Sending a new book out into the world is like putting a small child on the bus for the first time. You're full of anxiety and questions. Will people like her? Was this a mistake?

And every book takes to the experience differently.

Witch Way After Forty tripped on her own feet to get out into the world. I have never been more proud to have my name on a book. Writing her was life-altering and filled me with joy. I hope you feel the same.

Love and light,
Jennifer L. Hart

"People see what they want to see and take the easy way out when you give it to them."

Alys, Maeve and Siobhan Silver: three sisters about to get clobbered with the most unexpected unworldly gifts they could imagine. After Alys leaves her skanky husband moving down to the lake house they grew up in, they find something that changes their lives completely and now it's their choice what to do with it.

A shifter a wraith and a lawyer come across them. Who's gonna win? How will it change them?

For better or for worse, here come the Silver Sisters and in these characters, Jennifer L Harte lets them loose and given a chance they'll change their world, and at least your perception of the world as we know it. These are great women and the beginning of a great new series. Highly Recommended 5/5

Alys Stevens has an average until she find her husband in bed with another women. OUCH! The Silver sisters are a great bunch of characters and what a great group of friends. I feel in love with this series right away! I love the magic and the love the sisters share for each other. I have not read any books from this author before but I can't wait to try book 2. I can see this series being picked up for streaming, TV and/or a movie or two. I think they should research books more to come up with new idea for more TV shows and movies than what they create currently. I would love to see what they can do with this series! Great book Jennifer Hart!! I listened to this audiobook and I really enjoyed the narration! What a great job Jacqueline Rendell!

Witch Way After Forty, first in the Silver Sisters paranormal women's fiction series by Jennifer L. Hart, hits all the points I love in any genre! It is wonderful in so many ways!!! A great plot with elements of mystery throughout, awesome sister interaction (a biggie with me), romance that sucks me in, and brave and kind hearts all stand out and make me want to reread this book now! I love that the sisters address their new powers intelligently even though some are resistant to the idea and naturally unsure how to use them. Intriguing paranormal elements along side very realistic people make this first novel in the Sisters series a great balance and irresistible and there is so much more!!!
As a big fan of Jennifer L. Hart, I requested an ARC of Witch Way After Forty and I am thrilled with the beginning of this new series and I can't wait for the next one. I will be begging for that ARC, too. Thank you, Ms. Hart for not making me wait until my Kindle pre-order to arrived to dive into this new series.

A new series full of wonderful new characters and awesome magical adventures.

Alys, Maeve and Sibby three typical sisters, coping with all the crap that comes with nearing middle age!!!
But wait... it turns out life for these three sisters is about to take a magical twist into the weird and unknown, with a few surprises thrown in for good measure.
Alys is the strong sister, Maeve is the nurturer and Sibby is the unconventional one, these sisters fight but when they need each other that are always there in an instant or even quicker in Sibby’s case...lol
These new characters were delightful to get to know, I’m looking forward to many more story’s of them together.
Oh and I have to say, I know we were taught to beware of the big bad woof!!! But damn What do we do when the wolf is all sweet and sexy...lol

I am actually looking forward to the next in the series being released, which, lately, has been an unusual thing for me. I just hope this doesn't turn into some insane series like another popular series that (last I heard) had 18 books in it. I absolutely lose interested beyond 5-7 titles.

The fact that this deals with women who are (mostly) secure in themselves, enjoying life beyond being moms and wives, and, of course, entering the witchy realm of existence, is just perfect for my imagination.

The fact that each title looks like it is going to work together, while still being essentially stand-alone romances makes my heart sing. So, THANK YOU to the author for not making me read an entire series just to reach the end of a single sister's story.

Got the audiobook for free at a stuff your earbuds event. The narrator was OK, except when she took the Australian accent of the MMC, which took me out each time.
All the female characters are over forty, which is a nice change. It was interesting to read the sisters relationship and dynamics.

Beware, I think that the person who wrote the book description didn't read the book because it is somewhere between misleading and plainly wrong.

