Best part was the story took turns with each chapter, it has so many things which was in my mind. Bethany and Brandon chemistry, How Bethany’s Father, Dr Chopra’s Daughter and Clara’s Grandfather all died and was connected with same thing.
At the end it was unpredictable to know how they find out about the ghost and how they fight with him, and the end was so touching to know was Bethany got a new start of the life.

My Thoughts :
This is a short paranormal story (about a 100 page read). The story begins with Bethany's interactions with her Psychiatrist where Bethany desperately struggled to convince her doctor that she is delusional. Amrita flaunts her obvious knowledge of science and medicine and it is rather impressive plus it kind of felt cool to learn a few new interesting scientific terms too. Even though the story did not seem to sit well with me while reading the first few pages (specially the fact that the characters kept addressing the entity as 'ghost' and that the main characters lacked depth since it is such a short story) it started to take off quite swiftly with the appearance of new characters like Dr. Chopra, a parapsychologist, and Micheal Bloomfield. And once it did, I honestly did not want to put down the book. What makes it even more fun is that the second half of the book has a completely different setting !!!!!
Combining traces from Indian history and science fiction, Amrita brings in new flavor to this paranormal mystery that shares a story of love, sacrifice and bravery. Bethany's story teaches us that sometimes we have to fight out own battles and when someone helps you and they’re struggling too, that’s not help, that’s love.
Last but not the least, I would like to wholeheartedly thank the author for gifting me a copy of her book in exchange of an honest review. I wish her all the best for her future endeavors and believe that she will surprise her readers with many more captivating stories.
Bethany Sutterfield is an eighteen year-old student going through a very difficult time in her life. Not only have her parents killed each other but she herself suffers from horrible nightmares that leave her feeling desolate and scared. And, above it all, she realizes there is a ghost haunting her as well....It could not get any worse for her. The story is a journey of the how she uses whatever help she can get to finally confront and destroy that which is trying to destroy her. There are some similarities with the book 'Many Lives, Many Masters' by Dr. Brian Weiss, which also deals with past life regression therapy. That story was from the POV of the psychiatrist, while this one is from the patient's POV. The common theme in both is that sometimes the key to the present lies in the past. The book starts out at a normal pace but slowly builds up, weaving the reader into a web of mystery and suspense. There are sufficient twists and turns to keep the reader interested till the end. I enjoyed reading it though I felt that the writing and editing could've been crisper at places to enhance the reader's experience of the mysterious and the unknown. Still, its a great effort and best wishes to the author.
The book starts where Bethany is discussing about her nightmare with the psychiatrist. She has the same nightmare every other night where a boy is killed in a fort and with upcoming days her nightmare grows. Her father used to had the same dream as Bethany and also wanted to kill her but her mother saved Bethany's life and sacrificed her own. Brandon and Clara are her best friends and I totally adore the character of Clara. She supported her throughout her difficulties. I liked confident Dr. Chopra, the parapsychologist, who helped Bethany with the help of other 3 members to discover a 200 years old secret.
Every part of the book is described amazingly. However, I got lost in between the nightmares but I enjoyed the book and the secret history.
Loved it! The main character (Bethany) is relatable, where her reality of being able to see the child ghost is (understandably) misinterpreted for mental issues. Her interaction with the cast of characters (which are very well written and realistic) range from hilarious to frustrating. Her backstory is complex, and serves to make the main story all the more engaging; think a snowball of tragic consequences that take years and generations until the present day when the story takes place. The narration has a good pace, it isn't tiring or dense, but the environments could use a little bit more description. The dialogues are realistic, as they don't sound forced or out of place. It's got a good mix of metaphysical and science fiction elements. Finally, the ending ties up all loose ends and some references to the first act that weren't immediately obvious. This one is a must read!
This is a clever thriller about Bethany who is haunted by a ghost (a boy) who appears in her nightmares. The book outlines her desperation at not being believed or supported by others. Bethany goes on to meet a parapsychologist who explains that the ghost is seeking revenge. This does little to appease her. It is intriguing enough to keep the reader turning the pages for the answers to Bethany's dilemma. A great read!
This book presents a unique viewpoint and potential set of circumstances that are intriguing to explore. The trials of Bethany and the lengths she might go to in order to solve her personal mysteries create social and psychological problems that can be viewed through kaleidoscopic filters.
