Four and a half stars.
Sometimes a book just has a cast of characters that seem to be just that, characters. Other times they come across as real believable people. Such is the case in this book. This is book 8 in a series about Mulberry Lane. I had not read any of the others yet I quickly felt enfolded into the lives and families of Peggy Ronaski and Maureen Hart.
The book starts in 1958. Peggy Ronaski’s family is struggling with growing pains but she is a rock, who does her best to help when troubles and strife hits. Her dear friend Maureen Hart has her own family issues to deal with. Together these friends work hard to deal with things and hopefully overcome whatever curve balls life throws at them. They make a formidable team as they deal with health issues of loved ones, serious accidents, family changes, and look toward the future.
The fact that it took me several days to read this book has nothing to do with its merit. It is a gem. More just a case of life and the time of year getting in the way. I certainly wanted to always come back to it and keep reading. A book that stirs the emotions in so many ways Probably would be even better if you read more of the series but not necessary to enjoy this book, it is a book to read, become involved with and enjoy.

I have been a fan of Rosie’s work for a while now. I haven’t caught up with everything that she has written to date but I am getting there. I must admit that I have a special fondness for the ‘Mulberry Lane’ series. ‘New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane’ is the latest instalment of the series and it was released on 3rd February 2022. It’s another corker of a read and then some. I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane’ but more about that in a bit.
This was one of those books that once I started reading it, I just couldn’t stop. I was drawn into the story from the very first word on the very first page and from then on I just couldn’t put my Kindle down. My Kindle wasn’t exactly glued to my hand but it might as well have been because it travelled everywhere with me. I couldn’t bear to miss a single second of the story. I became so wrapped up in the lives and loves of the various Mulberry Lane residents that I just had to keep reading to see how they linked into the story and how the story turned out for them. I had my own suspicions as to what was going to happen and I had to see if I was on the right track or if I wandered down another road entirely. I couldn’t turn the pages of the book quickly enough as I worked my way through the story. All too quickly I reached the end of the story and I had to say goodbye to Mulberry Lane and its residents. I found ‘New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane’ to be a gripping and at times an emotional read.
‘New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane’ is superbly written but then I have come to expect nothing less from Rosie Clarke. Rosie has one of those easy going writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact reading one of Rosie’s books feels more like a chat between friends rather than reading an actual book. I hope that makes sense. Rosie cares about her characters and this shines through in the very vivid and realistic way in which she describes them. In fact her characters seem just as real as you and I. Rosie has clearly done a lot of research into the time period in which the story takes place and this shines through in the quality and authenticity of the story. I loved the way in which real life events were woven into the story. I found that I became very involved in the story to the extent that I felt the same emotions as the characters were going through. I love the way in which Rosie makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action.
In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading ‘New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane’ and I would recommend it to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Rosie’s work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

It’s a real pleasure to be back in the neighbourhood of Mulberry Lane catching up with all the residents!

As time marches on, Peggy’s twins are growing up and looking beyond their school years, planning for what they would like to do career-wise. Her friend Maureen’s daughter Shirley is now a qualified doctor and looking to fulfil her plans and dreams. While life continues around the lanes, there is a new generation coming to the fore.

I have followed this series from the very beginning and it has been a wonderful read. Honest and realistic, the author has never pulled her punches but finally the community around the lanes has a more secure future than the war years provided. Peggy is still at the centre of things, as ever, but her – and everyone else’s – youngsters are almost grown with ideas of their own about where life will lead them. Life can never be all rosy, though, and there are a few pitfalls along the way. Always wonderfully warm and well written, coming back to this series creates a lovely feeling, recalling all that has gone before and marvelling at how the characters have developed and the story continues to be a right good read. Very enjoyable and entertaining, I am very happy to recommend not only this novel but the whole series and give this one 4.5*.

Few things puzzling me

In book 7 Maureen Hart gave birth to a son called Matty and Rose Barton also had a third child, a son. Neither of them mentioned in book 8. Keith said his brother died in Berlin in book 7 but in book 8 he was working with him in Africa. At start of book 8, Rose Barton said she had to go to school as her daughter Jenny was in trouble but nothing else was written about this. I just found these things a bit strange but still enjoyed the book.

I love the Mulberry Lane series but I felt this book lacked the must read emotion that I have felt with previous books in the series.

Book 8 in the mulberry Lane series and like the previous books I loved this one. This is such an excellent series and one that once I start reading I struggle to put the book down . We are back once again with Peggy and Abe and their family & friends . This book is focused a lot on the younger family members and it was great to see them becoming more recognised in this book . This book can be read as a standalone but the other books in this series are well worth a read.

