ALESSA (Ghost)

Maverick’s in love with a dead man buried at Arlington National Cemetery, where his heart might as well be buried too. My husband’s stuck in the past, lost in his fractured mind, and the last ten years are a blur to him, meaning I’m a blur to him.

But I’m not a ghost. I’m a woman. I’m alive. I breathe. I hurt.

Should I let go or hold on?

My instinct is to let go, but I have family now. People who matter to me. A posse I’ll kill for.

I’m no longer nothing, I’m something.

I’m a Sinner.

And I’ve found my ride and die… now I just have to get him to remember me.

Impossible?

I’ve beaten worse odds and survived.

Game on, Maverick. Game on.

MAVERICK is the sixth book in the eleven-book ‘A Dark & Dirty Sinners’ MC’ series.

Loved finally getting Maverick's story. I am gonna be honest though... I would have liked for him to end up with a man (with him being bi and all), especially now that I know so much more about his background.

That is not because I didn't like Alessa. She is so strong and a force to be reckoned with... but.. I am still an avid MM reader and I would have loved one of those in this series. I am probably in the minority, but I don't give a rat's ass. Maverick and his ex sounded so freaking sweet together...

Maga Trump GIF - Maga Trump YouCantAlwaysGetWhatYouWant - Discover & Share GIFs

Anyways, that is not how the story goes and when we closed the previous book, Mav was very much into Ghost (Alessa). He was also in a wheelchair, but after being crushed by a building... things are quite different for Mav. For one... he seems to be able to walk. For two, he has severe memory loss and has gone back in time..

He wasn't as close with his brothers back then and he actually hated Lodestar (damn but I love that chick!!) As far as Ghost goes... who the fuck is Ghost!!

Cant remember to forget you GIF - Find on GIFER

So yeah, I can imagine her heart being crushed, but hey, she is one of the strongest women I have ever come across and so she is determined to stand by his side... even when he does acht like a mayor dick.

You Asshole GIFs | Tenor

A very enjoyable read but I am gonna say it again... I can't wait for Rachel en Lodestar's stories... I am sure their stories will be epic!!

This is a first-time author for me, and we really enjoyed our first read by them. I thought this story had wonderful character and the old ladies of this story were the bomb. I have never laughed so hard as I did with the antic's of these old ladies but, loved that they considered themselves Sinners and sometimes only the bitches could handle Sinner business. lol

Maverick and Ghost's story is not an easy one and it was messy and sad and heartfelt and goes straight to the heart for the lives lost and the damage that was done and how it has affected Maverick long term being that he was a soldier and his dedication and commitment to his country's safety.

Maverick was a bit of a d*** most of the time but, his demeanor as so forth starts to make sense as the story processes but, in the interim, he is causing heart-wrenching pain to Alessa/Ghost and the woman has suffered enough. We wanted to hate Maverick for the angst he caused but, it was impossible because he was a wonderful guy with awesome skills, and he loved his wife and brothers with everything he had. Loved his alpha-ness, protectiveness, possessiveness it was hot, hot, hot.

Alessa's story just tore out my heart and her past was riddled with pain and sorrow and suffered unspeakable things but, we get to see her flourish before our eyes, and we loved what we saw. I loved how she stood by Maverick through all his up and downs and for what she will have to endure being with him but, it just showed us how strong she really was that she was a survivor too and loyal to a fault not only to her husband and that of his family.

I really loved this story from beginning to the end it was filled with suspense and drama and the heartache had a continuing mystery that needed solving and was full of angst and had wonderful characters that you could not help but, fall in love with. My nose was stuck in the book from beginning to end I couldn't put it down from the moment it drew me in for the very first chapter.

Well played Serena Akeroyd as per your warning at the start of Mavericks story I did indeed want to throw my Kindle at the wall on more than one occasion especially at the end how could you! (and I am not talking about the epilogue). Every book in this series has left me wanting more of the Dark and Dirty Sinners' MC not just the men that make up the MC but the Ole Ladies as well.

What I love about this book as indeed with the rest of the series is that each book doesn't just focus on the main characters we still continue to be emerged in the other members lives; it is what will keep you as me coming back for more.

