A rousing conclusion to the final round of the tournament. Both teams leave everything on the floor in a game that seesaws back and forth to the very end. Very exciting.
QUE TOMO POR DEEEEEEOS. Tremendo.
Estoy segura.
Oh-ho-ho! The fifth and final set of the Miyagi Prefecture qualifier round finals is still blazing to a close. Karasuno and Shiratorizawa both refuse to yield, and the grueling play is starting to take a toll. With Tsukishima injured and off the court, things are looking grim for our intrepid heroes. Will exhaustion get the best of them?
Yow. The entire volume is centered on the final set. It is never ending. After a widening gap between the teams, Karasuno, through sheer force of will, manages to catch up and tie the game. Then the teams trade a point back and forth for what seems like FOREVER! I would have died. Seriously, I would have dropped over from the exertion. The guys keep slagging the ball back and forth over the net, capitalizing on mistakes, making mistakes of their own.
We learn a little about Coach Washijo. He’s a short guy, just as short as Hinata, and that held him back from playing the game he loves. There’s a flair of jealousy, when he vows that his team won’t lose to a player like him. While Hinata isn’t the most technical player, he is one of the most dedicated, and he refuses to let his physical limitations get in the way of his goal to be the best player he can be. Washijo’s distain for Hinata hit me wrong, and instead of his past making him sympathetic, I thought that it made him seem shallow. Maybe it was hard for him to own up to his own defeat, that he let himself be sidelined instead of forcing his way onto the court.
Now that the Finals are wrapped up, I wonder where the story is going to take us. I hope that we have some team building, and some conflict with incoming 1st years. I will miss the 3rd years as they move on with their lives after high school and volleyball.
*Reread on 9/30/2020* When the third years cry, I cry.
Also now that I've finished the series, quitting seems like the best decision for Tendo. Tendo wasn't as dedicated to volleyball as all the other boys that went pro. He just wants to have a good time and be Ushijima's best friend :')
*Original Review 10/5/2019* SO SO SO proud of my crows. Agh I'm nervously excited for the next volumes. And I'm super excited for season 4. I love these boys so much. (Also are we just going to brush over the fact that Tendo is quitting? Like idk I felt like we could've explored that more.)
Nothing beats that big adrenaline rush when they finally score the last point after pages and pages of a deuce. Then right after you jump for joy you want to lie on the floor and cry because the other team lost. Damn mood swings.
- “Don’t look down!! Volleyball is a sport where you always look up!!” YES COACH!!!!!! - TSUKKI IS BACK!!!!!!🎉🎉🎉 - AAAAA TSUKKI!!!!! He wants to keep fighting till the end!!! - Oh my god!!! I forgot Iwaoi showed up to watch this match!!!!!!💗 - Oikawa is so pretty!!! I love looking at him in his glasses!!!🤓🤭💗 - Ushijima smiling!!!!!🥹🥹🥹 - If there’s one thing Furudate is going to do, it’s make me like characters on the other team, even when I initially start off disliking them - Forget about Ushijima having beef with Hinata, let’s talk about the Shiratorizawa head coach having beef with Hinata! This man is 71 and his beefing with a 15-year-old because he is also short and faced adversity for being short when he played volleyball as a kid. So now he’s going to do everything in his power to deny Hinata the opportunities that he was also denied, ESPECIALLY in the Ball Boy arc but we’re not there yet. Anyway, what a fucking loser! Get over yourself old man! - THE SCENE WHERE USHIJIMA HAS TSUKKI AND HINATA PINNED BUT THE UPPERCLASSMEN HELP RAISE HIM UP TO HELP THEM!!! THE SYMBOLISM!!!!!! THEY CAN'T BEAT HIM ALONE BUT THEY CAN TOGETHER😭😭😭💗💗💗 - FUCK YES!!!!! GO KARASUNO🎉🎉🎉 - EVERYONE HUGGING AND CRYING IN CELEBRATION💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗 - “Shorty pie is the kind of hitter that makes a setter want to put the ball up for him. It’s no wonder he drags Tobio around by the nose.” HELLO????🏳️🌈 - Not Shiratorizawa crying😭😭😭 - “Hinata Shoyo, Kageyama Tobio, from the barren concrete. Next time…I will win.”, “I swear I’ll make it to the same level as you!!”, “I swear I’ll make you say I’m better than Oikawa-san!” AAAAAAAAAAAAA THE RIVALRY IS SO GOOD!!! - Yamaguchi comforting Tsukki💗💗💗 - Ushijima telling Goshiki “I leave the team to you.”😭😭😭💗💗💗 - Oh my god!! Itachiyama is at the Tokyo tournament!!!! - I’m obsessed with Akaashi catching Bokuto’s jacket😂😂💗💗 - Yamaguchi is so sweet in the bonus story💗

Haikyu 21 concludes the Shiratorizawa vs Karasuno match we have been watching in the last few volumes. I originally was planning on giving this book 4/4.5 stars due to the fact that the majority of the book (78%) was based around only half a set, which I thought could be shortened, but so much important stuff happens between the lines which leads it to be so long, so ended up caving and giving it a 5 stars. I cannot wait for volume 22. Bring on the Tokyo guys and my favourite team of the Haikyu universe - Fukurodani!
