Chase
What do you do when the person you want deserves better than you can give?
Wanting my stepsister was never part of the plan, but going home for my dad's funeral changes everything between us.
I barely knew the girl she was, but I'm fully on board with finding out the woman she's become.
I want to be her first, her last and her everything, but I can’t and it’s ridiculously unfair of me to want her like this when I have nothing to give her.
There is no future for us and no way I can take her virginity when I’m leaving her to go back on tour.

Cassie
When Chase comes back into my life I let him in and want to take things further with him, but the problem is he's my stepbrother.
I always want what I can't have and this time is no exception, but can I trust him with my heart, with my soul or will his fire ruin us both?
Falling for my stepbrother wasn't part of my plan, but how do I cope when all I want to do is experience everything with him?

This story had me hooked and gripped to my chair from start to finish. This book shows that Love has no rules and when you fall in love you really can’t help who you love.

I love a step-siblings romance as it straddles the line between a ‘normal’ relationship and a taboo relationship and for this alone I enjoy reading how the author can stray in this setting. Stacy McWilliams has written this trope so well that I adored each character and loved reading their ‘forbidden’ romance.

The character’s journey throughout the book had some awesome twists that I was fully engaged with them and the story. I on occasions felt myself tearing up and as the story ended I left a sense of completion.

For me this is a fantastic read if your looking to dip your toe into reading this troupe. It has the perfect blend of chemistry, drama, angst and love.

Affection and affliction
This book is a forbidden romance between Chase and Cassie, who are step-siblings. Chase receives a call from an unknown number at four in the morning, and understandably answers it gruffly. When the caller identifies herself as Cassie, he’s alarmed to hear from his step-sister in the middle of the night. They barely know each other, so when she tells him that his father Harvey has collapsed at work and asks him to come home, he is worried and surprised.
Chase and his father haven’t had the best of relationships since he dropped out of college to pursue a professional music career. But he heads home anyway, and is devastated to find out his father died while he was in transit. It was absolutely heart-breaking! He had so many regrets and would never get the opportunity to say the things he wanted to say. And a relationship of mutual support, comfort and secret lust and love begins between Chase and Cassie.
This book had me on a ridiculously emotional roller-coaster! I laughed, cried (so much), sighed, smirked, and swore! My feelings really were all over the place! I couldn’t put the book down, because I just HAD to know what was going to happen next. There was so much angst, confusion, miscommunication, support, interference, loss, deceit, hurt, secrecy, disappointment, betrayal, forgiveness, love, lust and passion. They tested boundaries and hurt (including each other) so much, yet felt so deeply for each other too. They were a volatile pairing, in both a positive and negative sense. I could barely keep up, but that’s why I found the book so intriguing and enthralling!
It was one of the best books I’ve read in a while! I was just disappointed that their story ended. But the ending was serendipitous. I could actually see this as a telemovie, and I know I’d enjoy watching it. I give this book five forbidden stars.

Stacy McWilliams is back with another addictive story that you can lose yourself in and forget about the real world around you! Once you start the first page, you won't be able to put your Kindle down, so make sure you've got snacks and drinks beside you ready. Cassie and Chase's story is packed with drama, angst, passion, love and heartache, but I wouldn't expect anything less from this author. Whilst I went into Losing Step knowing it was a standalone, I really didn't think this couple would get themselves sorted in time for the book to end and was preparing for a cliffhanger, but it thankfully didn't come.

I know some reviewers were frustrated with the on and off status between Cassie and Chase, but I really do think Chase didn't consider himself good enough for his step sister and tried to do the right thing by pushing her away. As for Cassie, she was young and not ready for the feelings Chase opened up when he came back into her life. Then there's Chase's need to push and dominate Cassie, which both of them needed to process and face. Then throw into the mix the circumstances why this couple keep coming back into each other's lives and memories buried deep, their journey definitely wasn't going to be easy.

Stacy McWilliams quickly became one of my favourite authors and I excitedly keep updated with her new releases because I'm hooked and love how much she packs into her stories. If you're looking for something that keeps you on the edge of your seat because you don't know what will come next, then she's the author for you. If you're looking for something that leaves you hot under the collar, then she's also the author for you. Honestly, there's many reasons why she'll be the author for you and if you haven't already, download one of her books today.

