You cannot perceive intentionally. It is not in your power. You can only stop perceiving. You can shut your eyes and stop seeing. You can shut your ears and stop hearing. You can block your nose and stop smelling. You have the power to stop perceiving, but not to start perceiving. Once you have your eyes, nose, ears, or sense organs unblocked, you perceive. Sensory perceiving is basic to all organisms. There is nothing great about being humans as far as power of perceiving is concerned because every creature has power to perceive. Some can only sense through touch and some can sense touch and smell but any creature however small and insignificant it might seem, have at least one form of sensing its surroundings. Perceiving is the basis of life. In absence of ability to perceive, there is no life. Being human means something extraordinary. It means to be able to perceive beyond any other form of life around us. It means to be able to perceive totally, completely. But we rarely do so. We can hardly do so. Not only it is not in our power to be able to perceive totally, but we are also so much occupied in our busy lives, that we are hardly aware of our surroundings or our lives. The only way to be able to perceive totally and therefore experience this universe in a way unimaginable in our present way of living, is to drop all those things that block our senses. Only when we unblock our channels, the perception can happen so completely that we will never ever go back to the dark dungeons of ignorance and unawareness. This book lists out all those blockages that prevent total perception.
