Today’s post is on Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty, Vol. 5 by Megumi Morino. It is 192 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. The cover has Shizu smiling into the sunlight on it. As is the fifth in the series you need to have read the first four volumes in the series to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes intense, family dramas with some romance on the side. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this series. The story is told from third person of the main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

Every moment spent with friends who care has gradually brought Shizu Karasawa out of her shell. So when her father plots to isolate her in a hospital, Tetsu has no choice but to take Shizu and run. With no place left to go, the two head to the beach where Tetsu's maternal grandfather runs a lodge. But Tetsu's rash decision dredges up a former tragedy that could tear his family apart, and even drive Shizu away… When the Karasawa family's fraught relationships catch up to her, a surprising enemy may become Shizu's most-needed advocate.
Review- This is a very emotional volume with Shizu and Tetsu trying to figure out what to do next. Shizu’s mother is trying to reach out to her daughter but she is afraid of doing something worse to Shizu. Then you add in Shizu’s father who only wants Shizu’s mother to be happy no matter the cost. Some of the family ties are explained and who one of the ghosts that helps Shizu is, that is the big reveal in this volume. Shizu and Tetsu are still unsure of themselves and each other but Shizu is getting stronger and the ghosts can possess her for shorter and shorter times. I think that Tetsu has something to do with that. I am looking forward to how this series is going to wrap up.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Nous voici déjà arrivés au cinquième et avant-dernier tome de cette série très originale ! Je suis triste devoir bientôt quitter tous ces merveilleux personnages....
Après leur fugue, Shizu et Tetsu se réfugient chez le grand-père de ce dernier. Ce sera l'occasion de faire de nouvelles découvertes et de mettre la situation à plat entre Tetsu et Haru qui vivent une véritable relation père/ fils au travers de Shizu. Et, la relation entre Shizu et Tetsu franchit un nouveau cap. Shizu, elle, ne cesse d'évoluer et c'est ce qui fait la saveur de cette série !
De plus, les raisons pour lesquelles Tetsu a décidé de tout plaquer pour travailler nous sont enfin révélées. Il faut dire que ce tome est emplit de révélations et de rebondissements en tous genres : c'est un tome très fort en émotions...
On a ici l'occasion d'en apprendre plus sur l'amitié entre Sanae et Akira et les liens qui unissent les deux familles. Sanae, la mère de Shizu, est un personnage qu'on apprend à mieux comprendre : elle est freinée par sa peur de ne pas savoir à qui elle parle quand elle a sa fille devant les yeux.
Sans oublier l'histoire de Sanae et Takashi qui permet de mieux comprendre le père de Shizu et les raisons qui le poussent à faire ce qu'il a fait à sa propre fille (isolement, etc...), bien que son comportement reste inacceptable...
Avec ce tome, on sent que le dénouement de l'intrigue n'est plus très loin. Je suis tout à la fois triste et heureuse que le prochain tome soit le dernier. Mais je suis surtout triste de quitter tous ces beaux personnages.

I pretty much read dive into this series blindly, the synopsis is interesting but I didn’t expect it to be a lil on heavier side, heartwarming and heart-touching with a lil occult aspect. A lil content warning there’s 1-2 scene of physical abuse and some emotional abuse (neglect) in the series. I like how the relatable the ml is, he’s scared of occult stuff and reacted like how most people would but he try his best to handle it better and understand how others feels. He’s so caring, reliable, and emotionally strong, he’s expressive and empathetic but he’s most definitely not a pushover. I kinda sad for the fl because of her condition she’s being neglected by her own parents, think of her like Rapunzel, sure they provided her with basic necessity but none emotionally. I’m just glad she has kind souls that surrounded and try to protect, help, and encourage her to learn how to be herself. I’m glad to see the growth of not only the ml & fl but also the supporting characters. I thoroughly enjoy this series, it warms my heart.
Just in case, prepare some tissue when you read this book, especially on the later volume.

