The Winter Prince's heart is freezing solid, and only an ancient dagger and an antiques dealer with a Viking temper will be able to save him...
This is the second book in a new fated mates series, 'Wrath of the Fae' about cursed fae princes and the women destined to save them.
Bayn, the Winter Prince, knows that it's only a matter of time before humans break the treaty with the fae. When they do, he's going to plunge the world into a new ice age. That is if his curse doesn't kill him first, and his brother's irritating new mate isn't going to let that happen without a fight. Elise has found a lead on an ancient dagger once owned by Odin, a weapon that could stop ice from freezing Bayn's heart, and she knows just the person to help him find it.
Freya has had enough of pushy men in her life. She's worked hard to get away from her terrible ex-boyfriend, and is doing her best to keep her antiques store afloat. When her cousin Elise said she was sending her a client, Freya had no idea she meant the sexiest, bossiest fae she could imagine.
Reluctantly, Freya agrees to work with Bayn, and soon finds that there's more to the surly fae than meets the eye. They are going to have to keep their hot tempers and burning chemistry in check as they uncover someone selling fae and elves as well as artifacts. Only as a team do they have any hope of surviving the people who are determined to add Bayn to their twisted collections.
Alessa Thorn believes that all monsters and villains deserve their happy endings. She prefers her clothes black, eyeliner winged and books full of hot romance. She thinks heroes are boring, so her first series 'The Court of the Underworld' centers around dark gods, monsters and villains from her favorite Greek Myths.
I liked book 2 as much as book 1. I loved the Oslo wintery setting so much. I also loved the heavy Norse mythology references. Although this series pretty predictable, they are still so entertaining.
I liked the first one better. The stories in this series about our fae princes are rather short-ish, they find a mate and that's, kind of the plot but the resolution in this one concerning the bad guys was too swift for my taste. I liked the new supporting characters and the old ones that appeared in few scenes.
3rd time reading this and it’s still great. Actually gave it an extra star this time, because I adore the combination of Norse myth, and elves in this one!
After finally meeting Arne Steelsinger, I can’t wait for Elf Shot to be released!
Even though I didn't enjoy the romance as much as the first book, I still had so much fun reading Heart of the Winter Prince. I liked that they had to work together and it was the prince who was the "captive" this time! These books are so fun and addictive. Now I want to read Killian's book!!
I really enjoyed seeing Bayn and Freya journey. They definitely had an easier time than Kian and Elise did. I liked seeing the expanded characters and world. I especially want more of Torsten, Arne, Von and the club Ritual. I absolutely love the covers for this series and cannot wait for Killian and Bron's story in Wings of the Night Prince.
I really do love the style of writing in this series, dark, but lighthearted at the same time. Plenty of adventure, and humour. The characters are both sassy and lovable. It’s like a crossover Indiana Jones meets the Fae.😂 The type of stories where you can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.
The second entry in Alessa Thorn's Wrath of the Fae series, Heart of the Winter Prince delivers all of the passion and adventure that Blood Prince gave us, but without as much angst or struggle between our two mains. That doesn't necessarily mean that Bayn and Freya have it easy - they've got plenty to grapple with as their relationship blossoms and burns... from Bayn's curse to a secret magical creature trafficking ring, to Freya's psychotic ex... Winter Prince has the same fast pace awesomeness as its predecessor, and the passion and chemistry between Freya and Bayn burns hot.
I love these two together.
There's just something about a brooding MMC that hates everyone but the FMC (Bayn has it so bad for Freya, it is a delight to witness), and an FMC that is that perfect balance of strength and vulnerability. Freya has the temper of a Viking and the ferocity of a Valkyrie, which makes her Bayn's perfect match in more ways than one.
Freya unleashed, during the climax shortly after she and Bayn accept the mating bond, never fails to have me cheering our girl on as she razes her enemies to the ground.
Another solid entry in the Wrath of the Fae series and a quick, fun read! I absolutely love this series!
