Rate this book
This summer, they'll learn that home is where the heart is.

Somerset Lake is the perfect place for Trisha Langly and her son to start over. As the new manager for the Somerset Cottages, Trisha is instantly charmed by the property's elderly residents and her firecracker of a new boss, Vi Fletcher. But Trisha is less enchanted by Vi's protective grandson Jake. No matter how tempting she finds the handsome lawyer, Trisha knows that if Jake discovers the truth about her past, she'll lose the new life she's worked so hard to build.

Jake Fletcher left Somerset Lake after a tragic loss, but he's returning for the summer to care for his beloved grandmother, hoping Vi will sell the run-down cottages and finally slow down. There's just one problem: Trisha, Vi's new employee. She's smart, beautiful, and kind, but Jake's job is to protect his grandmother's interests, and his gut is telling him Trisha's hiding something that could jeopardize Vi's future. However, as they spend summer days renovating the property and bonding over their love for the town, Jake realizes that Trisha is a risk worth taking--if only she can trust him with her secrets . . . and her heart.

The Summer Cottage by Annie Rains is the first book in the new contemporary romance Somerset Lake series. As with most contemporary romance series each book in the Somerset Lake series will feature a new main couple so each could be read as a standalone if choosing to do so. The common theme in the series will be the setting of Somerset Lake, North Carolina which was a wonderful place with a small town feel.

Trisha Langly was looking for a fresh start for her and her son when she spotted the ad for a property manager in Somerset Lake. Trisha wanted nothing but a quiet place to start over after her ex-husband had been arrested for embezzling money from his clients. Both Trisha and her son were being treated as if they had been in on his crimes so when she was hired as the manager it was a lifesaver for them both.

Trisha’s new boss, Vi Fletcher, was a lovely elderly lady who had run the Somerset Cottages for years until her health became an issue and because of that her grandson, Jake, has come to try to convince Vi to sell. Shortly after Jake arrives though he finds himself pulled into working with Trisha to oversee renovations on the property and begins to see that maybe his parents and uncle don’t understand what the place means to Vi.

The Summer Cottage was a great opening to this new contemporary romance series. I really enjoyed the introduction to this new small town and it seemed to do a good job giving a glimpse into the whole area for the next books in the series. There was a lot going on with the characters lives that gave a bit of mystery of to whether all of it would come together in the end which made the pages turn even faster. Of course I also enjoyed all of the characters which of course if the most important part so this one came together all around for me and made a lovely summer read.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

Trisha Langly and her son Petey moved to Somerset Lake to get a fresh start. Trisha wanted to detach herself from her former town. A town that left her with only bad memories. At least at Somerset Lake, no one knew of her past and no one would bully her son, Petey.

There at Somerset Lake, Trisha is the property manager and a recent hire by Vi Fletcher, the owner of the Somerset Rental Cottages. In exchange for lodging and a small wage, Trisha has the responsibility for managing the rentals, maintenance, and cleanup of the property and cottages. A great deal until Vi’s grandson, Jake Fletcher makes an appearance. Jake, a lawyer by profession, is there to convince Vi to sell and move to Florida where her family can take care of her. After all, Vi’s properties are in disrepair and deep in the red.

Wary of her predicament, Trisha is guarded in her conduct and conversations with Jake. Because basically, Jake is there to take away any chance for Trisha to start anew. Somewhere in her heart, however, Trisha senses that Jake isn’t as ruthless as he seems. A stir in her chest leaves Trisha with wanting to see more of Jake and to make sense of what she’s feeling.

The Summer Cottage is the first novel in the Somerset Lake series. It has all the charm that a reader would want in a cozy romance — the lakeside setting, a nearby forest, cute beachfront cottages, and a town full of an array of characters.

Both the primary and secondary characters are developed well enough that the reader will literally be able to visualize each character and understand their motives and personalities. You’ll fall in love with some and loathe some others.

The plot is well executed and easily followed. There are enough twists, however, to keep the reader engaged through the entire novel.