Ahhhh my heartttt!! Suka bangettt di buku ke-5 ini, karakter tokoh2nya berkembang jauh dari di awal. Awalnya Tetsu digambarkan sebagai anak muda yg gila uang, buku tabungan dicium dan dibawa kemana-mana, sekarang jadi tau bahwa dari awal tuh dia udah suka ama Shizu, love at first sight katanya, makanya mau bantu Shizu to be a human. Akhirnya Tetsu sadar bahwa uang tuh bukan segalanya, bahwa dia memang tulus bantuin Shizu, uang itu cuma bonus aja.
Shizu juga jadi sadar bahwa dia manusia, punya hati, perasaan, ga menyerah dan meremehkan kematian, bahwa hidup itu indah kalo dilihat with your own eyes.

Tetsu huyó con Shizu para que el padre no la vuelva a ingresar en un hospital, esto hace que el padre de Tetsu vaya en busca de su hijo para solucionar todo, pero aquí se darán cuenta de el por qué Tetsu dejó el fútbol y no quiere ir a la universidad, la realidad de sus trabajos y el por qué estaba intentando de todas las maneras posibles conseguir dinero.
Es un punto de inflexión para la familia empiece a actuar de una manera más unida y sin secretos.
La madre de Shizu también va en su busca, aquí ambas empiezan a aceptarse, pero hay algo más, alguien que conoce a la madre de Shizu tiene unas palabras para ella a través de esta.

Con este tomo tengo sentimientos contradictorios. Me gusta la evolución que muestran ambos protagonistas, como por fin luchan por lo que quieren y sienten. Pero a la vez no me aporta nada a la historia.
Nos revelan quien es en realidad una de las múltiples personalidades que hay en Shizu, pero a mi personalmente esa revelación me da igual. Siento que no influye directamente en la historia, simplemente es para hacerlo "bonito".
Si que hay varios detalles buenos y que sí me han gustado. Pero en general, un tomo sin más. Quiero ver como resuelven al final y si de una vez hay "romance".

So I had sorta forgotten I hadn’t finished this series 😅. I thought this was the last volume and I had finished it, but I was wrong on both counts. I really enjoyed this and seeing some things finally explained (like why Tetsu quit soccer) along with getting to learn more about the side characters like the parents and grandfather. Just one more volume to go in a surprisingly good series that I think really can be seen as a vehicle for how mental illness is treated in Japan by many (even if what Shisu has isn’t actually a mental illness).

This series just keeps getting better, or I’m just more attached to it then at the beginning. Wake Up, Sleeping Beauty Volume 5 is also a new favorite of mine. I love the backstories we got, and the relationships between the characters that we get to see unfold more in this volume. We also get a fair share of revelations in this volume as well. Maybe Shizu’s father isn’t that bad…but I guess we’ll see.

Esse volume foi a própria novela indiana, sem or quanto drama, não tive um minuto pra respirar. Até agora da pra dizer que a Shizu teve sua maior evolução, assim, como mãe dela que finalmente aceitou sua filha, e a partir de agora vai cumprir seu papel como mãe. No final aconteceu a mesma coisa com o pai dela, mas eu acho que vai ser mais difícil pra ele aceitar toda essa situação, porque ele é mais um exemplo de pai ausente que só ama a mulher e não ama os filhos.

I’m glad that the suspense leading up to this volume had a positive ending, but damn did things give me anxiety. The last 2 or 3 pages of this volume make me very worried in terms of the spirits that are able to possess Shizu. Also, all of the bonus/extra chapters (or pages) in this volume were adorable.

That plot twist tho! Even tho I was wondering if it could happen later on, I totally overlooked the fact that it might've already happened! Ah, I was close, but also not.

This is such an enjoyable series. I look forward to the end (the next volume) but there is excellent character development in this volume (and a possible shocking revelation).

Tiene mucho sentimiento de superación, de crecimiento y me encanta la evolución de Shizu, Tetsu y la madre de Shizu tengo muchas ganas de saber como va a acabar esta serie.

Ce tome s'avère pour le moins riche. De tomes en tomes, on voit que tout va de plus en plus loin, la série gagne ainsi en profondeur, ce que je suis loin de regretter. Il se passe pas mal de choses, des situations se précisent, on sent qu'on arrive bientôt au bout du chemin. De plus en plus de personnages s'intègrent aux côtés de nos héros, des personnages qui gagnent eux aussi en attrait. L'atmosphère du manga se réchauffe et si tout n'est pas toujours au beau fixe, il y a du mieux ou au moins des tentatives pour que ça aille mieux.