We already known Maverick and Ghost (Alessa) from previous books. Maverick was a Green Beret after being hurt in action some 10 years ago he came home to the MC and has been in a wheel chair ever since. Ghost was rescued by the MC from a slave sex ring. I am not giving anything away here as this is previous history. From the moment they meet something inside each of them called to the other. To help keep Alessa in the US in the last book Maverick and Alessa got married but when the last book ended on a Cliff Hanger when the Compound was bombed Maverick was caught up in the blast and although now can walk again his short term memory is gone.
"Fate. That was Maverick and me. We were fated to love and to hurt and to lose and to remember. To endure...that was our destiny."

Maverick and Alessa's story is heartbreaking in places when you realise what Maverick went through in the service not only the pain and loss but the physical and mental scars that are still a big of part of him and now Alessa is feeling as if she has lost the one person that kept her safe her pain, suffering and loss no less then his just different.

But with Maverick's demons surfacing Alessa is now coming out of the shadows and becoming the strong woman that has been hidden for so long. Maverick and Alessa have to get to know each other again within the backdrop of a new threat to the club one that could be even worse than the last.

I loved how Alessa blossomed in this book and finally could take her rightful place with the other Woman of the MC.

And the one thing that made this story that little bit special? The conversation between all the Ole Ladies when they each explain what their men mean to them and make them feel - just beautifully articulated that gave me that swoon feeling! Well Done Serena Akeroyd.

This woman can spin a tale people! I was riveted from beginning to end. I felt like I myself had skin in the game with this one. That is how captivated and focused I was. Even when this story was too much I couldn’t stop reading. It consumed me. They consumed me. I am in awe! The road that Maverick and Alessa had to travel to regain control of their lives was an uphill climb full of heartbreak and hope. The heartbreak mostly for me. MY GAWD, these two own my heart and soul. Serena Akeroyd has written a story not only for them, but for the Dark and Dirty Sinners MC that is fire.

This is not a book you can just pick up and read. First, it’s not a standalone. Not even a little. Second and most importantly, you have to be ready for the story. I can’t tell you much more about that without giving away plot points so just #trust If you’re ready for this story, it will blow your mind!

