The poems in Brittney Corrigan's collection respond to stories in the news over the past several years. Many of the poems take on issues that are difficult to grapple with, including gun violence, suicide bombings, the current political state, climate change, and natural disasters. The collection is meant to be emotionally challenging but, ultimately, hopeful.
Brittney Corrigan is the author of the poetry collections Daughters, Breaking, Navigation, 40 Weeks and most recently, Solastalgia, a collection of poems about climate change, extinction, and the Anthropocene Age (JackLeg Press, 2023). Brittney was raised in Colorado and has lived in Portland, Oregon for more than three decades, where she is an alumna and employee of Reed College. Her recent debut short story collection, The Ghost Town Collectives, won the 2023 Osprey Award for Fiction from Middle Creek Publishing.
3.5 maybe. That is a lot of “What ifs” from current news stories. Some were fascinating follow ups to how things could have been different if…, some were too much but mainly because the real life events were just too much. You probably should steer clear if you’re feeling down, maybe try another time. LOVE THE COVER!!!
Received this after donating to Tupelo Press and I'm so glad I did! I know I will be coming back to this collection to read it again. Each poem is wonderful.