Freys is an antiques dealer in Norway and is sent a new client, the winter prince, to help him find a dagger. He doesn’t know that she is Elise’s cousin and she doesn’t know that he isn’t an ordinary Fae. This story is fast paced and filled with innuendo and a few spicy scenes. It dealt heavily with past abuse and trauma. The two main characters fit together pretty well, but I would have preferred a softer touch for this particular prince.
Loved this book just as much as the first. If you love a spicy fantasy about the fae then you need these books in your life. Again, I’m left bereft without Freya and Bayn in my life - what am I gonna read next 🙈
4 Stars: Better Than the First Disclaimer: Please remember that these are my opinions and if you feel differently, that’s okay. Thanks!
Notes: POV = 3rd Person Characters: I actually liked Bayn (MMC) and Freya (FMC) more than the MC’s in the first book (Kiss of the Blood Prince)! Bayn is funny and sweet, I got a little insecure vibe from him too which endeared him to me. Freya was simple and nice, I liked the relationships she had with other people (like Von) and how established she was as a person. We got to see more of her life, and I feel like she was more rounded as a character. I’m also biassed because she seemed to have more mental fortitude than Elise while still being realistic, which is something I appreciate in a FMC.
Plot/Story: The premise of this book has not changed in reference to the first. The Fae return to our world, bringing magic with them. The background and backstory was given to us in a similar way to the first, and I already said that I enjoyed the writing style. The story itself almost feels like there is more at stake. In the first book, Kian wanted to appease the vow of revenge he took. This plot was centred around unethical things being done to magical beings and stopping the humans doing those things. The timeline and events are very much things I think would happen if the premise happened in real life.
Romance: Bayn and Freya’s romance hit the mark for me where Elise and Kian missed. We see Fate at work again, but this time I think we get more genuine connection moments that lead me to believing in their love much more than I did in the first book.
General: I loved that we were in the world this time around. I liked following them around as they figured things out, met with other people, etc. I will always prefer when there is life and action outside of just romance. I loved Freya’s friends and the new characters we met along the way. In the first book, pretty much every character except for the MC’s and the MMC’s brothers were genuinely horrible people/beings and in this one we get some more depth.
Quotes I Really Like:
Special Mentions Killian stays my favourite character, he is hilarious. Secondly, Von (Freya’s friend) is awesome.
It’s been almost a year since I first devoured this book and I only now realize I never provided a review.
I can confidently say Heart of the Winter Prince is my favorite book in the original trilogy. Bayn and Freya DEFINED the grumpy/sunshine trope for me before I fully knew how much I loved it. Freya runs hot like the Viking blood running through her veins; she’s a piece of summer to Bayn’s frigid cold.
I think that’s why I love this book. Elise and Kian were Beauty and the Beast, setting the stage for this series with something dramatic and romantic. But the sequel is a blend of fire and ice; it’s more ‘touch her and you die’ with lots of ‘hate everyone but you.’ The Norse mythology blends so well with the pop culture nods to Harry Potter and Star Wars. And the antiques dealing and black market sales made me realize why Alessa’s other series, Mercenaries & Magic, appeals to me so much.
Speaking of other series, I never realize how much of the Fae Universe is foreshadowed here. The elves are introduced, along with their warrior Arne Steelsinger and his wolf shifter and berserker best friend, Torsten. The book also plants a seed of doubt regarding Arne’s parentage….Killian’s end of book cameo is the perfect preface for Wings of the Night Prince. And don’t even get me started on Alessa’s subtle mention of the infamous family of bounty hunters, the Ironwoods.
The Wrath of the Fae series is a testament to Alessa’s sheer brilliance and dedication to her craft. She’s reimagined what it means to write paranormal, fantasy romance. And I’ve never loved Norse mythology more than this. But Bayn and Freya’s story will ALWAYS feel like coming home. And I truly cannot wait to read it again and again.