Ghost is trying her best to be there for Mav but it’s really hard when he doesn’t know who she is. He doesn’t remember his wife but keeps calling for Nic. Maverick thinks he is just back from war. Everything is upside down and everyone looks older. This book is fantastic. Excellent storyline with so many ups and downs. A must read.

~~~~~~~~~~Tracy's ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review~~~~~~~~~~
The aftermath of the explosion at the MC clubhouse left several people dead and Maverick believes he is 10 years in the past. Ghost must learn how to be Maverick's wife when he doesn't remember her all the while the MC is trying to figure what happened and who is targeting them. I loved seeing the evolution of Ghost to Alessa. I loved this book and Maverick's story broke my heart. I love how with every book I learn more about the members in the MC family.
There are no words to describe how absolutely amazing this book is. The best yet, as far as I'm concerned. This book pulverized my heart, ripped it right out, then mended it to be stronger than it was before. Alessa and Maverick's story is one for the ages. Full of the most difficult challenges one could face, and the absolute devotion and love that refuses to balk at the broken pieces. While we defintely learned plenty of new clues in the overarching storyline, this story was about healing, accepting the dark and broken, and loving in spite of it all. It was a beautiful, emotional rollercoaster and I loved every single second of it. It's next level writing. The twists, turns, and different POVs are exceptional, and the writing is astonishing. An inspirational story through and through.
How I didn't die a thousand deaths during this book, I have no idea! I wanted to throw my kindle about 60 times. I cried, I laughed, I got angry. I went through ALL OF IT! Mav snuck his way into my all time fave characters. This series is gonna be the death of me! Serena is a freaking genius with the meanest cliff hangers LOL. Cannot wait for all these mysteries to be unveiled.
𝗠𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸 is the 6th installment in the 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀' 𝗠𝗖 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 and is not a standalone. This is an ongoing series and picks up right where we left off. The series begins with Nyx and I highly recommend it.
Getting caught up in the Satan’s Sinners MC and the Five Points Mob Crossover has been book utopia for weeks on end. You could sit back, relax, and get lost in this engrossing series full of unique characters and powerful stories. Serena has such a unique writing style and is, in my opinion, freaking brilliant for being able to build this world full of diverse characters and mind-blowing plots. The more you read, the more secrets you uncover and it’s delicious! This has been such an amazing series to get lost in.
This is Maverick and Ghost (Alessa)’s story. As with each book in the series, every character has a voice. I did not expect Maverick’s story to be so heart wrenching. His past takes over when after the blast, he wakes up with no recollection of the last several years on the compound. Worst of all, Ghost is left wondering where she fits in now that the man that she married doesn’t remember her at all and can’t seem to get over the memories of his former lover.
We learn more about Ghost (Alessa) and the atrocities her and the other women had to go through. She perseveres and wants to move on from the demons of her past. She is strong and I commend her for being able to handle that horror with grace and courage.
It’s so great to read how although dysfunctional, the MC bands together and ALWAYS have each other’s back. The relationship among the MC is beautiful. I wish I had that type of community support around me. Every story in this series introduces us to a new individual with real issues and a real past. Told in a fun to read way, this series is nothing but pure joy.
This particular book deals with very sensitive topics as Alessa is a former sex slave that was sold into slavery.
THIS is the book that has kept me going, it has been my motivation for chugging through ALL THESE DAMN BOOKS because I loved Ghost and Mav. If you’re this deep in the series (these can’t be read as standalones) you should know what’s going on, but in case you need a refresher here goes.
Ghost/Alessa was one of the three sex slaves that were made aware when Guilia stole Luke’s phone after he tried to rape her (Nyx’s book) and they were rescued in Link’s. Maverick is their tech dude that has terrible scars on his stomach and is in a wheelchair. He was very depressed/withdrawn and the two were slowly healing each other as side characters throughout the previous books. Mav married her so she could get citizenship. After the explosion that took place at the end of Steele’s book, Maverick went back into the compound to try to retrieve something and it collapsed on him, and we learned in the last book that he has partial amnesia and has lost the last ten years. He also apparently used to date Lodestar and some dude Nic… and he can walk.
So, I have to say after waiting for six books for this couple’s story, I was VERY bummed that he forgot her because Ghost has been through enough heartbreak and she deserved happiness. BUT, I was depressed that she had to share her man with an actual ghost and Lodestar.
The Nic part sucked, but at least he was dead. (I mean that in the nicest way possible) I just wish the author would’ve let him fade away, but no, we had to make him like a part of their relationship constantly talking about him.
The Lodestar angle bugged the shit out of me because we’ve never had a whiff that they were anything other than friends (until the last book I think), and now she’s all gooey eyed reminiscing about him, and he refers to her as his ex when he’s NEVER done that with his POV… and we have this…