It's 1958 and A NEW DAWN OVER MULBERRY LANE takes place eight years after the previous book in which the women and their families had overcome many obstacles...such as a devastating car accident leaving one of them in a critical condition, the death of a much-loved resident, attacks in the dead of night as well as the long-awaited pregnancy for one of them ten years after her first child...all while still dealing with the rationing of food that was still in short supply fives years after the war had ended. Now at the height of a decade nearing its end sees a new generation stepping up and out to embarks on their own lives.

The author takes us on a new journey of this new generation as we revisit some old favourites. Whilst the focus was on Peggy, Maureen and Pearl in the previous book, it's their children - Maggie, Fay, Shirley and even Freddie - that shine in this installment alongside Peggy and Maureen. Even Peggy's elder daughter Janet features a lot more as does husband Ryan when the child they had so longed for eight years ago is set to being them heartache once again. As always, there is a lot going on in and around Mulberry Lane and with it are plenty of challenges that each of the families face respectively.

One of the first hurdles is Maureen's husband Gordon struck down with serious health issues whilst their daughter Shirley has completed her training as a doctor in Durham, returning to take up a position she has always intended and trained to do - work with the poor who would never visit a doctor otherwise - and she gains the respect of those vagrants as well as her peers along the way. But what is even more surprising in the budding romance that comes her way when she least expected it. We also see a dawn of a new era in medical advancement with new promises coming their way.

Previously, Peggy's daughter Fay had worked hard to train as a figure skater but after a a health scare that would set her training back months, she decides what she really wants to do is bake. And not just the simple kind. Fay has always dreamed big - first with her skating and now with this new venture. Then when Peggy's granddaughter (and Janet's daughter) Maggie moves to London, she surprises everyone with her big plans to change the Pig & Whistle as they all know it. Together she and Fay devise a plan they both intend to pursue with grandeur and the promise of welcoming results.

Meanwhile, Janet is caught between a rock and a hard place. She loves Ryan but she's far from happy. She is discontent and is beginning to look elsewhere for something that will make her happy. Their young son Jon, whom they had longed for so long, has struggles of his own but tackles them in his own way in silence.

Throughout the story, Peggy and Able Ronoscki are one of the central couples alongside Maureen and Gordon. Now it's their children's time to shine as a new generation brings fresh ideas to Mulberry Lane. We see a little less of Rose and Tom Barton in this book but they are still there on the periphery and will more than likely pop up again in future tales. But the stories that surround the primary characters of this book have enough on their hands to deal with - struggles, loss, grief, health issues as well as hope and new beginnings as change is on the horizon for them all.

I have not been with the series from the beginning so therefore there may have been some key experiences I have missed but each book is written in such a way that you don't miss out, bringing the past back through a little backstory while telling the story of the present. I did find the beginning of this book a little slow to get going but once it did I enjoyed it immensely and find myself looking forward to the next installment.

Already I enjoy some of Rosie Clarke's other series - Harpers Emporium and the new Blackberry Farm - as well as some of her standalones. She has the ability to bring a sense of comfort to her stories that you can just see yourself settling into a comfy seat at Peggy's table to enjoy her delicious shepherd's pie with a helping of apple pie and cream for afters.

As always, Rosie Clarke's sagas are a pleasure to revisit even after some time with her warm sense of family and friendship. If you haven't already had the pleasure of the Mulberry Lane series, I definitely recommend it. Even if you start midway, the author brings enough backstory into the present to bring you to speed that you don't miss out. But of course, starting at the beginning is always the best option, if possible.

I enjoyed my trip to Mulberry Lane once again and I'm glad I made the journey. I look forward to future visits.

I would like to thank #RosieClarke, #Netgalley, #BoldwoodBooks and #RachelsRandomResources for an ARC of #ANewDawnOverMulberryLane in exchange for an honest review.

Love this series of strong, smart women passing on their strength

Have read the entire series, from WW2 thru the 50's. This author allows you to truly get to know the characters and it captures you into the story. I have enjoyed every book and feel sad having to wait until the next one arrives!