Book two was another great quick read. I loved the storyline of this one more as it had mythology and Vikings in it. It was also set in Oslo, Norway and in the snow it had more of the fantasy vibe I have been missing. Not to mention the Fae Prince in this book has Winter magic soooo that’s always a big bonus.
I love mythology and this having Norse mythology in it made my Viking loving heart happy also the fact that they where hunting a Norse relic and stepped into darker seedier world that they weren’t expecting had me captive until the very end.
The female character Freya of Viking decent is a complete utter badass. She’s an antiques dealer and has some shady friends. She’s also even more take no shit than her cousin from the first book and she’s has no trouble putting Bayn in his place.
Bayn the Fae Winter Prince who’s been cursed with a slowly freezing heart is even hotter than his brother Kian. He’s also big, bad, beautiful, touch what belongs to him and die, cocky, sassy, deliciously Sinful but he also has magical tattoos, rocker vibes, has Winter magic which leaves snowflakes in his hair. I was practically drooling from his description alone.
The sexual attraction between these two is hot and the smut is hotter. They are constantly flirting even though they don’t get along when they first meet. And their banter is on point I loved their relationship from the start
We get a bit more of Killian in this book too and I’m still in love with him. I need his book now
A nice paranormal fantasy romance with a bad arse human heroine and cursed dangerous Faire prince. Banter, steam, smut, violence, and revenge. This book reference domestic abuse and focuses on two people overcoming their pasts to take a chance at a happy future. A good read, easy to come back to if you want a break. But it's not a read, so immersive you need to binge the whole thing 3.4 stars
Even though he was the executioner of the family, he was a much gentler person than book 1's prince. I liked his lady too. She didn't suffer fools and their banter was pretty fun.
I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about Bayn. How could he compete with Kian? This second book in the series has Elise sending Bayn to her course Freya in order to find a way to break his curse. She's an antiques dealer in Oslo. I loved the chemistry between them!!
The shining star of this book was definitely Freya! I loved her character, she is headstrong, but also vulnerable and I just really loved all of her different interests and her story. Bayn was interesting, but wasn't as icy and coldhearted as I thought he would be, which was a little sad, since their romance could have been dragged out a little longer.
I'd give this 3.5 stars. I didn't like it as much as the first one, but it was still an entertaining and fast read. If you want some quick and simple spice, then this is the book for you.
I've seen a lot of other reviews saying the first one was messy, but that was what I enjoyed most about it. I like me some ape shit, feral shenanigans. The resolution of the conflict in this one was pretty anti-climactic too. It was like five sentences then over.
Dear friends, when Alessa announced the surprise early release of this book, second in her faerie series, this reviewer pounced on the opportunity to read it ASAP. An excellent follow up to “Kiss of the Blood Prince”, “Kiss of the Winter Prince” follows the story of the youngest fae prince brother, Bayn, and his mate Freya.
The story has action and sizzle aplenty, and there’s never a dull moment. There’s also a continued emphasis on consent, as Bayn refuses to make a move on Freya until it’s clear that it’s what she wants, which is a trend this reviewer is delighted to see continue in books. Also, “Bayn” is just a great name.
While a great read, one definitely wonders what is happening with the author’s new direction. Her Olympus-centered series felt, in my opinion, to be a little more engaging. The characters felt more mature, rounded, and tinged with a sort of delicious darkness that this reviewer is compelled to love. Don’t get me wrong, I love the new books, but I would love to see more of the writing style from the other series come through in these books as well. In addition, there are some details that feel randomly thrown in, as though there is an attempt at connectivity between the series, but that attempt is not as clear as it could be. Those elements don’t detract from the overall story though, but they could easily be dropped.
Overall, a great read. If you like Leia Stone, Jaymin Eve, and C.N. Crawford, you’ll love these books!
Sizzle: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Bayn and Freya’s sauna scene is particularly intriguing. Also, Bayn is just a great name.