Overall, The Summer Cottage is a delightful romance with inviting characters and an endearing storyline worthy of the top shelf in your TBR cart. Five sweet stars.

I received an early copy of the book from Forever (Grand Central Publishing.) The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.

Trisha needs a job and a place to live when her ex husband goes to jail. She winds up at the Somerset Cottages and Vi Fletcher hires her. She will be the property manager and will live in one of the cottages with her young son, Petey. Not long after, Vi’s grandson comes to town to see how she is doing since she had a stroke. Since Trisha and Jake met, they feel an attraction between them and to see where it goes, they decided to keep it as a secret. Secrets are not so easy to hide, what happens if it all comes out? THE SUMMER COTTAGE is all about Jake wanting his grandmother to sell the property and move down to Florida where the rest of her family is. But no one knows that just yet.

I really enjoyed the small town setting and the romance between Jake and Trisha. There is a great set of characters and I can’t wait to read more about the secondary characters as well. I think the pacing in the book is great and gave a good foundation for the next book in the series. I had a great time reading THE SUMMER COTTAGE. Annie Rains pulled me right in and hooked me from the very first page. She is now an auto buy author for me. Her characters feel very real. They aren’t perfect and while they all have flaws they are also very lovable. I now know I will devour everything this awesome author writes and do it all easily with a smile on my face and tears in my eyes.

THE SUMMER COTTAGE is a sweet novel about letting go of the past and making amends. Of rediscovering what its like to be in love again, friendships and of coming to terms with loss. In a week where I have started four or five books and given each up at between 30% and 50% I read THE SUMMER COTTAGE straight through because the story is an easy read with engaging characters, a fun plot, and a believable storyline. I look forward to reading more from Somerset Lake. Annie Rains writes snappy dialogue, fantastic female friendships, and laugh out loud moments to give the story the perfect balance of humor and “will somebody pass the dang tissues?! THE SUMMER COTTAGE is my first book by Annie Rains but it won’t be my last!

Over the past few years, romances have been my go to read when life is feeling stressful. There is just something so comforting about picking up a book and basically knowing ahead of time where you are going to end up. This book met my expectations as it was a light and easy read featuring two likable lead characters.

Trisha Langly and her young son need a fresh start so they move to Somerset Lake. She has been hired as the property manager of Somerset Cottages. The business isn't exactly turning a profit these days and the owner's grandson, Jake Fletcher, has come back to his hometown to convince his grandmother to sell the cottages. And then he meets Trisha, and well, he might rethink that plan.

Chemistry is my number one requirement for romance novels and Jake and Trisha had it in spades. They are just genuinely nice people and so it was easy to root for them. The backstory of Trisha's divorce was unique and added an interesting layer to the story. There are a few conflicts here and there in the story but I like how the author didn't go overboard and make it overly dramatic. This book was a pleasant read and I'm curious to find out which characters will be featured in future books in this series.

Thank you to Forever for providing me with an advance copy! All thoughts expressed are my honest opinion.

I was super bummed when the authors last series, Sweetwater Springs came to an end. BUT I was excited to hear about a new series set in a neighboring town too and was hoping for some crossover and it delivered! Some characters from her last book make an appearance here so it was an easy transition.

The first book in a series can be tricky with the introduction of so many characters AND a brand new setting, just a lot of information to get through in one book. It was handled so well here and now I have a new town and residents to obsess over. Trisha just moved to Somerset Lake with her son, Petey and took a job as a property manager at Sometset Cottages. Vic is the owner and Jake is her grandson and is back in town after a long hiatus. Sparks fly immediately between the two but they both have some issues they need to work through before anything romantic can work. I loved these two together and I always say that the author does such a great job developing these mature, adult romances with incredibly authentic characters. Add in a totally charming lakeside setting, secondary characters that I can’t wait to read more about in future books and a sweet little romance and I was all in. I’m excited about this series and can’t wait to see what happens next, small town romance fans will adore this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh how I love Annie Raines. The Summer Cottage did not disappoint.
.
Sweet, a lil Sexy and Summer. Yes, please.