“What’s wrong?” The deep voice still had the power to send shivers down my spine…
I remembered us at a rave in goddamn Prague, slipping and sliding against each other because it was so fucking hot in that club. For all she’d been grinding on me, I’d ground my dick into her just as much… Good times.
“You and I both know how possessive you are. You loved me.
“When my head is at, we only just broke up.” “You were together?” “For quite a while.
“She knows you mean a lot to me, Star,” I countered.
I only registered because I’d seen this woman in all kinds of states. Orgasming, crying with laughter, sobbing with tears over fucking puppies in a commercial, …
It added nothing to the plot because Alessa and Mav never discussed it (other than one sentence that acknowledges she’s jealous), and Mav and Star never had a real conversation, so we’re left with these uncomfortable tidbits that serve no purpose other than the reader to know they had a relationship, and on some level Lodestar is still attracted to him... and that Alessa will have to deal with them hanging out all the time. I hated it. Later he tells her he still loves her, and she says she loves him too, and she knows they have a sibling love, but siblings don’t get shivers from the other’s voices or reminisce about boning them. 🙄
The Good
✅ Alessa, I loved her. I felt like she gave way too much with the Nic situation, but she was still a great h. Just as strong as any of them, and she wasn’t a bitch or abrasive, so many times authors get this wrong by portraying all “strong h’s” as prickly argumentative tough girls, Alessa was just right. Women are resilient and can do it while still being pleasant to be around. :)
✅ “Some crimes deserve different punishments.” She tipped her chin up. “This is bitches’ business.” 😁 Loved the posse times.
The Not-so Good
❌Scenes are choppy- For example in Cruz’s book Nyx comes in with his phone because Cammie is calling and Indy ends up telling him her secret. Then we are 23% into this book when the scene picks back up from Nyx’s POV that’s tough to follow.
❌ So much sniffing, the characters are all constantly sniffing like in a huff.
❌ The plot is messy. There’s so much in this book sandwich that stuff is falling out everywhere making a mess.
For example,
If Mav and Lodestar only just broken up ten years ago (when he thinks he woke up) where did he have the time to develop this soulmate, once in a lifetime love with Nic?
Are we supposed to know what is going on with ACooooig and Lodestar? Who is this person? I’m assuming this is a crossover from another series, but we’re just dumped in the middle of it.
If that drive was so important that Mav got crushed under a building, why isn’t he asking anyone if they have it? Wouldn’t you make sure it was somewhere? Why bring it up if you’re just going to drop it?
Why is no one following up with Keira if they think HER DAUGHTER IS BEING GROOMED? Why is no one following up with Cyan? They have Tiffany, the pretend therapist, that should be right up her alley. This is a mc that hunts pedophiles filled with old ladies that have all either been raped or attempted raped, but they’re just going to threaten the dude and call it good?
Bottom Line- It was just ok for me. I’m glad Ghost found her HEA in Alessa and Maverick, and I do think he loves her, I just wish he was all hers. The epilogue was cute.
I’ve been waiting for Ghost and Mavericks story with bated breath and it definitely didn’t disappoint. Ghost/ Alessa is one of the women rescued from the underground prison and liberated from her life as a slave by the MC. Her story is absolutely tragic so totally heartbreaking and we have observed over the series as she has managed to find comfort in an unlikely place building a bond with maverick one forged on mutual trust and growing feelings. He just gets her having triggers and traumas in his own past that he is still living with to this day.
A former green beret special ops soldier he returned from active combat in a wheelchair confined to the clubhouse by his own limitations and personal trauma. He’s the club treasurer and until Ghost entered his life he was just going through the motions her arrival finally giving him something to live for and together they have helped heal each other.
After the bomb that took out the compound maverick finds himself flung back in time with no memories of the past ten years. He doesn’t recognise his wife Ghost she is now a stranger to him and he is still hung up on his former commander Nic. On top of that, he is now able to walk something he's obviously been hiding from everyone. He’s really not that nice to poor Ghost being a total tosser and Ghost is obviously heartbroken thinking she may have lost the man she now realises she loves. But this situation also gives her the chance to leave the old Ghost behind and become just Alessa the woman she was always meant to be before her potential was stolen away from her.
This deals heavily with PTSD and CTE which is a form of traumatic brain injury and the implications were heavily explored here. it was so bittersweet that maverick could regress at any time forgetting his wife again but Alessa loves and was willing and wanting to stand by him anyway.
This was such a great addition to the series and there was so much going on here that enhanced and added to the overall action. I’m loving the bitches posse and what the old ladies all add to the sinner's MC. We also get lots of answers here which was great and that epilogue man how could I not jump right into it so good spoilers and all. I loved the snapshot into the future so much this one really was fabulous.
Maverick is the latest installment in story of the Satan’s Sinners MC that Serena Akeroyd continues to create. It is simply brilliant - raw, emotional, action-packed, triggering at times, heartbreaking, and always heartfelt - and just simply brilliant! I loved this book!