A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke is the eighth novel in The Mulberry Lane series. I recommend reading this delightful series in order. It will allow you to get to know the characters and the storylines. Eight years has passed since Stormy Days on Mulberry Lane ended. It is now 1958 and the food rationing has finally ended. We return to Mulberry Lane where the younger generation is now making plans for their futures. Peggy and Maureen are busy with their businesses and families. The Pig and Whistle does a bustling business each day as does Maureen’s store which her husband, Gordon runs. Peggy and Maureen also have their cake shop. Shirley, Gordon’s daughter, is graduating from medical school and she will be returning home to practice locally. An illness has Fay rethinking her future. Freddie, Fay’s twin, needs to decide what he wants to do after school. Peggy is surprised when Maggie, her granddaughter, expresses interest in working at the pub. Maggie proves quite adept at cooking and has ideas to improve the pub. The new generation is growing up quickly and has plenty of ideas but are Peggy and Maureen ready to let go of the reins. I enjoyed reading A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane. I have read every book in the series and each one if better than the last. Peggy and Maureen have dealt with so much over the years. The trials are not over yet. I like how everyone pulls together to help each other out on Mulberry Lane. This is a well-written series with developed, friendly characters. Peggy is a woman with great fortitude. She is the lynch pin for the lane along with her husband, Able. There is plenty going on in this saga. I am glad that this story focused on Peggy and Able plus Maureen and Gordon plus their children. We do get to catch up with the others, but they are not the focus this time around. A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane is one of those books that you do not want to end. I enjoy catching up with the characters from this engaging series. We get to follow the various characters as they go about their daily lives. A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane is a charming tale with struggle, loss, love, friendships, grief, health issues, change, perseverance, hope, dreams, and endurance. A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane is a story that will leave you smiling and eager for the next installment.

A good read but.....

Continuity is very bad. Loads of things. Matty, Maureen's 2nd son is missing. So is Rose Barton's child born in the last book. Keith's brother had died in Berlin but was now alive in Africa. Sheila's daughter was called Meg but now called Sarah. Ryan and Janet's son was called little Ryan or James Ryan, and now called Jon. Fay's skating friend was Robert, not Robin. Mike Rowan died in his sleep, but no blood on his face indicated. Now he died and did have blood on his face.
The writer should put all the kids' names in a file or a book to remember when writing the next book.
The mystery of the vanishing children. It is like a story in Coronation Street or Eastenders where normally the kids are upstairs and out of sight and mind. I still enjoyed the book. But hopefully, better attention in the next book.

So typical me manages to read the 8th book in the series but none of the ones before.. but it does mean that I can definitely say it works as a standalone, I didn't feel like I had missed out on anything.

This book is set in 1958 London , the scene is set perfectly you can imagine exactly how it was back then! Peggy and Maureen are two of the best characters I have ever read about , they are so sweet, kind and caring . I was completely drawn in by them and invested in them , the friendship and the unconditional love they have is moving. We follow their lives and their children and see what the future holds for them.

Brilliantly written and a rollercoaster ride of emotions, I will definitely be reading all the books before this one!

A New Dawn Over Mulbery Lane

This is a very sweet book
Peggy
There are quite a few characters to follow but I found this worked really well at establishing the different family members and their connections. Especially for new readers like me where this was my first experience meeting the inhabitants of Mulberry Lane. There are alot of characters to remember and how they are related to each other. I do think I'd have had a better connection to the series of I read these books in order something to go back to. The flow of the booked worked really well.

Book 8 in the Mulberry Lane series and it was like catching up with old friends. Reminders of previous situations and history of the characters very cleverly written within the thread of the story. Loved reading about Peggy and her family after the war years. Love this series and would recommend if you enjoy a great family saga.

The author did not stay consistent with the characters mentioned in the previous book. There were two children born that were not included in this book. The story line was far fetched in places.

A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke is another in saga that Clarke is so well-known for. This one started with WWII and the people that depended on one another to survive, but survive they did, mostly and now they are living in a better world with their children grown or almost grown. Peggy and Able are still working themselves to death between Able and Tom's construction business and Peggy's pub, cake shop, and the boarding house. Maureen and Gordon are still at it, although Gordon's heart is failing and everyone is worried. Their (Gordon's) daughter, Shirley is all set to complete her medical training and come back to the neighborhood to be a doctor, just as she'd planned. Peggy's granddaughter, Maggie, and her daughter, Fay, have decided that running (and upgrading) the pub is for them so they've arrived to help with the cooking and baking, and take some cooking classes to prepare for the future. Life is looking good.

It is like going home, rejoining these people with who we readers have weathered so much. It is heart warming to see the children, grow, fall in love, and get married. Or, if they're not ready for that just to grow and learn. Freddie is having trouble making up his mind if it's university for him and life as a physical education teacher or should he try to become a professional footballer. He has been invited to try out, but what should he do? Of course, there are still some younger children, too. Clarke has a way of writing characters that makes the reader feel as if she knows them, and is really part of their lives. This is just a terrific series. I can wait for the next one to see where everyone's lives take them.