KARASUNOOOO BORDEL QUEL MATCH JAI ÉTÉ TELLEMENT PRISE DEDANS TU M’ÉTONNES QUE J’AI MIS UN MOIS À ME REMETTRE DE L’ANIME S’ILS GAGNENT LES NATIONALES JE VAIS PLEURER PENDANT UNE SEMAINE
i will forever cheer for karasuno but damn, shiratorizawa's cheers are so addictive. i will never not cheer alongside the >>u-shi-ji-ma! (clap clap) ushijima! (clap clap) ushijima!<<
I'm feeling so many feels right now because that was the ultimate mashup to conclude this match! I honestly whooped and cheered and felt I was watching a REAL game because I was so invested! Absolutely incredible and mind-blowing!
While I know in previous volumes, Tsukki has really shined, but this…this is where he GLOWED. In many ways I feel this was a favorite volume for me because of seeing Tsukki in the zone was just awesome. Seeing him question why he wanted to fight until the end and how he's "not Hinata" just really spoke to me. I also think I got a very much real sense just how much pain he was with that dislocated finger. (Also Hinata's brutal honesty with Tsukki got me. LOL!)
I've made it known I'm not an Ushijima fan but hats off to Furudate because I honestly feel this is where I felt the awe of how incredible a player he is. The way he encouraged Goshiki during a pivotal scene when he (Goshiki) was nervous and the end (which makes me cry every time, even in the anime), I can't help but feel respect for him. Plus, when he smiled, GAH! Talk about SO soft!
I loved this volume so much! I loved how Ukai knew the exact encouragement his team needed and spoke it right then and there. I loved seeing the powerful emotion the third years reflected. I love seeing Ushijima called Hinata and Kageyama by there full names FOLLOWED by saying they were from the barren concrete (especially in light of what happened before that). I loved seeing Noya encourage his teammates by saying he has their backs, but even if it feels like their legs are going to fall off, to keep fighting the aerial battle.
I think in the end, I just was really surprised by how moved my heart was for the Shiratorizawa team. My heart feels heavy for them.
I'll probably call it a night and soak this volume in because it has been the journey in this match. (A very good journey if I might add!) The art just continues to go above and beyond and absolutely love it!
I'm so tired. The game was intense, like I expected it would be. This manga has made me cry, laugh, scream and pull out my hair in anger. It deserves all the stars in the sky and thank you, Furudate, for gracing this world with such an amazing manga with beautiful characters. I'm emotionally too invested and will never let go of my passion and abundant love for Haikyuu.
That's the thing... With other mangas/animes, I have a certain duo or set of persons who I like. But here, I love everyone equally. This isn't just about Hinata or Kageyama. This manga consists of stories of all people and you become friends with them. Truly and absolutely beautiful.
"You don't win alone. That's just how it is."
"Because people don't have wings, we look for ways to fly"
One of my favorite and the most powerful quote in this series -
everyone THAT panel of goshiki???? “none sir” more like yessir SHEESH
confirmed bokuto and yamaguchi joined forces as tsukki’s sleep paralysis demons they haunt him nightly and vigorously with their full-frontal airhead antics
H A P P I N E S S for my crowbabies but also the BIGSADS at ushi’s smile & shiratoribabies crying & tendou’s farewell my paradise DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON how volleyball was what taught him self-acceptance, fellowship & what his own very important happiness felt like and now he’s letting it all go LOL brb i’m bawling
also the art here is honestly out of this world the shadows are done SO WELL and make the scenes SO HIGH-STAKES & DRAMATIC + furudate is so freaking good at manipulating shading to show intense movement this goes for all the volumes & i do not know why i have not mentioned it until now AAAAAAA
All thanks to Yamaguchi, injured Tsukishima was able to come back in the last few rallies of the final set. Even though both teams were running on fumes, each player contributed in their own way to the best of their abilities. With Shiratorizawa's elimination, Karasuno advances to the National Spring High School Boys' Volleyball Tournament. Meanwhile, Tokyo Qualifier Tournament is underway in which Nekoma will face another powerhouse 'Fukorodani'.
”hinata shoyo, and kageyama tobio, the ones who sprouted from the concrete.”
HAPPINESS. ++ tendou’s “farewell, our paradise.” then goshiki cryint when ushijima said “i’m counting on you.” yeah. tsukki being MVP yupppp tadashi telling tsukki to not regret anything bc they’re going to NATIONALS ahhhhhh. hitoka is also so cute PUTS HER IN MY POCKET?
I LOVE THEM SO MUCH IM SICK. very excited for nekoma n fukurodani’s match in the next chapter 😏
I’ve been suuuuuuuper spotty about checking things in here lately; obviously I have read a lot of these though, and will continue to do so! Hinata, Kageyama, Tanaka and Tsukishima are just too entertaining to quit! Also, I am learning waaaay more about volleyball than I ever really had a desire to know, ha!
“There is no reason to believe there will be no further advancement or development in the future.”
4.25 stars - I actually like Ushijima a lot despite his robotic nature TvT it was sweet how he spoke to each member of the team after their loss. And seeing Karasuno’s celebration of their victory was great. Oikawa and Iwazumi’s short appearances were fun too
It's so surreal to think I'm now past the three seasons of the anime now. I'm looking forward to seeing what's next because I can never have too much of this series in my life and this match was dope.
1. Agree with Coach, TSUKKI was the real MVP this game!!!!!!! 2. Ushijima feels so much more alive in the manga, this boy gives personality and I did not get any of that in the anime!!!!!!!! 3. NISHINOYAS DOUBLE RECEIVE!!!!!!! 4. I luv tendo 👉🏻👈🏻 5. This has been my favorite game so far
But that could be a lie, because the twins are next 🤭
such a good ending for the game ugghh and then the shiratorizawa third years saying goodbye at the end my heart.. why did i kinda fall for this team my heart breaks for them :c 3
