When a forest is cut down, the consequences are more than anyone could have anticipated. A Forest is an simple and powerful environmental parable from an extraordinary new talent.
2.5 stars. Really nice illustrations but a lacking storyline. The city that was meant to be dirty with pollution was depicted in lovely bright colours, the pollution was shown in green water colour which actually looked beautiful so was quite confusing. The story told me little more than when people came pollution caused a big flood an then nature recovered.
Another book bought for my tree year old granddaughter, this book is beautifully illustrated. It tells the tale of a forest. In the forest are many trees, until people come along and chop them down. At first it is only a few trees, then more and more... until eventually there is only one tree left of the original forest. But from that one remaining tree gradually grows ... a new forest. This is a good book for illustrating the consequences of human greed for natural resources.
A beautiful book, with exquisite water colour and what I could describe as felt pen art. A forest grows for thousands of years, and then people begin to take from it. Initially they take only what they need, but eventually they become greedy and obliterate the whole forest for factories and cities. Eventually the smog is so thick it causes a huge flood and the city is no more. One lone tree survives and becomes many and once again, over time there is a forest. My 4 year old, loved this book and really understood the simple yet extremely important message of conservation. We picked this up at our local library and feel like we need a copy of our own.
Umm. Hmm, I remember this one from when it was new. It came up on a eco-fiction book list so I watched a YouTube flip-through of it. I think it's an Australian author? I remember a colleague commenting she wanted a skirt in the pattern of the book cover. It's very pretty - a unique eye-catching illustration style...but for my purposes, it seems to have more a biblical than eco vibe.
A flourishing forest is cut down becoming a city so polluted that a storm blows it away leaving one tree which becomes a flourishing forest. Umm, not sure about the message there. And for starters, the forest is made up of European trees, cacti, all sorts mixed together, which somehow also has a biblical vibe - or like, multiculturalism but with forests? So, we let the polluted city destroy nature until the city is destroyed and there is a blank slate, and the forest regrows. It's like a video game.
Anyhow, just reviewing it because it was on the list of Aussie Environmental-themed fiction from Penguin which it probably shouldn't be. Link here: https://www.penguin.com.au/books/list...
*Giving 3 stars because it's pretty, well-presented, I remembered it, and it is well-written. Just the message is a bit dazed and confused.
Banyak yg bilang ceritanya mirip Loraxnya dr.seuss, tapi memang iya sih dipikir2 soalnya sama2 environya hehehe
A forest by Marc Martin immediately captured my attention with the creatively painted forest on the front cover.
The tiny trees that envelop the front cover , each one completely different from each other, have been drawn with water colours, texta, pencil and ink.
A forest tells a story through simple words and captivating pictures about a forest being destroyed due to human greed but then growing again through human care. A true story of hope and empowerment.
I loved reading this story to my children and they enjoyed listening and looking at the illustrations. It is a poignant story and one which helps to grow awareness of the importance of the natural world just outside out doorstep.
It’s a brave story with tender words and memorable images. It’s a must read for anyone who loves a good picture book with a message of hope.
Great book. Just read Dr. Seuss The Lorax and then read this book without even knowing what it was about! Amazing coincidence there, they are the same book 40 years apart. And yet, we have learnt nothing! Really enjoyed this story, illustrations style is great too
I loved the watercolor illustrations so much in this one. This book tells the story of a thriving forest that is cut down and replaced with a big city. A big storm comes and washes away the city and leaves behind a single tree that grows into a forest again.
Une histoire assez classique expliquant les conséquences de la surexploitation des forêts... mais quelque part la fin prétend que le problème se règle tout seul et je ne suis pas convaincue que ça soit pertinent
A cute The Lorax kind of story. My class cheered when the forest renewed itself but I think some of the subtlety and timescale was lost on them. If only real life ecological problems could be solved so simply.