Ship factor: ⛴ I’ll ship. I do think that Bayn and Freya’s “enemies to lovers” felt a little forced. However, I think they are a great pairing!
Fails and warnings: 🚫 Trigger warning here, this book does contain elements of human (fae, in this case) trafficking. There’s also a fair amount of remembering an abusive relationship from Freya’s end. As far as fails go, I have none to note, which is a great thing about this author!
Ooooof. I don't know if I was out of my mind when I read the first installment or if there had been some actual editing done back then, but the writing was absolutely terrible in this one.
I was probably not entirely there when I read the first one because there is no way we went from something not incredible but fairly enjoyable to... this. Plot, characterization, dialogue... there would be too much to say so I will only mention what was, in the immensity of all that was wrong, no more than a minor detail but GOD in what kind of family do people seriously address each other as "big brother", "little sister" or even "cousin" ???! 😭 It kills me everytime. My mind kept going to the infamous Folgers' Christmas commercial... not for the "theme" *coughs heavily* mind you... but for the need for some writers to spend more time around real people and actually listen to them talking to each other.
[Edit: I just read some reviews mentioning that this one is apparently better than Kian and Elise's story and now I am too afraid to go back and have a look at it. I must have been on drugs that's the only possible explanation.]
"Ice Queen isn't an insult to someone with winter magic, it's an invitation to give you a crown."
Bayn is tired of Elise, his new sister, trying to save him. He has already accepted that his heart is going to freeze from the curse. But he will play her little game, if it'll get her to leave him alone. But that leads him straight to Freya, Elise's cousin. And she is everything he shouldn't want but does.
Freya's ex is horrible and she is doing everything she can to start over and stay away from trouble. So why is Elise sending her some? Maybe if she helps this Bayn dude, she can go back to normalcy.
Jokes on her. __________________________________________________
Bayn is literally the definition of "cold". It took me a while to warm up to him cause he could be such a jerk. The only person he isn't a jerk to is Freya. Which honestly, was kind of weird to me. I know why he easily gives into her but I expected them to have more of a "push and pull" situation. And they kind of did, don't get me wrong.
I will say I absolutely loved their "list" joke. . . . "I would've rocked your world. I do have that list you asked for, and it's a shame you won't find out what was on it. Especially number fifteen. You would've seen the face of God with that one. Now you're never going to know." . . . Freya is definitely a badass. She is not a 'sit and watch' kind of girl. I just didn't connect to her as much as I did Elise. There wasn't anything technically wrong. I just didn't love Bayn and Freya the same way as I loved Kian and Elise. The bedroom scenes didn't really compete for me either. I thought Bayn would be crazy intense or dominant and he wasn't bad. It just wasn't on the same level for me. A total preference, honestly.
Their story revolves around art and artifacts which I thought was kind of cool. I think the fact that Freya's career is about finding artifacts was unique and cool. It also complimented Elise's museum work and love of reading so they relationship was really fun and interesting.
Elise also becomes this big sister to everyone, guiding the boys on finding their mates and breaking their curses. Bayn is basically the temper tantrum thrower, the brother who just likes to stomp his feet. I wish you had some more tender moments between them, to show their relationship growth. But I also think that Bayn is just a cold person.
I'm kind of bummed that Elise hasn't developed any powers from being Kian's mate while Freya instantly gets some of Bayn's. This also isn't a spoiler really, if you've ready the first book, these next two books were all about finding their mates. So it's pretty much given immediately that Freya is for Bayn.
This book also introduces elves which is going to be super important in the next release, after God Touched. So if you are interested in the later books, this one is crucial in my opinion. I still wouldn't skip the first one but yeah, you could possibly get away with it. . . . "You know, I have fought in many wars, slayed monsters, faced horrors you can't even imagine. None of them frighten me like you do."
❤️Omg I LOVED THIS ONE. I really liked the first book in this series but Heart of the Winter Prince is my favorite so far. I cant WAIT to read the next one!
