I eagerly looked forward to this novel after reading the rest of the series. The author’s research and gift for writing are evident. She reflects the faith and character of people who lived and were active in Patriot events leading to and during the Revolutionary War. I strongly suggest reading the series in order as it follows the lives of characters in historical sequence.

The author is an excellent storyteller, helping me imagine living during the Revolutionary War. To have corresponded with women like Abigail Adams, hand-sewn several flags in the preliminary design, and helped plan for the first Fourth of July celebration would have been incredible! To be in Charles Town three years later, living under siege in the city I had grown up, worshipped, and celebrated in would have been devastating. The people were stronger than they imagined, having taken the hardest challenges along with the most joyful times. The author does a fabulous job of showing how, through their example, we can wait on the Lord as her ancestors did.

Louis Lestarjette came to Charles Town, South Carolina from France looking for business opportunities. He spent time with his Aunt Jeannette and Uncle Henry; Jeannette was also from France. Louis became a completely different man, a man obedient to the Lord, by the time he married Elizabeth and became a father. He was a businessman, did extensive trade with his brother in France and non-British territories, and worked at his family’s mercantile. He became a Son of Liberty, working toward freedom for the colonies, meeting such greats as Benjamin Franklin and John Adams.

It is now 1777 and the ladies are organizing the first anniversary celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. British troops are moving through the south, and after Georgia’s surrender, head to Charles Town. We see the effects of fighting on those in town and in the country. Many young men came of age while fighting. Louis is part of the militia, should British troops try to take this major port city. He has been influential in getting help from France, and a young Marquis de Lafayette even came and fought alongside George Washington for a couple years before returning to his responsibilities in Versailles.

Elizabeth has been as active as possible, although not as much as before she married or had children. Her family was her primary responsibility, coming second only to God in her heart. She is pregnant again and has to temper her activities for the safety of herself and her unborn child. Then their beloved Charles Town is under siege by British troops, and the nightmare begins.

What impressed me most is the spiritual depth of the characters! It is the basis of all they did and how they lived and are still an example today. The author is a descendent of the Lestarjettes; it must have been exciting to have grown up hearing about one’s ancestors, their faith and courage, and their influence in the formation of our country! Feeling many times as if I were there brought life to the pages. I will miss seeing history and life from Elizabeth’s perspective! I highly recommend this to women of all ages who appreciate early US historical fiction reflecting real people who lived by faith in God.

From a thankful heart: I received a copy of this novel from the author and Celebrate Lit, and this is my honest review.

A One-More-Chapter Kind of Book

Marguerite Martin Gray’s Wait for Me, which is the fifth in the Revolutionary Faith Series is the best yet of this group of historical novels. Those of us who have read all of the other books in Marguerite’s series already know the main characters and much of what they have endured. Now we want to know what happens next. As a result, the plot keeps us reading while we lose sleep and allow dust bunnies to collect in our homes.

Accounts of the events of this new novel are readily available online. For example, the letter from Louis Lestarjette to Benjamin Franklin, which can be found by Googling, gives the story credibility. It is easy to read Wikipedia’ version of the Siege of Charleston along with the novel, but the novel breathes life into Louis and Elizabeth’s challenges. Without writing a spoiler, I’ll just tell you that Louis has to leave Elizabeth in a helpless state while he endures a dreadful situation.

Since Wait for Me is a historical novel, it has many characters. Perhaps a list in an Appendix would make it easier to remember who’s who. Because of the scope of the events, it is necessary for the author to tell some of it, but she shows what is happening within the closely-knit family. Marguerite has achieved a good balance of show and tell.

Wait for Me shows the grit of the Lestrajette family during war. The readers can smell the blood and smoke. It displays the sweetness of the family (by the way, Marguerite’s ancestors!), and it reveals the passion of lovers.

Wait for Me by Marguerite Martin Gray is a Christian Historical Romance.
It is book 5 in The Revolutionary Faith Series and also the final book in
the series. I have not read the first books in the series, but I felt that I
was able to engage in this book and understand the storyline.

The setting of the book is Charles Town, South Carolina, 1780. The
British are occupying Charles Town and Louis Lestarjette is worried
about his family as there is a possibility of imprisonment as the British
take over. Elizabeth Lestarjette is trying to find the best way to protect
her family during the seige by British. She is also pregnant with their
3rd child. Louis and Elizabeth begin to realize they need to "Hope for
the Best, Prepare for the Worst". Ultimately, they know God is in Control,
especially during times of War and and Seige. Will the Lestariette family
make it through the seige? Will their Faith be strengthened through the
events?

