinclair can write about scary murderous monsters that can be sexy and sweet.
At the end of the last book the humans had brought their army to ISS headquarters and Ara and all the nightmares were at risk of war. Realising that the Chaos nightmare was at fault and working with the humans, Ara goes on her first mission with her team to try and talk the nightmares out of their big chaos plan. Along the way, Ara finally gets the chance to be closer to her nightmares even though there is still a bit of miscommunication and stubbornness along the way. We also get to meet a few new characters and I can’t wait to find out more in book 3!
After Saint suspicion about the fact that Arabella isn't completely human and could mate with nightmares has been proved, the institute had to face a massive attack from the MAM, a group of human whose mission is to eradicate nightmares. Guessing that this attack could have been instigated by other powerful nightmares (Chaos and Hate), they decided to take the road and go find them. I was not a big fan of the roadtrip concept. It made sense in a way considering that Arabella had never left the institute and that the storyline couldn't keep going only inside the walls of the institute but anyway, not convinced. I loved how the guys were possessive about Arabella. She litteraly drove them crazy...or maybe they were already totally insane🧐 They all had their own character and way to behave around Arabella which was kind of cute. No need to say that 7 ultra possessive dominant creatures packed in one RSV with the woman of their dreams was just hilarious! Between the constant banters, fights, and romantic gestures, they didn't have time to be bored😂 And especially with a new incomer..🤫 Expect a terrifiying cliffhanger! It would be time for the guys to prove how much they were powerful!
There was not enough action to get me to finish this book. I follow the author and usually love the work. Book 1 was mostly the thoughts and feelings of SEVEN + mates. At the end the story was maybe picking up but the relationships dominate every sentence of the book of will they or won't they. Book 2 is when will the plowing begin. There isn't much of a story but the final straw was calling these centennials, who are the most lethal beings on earth, BOYS. Repeatedly. I was being generous with 2 stars because maybe it got better by the end of the book but I could not torture myself any further.
I love this series so far! I’m so glad we got to see Arabella interact with each of her nightmares and learn more about each one. I love how protective they are of her and they’re all a bunch of growly overbearing alphas at times for sure! Things are getting more exciting as they venture into the world of nightmares. And the steam…sheesh. I can’t wait to read the next book especially after that ending! I need more ASAP!
I am really enjoying the world and the characters and I'm intrigued to see where it goes, but man do I hate cliffhangers. I do think sometimes there are a bit too many characters, I didn't reread the first one before I went into it and I had jot everyone down on a sticky note to keep everyone straight.
This MC has the personality of a stale peanut and they add a new guy every 5 seconds. There were 5 in the beginning of the first book i think. 6 by the end, and in the second book another is getting added. I can't even list all the guys names or differentiate them yet the author keeps adding more. Giving up on this book.
The best series to date by far from this author, Arabella proves that she isnt breakable at least not when it comes to her mates - however lots of delicious questions are raised in this book including what is Arabella's heritage as she is so much more than she seems. Amazing charatcer interactions and plenty of sizzle and steam Just Brilliant!
I read the first book which was pretty lackluster, nothing of consequence really happened and it was mostly her rambling thoughts of her guys over and over. The plot was super weak but I figured I'd give the 2nd book a shot anyway.
ZERO IMPROVEMENT! Evidently, nothing is more important than the FMC getting it on at any given time. Her thoughts are CONSTANTLY on her guys, sex and very little else. It seemed as though the plot was improving but at 44% read, it was still 90% just about sex.
I want plot, real plot. I read these books for the plot with a touch of romance and smut, not the other way around. The sex scenes are well written but I have issues with the way the men and her behave in the lead up. If there was more plot in these books, I'd really like them but it's very much secondary and that's not my thing.
I read the first and really wanted to DNF but the story was interesting even when everything was terrible. The plot is ok but the MFC is slower than a rock throughout all the story even though she keeps saying she's smart. She puts herself in ridiculous scenarios when she could have solved it in a million simple safer ways. And for someone who grew up in this facility she never questions anything or researches anything that might actually be useful.
Sadly, I expected more from this book. I stopped reading 75% of the way in because it just became too dull. I honestly couldn't tell the guys apart the girl was predictable.
🤩Book 2 in a 4 book series. This would be a 5 star read but there are some things that could be more on point. I am feeling the feels and I am invested in the characters but the storyline is leaving much to be desired so far.