Annie brings us to Somerset Lake for her brand new series. This charming lakeside town is the most wonderful place to get lost in for a day. Jake and Trisha and let’s be honest, Petey stole my heart. I can’t wait to visit with them in the next book. The lake backdrop is absolutely delightful. Add in the new characters and I’m ready to move in. For real....where can I put my bag ♥️.

Very cute summer beach read.
This is the first book in the Somerset Lake series.
Our characters are brought to life by the author and very realistic .
New beach cottage property manager Trisha is trying to start over in life with her son after her ex-husband is jailed. She loves the beachy area, her friendly spirited boss and the elderly citizens living in the cottages. And we do meet quite the character who enjoys sleeping on the beach.
She's not so keen on her boss'es grandson, a lawyer from a family of lawyers. What if he discovers her secret she's trying so hard to keep to herself. Even her son is not allowed to talk about this with anyone else.
She just wants a chance to start over for her and her son.
As she and Jake bond over cottage renovations and common interests she wants to let go and live again but can she trust again? Jake wants to pursue a relationship with his grandmother's property manager but he feels like she is holding a secret back from him.
Will they be able to find the mutual trust they need from each other to make this work out?
I am really looking forward to reading more books in this adorable series.

Trisha Langley was looking for a fresh start for her and her young son, Petey, after her ex-husband was imprisoned for embezzling funds from clients. Doesn’t matter that she didn’t know, Trisha still got the side-eye from some and her son was being bullied in school because of it. The ad for a live-in property manager on Somerset Lake couldn’t have come at a better time. No one knows her at Somerset Lake and she immediately bonds with Vi Fletcher, the owner. The cottages may be rundown, but they’re right on the gorgeous lake and Trisha looks forward to the work of sprucing up the cottages.

Somerset Lake holds a lot of bittersweet memories for Jake Fletcher. The family’s rental cottages have fallen into disrepair and his grandmother’s health makes it hard to handle on her own. Jake is sent by his family to convince Vi to sell the cottages and come live with them in Florida. However, when he arrives, he finds a new property manager. She’s beautiful, but he can tell there’s more to her story than she’s letting on.

Somerset Lake sounded magical, a perfect Summer getaway to me! I even loved the sound of the rundown cottages as they got a bit of fixing up. I love a place with character and charm, and the Somerset Cottages were brimming with both!

I was so happy that Trisha’s past wasn’t a long-held secret between Jake and her throughout the story. Instead, Trisha shares as Jake and her bond and become close, as two friends would. The attraction between them was immediate, but both Trisha and Jake were cautious and took it slow. I loved how sweet Jake was with Petey, taking him under his wing.

The Summer Cottage
was a mostly drama-free, sweet romance set in a picturesque small lake town. We’re introduced to an interesting cast of secondary characters, setting up the series for future installments. I can’t wait for Lucy’s second chance romance, The Christmas Village!

Summer Cottage. The first book in the Somerset Lake series, the story follows Trisha, a recently divorced single mother who, in seeking a fresh start after her ex’s very public incarceration, runs the cottages owned by Jake’s grandmother. Jake has returned to Somerset Lake to convince his grandmother to sell, and he is immediately suspicious of Trisha’s intentions. However, he quickly sees how wonderful she and her son are. Trisha and Jake are both fantastic protagonists, and they have the best slow-building romance! Jake is so understanding and patient, and I love how kind he is to Trisha and her son. And Trisha is wonderful. She’s a hard worker, a great mother, and a kind person. There’s so much chemistry between them, though Trisha tries to fight her feelings. Totally understandable after what she went through.

Jake’s grandmother is fabulous, and I love that she is often the voice of reason in the story. She is a wise woman. And Trisha’s new friends are a delight! I love how they make Trisha part of their friend group. I think they see the tentativeness in her and know she needs a support system. I can’t wait to learn more about each of them, as I think they’ll probably be the focus of the next books in the series.