I really enjoyed this book. The author has a great writing style, that really
makes the reader feel they are in being taken back to the time period. I
felt this book reads well as a Stand Alone, but I am VERY interested in
reading the entire series in order. The Christian faith by the Family really
brings hope during the seige and when the family is unsure of what
could happen! FANTASTIC BOOK!

I so enjoyed Wait for Me, the fifth book in Marguerite Martin Gray’s Revolutionary Faith series. Mrs. Gray has used this book to whisk us away to Charlestown, South Carolina into the hometown of a group of patriots who fought for the very freedom we, as a nation, enjoy today.

Mrs. Gray’s characters are realistic and engaging. Their trust in God in the midst of the perils of battle and occupation by the British army is their strong suit. I found myself right there with them when the first cannon shot was fired. My heart pounded with fear and then relaxed with the knowledge that God was in control.

The author’s knowledge regarding the time period is flawless, and the story well written. This book is filled with strong female characters and men who are not afraid to let them be used by God to further the cause of freedom.

Marguerite Martin Gray has written a compelling historical novel that places you right in the middle of the battle for freedom. She uses her characters to show the strength it took for our ancestors to give us the freedom we have enjoyed over our lives and how precious that freedom is.

Though they prayed, fought, bled and lost, they looked on it as a detour, not defeat.

This story is so well written that I felt I was back in the 1780s witnessing a town fighting for freedom. The author has done an astounding job of depicting this time period with facts that paint a picture of a war that took so many. I loved reading how a town banded together to stand up to their enemy. The faith in the story flows so gracefully as we see characters trusting God to keep them safe.

It was intriguing to learn that some family members were in a secret mission. It was dangerous work and at anytime their life could be in peril. Each character brought something to the story that fit like a puzzle piece. I adored Elizabeth and her strength to keep those she loved safe. I can’t imagine what it would be like to have to hide in a basement praying that you would not be found.

I’m sad that this is the last in the series. I have come to love the history lessons and read about familiar people that graced history books. There are moments in the story that I held my breath as cannons shot off into the sky and bullets flashed by aiming for its mark. The author delivers a wonderful and emotional look at trusting God and standing in faith in the face of crisis.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Wait for Me By: Marguerite Martin Gray is a Christian Historical Romance. I have read several books by this author, and have enjoyed each and every one of them. This is book 5 in the revolutionary series. I have not read the entire series, but I did read the first two - and would recommend it . You will meet the characters in the beginning and watch them grow. In this story, we are transported to Charles Town, South Carolina in the year 1780. Louis and Elizabeth Lestarjette are facing the fear of the unknown. Louis can possibly go to prison while Elizabeth is pregnant with their 3rd child. So much has happened since we last visited with the Lestarjettes. Elizabeth will realize how much her friendships with other women and how important her faith will be to get her through this.

I have enjoyed the books that I have read in this series. I love the characters and seeing their growth. I love the historical research that went into this book. This is not a time period I read a lot about - but I feel like I learned so much.

I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher and the Celebrate Lit blogging program - all thoughts are my own.

I have enjoyed reading Marguerite Martin Gray’s “The Revolutionary Faith Series”. She’s combined great historical research with a story that’s full of drama. I have become invested in the lives of these characters, especially Louis and Elizabeth, and I was glad to finally get get through the war with this family. If you haven’t read the other books in this series, you can still enjoy this one on its own. But if you read these books in order, you’ll understand more of the tension and intrigue that builds in this last story.

In this book, I felt that I got a glimpse of what it must have been like for the residents of Charles Town to be under seize for so many days
with their families. I appreciated their “never quit” spirit and the way they were able to carry out missions even as the British were closely watching them. I especially enjoyed the faith of Elizabeth and how she claimed scriptures for strength and courage.

If you love to read clean, accurate Christian historical fiction, this is a series you won’t want to miss.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

I enjoy reading historical fiction and learning more about history in an enjoyable way. Marguerite Martin Gray takes readers back to the Revolutionary War in South Carolina in her series Revolutionary Faith. We see first hand what it was like to have family members traveling abroad as a diplomat or fighting in the war. We also see the preparation necessary for a siege and occupation. The faith of Louis and Elizabeth Lestarjette is evident in their everyday life. The story contains encouragement for those who have trials in their everyday lives, even if they are not living in a war zone.
Wait for Me is the fifth and final book in Marguerite Martin Gray’s Revolutionary Faith series based on the lives of actual people. While the book is part of a series and I’m sure the story builds on previous volumes, I have not read the entire series but was still able to understand and enjoy the plot line.
While Wait for Me is an adult historical fiction novel, there would be no problem adding it to a k-12 Christian school library. High schoolers and up who enjoy historical fiction will enjoy this book.