We pick up where Cruz leaves off. The Satan’s Sinners have been dealt a devastating blow. They’re all rattled, angry, hurt, and grieving. Amidst that chaos, we focus on Maverick and Ghost, whose relationship takes a detour.
Maverick has been injured and that leads to them getting derailed. I feel like the old Maverick had been so guarded that it’s like we’re getting to know a whole new different character. I feel like we are also getting to know Ghost as she reacquaints who she currently is with who she used to be and is on the way to becoming who she wants to be - the new Alessa.
Seeing them fall in love again is like having an alternate ending to life. It was like navigating through all the what ifs and getting a glimpse at what could have been. And yet, it was also as if that alternate reality influenced and shaped the current one. At one point, Alessa says, “I was a blank slate to him. A canvas that had yet to be painted.” And in some ways, I think Maverick was like that for her too.
It’s like the events at the end of Cruz - those that led to the situation Ghost and Maverick find themselves in - led them to begin a journey where they now had to find a way back to each other. This journey of healing isn’t just for Maverick and Ghost. All the Sinners (and their women) are on their own roads down this path, as are Lodestar and Katina.
I’m not going to say this journey doesn’t have its bumps in the road - you know those unmarked speed bumps that are made to blend in with road, the ones you don’t always see until it’s too late and you either come to a hard stop or you end up going over them and scraping your undercarriage, yeah those - and when you hit them, you might just want throw your book or Kindle. Don’t. Keep reading.
In the end, it’s how Alessa describes their journey that resonates the most with me. She says, “We were fated to love and to hurt and to lose and to remember. To endure… that was our destiny.”
While on this road, we learn more about the past, murders, secret organizations, how entangled the Sinners are with the Five Points (check out the Filthy Feckers series) and so much more. Oh...and I’m definitely joining Giulia’s Posse!
I will say it again. I loved this book! I love this series and all it’s brilliantly developed characters, it’s intriguing mystery, and it’s incredible love stories!
First of all, who do you think you are writing a book like this?! I was not expecting this wonderful book. Please don't get me wrong, I don't hop into books expecting them to be bad or anything, but this was more than just an MC book. I have never read a book by Serena Akeroyd and I am officially hooked! I did not read the books prior to Maverick, literally about to do that once I finish typing this. Also, did not know the Filthy series is linked in and that is awesome, going to read those as well in the suggested order. Let me start this review with I almost cried happy and sad tears during the last few chapters for a bunch of reasons, I will expect answer ma'am! You know what I'm talking about.
So MC book, hot AF sex scenes, drama/mystery/suspense, mixed in with a some heart break for good measure. Hot damn! The heartache I felt for the characters right when I jumped in this book was insane. Was not expecting to be slapped with it right when I started reading so that was fun to adjust to. In all fairness, it helped prep me for the rest of the heartache I would experience...so thanks?
I loved Maverick and Alessa with all my heart, was rooting them on from the sidelines the entire time and just waiting for the moments I needed to feel better about the previous heart ache. Serena did not disappoint! I loved watching the growth of Alessa, and the growth of Mavericks love for her as she developed into this badass old lady/wifey who was confident in her choices, sure of herself and what she and her husband needed. It was such a beautiful character development moment. Maverick and Alessa have to figure out how to process his medical condition and how they are going to live the rest of their lives with it. I'm getting all smiley thinking of the end again, one of the ways they figured would help and it almost made me cry happy tears.
Can't say a lot or I'll give the plot away, it's all very interwoven together but there are books I am expecting to read from characters that I know need their story told, I can tell just from this one book. Pretty pumped Hawk gets his next, as soon as I read his chapter I was like, "Yup, he needs a book immediately!" Thanks you for this awesome read, I'm so happy to find another MC family I love.
My god this book takes you through the gambit of emotions. Sadness, Joy, Anger, Laughter all of them but at the heart of it is Love, Respect and Family regardless of if your related or not. The thing is that with this book as well as the others in this series you'd happily read it until the very end because you cant help but love these rough but big hearted bikers.
Maverick is no exception. I understand its suppose to be his book but for me Ghost (Alessa) stole the show. Yes Maverick has a big role in it but my heart genuinely felt for Alessa. I loved how she flourished in this book (Especially with all the other old ladies in the Sinners) even with all the drama and the heartache going on around her. Maverick & Alessa was one of the couples id been dying to read about from the very start of this series and their book doesnt disappoint. We also get to find out Mavericks background which i shed a few tears reading it. As i did throughout this book. There was so much happening in this book not just with Alessa & Maverick either. It keeps you on your toes thats for sure. I just cant praise it up enough. Its just that good!!!
This book opens with a warning form the author, Serena Akeroyd, that she can’t be held responsible for damaged Kindles hurled because of the book. Not sure I agree that she is not responsible, but since I read the book anyway, I was at least warned.