❣️Things I Liked/Loved❣️
💗My Saint- ”Oh yes, her garden. The garden of dead corpses that fertilized the beautiful flowers I took care of meticulously to channel my obsessive energy towards her that I hadn’t been able to express up until this point. Now maybe we could actually garden together.”
‼️That all the guys except Amun are V 🥳I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS! Love no OW! Love no past! 💗
‼️The Nightmare theme was a great interesting twist on a monster world. The world 🌎 building is good esp if you read the previous book and intro into the world of Nightmares (Mating Monsters). ‼️BUT THE PLOT IS NOT THE BEST SO FAR. It’s slow moving and shall I say… lacking? I hope the plot picks up and gets more exciting!
‼️Literally TOUCH HER YOU DIE …. It’s no joke! I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SO MUCH THEY ARE OTT JP EXTEME 💕
‼️THE HAREM IS SO LOYAL AND FAITHFUL AND SWOON AND PROTECTIVE AND OTT JP EXTREME AND JUST EVERYTHING. I love how MS writes her men! The harem is on point.
❤️🔥The restaurant scene with Razor 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥fuck that was hot we need more scenes like that!
Things I Did 💔 Not Like
❌Every time one of her many men were introduced we had to sit through 2-3 paragraphs about how much she wanted him, how hot he was and how he looked since these nightmares all have a lot of different hair colors/ tattoos/ eye colors and so on. Imagine one scene where they all enter the room and tell me how that scene would go….. yeah 😳 I mean imagine a convo that is so broken up by the long winded deets and her desire and just …..😳🔫 ✋🏻Now now I get we need refreshers at the beginning of a book but there are better ways.
❌Would like more mating/ MS has a weird way of mating at the most random in opportune times that it can be off putting and frustrating. ESP when they live together and can mate at anytime.
❌Would like more action overall - often times when action is happening Arabella is somehow distracted and we only hear some stuff never really get to see or experience the fighting and action. I hate this.
❌Razor to get his head out of his ass
❌The Forrest scene seemed out of place to me and was weird. Not my fav.

❌My opinion is just that… MY OPINION. I know we all get passionate about our favorite reads and characters but we should respect each opinions a thoughts. ~Thank you
I thought I loved the first one, I really loved this one; it almost feels like an inadequate word to be honest.
I cannot wait until the 3rd book. I absolutely love the guys. I love how unique and different they all are, I love their love and devotion for Arabella, I love their possessive and sometimes obsessive ways. And I love how she accepts them, wholeheartedly. The steamy scenes were majorly spicy and the plot is so interesting, I didn’t want to put the book down for anything. I read it quickly over the course of the morning and if the 3rd was out I would’ve read that today too. M. Sinclair has the best, monstrous imagination and I love getting lost in the ISS world.
Despite being literal nightmares, the guys are the sweetest, most painfully cute terrors ever; I felt myself misting up a few times when they allowed themselves to be vulnerable — especially Amun and his special jewelry, Damian and his past, and Zain with his very painful former life. Razar needs to get his head out of his ass, though. I love him to pieces but the others are right, he’s just hurting himself & Arabella by denying his true nature.
I’m curious to see where things go with Ashur, and of course the way things turn out. And I’m kind of hoping we get some sort of disgustingly cute epilogue where Arabella & her men get the kids they’re all looking forward to, despite that not being my kinda thing. Idk, something about monsters wanting monster kidlettes it’s just… cute.
Arabella is back with her men and lawd is the book worth the wait. So we pick up where we left off in book one and trying to figure out what the next move is. So her men are all worried about how far their relationship can be taken with Arabella since she is a human. However, something changes once they realize that she has been with Saint. In some ways it is funny how possessive these men are of her. She is always reassuring them that she can handle them. We also learn more about her and the danger she can be in. The more she is with these men something changes. Now we must wait and see how this will all play out. So now she decides to go out of the institute to find Peace and Hate to try and stop what is to come. Only things are happening along the way. You would think that she would be scared but this girl is fearless. Like dang woman I would be shaking in my bones. So what happens when they make it to their destination. Did they pick up another terror? Only we don't get to find out much about this cause it leaves us hanging. With Hate saying some stuff to them and it was not good. I was like oh no, oh no, oh no. Needless to say I was cursing M. Sinclair at first then stated touche M. Touche. Like I should no better by now, she loves leaving us like that. Please do not let the wait be long.
