The Brilliant Child: Nurture Your Child’s Brain By Making Learning Whole

Rate this book
A lot of parents are pressuring their kids these days to achieve well in school in the hopes of securing for them a good future and a successful career. Why are we pushing our kids to be good at a particular subject? Why are we obsessed with getting them in prestigious schools? Why are grades the measure of intelligence? Are we really raising successful children in this manner?Howard Gardner first started the theory on multiple intelligence. Gardner was also dissatisfied with the rigid way society conceives intelligence, as seen in IQ tests. He wanted to expand our understanding of what intelligence is and how each child possesses a particular gift. This book will help you understand his theory and how it can be developed in your own child. These intelligences can also be referred to as ‘Gifts.’ I think that all kids are gifted in different ways. The word ‘intelligence’ may sound too cognitive or too attached to the traditional notion of intelligence. Using the label ‘Gifts,’ I want to emphasize how great and wonderful these capacities are. A gift connotes something hidden that can be opened and discovered. Inside this gift is a wonder that brings joy and happiness to people who receive it. And I believe that each child is a gift waiting to be found by all. Everyone has special abilities that we can share with others. In this book, you will

How to appreciate your child’s giftWhat values each gift can contribute to the societyHow the gift works in the brainThe limitations of each giftHow to develop these giftsThe career paths that are associated with each giftBefore you push your child on a career path they may not want, you better read this book first. It will open your mind to understanding that your child is already gifted as he or she is. Learn what makes learning whole by understanding all these concepts and how to take advantage of this to help your child unlock his strength and potential. With your guidance, your child can truly accept and hone these gifts to the fullest.

Enjoyed

I enjoyed this book, easy to read and well laid out into small chunks. 3 stars as I don't 100% agree with everything said but it was still good to see a different perspective.
