This was a cute little historical fiction! The characters were likeable and the plot moved at a fast enough pace to keep me interested. At certain points things did feel a tad rushed, but overall it was a fun read!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for kindly providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. #NetGalley #UnderASpitfireSky. All opinions are my own.

CAN THEY FIND LOVE IN THE DARKEST DAYS OF WAR?
It's 1944, and Florence is a talented engineer in the Women's Auxiliary Air Force, patching up planes to make sure that the brave Spitfire pilots of Cottisbourne airbase return safely day after day. When she befriends the new squadron leader - shy, handsome Siegfried - it seems that romance might blossom under the war-torn skies. Can Florence save her Spitfire boys, and her own heart?1944 saw the introduction of new fighters. The Spitfire was the iconic aircraft of the Battle of Britain and became the symbol of British defiance in the air. The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter aircraft that was used by the RAF and other Allied countries before, during and after WWII. Many variants of the Spitfire were built, using several wing configurations, and it was produced in greater numbers than any other British aircraft. WAAF women worked as mechanics, engineers, electricians and fitters for aeroplanes.Although they didn't participate in active combat, they were exposed to the same dangers as any on the home front working at military installations.

A really enjoyable historical fiction read. I read this in two sittings. A great insight into what life was like during those dark days of the war. Siegfried and Florence's friendship made me smile and his bond with Alfie warmed my heart. Where I did find a lot of the plot quite predictable, I didn't see the final twist coming. I would definitely read more from Ellie Curzon in the future.

Florence is a mechanic with the WAAF looking after spitfires. She befriends squadron leader Siegfried. A new advanced version of the spitfire has been developed which could turn the tide of the war, but there is a traitor at the airfield feeding intel to the Germans. With Siegfried testing the plane, encountering enemy fighters, can Flo help her fighter boys & help uncover the traitor. And what about her relationship with her squadron leader

I enjoyed this story quite a bit. It was paced nicely except for the last few chapters felt rushed. I am hoping that there is a sequel so that I can see how one storyline ends. It had a few "awwww" moments that hit me with the "feels" but I like that in a book. I found myself rooting for the heroine to have a happy ending. I would hughly recommend this book.

A different kind of war story

This is a pretty tame World War II story, quite a bit of romance and what life was like on the home front, mixed in with some espionage and mythical figures playing a role in the story as well. It is an odd mixture of content, an easy read, some suspense. It provides a respite from some of the horrors brought out in other war stories.

A Wonderful Story

What a story. From a sleaze to accidentally identifying a nest of spies
From super efficient housekeeper to...well, you have to read the book to find out.
And from a mechanic of planes to wife of...again, you have to read the story for yourself

This was a ‘silly’ ( and I say that with some affection) yarn - so improbable and far removed from reality. It was like a ‘Girl’s Own’ story and if you like a book with all the loose ends well and truly tied up and a ‘they all lived happily ever after’ then look no further

The War in the air

A WW2 flying saga that has an enjoyable mixture of romance and the acceptable and unacceptable moral codes of conduct of the time.Ellie Curzon weaves a tale of friendship, loss, espionage and the advances in aircraft design which impact historical events.

VERY good book

A book with many twist and turns... The story of the brave pilots and spies all in one book! Not to mention a good romance. I highly recommend this book... It kept me reading into the wee hours because I couldn't put it down!