3-3.5 stars. To be honest, I don’t know how I feel about this book. It wasn’t what I expected after reading the blurb here on GR. The women were enjoyable and I like that they were sisters and how they interacted with each other. All the ‘witchy’ parts were fun but the rest wasn’t very exciting. Still can’t decide if I’m going to continue with this series or not.

I wish these three sisters were more like the Sanderson sisters in Hocus Pocus. Now THAT would be funny!

I started out liking it a lot, the opening scene was brilliant and the nod to Charmed was right up my alley. The only thing bugging me initially were the always overly dramatic ominous chapter endings, followed by POV switch. Ugh. Total cheap shot.
But the more I read, the more I realized this wasnt just a nod to Charmed with three sisters discovering their hidden ancestry it was essentially a re-telling.

In the end it was just too much. Although I'll admit that for me it was already ruined the minute the Sebastian/Cole storyline became apparent. It was bad enough in the original, no need to put myself through that again

Witch Way After Forty is a magical, delightful and humorous read of three over forty sisters who are vastly different, very loyal to each other and who have come to terms with what life has thrown them. Singly they are survivors. Together, they are a reckoning force.

Hart throws enlightenment and humor into this critical period in every woman’s life. I am well past “after forty”; but I was totally immersed within a few chapters. OK, I was taken aback by page one. I mean, with eyes bugging out and mouth in the “O” position taken aback.

Alys, is the eldest with a successful home renovation business, a failed marriage, and a sleaze for a soon to be ex husband. She is the rock. Maeve is the middle sister with a family, doting husband and a pillar in the community. She is the glue. The youngest is Siobhan who never really quite fit in growing up. She is the maverick and rebel. But don’t mess with her family because she is fierce, protective and vindictive.

It all begins one nostalgic evening with an old family brew concocted by Siobhan releasing old and powerful magic. Yep, all hell breaks loose with all kinds of mayhem. Some may be over the top; but hey, have another sip of wine and just go with it.

Brock…Alys’s general contractor, is a male specimen that can turn every woman’s head regardless of age. He turned mine and I didn’t even really see him.

I never considered myself a cozy book reader; but throw in some magic and fantasy and, well, you’ve got me. Maybe this could be a new genre? Cozy Fantasy? In any case, be prepared for the dribbling of whatever you be drinking. LOL!!!

I did not miss the play on words with Witch vs Which in the title. That’s a good one!

Three flawed sisters with magical powers and great start to the series

I really enjoyed this female centered tale of the three sisters, Alys, Maeve and Sibby. The three sisters were orphaned young and raised by their eccentric hippie aunt in a small cabin in the woods. When Alys (who is now 49) decides she needs a divorce from her cheating lazy husband, the sisters celebrate in the cabin and drink an empowerment brew. The brew awakens their magical powers. Now they need to contend with powers they do not know how to use along with the rest of their everyday problems. The story includes what you’d expect from this genre - fighting, dangerous situations, paranormal creatures, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, plot twists, mystical coincidences, snark, and laughs. It also includes witty dialogue, characters with depth, and an engaging storyline. Expect to laugh, to cry, to grit your teeth, to cringe, to shout, and to root for the sisters to harness their powers, find love, clean up some life messes, and defeat the bad guys. This is book one in a trilogy and while some minor subplots are resolved, there are still lots of unresolved, large and small, issues when the book ends. This was okay with me, I enjoyed the book enough to keep reading the next book in the series.

Reckless & Uptight, how fun

Marriages are complicated. Divorces are complicated. Families are complicated. It’s just lazy writing to make the ex-husband a mustache-twirling villain and it’s even lazier writing to have the fmc dating a new guy within an hour of the separation - particularly when the next chapter is her demanding that her sisters go to the hospital for drinking a shot.

I had to go back reread the part where she went home with Brock and talked about her mother’s death. She says that her mother was her age when she died and internally thinks that she was 18 went it happened, but then says aloud that she was ten.

Sister witches, sister rivalry, sister love

Three witches, three sisters, three POVs. Plus an added perspective from someone I won’t reveal for fear of spoiling, I’ll leave that for you to find out. The main point of view is Alys. Will she make it past her mother’s age?

A well-written book. The writing style has an easy flow to it that makes you want to read on and on. Deliciously funny and scrumptiously wicked!