The author has smartly crafted an engrossing, nail biting thriller. All the twists and turns keep you engaged and yet come together beautifully at the end of the plotline. It was quite an enjoyable read. I look forward to the author's future books.
"A story that will keep you engaged till the very end."
Happen to finish this short read lately, it felt so good to read something after so long. Anyway getting back to the review, as the title suggests the story is about a teenage girl named Bethany who gets continuous nightmares about a boy's ghost. These nightmares make it hard for her to live a normal life and then comes Dr Chopra, her knight in the shining armour.
I found the storyline unique. It was so interesting to read something different. The author's style of storytelling is commendable which made me enjoy every single bit of the book. The writing has a smooth flow and will recommend it to those trying to get out of a reading slump. I feel that the author's work is very much underrated and she deserves much recognition.
The Odd Life of Bethany Sutterfield is a psychological thriller full of suspense and rather original compared to the usual books of this genre. This is about Bethany, an orphan who lost her parents after they killed each other in front of her eyes. After that, she is haunted by terrible nightmares and a scary ghost of a boy.
I like how she is determined to overcome her problem: she doesn’t let anyone tell her what to do and she is very brave. I appreciated her best friend, Clara, as well. She is very supportive throughout the story and I kinda ship them at some point!
What I didn’t like was Brandon. I found it annoying all the time, he acted like he didn’t want to help Bethany and treated her like shit for most of the story, then he suddenly changes his mind and I found it very inconsistent and unrealistic. I didn’t appreciated Geeky Mike too because he came out from nowhere, when he is first presented it isn’t clear at all that he is Clara’s boyfriend and his personality is just roughly described.
The plot itself is, as I said, quiet original, but the story lacks of deepening. The apparitions of the ghost are described very vaguely, the emotions of the characters don’t transpire at all, the dialogues aren’t realistic most of the times. Some scenes are chaotic and confusing, for example the one in which Bethany "travels through time" with Clara.
I think the story is nice and the author can write quite well, but this needs several revisions and maybe a beta-reader to deal with.

Genre: Psychological and Paranormal Thriller Storyline: 4/5 Literature: 3.5/5
The plot revolves around a teenager called Bethany Sutterfield who has had a troubled past due to which she suffers from terrifying nightmares. Bethany had a loving family and a wholesome life but things started to go downhill after her father got deployed to a war zone in Iraq. She came to know that her father had faced a near death experience during the war and post that he started seeing and feeling paranormal beings. Life was never the same after she witnessed the death of her parents which was primarily brought about by her father who was in the brink of insanity.
Bethany started sensing the aura of spirits post this traumatic experience which made her life go haywire. Though her psychologist, Dr. Andrews, feels that everything is a figment of her imagination brought about by her trauma, Bethany was convinced that it is not stress but actual paranormal beings that are haunting her. She finally reached out to Dr. Chopra, a world renowned mental healer and paranormal expert to bring her out of her insanity.
The storyline is gripping and the author has developed the characters well which makes you feel for the plight of Bethany. Though the story is based on make-belief concept, the plot was unravelling logically. I feel the content could have been more crisp with better literature structuring.
All in all it is a fun and exciting read which you can finish off in a single sitting.
This is an interesting somewhat psychological thriller. However, they describe the characters as being in college but the ambience gives more of a highschool feel. Tardy passes, bullies, calling parental guardians that doesnt really happen in college. Besides that small little detail bugging me, the story line was interesting. Being haunted by a vengeful spirit but playing the long game instead of outright killing you as soon as he gets the chance is an interesting concept that was explored. The idea of pasts lives is also interesting in how it was explored. However, the writing style was not my favorite. it was too simplistic and sometimes felt unnatural. The love confession from brandon seemed forced and the character development of brandon is non-existent, he also has no redemption arc. Treats his best friend and supposed crush/love extremely bad and does nothing to make it up to her other than go to india to follow her only AFTER he was pestered by Bethany's other friend. Yet Bethany welcomes him back with open arms and also a crush on him too that was never mentioned nor implied up until it was revealed. lastly, the addition of time travel seemed too last minute and unnecessary. i wouldve like to see the idea od time travel be toyed with. the book could've used more work but it fairly good for the author's first efforts.