This is a lovely romance that focuses a lot on relationships – friendships, family connections, community relationships, and romantic ones. I like that it shows how much Trisha and Jake are able to heal from the trauma in their pasts with the support of so many loyal and encouraging people in their lives. And the relationship Jake has with Trisha’s son is so sweet! If I weren’t already swooning over Jake, I would have swooned when I saw how wonderful he was with kids. Loved it!

Captivating, comforting, and quaint!

The Summer Cottage is a cosy, heartwarming tale that takes you into the life of the cautious, hardworking Trisha Langly as she juggles a relocation, a new job, an inquisitive son, an ex with a criminal past, and a handsome man who is entirely too hard to resist.

The writing is tender and sweet. The characters are kind, tentative, and supportive. And the plot is an irresistible mix of life, loss, love, family, friendship, special moments, trust, respect, community, and self-discovery.

As most of you know, I am a huge fan of Annie Rains and was sad to see the Sweetwater Springs series come to an end, but I am delighted to say this new Somerset Lake series has kicked off with a bang. The Summer Cottage has everything in it I hoped for, small-town charm, an emotive, romantic storyline, and characters new and old that you can’t help but be invested in and root for.

Thank you to Forever and Grand Central Publishing for providing me with a copy in an exchange for an honest review.

The Summer Cottage, by Annie Rains is a cozy, quick, “summery” romance set in the picturesque, friendly village of Somerset Lake. There are a new cast of characters with tie-ins to the author’s previous series set in Sweetwater Springs.

Tricia and her son are escaping the fallout from her husband’s poor choices and illegal actions that landed him in jail and financially hurt many others. Her hope is to keep her past a secret and start over in a new town. While I do think that Trisha’s behavior was extreme and overly cautious, and therefore off-putting to the kind-hearted neighbors of Somerset, I can also understand her concerns. I enjoyed the characters: her precocious son Petey, the sweet dog Bailey, the elderly Vi and the young ladies who befriended Tricia and welcomed her. I do think the romance was awfully quick, which was surprising given their cautionary natures, but it was still sweet.

My hesitation with this story is simply my own personal issues with these kinds of romances. While endearing and feel-good, they also seem completely predictable, and as such, I tend to lose interest. I think if you enjoy sweet Hallmark-type, serial romances, you’ll love this new series. If I could read it in one-sitting, it might work for me. I’d certainly love to move into this story and take up residence in a cottage on Somerset Lake. As a reader though, the story didn’t entirely hold my attention.

Trisha and her son Petey arrived in Somerset Lake as newcomers. They left behind her ex-husband who's now in jail for fraud and she hope that in keeping her past a secret, she can start a new life without people pointing their fingers at her and her son.

Jake is back in Somerset Lake, after his grandmother had a stroke and he thinks he's going to be helping her to sell her cottages rental. But Vi hired a property manager and she wants her and Jake to renovate the cottages during the summer.

Trisha and Jake acknowledge the chemistry between them but he's going back at the end of the summer and they don't want the complications that a relationship would bring so they both agree to stay friendly neighbors. Now if only their heart had received the memo😜.

With this new series, Annie Rains show us again the fun in small towns and their quirks (I'm talking about a special renter and even more special "cemetery" in this case). It's easy to see and understand Trisha dilemna about feeling bad for asking her son to not tell the truth about his father. Jake is such a fascinating man. I absolutely adored his curiosity in life. The fact he have a dog and a seaplane made him even more cool.

#1 in the Somerset Lake romance series

After a trauma explodes in her and her young son's lives, Trisha takes a low-key job as property manager of a small group of lakeside cottages. They keep themselves isolated and private, but somehow the small town sneaks up on them. When Jake (her boss's grandson) moves in next door, he continues to draw her out of her comfort zone. Plus he's starting to feel romantic about her and, despite herself, she also shares those feelings. Mostly this book is quiet and sweet and follows Trisha as she begins to make a life for herself here. And Jake starts to have second thoughts about his feelings about this town he grew up in and couldn't wait to leave years ago. The new "friends" felt intrusive to me at first, but Trisha grew up in a small town (Sweetwater Springs, from the previous series) and knew what to expect, eventually welcoming and recognizing their encouragement and support. This is a warm and loving book, which bodes well for a kind and warm series that I look forward to continuing sooner rather than later. Rains knows how to set the scene and create a happy place to build her stories around.