This book starts right where the first one ended with the institution being attacked. Arabella is just as brave and feisty in this sequel and we really get to see her take charge and hold her own against all of her mates and all the outside forces.
I loved that we got out of the institution in this one and got to see what all of her mates are like in the real world. It was also really cool getting to meet and see a variety of other nightmares. I won’t drop any names or kinds because I don’t want to spoil anything.
We definitely got a lot more action with Arabella and her mates which was great because I don’t do well with slow-burn books lol We got POVs from the guys which was awesome, especially when they had flashbacks to the past with Arabella and we got to learn more about them and how they truly feel about her and each other.
I’m still on the fence with Ashur….like I want to like him but I was already pretty pleased with the harem as it was and so I don’t know….I guess I just didn’t expect her harem to grow anymore seeing as there were already so many of them and they already try so hard not to fight about her.
That cliffhanger was surprising, definitely didn’t see that coming but probably should have lol I can’t wait for the next book!
Defending Nightmares starts right where Soothing Nightmares left off. Arabella is trying to defend the institute while also convincing her monsters that she is able to be with them physically as well as mentally.
Arabella is such an adorably strong and quirky character. He lack of fear makes her interactions with nightmares both awe inspiring and hilarious. M. Sinclair has done an amazing job at creating an FMC that you can easily fall in love with and completely understand why each guy loves her as well.
Sometimes in books with large harems the personalities of each member can become blurred with the others. Luckily, that is not the case in this series. Each male has a very distinct personality that is easily picked out and differentiated. It’s hard not to love each of the guys for all of their strengths as well as there flaws. Not to mention the banter between all of them is sure to have you cackling.
This book ramps up the heat and spice compared to the first book. Giving Arabella the love and intimacy she has been craving all while she is on her first mission with the guys outside of the institute.
This book delves a little deeper in the reason why there is so much discord between humans and nightmares and I love the little spin M. Sinclair puts on things. I’m excited to see what else is in store for Arabella and her guys.
M. Sinclair, Do not stop writing! This series is ❤️🔥
This Series was one that I have wanted to read for a while, but knew that I would need a few days, even a week, to read this and allow me to focus on all that was being given. That is why it has taken me a couple of years to read the whole series. (My Preference for waiting on that long!!!)
The first book will hook you in and not let you go till the end of the series. I love that M. Sinclair and her ability to describe each MMC multiple times and include each and every one in all the books, and not feel left out. It can be hard with many MMCs to include each for a whole series, and she did it wonderfully. Each MMC was thought out and made beautifully. The FMC was strong and something that I think was done beautifully as well.
Each Book in the series was done well, and I would ONLY change ONE THING which is.... The time frame of the series was only a few weeks..... and SO MUCH happens.... I want to see the plot match the timeline. I want to see how they would do long-term. We have these relationships and plots that are mixed together (which is fine), but it needs to be realistic... (In my opinion, I would have just loved to have book before the plot of War took place- I felt like it was needed to know what is going on before the series started (Hope this makes sense)
Even with the timeframe, I would so recommend this series!
I have read two series by M. Sinclair and I really liked them both. So I dove head first into this series expecting to love it. The first book in this series I finished but gave a low rating because it was way too much inner monologue going on with very little action. This book still moves slow at times, but because the first book was so much in one characters head I did not get invested in the dynamic overall, so not even half way through the second book I fond I don't care.
I wanted to love this book. I love some of the men, Saint, Cy, and Amun in particular. Razar in the first book was wonderful, but in this book was just and over the top Neanderthal that was irritating.
The pacing was all over the map. It seems like the pressing issue of enemies bearing down on them was on the back burner to their entanglement. I don't want to give spoilers, but imagine you have intruders breaking banging on your front door and back door promising their friends are on their way and you and your SO decide to sit down and figure out your relationship in that moment. That is just one of many issues with the pacing I had with this series.
I will read Sinclair again, but this was a DNF for me.
Note: This is book two of the series. It picks up from the ending of book one, and ends in a traumatic (5/5) cliffhanger ready for book three. It is NOT a standalone.
Arabella and her monstrous mates, hit the road to try and find the terrors that can either help or hinder their goal to stop the attack on the I.S.S. It’s not the smoothest of sailing, and there are plenty of dangers ready to target Arabella…
As she gets closer to each of her mates, Arabella learns a little more about who she is, and who they are. She’s also learning a lot more about how brutal the human world can be to Nightmarekind. She’s a fun character, and I enjoy her unusual perspective, which can be darkly humorous at times.