The Revolutionary War is a fun period to read about. It’s far enough away that most people don’t study it quite as much anymore so it’s always nice to find a good book or series that helps you delve into the War and its history.

This is book five in a series. You are going to want to read the series in order as the entire series does follow one family and plotline so you might get a little lost if you just start with this book, book five.

I love the research that obviously went into this book as the author gives you snippets of history that she has researched and brought into her books. Plus it’s just a well-written book. You get to visit Charles Town, which now I want to visit on my own, and learn about its history as well as other aspects of history. Plus you get some wonderful characters to explore and learn about.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received through Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

This is the 5th and final book from the Revolutionary Faith series.

It is entitled Wait for Me which seems fitting because I kept waiting for Gray to get to the story. Like the other books from the series this book dragged. Elizabeth and Louis are living in South Carolina during the Revolutionary War which is coming to an end. Yet it isn't coming to end fast enough in South Carolina. The British are in control of South Carolina and things aren't going well for the Patriots in Charleston including Elizabeth, Louis, and their kids. Elizabeth is pregnant with their third child during this ordeal.

The pace of the story is incredibly slow. Things are also very dull in Charleston which is hard to believe but sadly enough true. I love historical fiction and with God thrown in it is normally a great read. Not so with this series.

The good parts are the constant praying by the main characters. They clearly rely on God which is a lesson for all of us. I also enjoyed finding out that Gray based the main characters on her relatives who lived in Charleston during the Revolutionary War.

"Wait for Me " by Marguerite Martin Gray is book 5 in the "The Revolutionary Faith" Series. Again, I recommend reading the entire series in order to get the full story because each novel builds on the last. The reader can learn much about this time period even through the books are fiction. It is easy to see that the author really researched her material before writtng these books.
I really appreciate that they are clean romance as well. This novel clearly shows that God is with His people during times of war and other times, as faith is a big part of this novel as well as the other novels in this series.

I think these stories are so good to me as a reader because it shows real life and shows characters who face challenges and struggles, and whom the author shows they have doubts and fears and aren't afraid to voice them but through it all they cling to their faith and believe that God will sustain them!

I was given a contemporary copy by the author and Celebrate Lit and these are my own opinions.

Wait for Me is an aptly titled book set in the Revolutionary War in South Carolina. The story includes lively, likable characters! Passionate about their liberty and freedom, family and friends, they are willing to risk everything for each other and their new country. I liked the setting of the book on the ocean with ships. The bustling city adds to the background leading up to the invasion of the British. I especially enjoyed the role women played as patriots literally in plain sight. The deep faith exhibited in this story added depth and inspiration. From the book: “I’m waiting, God, for Your timing. Remember us as we face the enemy daily. Unblind my eyes so that I can see my enemy and protect my family. Amen.
But they that wait upon the Lord, Isaiah says, shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

This book was provided through Celebrate Lit and the author for me to read. The opinions expressed are my own thoughts.

Wait for me, by Marguerite Martin Gray is the fifth book in the Revolutionary Faith Series. In this story we follow along with the Louis Lestarjette family and see how they deal with the various situations that surround the war. The fear they have of the soldiers, fear for their family's safety, and continuing with their daily lives.
This is a series that continues through with the story line and characters, so it should be read in order. This is the first book I have read and I did have a little trouble getting into the story. But after reading for a while I was able to follow along nicely. This is a well written story that gives a glimpse into what it may have been like to have lived during that time in our history. It is evident the author has done research to write this story. For anyone who enjoys reading stories based on our country's history, this would be a good series to read.

This book represents the last book in the Revolutionary faith series, and like the previous books in this series, it grabbed my attention. We continue learning about Elizabeth, Louis, their children, and their friends and family along with the war. I loved seeing how Marguerite Martin Gray approached Elizabeth and her family and friends dealt with George, her brother, who took the side of the British during the Revolutionary War.