Thank you NetGalley, Annie Rains and for the Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the ARC of The Summer Cottage. This is my personal review.
Trisha had to change her life after divorcing her husband and she knew she had to move with her son Petey. They both needed to have a fresh start.
She moved them to Somerset Lake – found anew job as a manager at Somerset Cottages. It is a perfect job for her Petey to make a new life. The cottage is rent free, and the pay is enough to cover her expenses. The best part is she bonded with the Vi. The owner of the resort.
When Jake returns to Somerset Lake, he has been sent by the family to help persuade Vi to sell the resort. Jake did not expect to meet Trisha and when he did, he almost instantly felt a spark.
Trisha felt the same thing, but she tried to keep a distance because she did not not anyone to know why she had moved to Somerset.
The chemistry between Jake and Trisha was powerful and it made the story that made me cheer for them.
This is the first book in the new series Sunset Lake. I am excited to read more in this series.

Somerset Lake is the perfect place for Trisha Langly and her son to start over. As the new manager for the Somerset Cottages, Trisha is instantly charmed by the property's elderly residents and her firecracker of a new boss, Vi Fletcher.
Jake Fletcher left Somerset Lake after a tragic loss, but he's returning for the summer to care for his beloved grandmother, hoping Vi will sell the run-down cottages and finally slow down.
Trisha has a past that she doesn't want anyone to know about. So she takes this job to get away from everything and is enjoying what she does. Then Jake shows up and he is there on bequest of the family ,for Vi to sell the property. But her life is here and she doesn't want to leave. There is a group of women that want to be Trisha's friend but she keeps them at arm lengths.
Then the truth comes out of who Trisha is. So she decides maybe she just better leave.

Thanks to Forever for the book to review.

3.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley and Forever publishing for allowing me to read and review this book early. There was a lot about this book that annoyed me, but overall I enjoyed it and thought it was a sweet and charming story. This book is about Trisha and Jake. Trisha took her young son Petey and has moved to Somerset Lake after her husband went to jail for a crime involving money theft. She is a property manager for a set of cottages that are owned by an older lady named Vi. Vi's grandson Jake comes to the small town in an effort to convince his grandma to sell the cottages. Trisha and Jake meet and despite the fact that neither are looking for a relationship, they slowly start spending more and more time with each other.
Things I liked about this book:
The small town summer charm was fun. I loved seeing the weekend festivals and hearing about the quirky townspeople.
I loved how Jake was so good with Petey. It's always sweet to see a man befriend a child.
Things I didn't like about this book:
Trisha annoyed me. She was overly paranoid about people finding out who her ex husband was and made it into a HUGE secret deal and in my opinion it didn't need to be. In her old town, people had bullied her son because his dad went to jail and they had assumed she knew about his schemes so I get why she left, but I think the majority of people would see her as the victim that she is and wouldn't be so hard on her if she told them the actual story.
Petey is supposed to be 5ish and he acts MUCH older. Just a pet peeve.
There are quite a few cheesy lines.
Even though neither of them wanted a relationship, they were at the I love you stage in a matter of weeks-- Too quick for me.

Overall this was a cute read and I'm grateful I got to read it. I liked the introduction of all the other characters and will continue in the series.

The Summer Cottage
is the first book in a new series by Annie Rains. A sweet start to a small town romance series that will make you wish Somerset Lake was the place you called Home.

Trisha and her son Petey moved to Somerset Lake to start fresh and escape the judgement and the weight of her ex-husbands crimes. Jake has returned to Somerset Lake to convince his grandmother, Vi, to retire and sell the family cottages. They start with conflicting end games for the lakeside cottages. When he finds himself working with Trish to restore the cottages he slowly starts to remember why he loved his hometown. But will Trisha's past keep her from fully being able to trust and give away her heart again.

"Every time I look at you, my heart skips a beat."