I was invited to read a free e-ARC of A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane by Boldwood Books, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own. #netgalley #boldwoodbooks #rosieclarke #anewdawnovermulberrylane

Switch the kettle on and put your feet up because it’s time to return to Mulberry Lane in the latest entertaining and enjoyable instalment of Rosie Clarke’s wonderful series set in 1950s London.

Peggy Ronsaki is a woman with a big heart who is the first person most people call on in times of trouble. Always willing to help out her friends and neighbours, nothing is too much trouble for Peggy. However, Peggy has her own problems to contend with. Her family is struggling and going through a difficult time, but through all the hardships and trials and tribulations, Peggy remains strong and reliable and a calming presence on Mulberry Lane.

Peggy’s friend Maureen Hart is also going through a rough patch lately with family problems of her own. Luckily for Maureen, Peggy is always in her corner and ready with a kind smile, a sympathetic shoulder and a willingness to help her out in her hour of need.

There are testing times ahead for Peggy, Maureen and their friends and neighbours on Mulberry Lane, but if everyone sticks together, then they can rise above all the challenges and obstacles standing in their way.

Catching up with the inhabitants of Mulberry Lane is always such a joy and this latest installment is Rosie Clarke at her best. Warm-hearted, wonderfully atmospheric and so addictive readers will not want to put this book down, A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane is a celebration of friendship, family and community that cannot fail to raise the spirits and bring a smile to everyone’s face.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Set in London in 1958, A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane is as beautiful as the previous seven books in the series. Several years have passed but old familiar characters are back as well as new ones, blending comfort with energy and spunk. Young people are now mature adults with children of their own. Historical details harkening to real events are interesting additions to the 1950s feel and descriptions. Rosie Clarke writes about great sorrow, young and older love, perseverance, dreams and hope. She includes unexpected twists and turns, too.

At this stage, Maureen and Peggy have endured great trials and joys. Maureen's family experiences matters of the heart. Her stepdaughter Shirley is passionate about helping disadvantaged people, finds trouble but also courage. Peggy's granddaughter Maggie and friend Fay have a plan...and they pursue it with fabulous results. Marriages are imperfect. But tragedy has an interesting way of changing people. All characters must trust and rely on each other.

Though it sounds trite, this is a very comfy and homey book with oodles of charm. The reader follows the ordinary (and extraordinary) days of several characters over the span of several months. I like that the story is not all roses but also the thorns, just as in real life.

If you haven't had the pleasure of reading the refreshing Mulberry series, you are missing out!

My sincere thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the privilege of reading this lovely book.

This book is the 8th instalment of the Mulberry Lane series, and for complete transparency, I haven't read the previous 7 books within this series. That said, I was able to follow and enjoy the storyline without having read the whole series. I've read through some reviews for this book that do recommend that the whole series is read in order to fully understand all of the characters and their story, however in this instance it wasn't empirical that they were all read. I was able to get a good understanding of the characters from only what I read in this book and found it enjoyable regardless.

This book felt really homely and cozy. It's a charming book that made me smile throughout. Nothing overly drastic happens throughout the book, it's just one of those books that follows the life of the characters throughout their day to day life - my favourite kind of book!

This is one of the first books I've read that's been set post-WWII in the years following the end of the war and it's a period of time I've always been really interested in. Having read this book, I'd really love to go back and read the previous books in the series in order to really get a feel for what all of the characters have been through throughout their lives. I really enjoyed Rosie Clarke's style of writing, that cannot be faulted! All in all, I really enjoyed this book.

A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke is a great historical fiction saga that is the eighth book in the excellent Mulberry Lane series.

I have now read all eight books and it is great to be to able to find out what is happening next with the friends, family, and small sub-community centering around Mulberry Lane in London. This book takes us to 1958 and the gang is still recovering from the War.

We get to visit Peggy and Able along with their kids and grandkids. We also get to catch up with Maureen, Gordon, Ruby, and their lives. Of course there are friends Tom and Rose, and I could go on. As always, there are ups and downs, obstacles and triumphs. But as we have also seen in the past, this group sticks together and is there for one another through the good times and bad, and come out in the end optimistic and better for it.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, and look forward to the next book to see what happens next.