I wanted to give it a 5 star since I love the darkness to it and the tear jerking drama and the toxicity but it’s explained down below and it’s not from the triggers or for the most part of the story.
Triggers- Domestic abuse with mentions of rape (not to the main characters or from the main characters). Cheating-well it’s up in the air for that subject.

Chase and Cassie are too toxic of a relationship, he’s the main reason why it’s toxic, she’s harmless and in lust with a rocker who’s her stepbrother she barely knows.
As Chase states, he gets what he wants not matter the consequences.
He pulls crap I would expect for a kid but he’s 25 for the first funeral, then he’s 30 for the second funeral and still pulls the same crap, runs away when things become too much and he don’t want to face Cassie or hurts her through words then walks away so he don’t have to face her to make her listen if things are put out of context.... all he does is HURT HER at every turn... hurt her one minute and the next he expects her to drop on all fours so he can have his way with the hate sex he ‘craves’.
As for the story in words, inconsistencies, I can’t get my mind straightened especially when the author is writing a sex scene and has it written where Cassie is on her Back with her butt up in the air and her looking down while Chase is mounting her..... it’s not a possible position unless Cassie is an owl that can turn her head 180 degrees... proof read.

Losing Step is my first book by Stacy McWilliams and it's my understanding that this is her first foray into darker waters. Overall, I really enjoyed this stepsibling love story. It wasn't particularly taboo since they didn't really grow up together nor were all that close. Cassie and Chase get thrown together for Chase's father's funeral. Cassie is only 18 and very inexperienced while Chase is the up and coming rock star with a huge female following. Sparks fly and these two can't resist the pull. There's a lot of push and pull, should we or shouldn't we and no that really means yes at that point. Chase splits the morning after the deed and they don't see each other for another 6 years when Cassie's mom dies. From then on it's an angst filled roller coaster ride. I was definitely here for the angst and the scorching hot chemistry. There's lots of drama, miscommunication and some interesting twists. For me, this wasn't really dark but rather very angsty, but everyone's tolerance is different and I can see how some of the content can be triggering. The only thing that somewhat bothered me throughout was the use of British slang in the book that's set in the USA and has American characters. It really wasn't a huge issue, but did stand out to me. I think this one is a definite must for all lovers of angst with lots of steam.

An Angsty, Explosive Rollercoaster Romance with a Rebellious Rockstar
In “Losing Step” by Stacy McWilliams, we are brought along on a couple’s journey as they try to navigate an unconventional (and a bit frowned-upon in society) connection toward their HEA. After eight years of estrangement, rockstar Chase is summoned home when his father is hospitalized, and he is not only faced with the what-ifs and regrets that often come at a time like this, but also with an intense mutual attraction with his stepsister, Cassie, who until now has been a virtual stranger to him. Chase is the quintessential rich, bad boy musician – cocky, insanely handsome and sexy, talented, and an extremely tortured soul. Cassie is young, beautiful, sweet, and completely and inexplicably drawn to Chase from the moment she greets him at the airport. The author weaves the angst, the outrageous chemistry, and the passion throughout the story in such a way that the reader is completely sucked in. And let me tell you, this read takes investment. Your insides will be twisted right along with the characters as you experience their highs and lows, their electricity when together and the torture when they are apart. It is one heck of a ride that will leave you spent. Have your tissues ready for this one…maybe a glass of wine too!

Wow, such an amazing story, it had me on a roller-coaster of emotions, from wanting to throttle Chase but then just hold him and soothe him. Same with Cassie I wanted to slap her and say look what's in front of you but then hug her tight and tell her everything is going to be alright.

Love has no guidelines, you can't help who you love. We all love a celebrity or two, but when the celebrity is 'related' that's a whole lot of forbidden and crazy shit. But the heart wants what the heart wants. Cassie is such a sweet woman, her and Chase go through terrible loses of a parent, which brings them closer or too close but will they give into the forbidden or go their separate ways, but is that all that can be thrown their way and could they survive it.