This is an entertaining read, with an unusual set of antiheroes (ok, they are monsters, they are NOT good, and they enjoy fear), and a heroine who truly has no capacity for terror. At times steamy, and at other times action packed, it’s an original and engrossing urban fantasy. If you enjoy monster heroes, RH romance, and urban/contemporary fantasy that veers a little to the dark side, then you’ll enjoy this book.
This book makes your beg for nightmares……but only of the Arabella variety. All the other ones are scary. M. Sinclair has a way with making you forget they are monsters, until you remember why they call them nightmares. We find out more about Arabella and why Saint is so sure she is meant for them. But we also find out that what might be their saving grace, will also put an X on Arabella’s back. Especially now that Arabella is going on her first mission with her team. She is a human who gets along better with nightmares than humans. Which means it’s gonna be a bloodbath. I honestly have a calendar with dates of M. Sinclair’s release dates. Her writing and alpha’s make every book one of my favorites. They always end up on my re-read list, and this is no different. I always add one or more of her characters to my imaginary harem… and I think Saint and Damian are now on the roster. Welcome to the dark side where We no longer read reviews or wait for a complete series before buying her books.
𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋 𝐓𝐀𝐊𝐄: This book has won my heart a million times over...the cliffhanger of Book 1 was the worst but this book made the wait worth it for me. The world building, characters, the unique bond Arabella has with each guys...woww just woww...you don't see this type of deep connection in every book, and it was my fortune to read this here.
Arabella and the guys are back...one thing is for sure...not all the monsters are bad but man...some are the worst. I love how the bonds between the characters are shown in such deep insight in this book. The story development was amazing... made me want to keep reading without wasting even a second.
Will warn you guys...AGAIN, The cliffhanger is bad one...and again, the torture was worth it.
Spicy hotttttt! Oh man, this book was steamy and delicious. We finally have the guys accepting Arabella as their mate and girl after realizing she isnt as fragile as they thought...thank you Saint! Let me tell you, after all the tension and build up we got in book one this book delivered!
We also get a lot more plot development in this book after ISS Is attacked. The guys and Arabella venture out to locate more nightmares who may have answers on the attack and/or be the cause without spoiling this book. During this adventure we see some amazing world building by Sinclair including a forest that I wish existed and meet another potential nightmare mate for our girl.
There is a lot of action in this book and leads to a cliffhanger that made me want to scream in the best ways. I cannot wait for the next book with this harem and to continue with the adventure to save ISS and the nightmares.
This book definitely was a steamy read. All that tension built up in the first book was released in this one. If you have read the first one and loved it as much as I did, than this one will blow you away.
Arabella in this book is for the very first time leaving the institute and going on a mission rather than sit on the sidelines. In the first book we never really got a glimpse of what society is like on the outside other than the MAM organization but this one showed more about how the population is.
At the end of the first book though with Saint proving Arabella can survive mating, that sets off a major change in the others and they somehow become even more dominant and alpha than they already were.
Also I just love how sweet Arabella is in how she treats other nightmares that even her team seem slightly wary of.
I really love this series! Arabella and her Nightmares are quickly becoming one of my favorite M Sinclair series, which is saying a lot because she has so many good ones. I love the concept of all these Nightmares and get excited when they come across new ones to learn about. Now that Arabella and her men have left the ISS to find the Nightmares responsible for influencing the humans, we get to meet even more. I like seeing her relationships/bonds grow with most of her men in this book and I love how they interact. There are a couple guys I wish we would’ve had more time on in this book, but hopefully we will in the next book. There is a possible new addition that I really want to learn more about too. Overall, it’s another great addition to this series and I’m looking forward to the next book. I definitely need more Nightmares ❤️
Seriously freaking incredible! I love this series so flipping much and this book just ramped up my love tenfold! Arabella is one awesome, bada** FMC! I love that she is so protective, loyal and loving towards her mates but also towards all nightmares. The lengths she would go to to protect those she loves is truly beautiful. She has a genuine heart of gold and it is truly outstanding to see her interact with those she loves and new people she meets along the way.
I’m obsessed with Arabella’s mates. They love Arabella fiercely and would protect her with their lives. I love that they are all so unique and intriguing in their own way. It adds such an incredible dynamic and level of awe to the book that has be completely consumed.
This book was action-packed and full of adventure. I genuinely cannot wait to see where book 3 takes us!