I am unabashed in my love of this series, Satan Sinner MC, and this book was amazing. It is my opinion that books, and art in general, should provoke feelings. Good or bad. This book was heartbreaking at points, and it provoked a LOT of feeling. Including the desire to throw my kindle through a window, but alas I was warned.
Ghost and Maverick are amazing. They are both broken, but the journey they take in coping and healing is what makes this story so amazing. If you want a safe, sweet story, then these books are not for you, but if you want something that will push you and cause your to “feel”, then Serena’s books are for you. This universe that she has created gives a voice to so many of us, who are broken, and yet survive, find love and thrive.
I love the multiple POVs. They are getting better and better with each book, laying groundwork and depth to the Satan’s Sinners universe!
I have tried to come up with words to do this beautiful yet eye opening story and I'm going to try.
Maverick is a man who suffers in his head. He is any one who fights for our country and comes back with ghosts in their head. Alessa aka Ghost is a strong woman who also is hurting seeing her love deal with nightmares that haunt awake as well. This couple have been through he** and gives a story that we can respect as well as draw strength from them.
Well written, powerful, tragic, realistic and the kind of book that stays in your head and heart. Maverick earned my respect and it was an honor to read his journey.
Alessa is a woman who leads with her heart and faces things that others might run from but she won't let him fight alone. She's got his back even if he won't remember her. I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review.
In the aftermath of the compound being bombed the Sinners are trying to get their lives back in order. As the Sinners investigate the bombing of the compound a secret organization is unveiled as well as a pedophile.
Alessa was a tortured and broken woman who Maverick helped heal with his love and devotion to the woman he fell in love with and married. Since the bombing the tables have turned. Maverick's memory has thrown him back in time ten years. No recollection of Alessa whatsoever. Being ex military he suffers from PTSD and CTE.
Alessa is heartbroken but she follows her heart. Her love is so strong that she will be there waiting for the day he's back to his old self. She grows in this story. Once shy and afraid she becomes confident and one badazz lady.
Dark and Dirty Sinners is a fabulous series that will have you addicted.
Can't wait for next installment, Hawk!
Serena Akeroyd has seriously outdone herself with Alessa and Maverick’s story! It is a phenomenal story that deals with the real life issues of PTSD and CTE. Their story had me reeling with emotions,right along with the characters. The love, support, and care that Alessa shows Mav is heartwarming. As with the other books in this amazing series, this book contains multiple POV’s, which I love. You not only see the story from the main characters insight, but also from other characters we’ve met along this series’ journey. This is a 100% Must Read and I am so excited to see what comes next in this captivating series.
I have been patiently waiting for Maverick’s story and believe me it was worth the wait. I knew Maverick was going to have one wild story to tell and what a dark and intense story it was. This exceptional story is heart-wrenchingly emotional and such an outstanding read. Maverick and his Ghost broke my heart in this book. The love and commitment shown in this story between all the couples was beautiful. I adore every member of this MC. All the characters are so fascinating and complex. This series has been a fantastic reading experience.
Loved Maverick. The PTSD hits very close to home. I’m so glad that he has Alessa in his life. Their struggle really shook me. This book pulled on my heart strings, and OMG the cliff! Another amazing book by Serena.
Thank you Social ButterflyPr and the author for the arc in exchange of my honest review.
“Until, out of nowhere, I had to feel your hand in mine. Needed to feel your lips grace my cheek. I had to be closer to you—had to, for my own selfish needs.” He shook his head. “You brought me back to life, Alessa. You did. I was a dead man, dying even as I was living. Then you came along and you made me realize what it was to feel again.”
This was such an angsty and all encompassing read. It had action, drama, brotherhood and friendship, and a love so powerful,selfless and one that promises to stand tall amidst every storm. If you're a fan of MC romance you do need to pick this one up, because this book is so much more than just a love story.
This is the 6th book in the series but I read this one first. If you're used to reading MC romance you'll have no trouble navigating through the story. Maverick wakes up in the hospital after a blast hits their club, and infront of him stands a women-his wife apparently, but he has no memory whatsoever and instead his mind is stranded 10years back, holding on to the man who taught him what it means to truly love. Alessa feels her heart shattering into pieces as she stares into the eye of the man she loves, to see him not recognize her fills her with agony. But with a past filled with brutality and horror, she is determined to be patient for her happiness this time, to begin once again and give her life another chance, an opportunity that was snatched away from her forcefully.
The story of Alessa and Maverick is entwined so beautifully and has so much love and tenderness. Alessa is always patient and never pushes Maverick,she undertsands him at a depth that leaves Maverick at awe, she knows him inside out and show him every step of the way the love she harbors for him. She embraces his past and holds him to move into the future. Her story will break you, make you feel her pain and at the same time you'll be cheering for her as she breaks the shackles of her past,embraces her place among the Sinners MC club, creates her own definition of family. She comes out fierce,unstoppable and for once in her life she won't let someone else snatch away the happiness she deserves.