Highly recommend this book and the amazing author, can't wait for her next book.

Stacy has done it again!!
For me Stacy is the queen of emotional books that really make you feel like you've been on a roller coaster and this was no exception! I'm glad to see that she has started to venture into darker storylines with a little more suspense and dub-con scenes. It really worked with the overall plot, especially Chases controlling and dominant personality!!
Chase and Cassies story was full of so much angst and at times I really wanted to bash their heads together in the hope they would just admit their feelings and sort it out....I'm glad they finally got their HEA!

This is certainly a little darker than previous books, but so well written and full of so much emotion, it is just impossible to not get invested with these characters! I loved it!!

I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.

This book is simply perfect!!!
Chase and Cassandra, are half-siblings and are well-built characters. Chase leaves home as his father did not support his passion, cutting off all communications with him. Years later, Cass calls Chase, who's now an international rock star who in tourne, to inform him that his father is dying. He returns home and this is where their attraction explodes. I was shocked when turning the page I was catapulted to 5 years after their meeting. Stacy has been able to develop well the past and the past of both, making me live their emotions through words. The feelings, the strength of their attraction we can feel it too, and although it is forbidden, basically being a stepbrother means nothing, it is not a real blood bond. And you know the heart is not commanded. Add in a bitchy, possessive, jealous ex and a fantastic twist, and this book will leave you speechless.

This book really left me speechless, it’s filled with so much emotions, trials and tribulations. Life is filled with so much obstacles, but when you add in the forbidden, taboo it just makes it that much more tempting or in Chase’s case rewarding. I loved how protective he was towards Cassie and would do everything to keep her safe and loved her unconditionally. As for Cassie she truly is innocent, pure, strong, stubborn, intelligent and has the heart of gold when it comes to Chase. I have to say that I love how Chase is truly Cassie’s knight in shining armor. He has his faults, but it all leads to home and that is where Cassie and him will always be one. Most of all I loved that they both had that heart to heart and finally fought for they right to be one in public.

I haven’t written many reviews but here it goes

Really didn’t feel like there was much plot or much character development. All it took to get Chase hot for Cassie was a couple Facebook images and a few glances. Got old that Cassie couldn’t deal with anything in any other way than having sex with Chase. Also, have a real problem when the male pushes the female to endure and just take whatever sexual advance and then says “well you didn’t really mean no” At one point Cassie questions if it was rape or not because she said “no” but still wanted him...the answer would be yes, that is rape! If someone says no or stop and the other party doesn’t...that is rape! And don’t get me wrong, I can read a book that has triggers, but when you skirt around the topic and put that kind of message out there, I don’t agree.

Just wasn’t for me.

I have to say this is this authors best book I've read to date. Losing step is a step sibling relationship. Both siblings have had a hard time of it, but together they feel alive. I won't say that I liked Chase, he didn't know what the meaning of the word no was several times and it just turned me off his character, however he did - in the end - do what was right by Cassie.
I would have liked less of the back and forth, love hate scenes and more about what happened to the father in the end, how Cassie and her real siblings come togetherx because it ended without much detail about that.
However, all in all, it was an interesting read that kept my interest throughout.

This book will take you on an emotional journey of ups and downs. Just when you think things are going to start coming together for them they’re hit with something else.

What it’s about- Absentee rock star step brother comes home after finding out his father is sick. Gets reacquainted with his step sister🔥🔥🔥. But he doesn’t want to ruin her life so he leaves. Their separation is painful and their reunion even more so. But their connection is still just as intense.

Taboo relationship and dubcon. So if not your thing turn away now😉

I loved this book and could not put it down till I was done reading. It keeps you guessing on what could possibly happen next to them and gets you emotionally invested in the characters. I would definitely recommend this book!

Losing Step by Stacy McWilliams is a great and quick standalone read that all readers will love. The book follows themes of romance, forbidden romance, dark love and alpha males. This book follows the forbidden relationship between step-siblings Chase and Cassie. There romantic chemistry has been spanning years and is off the charts throughout the book. This book is great as it explore the forbidden side of love and the push and pull many experience throughout relationships. This book explores some highs and lows and may have you laughing and quietly sobbing at the same time. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and highly recommend.