Favorite quote, because it’s so true!
“Life was too short to play by anyone else’s rules.”

There are adult scenes.

I'm pretty sure most Inuit are happy to intermarry with non-Inuit. Why was Kal shunned? I'm tired of shitty Indigenous representation in books, especially fantasy.

A midlife crisis and the dissolution of a marriage after catching your spouse in the act is difficult enough. Or is it near end crisis, as Aly is quickly approaching a birthday she feels she is cursed to die at. But curses don't exist. Oh wait, magic has been awoken? Well if magic and mystical creatures do...

Needless to say Aly is having a terrible week. It's made complicated when her normally steadfast middle sister brings in their youngest sibling who is oil to Aly's water to help her with her own personal matter. Now all must come together to help sort out their personal problems -magical and mundane.

The strength of this book is absolutely in how strong each of the characters are written. They distinctly have their own paths and attitudes and mirror the complicated way of sibling relationships I've seen beautifully. I can honestly say I don't have a favorite. Aly's work and family ethics as well being ultimately a designer as well as a financial specialist make her interesting enough without her plight.

I just want to hug Maeve senseless. Not only for her own personal problem but her beautiful family. it is incredibly refreshing to have a strong marriage a part of a book that's probably bringing half of the readers in for the romantic side plots. Her tendency to be mediator and people pleaser just squeezes the heart.

Then there's Siobhan who is just absolutely unapologetic. maybe too impulsive for her sister's tastes, I think she is actually the most complex. There are hints that despite her devil care all exterior she has a lot of internal processing and desires she has avoided. I think she has the most room to grow.

Take these sisters and throw them in with a bunch of interesting side characters who we learn about this greater hidden world from and this was just a generally nice little romp that certainly did not stay in fluff territory. The mix of the two worlds and all the sisters are dealing with is quite heavy in very real-world ways. A pleasant surprise.

I enjoyed this book. The story follows three very different sisters as they discover they are witches and each book focuses on one sister as she finds love. It kind of reminds me of a grown up version of the tv show charmed. The story is told by all three as they each struggle with different things. The oldest sister struggles with control and has to learn to let go as each sister needs her less and less, she is also married to an unfaithful man. The middle sister is the only one married and with children but she has a chronic illness that she has to come to terms with. The youngest sister is the care free sister and the more open to using magic but she has to learn that running away doesn't solve your problems. This story is the first in the series and follows the oldest sister, it is also where they first learn about there magic powers and how to control it or not. I just loved it. There is so much going on it that you just have to read it ( I can also recommend the rest of the books in the series because each book follows on from the last and is like one big book).
Alys comes home to find her husband in bed with a prostitute. To help her forget her troubles her sisters concoct a drink from there aunts recipe book. In the morning the drink has helped open there eyes to a while new world. A world where magic hunters are tracking them to steal there souks. Now Alys has not only got a cheating husband to contend with but also learning to control magic that is triggered by her temper. Falling in love with the Alpha of the local werewolf pack isn't the best idea either but when a young werewolf goes missing all three sisters are there to help. Even if it means using there magic makes them vulnerable to a world they knew nothing about.

Tension, romance and humour

Jennifer L. Hart was able to surprise me again and again with her books. So I was looking forward to this book with great anticipation.
This book is refreshingly different in the PWF genre. You take turns following the three sisters Alys, Maeve and Sibby. Each of these three sisters is unique and I loved the details of each character. In particular, the author succeeded in showing the special relationship between the three - the friction as well as a deep bond between them.
After the three sisters consume a special cocktail, magical powers manifest in each sister. Here, too, Jennifer L. Hart shines with ingenuity - I particularly liked the way the new forces are triggered.
Such abilities do not go undetected and the three are quickly in danger. The storyline was exciting and the cliff hangers at the end of each chapter made it impossible for me to interrupt the book.
But there is not only an exciting plot; I also enjoyed the romance a lot. Alys love story is full of emotions and I could feel the tension between these two characters right from the start.
The audio book is narrated by Jacqueline Rendell. She knows how to increase the emotions and the tension and I especially loved the various accents, she used for some characters.
Overall a humorous book full of tension, that also deals with more serious topics. I am looking forward to read more about the three sisters.
Note: I received free copy of the audio book. I voluntarily listened and reviewed it.