This is a really sweet small town romance. Charming characters and a tight-knit community that I would love to be a part of. The town's book club was wonderful, and I hope all the ladies of the group end up getting their own books in the series. The romances between Jake and Trisha is a slow burn, low angst, low steam journey(I'm talking no more than kisses are exchanged) . Yet I didn't miss the intimacy scenes because the story is filled lots of experiences for them to connect on a more emotional level and build trust between them.

"With me is exactly where you always belong. No matter what."

Annie Rains writes one of my favorite small town series, Sweetwater Springs, and I have a feeling that Somerset Lake is going to be right alongside that one. She is my go to for a cozy romance and The Summer Cottage did not disappoint.

Do you know what Annie Rains does best? It's small-town romance. The Summer Cottage is book one in a new series, Somerset Lake. I am such a fan of the way Rains weaves a story and makes me feel hope and love. She is always a perfect choice for me when my beach bag needs to be filled.

Trisha, with a past to hide, and Jake, with a family to protect, make a fantastic pairing. Add in a bit of angst, a splash of drama, and the overall love and feel of a small town... well, it doesn't get much better.

I loved it!

This was a solid small-town Annie Rains' novel. I've enjoyed reading the Sweetwater Springs series, so I was excited to see this spinoff. I wasn't familiar with Trisha though since I haven't finished the Sweetwater Springs series yet (3 books left), but it's not necessary to read that series before beginning this one.

Trisha is a single mom raising her elementary-age son. Her ex-husband was a financial planner who stole money from a lot of his clients and he's now serving a 5 year prison sentence. Trisha and her son Petey left their hometown of Sweetwater Springs because Petey was getting bullied about his dad's crimes and everyone thought it was far-fetched that Trisha didn't know her husband was stealing money. I'll be honest, I found it hard to reconcile this with the Sweetwater Springs I know, but I guess there are some bad apples in the bunch who make the rest look bad. Now Trish & Petey are settled in Somerset Lake. Trish has become the property manager of a set of lake cottages in desperate need of repair.

Jake is an attorney who is back in his hometown of Somerset Lake. Oh, and he flies a seaplane when he's back on the lake. He's been sent by his family to convince his grandma Vi to sell the cottages and move to FL with the rest of the family. Only, she doesn't want to move and leave her home, despite having had a stroke. Jake doesn't stay for long when he visits his hometown. His high school sweetheart was killed in an auto accident their senior year and he's had a hard time getting over that heartache, especially when he's around the places they enjoyed together. So like usual, he plans on staying just long enough to do what he's sent there by his family to do.

As you expect, Jake and Trisha hit it off, but they are both hiding secrets - Trisha with her ex-husband's crimes and Jake with his reason for being there (that would put her out of a job and home). Somehow they still manage to fall in love despite all that and despite only knowing each other briefly. It wasn't entirely believable and seemed rush, but I've come to expect that with Ms. Rains.

I loved little Petey. He was utterly adorable and so smart for a kid his age. I also loved that Jake didn't find Petey and his questions annoying, but he loved the kid's curiosity since he too was just like Jake as a kid (and still is - his love of how-to manuals was adorable). And Bailey, the dog was cute too.

The town was cute, the Friday night festival seemed fun and the side characters were nice additions to the book. I look forward to the next book in the series - it looks like Lucy is the heroine. We only got to

Other than a few kisses, that's about all we get in this one regarding intimacy. They never spend the night together or anything like that. This book is about as clean as it can be. For once, I could overlook that since I enjoyed the actual story.

On a side note, the whole financial planner stealing from his clients in Western NC sounded familiar. I know someone from that area who is in prison now for doing the same exact thing, so I'm curious if the author had inspiration from real-life to write that part of the plot.

The Summer Cottage is book 1 in the Somerset Lake Series by Annie Rains. The title included the word summer and the cover was absolutely begging me to step inside. The title and cover were responsible for my purchasing and opening the book, but the story and the writing kept me returning. It took me a little while to finish the book, about a week and a half, because life was hectic, but every moment I sat down I was smiling and relaxed.

I loved everything about this book.