What I liked ❄️ The plot! Not just a spicy love story. But also definitely a spicy love story. With a PLOT. ❄️ the banter and flirting ❄️ THESE FMCs!!!! I ADORE these strong women who don’t cower to the fae males. Freya has been through some stuff but is still sassy and strong as ever. She is the type of person I WANT to be. ❄️ BAYN! Best Prince so far. A consent king with touch-her-and-I’ll-kill-you vibes ❄️ THE TROPES: “enemies” to lovers, fake dating, forced proximity, “she’s too good for me,” “touch her/him and die” ❄️ Mix of magic and modern technology that everyone has to get used to. ❄️ More references to IRL things (Frozen, HP, Star Wars)
Why not 5 stars? 🧊 Some of the dialogue is weird and forced 🧊 some obvious twists and predictable endings (these are less than 200 pages each, I don’t expect any more than I got and still really enjoyed it lol)
📖 Favorite Quotes - “I'm not letting you do this alone… I'm not going anywhere.” - “I want to know all of you, even the dark and ugly bits… I feel like you will be one of the most important people I ever meet. I'm not going to walk away from you without a fight, so don't make me.”
🛑 CW - mention of domestic abuse - Trafficking of magical creatures - mention of infanticide (only mentioned)
Heart of the winter prince is the second book in the fae universe, Bayn may have been the ice prince but i found him to be a Cinnamon Roll MMC ♡
Three brothers cursed for centuries, after his brother found his mate and ultimately broke his curse his new sister was determined to break her mates two brothers curse too. Elise spending most of her time in Kian's library believes she may have just found a way to break Bayn's curse. A dagger thought to have been able to kill ice monsters once owned by Odin, the only problem is Elise doesn't know where it is but her cousin Freya has a unique ability at sourcing lost objects and so she pushes Bayn her cousins way. Bayn is surprised by the beautiful viking beauty with her hot temper to match. They reluctantly pair up to find the dagger but their search uncovers something far more sinister involving Freya's scumbag ex in an underground trafficking ring selling off fae and elves as prized artifacts. Bayn and Freya work together to put an end to the trafficking ring whilst posing as a buyer and slave, playing up their chemistry to watchful eyes but somewhere along the way their act becomes very real as the magical runes begin lighting up their bodies every time they touch and suddenly perhaps there's another way to stop the winter Fae's heart from freezing over for good.
I wasn't as into the coupling in this one as I was in Kiss of the Blood Prince , but this was way better in terms of plot and overall pacing of the story. The action really draws you in. I liked that it had more of an urban fantasy type setting to tie in the events from Blood Prince , and the touches of norse mythology was a big win for me. As I said before, I wasn't as invested in the characters in this one. Both Bayn and Freya are very strong-willed characters that fit great together, but I just love the style of Blood Prince Kian so much more in the first one. I still loved their interactions though and shipped them together. I just prefer foresty type fae to ice king.
Actually, Bayn's characterization reminds me a lot of the ones in The Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J. R. Ward, so I would definitely recommend this if you're looking for a similar vibe to any of those books.
I enjoyed this second instalment more than the first. The stage has been set, the characters already introduced so although once again we are straight into the action, I felt that this plot line was less rushed and we were rewarded with more character dialogue and development.
Book two has Bayn the Winter Prince and Freya, an antiques collector, teaming up to find a dagger steeped in Norse mythology. To complicate things, she has a shitty ex-boyfriends who has made friends with the wrong people and now wants her back.
Freya was a great FMC and I enjoyed her determination and fire. She wasn't afraid to give Bayn a piece of her mind and the resulting dialogue was full of tension.
Again, this makes for a easy romantasy read for those who are after straightforward worldbuilding and a bit of action.
Narration: Dual character, third person POV
Tropes: - Fated mates - Forced proximity - Norse mythology - Touch her and die - Cursed Fae Prince