As always at Christmas, I found a new series to fill my shelves by reading the series’ Christmas story. In this case it was Jingle All the Witch Way. So it was incredibly exciting to go back and read the first Silver Sisters story. I mean, I’m absolutely in love with this trio, and it was a whole lot of fun to go back and read the first of the series. The one where Alys, Maeve and Sibby find their powers. I love that they start off their journey into becoming powerful witches and completely changing their lives when they are in their forties. It’s a bit like a midlife crisis, but one that isn’t exactly a choice. And, honestly, a great reminder that we go through big changes in our lives, constantly. It doesn’t matter how old we are.

Alys’ growth and period of change is the focus of Witch Way After Forty. I love that, even though she’s the quintessential oldest sister, and ridiculously controlling, she still finds the love of her life. I love that, even if Brock is younger than Alys, he is someone with a whole lot more maturity. He’s also someone who wants to help her and take care of her. He’s a great balance to everything that Alys is. And, even if he wants to take care of her, he doesn’t want to clip her wings. Brock finds a way to support her and be a partner, exactly the kind of man that dreams are made of.

Although I completely understand the role that Alys plays within her family, and the ways in which she puts up a multitude of walls. Particularly with her siblings. I may not like how she dismisses Sibby and is consistently harsh with her judgements. But I also love how accurately Hart writes the sibling relationship. It’s loving and intense, but also filled with frustrations with one another. I love that this huge time of change for all of the siblings also helps to restore and repair their relationships. Plus, regardless of how frustrating they find one another, they also completely and 100% have each others’ backs. Siblings can be cruel to one another, but they will also absolutely destroy anyone who threatens each other.

Kylie is actual, and astounding trash. I honestly love how Alys and he are introduced in this story. With Alys just destroying him physically and mentally within the first few pages. I love that Alys is able to deliver the comeuppance to him that he most definitely deserves. I mean, he is filled with malicious intent and is an emotionally abusive douche nugget. Thus, it’s great when Alys is able to just… eviscerate him. In each and every engagement they have.

I love that, alongside Alys’ divorce and her falling for Brock, there is a whole lot of other mystery. Trying to figure out what is wrong with Maeve, sorting out just who Sebastian is. And, then, as the culmination of the drama that has surrounded the sisters from the first page, the wraith and the missing child. Witch Way After Forty is a fantastic way to start a series. And now I can’t wait to dive on into Witch Way Did She Go to learn more about Maeve’s story about finding balance. Where Alys had to learn to give up control, Maeve needs to learn to find balance. And I’m completely onboard with that journey.

If you liked the original Charmed tv series

You'll like this, it's the same basic story. Picture three sisters, the youngest one is kind of fighty and had a bad relationship with the oldest. the middle sister is the super responsible peacekeeper.

Baby sis finds a book , drinks a potion, says a spell, and weird stuff starts to happen. Big sis and middle sis try to blow it off but little sis is excited.
.
Spoilers in this section

.
The girls are still dealing with the death of there mom, their father's abandonment, and the death of the lady who raised them after mom died. There is even a supernatural handy man who is into the middle sister. The youngest is having feelings about a possible bad guy who wants to be good (Cole). I think the author is also concerned about this similarities because she went to a lot of effort to included a subplot that didn't advance the story AT ALL but did allow her to point out, many times, for no reason, that the middle sister does not like to cook.

It's far to easy to see where inspiration came from, but that doesn't keep it from being a great story. And I do love a story about women who have self image issues, aren't super young, and are figuring themselves out.

An emotionally abusive cheating husband who wants to freeload off his wife's income while he plays golf, and a quickly approaching birthday that will make her the same age her mother was when she died, accompanied by dreams of her death, Alys has lost control of her life. She moves into the old family cabin, prepared to start life as a single woman at 40. On her first night there, her sisters come over wanting a girl's night. After drinking a 'spelled' drink, the sisters wake with powers. Alys can control the environment, Maeve is an enchantress, and Sibby can teleport. The sisters have to quickly navigate the chaos their new powers present while dealing with everyday life.