As much as I enjoyed all the hot scenes written on this book, I hate to admit that part of me wanted to give up and mark this book DNF. I managed to finish the book though. (YAAAAY!!! Give me a spank, Chase!) I don't know what went wrong. I loved the first part of the book prior to the time skip. But after the "five years later", I wasn't enjoying it anymore. I want to drop it after the on/off relationship between Casey and Chase. In fact I hate Casey. For a protagonist, I find her weak. She's inconsistent, whiny and annoying after the time skip. I liked Chase's character development though. And I think he's better if he's with me. Lol. Gonna give this book 3 stars. And 5 exploding stars for Chase's hotness.

Cassie has a time of it in this book. She and Chase are immediately drawn together, but he goes beyond hot and cold and all she can do is react. He is very hurtful over and over, as are people around him, while Cassie suffers extreme losses. Obviously he does not cope well with everything going on, some of it with good reason. It is just very sad. I wish it included more of her family reconnection at the end. It was not an easy book to read through, full of hurt and loss, but it is very good. There are some minor issues with some proofreading and vocabulary, but nothing terrible.

To call Chase and Cassie story just a "step-sibling" romance is unfair to them. It's so much more.

It's got that forbidden taste but these characters become so much more to me. I understood their hurts but that don't mean I didn't scream at them, push them away (temporarily) and then want to hug them. They made me feel for them and see them as more than names in a book.

A romance that makes a rollercoaster look easy. These two have hit the wall a time or two. Can they make all that's thrown at them work in their favor? I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review.

First off, hotness overload!! The hottest and sexiest forbidden romance I've read this year. Wow! I read this book in one sitting, it was that good. But there was so much more to this story than a sometimes cruel H, and feisty h who have off the charts chemistry and intense sexy times. This is a story of connecting through tragedy and misunderstandings, through dark times, and despair, and having the ability to love despite that. Just when you think you know how things are going to pan out, the author slaps in a twist that has you reeling. An absolutely angsty must read!

The characters are well developed with a lot of emotional baggage. Neither character knows how to deal with the pain or the strong emotions that they feel for each other. They pull each other close but then push them away. You want to smack some sense in them and then the next instance you want to comfort them. It is a well written story of two step siblings who come together to deal with a family tragedy. You will be riveted by the story of two unlikely people coming together despite all the odds.

Chase can’t make up his mind what he wants as one minute he’s running after Cassie and the next he’s pushing her away. Cassie’s in a constant tug of war as she wrestles her emotions over Chase. Can these two finally work out their differences to make a relationship work or will their past finally tear them apart?

I found it difficult to fall in love with the Hero. As he kept hurting her and consent was questionable.
Made me think alot like Isolation by Drethi Anis.
Although he was Spicy as hell and made sure heroine was taken care off. Think he was fighting lot's of demons.
Overall I'm happy they got their happy ending.

Chase and Cassie's story is a step sibling / rockstar romance and comes with huge amounts of drama to match the troupe. With the unexpected at times and lots of angst to add you're not sure what you are going to read on the next page.

Can Chase and Cassie's chemistry make up for his misgivings or has he pushed things too far?

Whew this story was beyond awful. Uhh no means NO. The H is a rapist. She said no many times but no meant yes to him. h eventually giving in to her body’s response doesn’t make it ok.

h had no self respect and was annoying asf. She was weak and cried every other page. Seriously tstl.

Save yourselves the aggravation and a couple of brain cells and skip this trash of a story.

Great taboo step siblings romance. I loved the angst and tension between chase and cassie but at times I thought it was too much. Their relationship was difficult already and the things he said he had to say one too many times, amd the way he treated her broke me.

Losing Step is a story about brother and step sister that isn't only a will they won't they, but also a should they shouldn't they. This follows the emotional roller coaster lives of Chase and his step sister Cassie through the ups and downs of several years. It is a long book that's fairly fast burn, with great twists along the way.
