Interesting that the volume titled Crisis on Infinite Earths: Justice League doesn’t have a single issue of Justice League of America included. Nope, you’ll have to go to Crisis on Infinite Earths: Infinity Inc. or Crisis on Infinite Earths: Superman for those. Only at DC, only DC.

The Fury of Firestorm #41 & 42 - I’ve never been a reader of this particular title, and I don’t think it would have had a chance of pulling me in with this. Uninteresting and rather pandering. The second of these issues was more interesting. The focus is on Firehawk and Wonder Girl looking for loved ones lost during the Crisis. It also features an appearance by Tomahawk from the US Revolutionary War period (don’t ask, blame the Crisis, it’s just too complicated). But this is a good example of how to tie-in an ongoing title with these crossover events. Take a quick time out, tell some character centric story that is not really part of the main ongoing narrative, but that helps flesh out some character details. Too bad other writers couldn’t have gotten this idea and done something similar.

Detective Comics #558 - One of the few Crisis tie-ins I actually read while it was published. And reading it again reminded me that there was a very different Jason Todd pre-Crisis than there was post-crisis. But this is still a shining example of an author, Doug Moench, who’s able to work a little bit of the bigger picture crossover into his ongoing story with little effort. And the art by Gene Colan is as beautiful as ever.

Wonder Woman #327-329 - More chaotic nonsensical mess. I get that there was a new writer coming aboard to wrap things up, but this is still hard to follow. And the big final issue of Wonder Woman’s series feels horribly anticlimactic. Like the whole thing is just a Crisis afterthought. Nothing really feels like a resolution or wrap-up, other than Diana and Steve getting married. But their Earth-2 counterparts had already done that, so again, this just felt an afterthought: Oh yeah, and they got married. These three issues are enormously disappointing for the end of an iconic character’s climax.

The New Teen Titans (Series 2) #13 & 14 - I’ve read these two previously, as I was already reading this title when Crisis on Infinite Earths was originally being published. Nothing particularly noteworthy here, but they do tie directly and seamlessly into events from the Crisis miniseries. Which makes perfect sense as they have the same author.

Unfortunately, much of this volume, like most of the Crisis tie-in material, is pretty lame. This was early in the realization of these crossover events, and it shows, but had more writers really embraced the whole thing more creatively, they could have been much more successful.

I liked these stories better than some of the other tie-ins to the main series. I especially enjoyed the final issue of the first volume of Wonder Woman and the emotion of the two Teen Titans issues. Solid artwork and page layout throughout.

The New Teen Titans (Series 2).
La edición hardcover es preciosa, aunque los tomos individuales no tengan ISBN propio.