Maverick has a hard time navigating throughout this book. He is helpless in the grasps of PTSD and how it is affecting him. His memories are flickering between the past and the present, but with is brothers at his side and a woman who will go to the worlds end for him, he feel safe and enough. There are so many layers to his character and the author did an amazing job with his storyline.
This story spreads out between the other characters of the sinners' club and we get their POV as well. There's a very strong and engaging plotline along with the story of Maverick and Alessa. You will get hooked to all the action happening. I love it when the romance is very well balanced and mingled with an additcting storyline . This book ticked all the boxes in that regard. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the other books in this series.
Maverick is the 6th book in the Satan's sinners MC series.
This book broke my heart and simultaneously put it back together. Maverick is an ex military guy who has been wheelchair bound for years...or so he lead his MC brothers to believe. When there is an explosion (featured in the previous book - Cruz) and Maverick goes in to investigate he's hit in the head and can't remember the last 10 years. He also doesn't remember that he supposedly can't walk. Nor can he remember the woman he fell in love with, Ghost. The woman he married in order to keep her safe.
Ghost is a character who was sold into sexual slavery. When the Satan's sinners found her (way back in book 2 of this series) she was a whisp of the character she is in this book. She could barely lift her head or speak but after months of recover and having the support of her husband Maverick (who until this point is husband in name only) she starts to grow stronger.
During book 6 the change in Ghost is beautiful and compelling. She fights for Maverick and reclaims her sexuality. She is strong, and capable, determined and passionate, stubborn and feirce. She is able to let go of her title as a victim and become her true self - Alessa. She is no longer the Ghost she started out as.
For the most part Maverick doesn't remember who she is but her strong silent determination and her gentle compassion leave an impression on his broken heart. After all 10 years ago he was with the man who was the love of his life. Nic, a man who has now been dead for years. So, this side of it is heart breaking.
I really loved the support Alessa gets from the MC brothers. They know how much she means to Maverick even though they know he doest know who she is. I love that they do their best to protect her and support her whilst also giving Maverick shit about it all.
I had never heard of CTE before this book.
"Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) is a neurodegenerative disease which causes severe and irreparable brain damage, as a result of repeated head injuries.[1] Symptoms do not typically begin until years after the injuries and can include behavioral problems, mood problems, and problems with thinking.[1][2] The disease often gets worse over time and can result in dementia.[2] It is unclear if the risk of suicide is altered.[1] (Wikipedia 2020)
CTE is what Maverick is diagnosed with. We know that their story won't have the perfect happy ending but it feels real.
I love the way Serena deals with trauma, abuse, heartbreak and overcoming your demons. This book whilst breaking your heart has a feeling as though you are watching a snapshot into someone else's life rather than it being a tropey read. I really admire Serena Akeroyd because of this. I love it.
Be warned this book does come with a slight cliffhanger, even if I'd figured it out before it happened! It will lead on nicely to the next book that I can't wait to read!
I want to give this more because the relationship and health battles between Maverick and Alessa are so important but the huge important details the group just keep dropping all over the place made it impossible to rate this one highly. It's all over the place. Fortunately the drama between Maverick and Alessa was so compelling, this book held together even though it had such huge issues.
The secret society/crime syndicate stuff is still a huge (even bigger now) part of the story and that annoys me to no end. How are these guys making money right now? Every business they own seems to be neglected while everyone is distracted with healing and a myriad of other things. Important shit gets brought up and then never mentioned again or pushed aside as though it isn't hugely important shit. Uh, if your "important enough to get blown up over" thumb drive is missing, shouldn't you want to know for sure immediately? Not just shrug and assume someone else has it?
I'm super annoyed that nobody is really intervening with Cyan and Keira. WTF? That whole problem just gets pushed around while they look for evidence but NOBODY is talking to Cyan or Keira. EVERYONE of these people, especially Tiffany, a budding therapist, should have been all over getting CYAN to a professional instead of assuming she has no way to contact her inappropriate adult. THIS ENTIRE SERIES so far is about child sex abuse. Nearly every woman in this group has been child raped. WTF is wrong with them to just ignore the CHILD they suspect of being groomed?
Hawk is side character we know practically nothing about so while I'm hooked on this series now, I'm apprehensive about where this book is going to go.
Heartwarming and Heartbreaking!!!
This is the one Dark & Dirty Sinner I was looking forward to reading and I quite literally could not put this down! Dark, Twisted, heartbreaking but heartwarming, love and oh so swoon-worthy! And yes you will that to throw your phone/kindle and scream and cry!!!