5/5 stars

A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke is a marvellous historical novel set in 1958. It is the eighth book in the Mulberry Lane series but can be read as a stand-alone. This was my first trip to Mulberry Lane and I loved it. The background to all the characters was given.
There are two main families, and as with all families at that time, they had both been touched by losses in World War II.
The off-spring are beginning to find their feet as we witness the hopes and dreams of the young adults.
There are hearts that are philanthropic as they want to make a difference. Position and wealth are not their motivating factors, the need that they identify is. Kind hearts see the poor and the marginalised, treating them with kindness and compassion, without thought of personal safety.
Family businesses are being passed down to the next generation who have plans to modernise.
We witness medical professionals who are on the dawn of a new era of medical advances.
There is the sense of community which characters have developed over the years as people look out for each other.
I very much enjoyed my trip to Mulberry Lane and am looking forward to subsequent visits.
I received a free copy from Rachel’s Random Resources via Net Galley. A favourable review was not required. All opinions are my own.

A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane by Rosie Clarke

New Ideas,A New Job and A New Romance!!

A New Dawn Over Mulberry Lane is Book 8 in the Mulberry Lane Series, this book can be read as a standalone novel. This story focuses on Dr Shirley,Maggie,Freddie,Fay and Jon,Peggy and Maureen’s Children and grandchildren.

My favourite character are Maggie and Freddie, they both seem to know what they want from life and want to work hard to get it.All the characters are very believable and like the fact the author has continued the story of Mulberry Lane now using the younger characters. The only character I took a dislike to was Jon,I thought he was quite devious even though he was only a child
My favourite storyline in the book was involving Dr Shirley her career,I’m looking forward to reading further books to see her story continue

All the characters featured prominently in the book with their own storylines entwined together.

I didn’t find anything about this book disagreeable, both the story and the characters were well developed and I look forward to reading more books in the series

I have really enjoyed this series, I love the amount of research that Rosie Clarke has done and the characters are, on The whole, really interesting and enjoyable to follow. I am currently working in the East End and always trying to figure out where Mulberry lane is!

One quite big criticism I had of this book is that the author seems to have forgotten some characters from the previous book, which I found very unsettling when starting to read. In 'Stormy Days' Maureen and Gordon had a second son called Matty but he had suddenly disappeared in this book. Janet's son's name had changed from Rory to Jon with no explanation. Tom and Rose also had a 3rd child in the previous book and this was forgotten at the start of a new dawn, although they hardly appear anyway.

I find some of the plots aren't always followed through in a very detailed way or they're sort of brushed over and any bad guy is generally dealt with by killing them off after a couple of chapters -

however on the whole I have thoroughly enjoyed this series and have opened my kindle whenever I had a spare minute to read more.

I look forward to trying Rosie Clarke's other series.

I very much enjoyed Rosie Clarke’s new addition to the Mulberry Lane series. The author draws us in quickly to the families of Peggy and Maureen as well as their children, and there are joys and dramas aplenty. Maureen’s husband Gordon faces health challenges while her physician stepdaughter Shirley is drawn into both community work for the poor, and a budding romance. As well, Peggy’s granddaughter Maggie and daughter Fay evince interest in culinary pursuits and plan for future changes at the Pig & Whistle.

What I enjoy most about Ms. Clarke’s books is the warm sense of family, friendship and generosity of spirit throughout life crises and challenges. My thanks to #Netgalley and @Boldwood books for an advance copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I’ve loved every book in the Mulberry Lane series it’s been like catching up with old friends as I’ve read them. All the usual characters are in this book, but they concentrate on what’s going on in the lives of the characters children and grandchildren this time. It’s lovely to see the community start to prosper after all the struggles of the war years. I highly recommend this whole series a fabulous read. Well done Rosie they’re all such great characters. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a emotion read it set in 1958 after the war. It’s based around two families as they are starting to grow after the war. I felt a real sense of community that pulled together and help built back up.I did not know this was the eight book in this series so I guess I can say it is also a standalone although I would recommend reading them in order. This was my first trip down Mulberry Lane and I can tell this is a series and author I will be looking out for. #blogtour

Great book/series

I absolutely loved all these books. And all the characters.are wonderful. It would be great for another book....there are years to go in all their lives. If you like homefront W W 2 books and the aftermath for the victors. These books are for you but, even a while after the war there were stuggles to overcome. I love the year of this book....the year I was born. I highly recommend these books and the author.

Feeling let down!

Two major things in this book. First, Maggie's friend, Keith. His brother died while defusing an unexploded bomb, so they couldn't have worked together in Africa. Second; did Shirley's youngest brother, Matty, just disappear? I am not sure if this is on the author or her editors, but it makes me wonder about an other series of hers. Especially since the same thing happened in another series of hers I read.

This is the 8th book in this series and I just loved being back in Mulberry Lane with all the characters. I have grown to love everyone in the series and I am so invested in their lives. I really enjoyed this book and going back into this world is just a comfort to me. Can’t wait to carry on with the series!