This book was heavily influenced by Charmed and the Halliwell sisters, but it was not as well done or compelling. These sisters will never live up to their legacy. Prue, Piper, and Phoebe were the best along with Leo and Cole. Still, it was entertaining. My biggest complaint was missing details. It needed more rounding out. Why was Maeve so secretive about her illness with her loved ones? What attracted Alys to Kurt? Why exactly was she so hateful to Sibby? I would have enjoyed this book more if the sisters had a closer bond. I wanted ride-or-die relationships.

I love paranormal woman’s fiction. Midlife insanity because that is what midlife is with magic and mayhem and a side of humor always makes my book loving soul happy. This story is no exception. After finding her hubs banging a hired 20 something by girl it sends her down a path I don’t think she was prepared for. A night of empowerment with her sisters opens the doors into the paranormal world for Alys her sisters as well brings a very yummy some one into better focus. It’s full of girl power, crazy antics and magic. I loved it even when I didn’t so much love the fact she let her scezzy husband do whatever. It’s character building and it all makes sense in the end but while I don’t like it, I love the emotion things like that invoke. And it invoked some strong sailor worthy emotions. I also have to give the author props. I rarely find PWF genre high in the heat department and this is no exception but the way she so smoothly added in the hey this may be to steamy for some readers warning was awesome.

Book 1 - Witch Way After Forty
Three witchy sisters
Loved this story about three older sisters who for fun make an empowerment drink and suddenly find themselves powerful witches.
If they only knew what they were doing!!
The book mainly centres on Alys whose marriage breaks down leaving her filing for divorce and now single.
Paving the way for a much younger sexy man who has been on the sidelines eager to let his intentions be known on how he feels about her.
We also learn about the other two sisters as they play a big part in this book as well.
There is drama, evil entities after all the sisters, a magical community to be introduced to, some fun and sexy times making this an excellent novel that I’m really looking forward to finding out more in the following books.
Really great relatable characters and I enjoyed this narration.
I received a free copy of this audiobook and this is my honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5/5

This is the first book of Jennifer’s that I have been introduced to and I have to say I have fallen in love. Her writing style is so great, the personalities of the characters are fitting for sisters, the humor is amazing, and the suspense towards the end 😱

I love that this is following a gal in her late forties and it’s not some young 20 year old that is clueless about life. I am proud of how Alys has handled the absolute bs that was just handed to her and I am so excited for this new journey she is going on. This book is sprinkled with werewolves, fae, and more.

This has earned a spot on my actual bookshelves and I cannot wait to read the others! I do wish that they were on KU, but that’s okay! Just going to be a bit slow in acquiring these but it is a MUST! This one will forever live rent free in my head and will pop up from time to time. I really loved this and will get my hands on as many of her books as I can 🥰

Three sisters. One is a nurturer, one is a free spirt, and one is a tightly wound control freak. What do they have in common? Love, friendship, and trust. And apparently magic!

This is a wonderful family saga filled with exciting characters both loving and evil. The experiences, joys, and despairs are written so well that for me the women became almost real. None of them were perfect-but who is. I loved the way they pushed and pulled each other, but always loyal no mater what.

Just when the reader thinks they have all the information in hand, the author surprises us. It makes for intense reading at times! But the minute I finished the book, I was wishing the next one of the series was ready to be devoured! This was one book that was hard to put down!

Fantastic start to this new paranormal series!

Wow, this one grabs you right from the start with a completely unexpected scene (no spoilers, you have to read it!) Of course, I had to keep reading after that and discovered an engaging PWF story; with humor, but also a bit dark in places. This is the first book in a series about the three Silver sisters. I liked the format, because even though the story centers on Alys, the author switched points of view between the sisters. Each chapter heading tells you whose POV it was, so it was easy to keep track. The characters are well done, the story is original, and even though there is a tease into the next book, enough issues are wrapped up in this one to make for a satisfactory ending. If you like paranormal women’s fiction, I recommend that you pick up this series starter about three diverse sisters who learn that midlife can be the start of an exciting and surprising chapter of their lives!