I loved the mix of historical facts with day-to-day life in Charles Town during the war and the British occupation. My one issue with this book comes from the ending feeling rushed and abrupt compared to the other books. Perhaps because this was the last book, I wanted more. But I have to say the Epilogue helped ease some of those feelings. So if you enjoy historical Christian fiction, check out this book for yourself.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

This was a really good book. It is book 5 in a series and I've not read all the previous books and this can be read as a stand alone, but I think you would get more from it if you were to read the series in order. The family dynamics in this book were certainly well written.

The author has a love for this time period and has obviously spent a lot of time researching and knows it so well that she can convey it to us flawlessly. I kept wanting to read more and more to know what was going to happen next. God has us in His hands, no matter the turmoil around us and that's exactly what this book is about. Overall, really really good book.

Wait for Me is the fifth installment from the Revolutionary Faith series. Even though it is part of series, I believe it can be read as a stand alone. However, I think it would be best to read them in order. This one is so very good. It was fascinating to be transported back in time to eighteenth century Charles Town, South Carolina. I love the character of Elizabeth. She is such a brave and courageous woman. This story is one that is captivating from start to finish.

Wait for Me is getting a very well deserved five plus stars from me. I look forward to reading the other books in the Revolutionary Faith series. I highly recommend this one for readers who enjoy clean historical fiction and those during the Revolutionary War era.

I have really enjoyed reading about Charles Town and now would love to visit the city, since I have read several books recently that are set there and it has such a rich history.

This book is number 5 in the series, and while each book is about a different character, I would recommend reading the series in order to enjoy the whole scope of the series.

Louis and Elizabeth's story was beautifully written and shows some of the sacrifices that the early Americans had to go through in order to earn their freedom. I thought that the author did a wonderful job of bringing their story to life and adding all the historical facts to it. This is a wonderful work of historical fiction to pick up and enjoy!

This is the saga of the Lestarjette family continues in the Revolutionary War. Life became turbulent for Louis and Elizabeth when the British laid siege to Charles Town and, after the town’s surrender, imprisoned most of the Patriot men. Throughout the difficult days, Elizabeth is expecting their third child.

Elizabeth’s relationships with her female friends and family is so poignant. They rely on each other and on God to see them through. And she’s brave, venturing out to her cousin’s country home despite wandering Redcoats.

The culmination of this series means no more visits with Elizabeth, and that’s sad.

How do we prepare for the worst when the town is flourishing?

It’s 1977 and Charles Town, SC is flourishing with the battle for independence happening all around them. Is this the calm before the storm? Elizabeth, Louis and their family and friends continue to prepare but enjoy life as well. Babies are born, children continue to grow and they wait....

Surrender. Defeat. But alive with hope! The siege begins and the town is taken. However, ‘the liberty tree may have been cut down, but the roots of the tree are thriving in our hearts.’ This is the hope the town hangs onto. Spies, imprisonments, escapes and more. I have learned so much more about the Revolutionary War and how it affected one town, Charles Town. One has to wonder if we still have that root of the liberty tree in our hearts....

This ARC of Revolutionary Faith book Five was received through CelebrateLit. The impressions and comments given are my own and were in no way solicited.

Wait For Me is a treasure! I am thrilled with the journey of the Revolutionary Faith series. This final book closes the story perfectly. I felt like I was in Charles Town with them, being fired upon, saving food, preparing the children, making plans. The details of daily life made it feel so real. I could smell the food they prepared and feel the worry of the times. I adore the character development, and the honesty of troubles of life. It was a thrill to read! I will read this series again! Highly recommend!

Realistic characters who draw you into the story. It was obvious the author did extensive research. It really made the time period come to life for me and made me understand the struggles the American patriots faced in order to obtain freedom. Would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading this time period.

I am sorry this series is over. The author’s research and period details work together to help the reader feel they are actually a part of the seize of Charles Town during the Revolutionary War. Ms. Gray’s love of this time period shines through in her historical fiction, perhaps influenced by the fact the series is based on some of her ancestors.

Pretty good book. Started rather slow but it centered on one particular event during the Revolutionary War and told that story well. In the acknowledgments we found out that this family was the author’s own ancestors which made the entire book more interesting.

This is the fifth book in Marguerite Martin Gray’s Revolutionary Faith series, and mostly takes place in Charlestown, South Carolina. Our freedom is due to the patriots who fought for us during this time.

The godly characters are not only realistic, but flawed as we all yet they continued to trust God in the middle of the horrors of war.

Mrs. Gray does her historical research down to the most minute detail. I can't wait to see what other historical stories she has to tell us.