I can’t even find the right word as amazing and incredible are not strong enough. Serena crosses over 2 series, has multiple POVs all while following many timelines. Everyone thinks MCs are bad men who do illegal things. Yeah the Sinners may, but the love they have for their women and brothers makes this such a touching series.
Maverick suffers from PTSD but also CTE. He has no clue who his wife is or why he is not at war but on the council for Satan’s Sinners. Alessa, aka Ghost, was a slave and saved by the Sinners. She is doing everything she can to love and nurture her husband who acts like he wants nothing to do with her.
“This was Maverick. No, the Mav of before wouldn’t have tried to crush my windpipe. No, he hadn’t endured such violent nightmares, but I had to have faith in the man who had become the one I loved.”
Well done Serena, definitely deserves a 5 STAR, ONE CLICK and oh yes…….did I fail to say CLIFFHANGER!
Maverick
(Dark and Dirty Sinners’ MC #6)
Written by: Serena Akeroyd
I might be the only one who is coming in on this series cold at book number six, but I have to say this, I have read a few MC stories, but this one, this one drew me in and I can promise you I am going back and starting at the beginning! Today!
This story moved quickly, and honestly it wasn’t hard to walk in on book six because these characters are family. Not a regular family but nonetheless a family who will die for each other.
It never stopped, the story flowed, it grew and it makes the reader a part of it and before you know it you are as invested as these characters are.
From medical issues, to potential threats, with family members going through a tough healing process – the reader is there.
Intertwined with the bigger story is that of Maverick, who had been a member of the Green Beret special forces to his wife Alessa who had been held captive, had married and now unsure about any kind of future for either one.
Maverick and Alessa’s story was one of worry, healing, growth and ultimately love and amongst all the chaos with them and around them, they find their happiness and forever.
Ugh! Another heart wrenching roller coaster of a ride in Serena Ackeroyd’s sixth installment of the Dark and Dirty Sinner’s MC. Ghost and Maverick’s story will just gut you. After the MC’s clubhouse blows up, Maverick wakes up and can’t remember his wife, Ghost. Instead, Maverick’s head is 10 years in the past, post-Afghanistan, just learning about the death of his significant other. Ghost has to find the strength to become Alessa once again after dealing with her own traumatic past and now she needs to support Maverick through his struggle to find himself as well. Ms. Ackeroyd does a fantastic job talking about PTSD and CTE and the stressors felt, both to self and to family.
Maverick would definitely be considered a darker romance and covers many triggering topic such as rape, grooming, and PTSD. This is not a standalone book and ends on a cliffhanger. It should be read (and enjoyed) in order with the other Dark and Dirty Sinner MC novels. These books are really great and are all one-clicks. You will laugh, you will cry, you may want to beat up your kindle, but you won’t be disappointed!
I've eagerly awaiting the release of Mavericks book, I've loved the hints of him we have gotten in the previous books in this series. The sinners are one big loving family and it really shines through in this book. The love they show for Maverick and his sexuality, considering hes supposed to be in a manly biker club, is heartwarming. This book also shows that a person can have more than one love of their life! Serena brings some delicate subjects to the forefront in this book and does so wonderfully and with such respect. I'm loving this series.
AHH... Maverick... You made me swoon and cry and hurt so bad yet healed me too. ❤️
Right from the start of the series, Maverick and Ghost have been one of my most anticipated books to look forward to and it was so worth the wait.
Ghost and Maverick have had very unusual circumstances in which they came close together and even though are husband and wife but so in name only.
But what they feel for each other and the way they understand and care for each other is where their true depth of the bond can be felt.
But this one has a major shocker that happens because of what happened in the previous book that resulted in the shaking the foundations of the Sinners MC. Everything in chaos and destroyed.
But the subsequent effect drastically affected Maverick when he forgets the last decade of his life and doesn't even remember who Alessa aka Ghost is.
Ghost is heart broken and even though the sassy and awesome ladies of the club and her friends support her and encourage her to be strong, it is difficult to look into Maverick's eyes and see indifference there.
AHH.. But how beautifully the author has changed something of tragedy and made it into something that not only brings Mav and Alessa closer but she finally comes out of her shell and becomes a strong lady that is both soft and yet will stand up for herself.
This one is definitely my top favorite book of this series even though it's hard to choose the favorite one from this series. But Maverick and Alessa they will not only leave you with tears but also will make you smile with their strength and their love. Especially Alessa, how she comes out as a woman who has been through so much of horrible things in her life and yet is like a phoenix, rising all the more stronger yet again.
The other happenings regarding the club business as always had me on the edge sometimes so scared and sometimes just downright terrified as to what will happen and all the secrets had me like😳😱.
But that ending. NOOOOO... 😱😰😨... I'M SO SCARED AS TO WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT. LOVED THIS ONE. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