The premise of this story was a fascinating one. Combining history, fiction, sci fi and the paranormal into the tale of a young woman shaking her “demons” both in this life and previous ones held promise for an intriguing read.
And yet, there was so much wrong with this book.
The writing style was stilted and inconsistent. An almost complete absence of grammatical contractions is the first clue that perhaps the writer was not a native English speaker. With that in mind, I let that go and continued to read.
The voice of the novel was also confusing. It had the tone of an Elizabethan novel, but then throws in slang and vernacular, leaving the overall voice of this novel schizophrenic and inconsistent.
The characters were not fully fleshed out, nor were the locations fully described, making this sound more like a series of scattered journal entries, rather than a cohesive story with well-rounded structure and foundations.
I wanted to keep cheering the author on, as I know what an epic effort the writing of the novel can be, and what a labor of love it is, but I just felt as though I was reading a rough draft of a concept, and not a fully formed novel.
This book had a very interesting premise, and one that I quite enjoyed. There was an air of mystery as well that I greatly appreciated, and I liked learning about Bethany's family and the ghost that has seemingly attached itself to her. It was also clear during reading that Amrita Ghosh has a lot of knowledge about both science and medicine, which made the story seem rather believable from that point of view.
You can tell that this was the authors first effort, but it was by no means a bad one. I think as she continues to write and present novels like this one that she'll grow in her writing, as most all of us do. I gave this book three stars because I do think it gets better from here, and that there is room for improvement in her next book and so on and so on.
The Odd Life of Bethany Sutterfield is an interesting parapsychological thriller that tracks the life of the protagonist with a ghost haunting her. She also has a tragic past and a very vulnerable state of mind. The novel tracks her journey battling these challenges and trying to come out of the situation sanely. The narrative builds the interest and the story takes many turns to keep you engaged. The environment of mystery is built pretty meticulously by the author and the thriller as well as the parapsychological aspect aids the narrative. Overall, it is a great attempt by a debut author and is worth a try. Recommended.
Bethany Has horrific Nightmares and she’s suffered a tragic past with her parents. She sees a ghost yet no one believes her. She knows this ghost is out to hurt her.
Review:
This was a nice short read. It was interesting with its view on past lives which I thought was great. Bethany’s life was quite sad with witnessing such tragic events in her life. I felt like Bethany was quite depressing and “woe is me” so I wasn’t actually a fan of her. I did like the story overall and the ending was a nice twist. If you want a different type of story or just want a short story to read in between books then you should head over to kindle and check this one out.
In The Odd Life of Bethany Sutterfield, Bethany is a young orphaned college student. She suffers from intensely dark dreams. The story tells her back story and takes us through the unusual process used to help her.
My Thoughts
This is a short story involving past lives, ghostly intrigue, and time travel. Although I enjoyed the plot, I felt like it needed more build-up and descriptive language to really draw me in.
The quotes at the beginning of each chapter add a nice touch. I typically don’t care for this, or even read them, but the quotes were worthwhile. I read them all!
This was a great thriller novella woven with superstitions, history and time travel. It could have gone horribly wrong but Amrita Ghosh kept it neatly tied together.
There were a few parts where I needed to re-read in order to figure out what I had missed, but I was compelled to finish this short because I had to see if our main character could persevere and free herself from the ghost haunting her as it had her father.
I enjoyed this thriller and the premise behind the story.
It reads like a first novel and I think the writing was good. I enjoyed it quite a bit. However, when the trunk turned up, it was a little bit too convenient. (Deus ex machine) In addition, the rerun of the nightmares got boring. In real life such a repetition would be more and more frightening, but in a book it was just repetition.
A pretty good ghost thriller. Interesting twists and turns. I like the quotes at the beginning of every chapter and learning a bit about Indian history.
I was so confused reading this book. It’s set in college but it’s more of a high school feel surrounding school. It was a lot packed into a short page count. Meh.
If you enjoy thrillers and paranormal books, this has both!
I want to start by saying the author's dedication in the front of the book was very sweet and made me a little teary eyed. I love when author's take that moment to speak to the reader and she did great with it.
For the story itself, this was a very quick read, less than 100 pages. The plot was interesting, different than any book I've read recently, it kept me hooked from start to finish.
The writing style was good, but it does need a little more editing. I think this author, with a good editor, will do great things.