First, the romance was perfect. The characters have backstories, but the author did a fantastic job of focusing on the now with little thoughts given to the future to balance out the past. Jake and Trisha communicated and it was beautiful and so very refreshing. I don’t need my characters to be over 40, but I need them to have weathered some storms and use their experiences to make informed decisions. The characters made mistakes and had moments I wanted to shake them a bit, but they opened up when they needed to and demonstrated so much maturity at many pivotal points in the story. I had many moments where I sighed in relief and happiness even when things were all tangled up.

Next, small town and sisterhood play an important role and they are beautifully portrayed. I love a small and quirky town where everyone knows everything, but the author balances this with true compassion and a willingness to trust and build people up. The moments with the book club made my heart smile. Trisha had to take leaps of faith and I am so glad the town and the women in it provided her with safety nets and the support she needed to keep moving forward for both her and Petey.

The main theme in the book is Home. One of my favorite quotes dealing with this is “Home isn’t as much a place as a feeling. You can have that anywhere.” I feel like the main characters are striving to find that feeling of home more than they are at trying to find love and this is a refreshing romantic angle. Of course, love really is like finding your home in another person!

Character growth and development was somehow both subtle and great from beginning to end. I loved that Jake and Trisha were falling in love, but growing and maintaining other relationships and their individual identities in small ways throughout.

Truly a wonderful story and delivered and developed so very well. My heart is happy for Jake, Trisha and Petey and hope we get to see more glimpses of them in the series.

This is my first book by Annie Rains but it won’t be my last!

This was a wonderful story of love and redemption, forgiveness and hope. Trisha has moved with her young son Petey to be the property manager for the Somerset Cottages. Escaping her ex-husband’s criminal past in Sweetwater Springs, Trisha is determined to have a fresh start, without the dark cloud of her husband’s theft hanging over her. At the lake, Trisha meets Vi’s grandson Jake, and, as expected, the two fall into love. Actually, I would describe their relationship more as an amble, taking it slow and easy since both have pasts to deal with. The story is mostly on the development of their relationship and both of them forming new relationships in Somerset Lake. I was delighted with the whole book. The plot was magical; the characters were realistic, complete with flaws and changes that needed to be made. The lessons that the new couple learned and that they taught me were timeless ones, about taking a chance on love and on trusting and forgiving. I especially enjoyed the idyllic setting and could clearly picture it in my mind from the author’s brilliantly written descriptions. I look forward to reading more in this series and getting to know the little town of Somerset Lake and its residents better. Fans of romance and happy endings will love this book!

Annie does not disappoint. I am so excited for this cast of characters in Somerset Lake and loved getting another experience with Trisha and Petey. Trisha is new to Somerset Lake and is ready to work on her fresh start after a nasty divorce and a hard time in Sweetwater Springs after her husband wronged so many people. She is a little closed off and not ready to like her boss's grandson, Jake. But when Petey gets involved and new friends make her feel so welcome, it was so much easier for her to take a chance on a true fresh start at both life and love. Fans of Sweetwater Springs and also of small town romances with lots of heart, you need this book.

This was a nice sweet story and I think it’s the first one I’ve read by this author. It’s a light refreshing story, perfect for the beach.
It takes place in a quaint sounding beach cottage community. Trisha and her son are starting over here. Jake returns to his hometown and runs into Trisha early one morning. Each has a few secrets to share.
I enjoyed the story and look forward to more in the series.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy

The Summer Cottage is about letting go of the past to allow for new beginnings. It's about allowing yourself to love after being devastated. Trisha goes through so much but she does one helluva job protecting her son while she's doing it.

Great first book in the Sommerset Lake series by Annie Rains. I have been looking forward to reading Trisha’s book since we met her in Sweetwater Springs. Don’t worry you don’t need to read that book first but you will probably want to read that series after finishing this book.

I love the first book in a companion series! Meeting all the new characters and guessing who will be the future MCs is my favorite part. Somerset Lake is a nice setting, like Sweetwater Springs, and I can’t wait to explore more of the town and people in upcoming book. Jake and Trisha had a cute relationship too.
