Ten years after the love of her life left town without any explanation, all Deena Davis wants for her thirtieth birthday is to move on and forget about the past. But when a blind date turns disastrous and her past shows up looking better than a young George Strait in a Stetson, Deena discovers forgetting the past may not be possible. Especially when it leads to a wild ride full of rekindled feelings and unexpected wagers with danger. But after ten years apart, is one crazy night enough time to determine if a future together is worth the gamble?
Becca Kinzer lives in Springfield, Illinois where she works as a critical care nurse. When she’s not busy taking care of sick patients or using up all the storage on her phone with pictures of her dog, she enjoys making up lighthearted stories with serious laughs. She is the author of multiple titles including Dear Henry, Love Edith, which won the 2024 Carol Award for debut novel, and Love in Tandem.
This was another great novella by Becca Kinzer! I really am enjoying her writing, and I can’t wait to read her novel. I loved Roger and Deena. They were so fun together, and I LOVED the banter. It was fun seeing how this novella and her other novella are set on the same day just from the sister’s point of view. Also Eddie cracks me up! I definitely recommend this novella.
What a fun book to read. This is a new-to-me author, and her stories are full of fun and crazy events. I loved this book. So much humor and quirky, crazy stuff. I loved all the crazy fun banter the two main characters had. Becca Kinzer is an author I will be looking forward to reading more from. I highly, highly recommend you pick this book up to get a sweet read and escape that will warm your heart! I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
It was clean, witty, well-written, and action-packed. And those are rarely words I use to review romance novels...
There was the perfect amount of description and details - leaving room for imagination while also informing us of who we were reading about and falling in love with.
What a fun little novella. After reading The Birthday Blitz, I was happy to find out what happened to Deena. This bright little romance snack had me laughing out loud. It ended a little abruptly and I wish there was a small epilogue but maybe the author will do some more stories about the other brothers (hint, hint).
What a fun novella that had all the things: humor, wit, plot twists, suspense, romance, and heartfelt moments of healing, family; and second chances. I loved how the “random” things all tied together and became “not-so-random” moments after all, especially the ones that made me laugh because I just wasn’t expecting that! Loved it! And probably one of my favorite novellas to-date now!
This was cute, light, and fun. Becca Kinzer always makes me laugh with her goofy sense of humor. I would love to be her friend! 😉 this book is only available if you subscribe to her newsletter, and you also get her other Novella called the Birthday Blitz. It doesn’t matter which one you read first.
What I read: The Birthday Bullseye by Becca Kinzer
Why I picked it up: I just finished her full length debut novel and loved it – and was gifted these two novellas when I signed up for her newsletter, so I decided to treat myself with a couple of quick reads.
How I read it: On kindle.
What it’s about: Deena decides to spend her 30th birthday on a blind date instead of with her family, only problem is the guy’s someone she knows who she should not be dating. A mysterious cowboy comes to her rescue, but he’s on a mission of his own that gets derailed by a snow storm. Turns out Deena and the cowboy know each other, and maybe they’ll pick up where they left off?
What I liked: The couple who rescues them at the end of the story were so sweet. I wouldn’t mind reading their story next!
What I disliked: By its nature, a novella is just too short – but I still dislike that it was so short! I want to know what happens a year from now! There needed to be a quick, 3 page epilogue 1 year in the future and then 50 years in the future when they turn out like the cute older couple.
Genre: Chaste love story, snow storm, second chance.
Rating & Recommendation: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and definitely – get it for free by signing up for her newsletter here.
