Warren “War” Channing finally has the chance to nail his beautiful, lying ex. And, no, he doesn’t mean “nail” in the down and dirty sexual way…War means he has the opportunity to send the lovely and infuriating Rose Shadow to jail. Turned out, the woman who had shattered his heart beneath her high heeled shoes was wanted for murder. She was on the run, and he was just the man to hunt her down and toss her into the nearest cell…War could hardly wait.
He was the last man she expected to need.
The breakup had been ugly. Painful. It had ripped out her heart and left her in a sad, crying heap as she ate her ice cream, but Rose had moved the hell on, and she had sworn to never, ever need War again. Except, well, now she did need him and his sneaky skills because Rose was in trouble up to her eyes. The kind of trouble that could wreck a woman’s life.
He’ll make her pay.
Rose has cracked the story of a lifetime. She’s uncovered a brutal serial killer who has been hiding in the shadows—only now, she is his next target. The cops think she’s involved in the string of murders because maybe her DNA had been at a crime scene and maybe she’d been spotted by witnesses at another location, but Rose is a reporter—she’d been at the scenes because she was tracking down the real killer. Now, though, because War has caught her, Rose is out of time and options. War is former special ops. He’s the best PI in town. And he’s the man who gave her more pleasure than should be legal…Too bad that he’s also the man who hates her the most.
Forty-eight hours…then jail.
They make a grudging deal—she’ll pay him anything he wants if he just gives her forty-eight hours before he turns her over to the cops. During that forty-eight hours, he will help her track the real killer. When the clock runs down, she’ll be out of his life for good. Except…a whole lot can change for two people in forty-eight hours. Hate can turn into desire. Need can rage out of control. And a love that you thought was long dead? It just might flash to life again.
Provided, of course, that the murderer hunting Rose doesn’t manage to kill her before she and War can catch him. Forty-eight hours. The countdown starts now…
Author’s note: The Trouble For Hire romance series features hot, former military heroes…and these guys truly are the best kind of trouble. All of the books are stand-alones with guaranteed happy endings. Danger, romance, action, suspense, humor…oh, it’s definitely time to find some trouble…

Cynthia lives along the Alabama Gulf Coast. She loves romance novels, horror movies, and chocolate. Her favorite hobbies including hiking in the mountains (searching for waterfalls) and spelunking.
For a romantic suspense book, this was really fun to read. War is the broody, jealous and protective kind of hero. He was hurt and broke up with Rose when he thought she had betrayed him but despite that, he couldn't stand the thought of her being in danger. I enjoyed his pursuit of her when he realized he was wrong. It was entertaining to watch him convince her to give him a second try all while trying to hunt down the killer. I had no idea who the killer was until the end. I find that Cynthia Eden does a really good job of keeping you guessing. I look forward to Odin's book next!
Oh my gosh! It just doesn’t get any better than this!
I’m not a huge fan of the second chance trope but holy heck, this was amazing! Rose and War set my Kindle on fire with their chemistry. After a bad breakup they are at ground zero when it comes to getting along with each other. The banter as they argued was electric and had me squirming in my seat as I devoured every delicious taunt. This truly has never been something I enjoy but Rose and War together are addictive!
While I loved Rose, it was War that stole my heart completely. I loved the way his thoughts imagined certain things in the beginning and the expected glee he would derive from those thoughts alone. Once he realizes that Rose is in serious trouble, the turn around into full on protective mode was like catnip to my alpha loving heart. Gah! He was delicious in every way.
This has a lot of action, plenty of humor, and enough steam to require a furtive look around in case someone was watching me read (and respond to) all of this deliciousness. With the addition of War’s best friend Odin, I feel as though I’m floating in the clouds in anticipation for his book next. Surely I’ve done something wonderful in a previous life to be awarded the chance to read this.
Romance, suspense and a ton of laughs... No Escape From War gave me just what I needed.
☑ a brooding, handsome, and more than capable ex-SEAL, Alpha hero ☑ a sassy, beautiful, and fierce heroine ☑ a stalker-murderer who has our heroes in his crosshairs ☑ a sexy, second chance at love
Seriously, what more could one ask for?
Despite the fact that I guessed the identity of the killer early on, I thoroughly enjoyed the journey. I loved how the author gave both characters easily relatable flaws. War found it hard to trust and the smallest things could (and did) set him off. Rose had walls and when War had hurt her, she found it hard to bring them down for him again. He was a bit of a brute and she wanted to tame him. It was an interesting dynamic that fed this story.
And although I've already met Odin, I loved getting to see him introduced in this book. And there it was. Pure Odin. The guy who would have your back in an instant even if he was pissed as hell at you. A friend straight to the core, through blood and pain and battles. You're gonna love Odin too!
Cynthia Eden has been a must-buy author for me for a long time and I rely on her for a juicy plot, demanding characters, fantastic chemistry, and must-read romance. With No Escape From War, she delivered.
3.75 stars ⭐️. As always a well written book with strong alpha hero who was an ex SEAL and a courageous but softhearted, reporter heroine. Information about killer past would’ve been good. Both were celibate during separation and I loved them together. Safe and recommended.
💯Gotta say I’m enjoying this series so far. It’s fun, spicy and murdery.
💔War and Rose had a bad break up about a month ago. War is a retired Special Ops. He owns a bar and a PI business. ☠️Rose is a television reporter on the deadliest case of her life. 💔War is super salty cause he thinks she cheated. 💔Rose is super salty cause he accused her of cheating and the horrible things he said before he broke up with her.
😱So when Rose goes off the grid and the cops want to talk to her about a string of murders, War get a chance to have a bit of revenge. Hired to track her down and deliver her to the cops War finds Rose but instead of turning her over to the cops he promises to help her find the man that’s trying to kill her.
🔥Off the charts chemistry between these two. 💯Serial Killer cat and mouse game that’s delicious 😍 Odin 💕Great Fun Banter 💯CE classic twists at the end that you don’t see coming. 💔Betrayal ❤️He has to win her back 🥰I loved how War was vulnerable for her 🥲Miscommunications and assumptions ‼️This was just fun and entertaining with some murder mystery mixed in and killer that’s after our h.
🥀 Hero: War- retired Special OPs, Owner of a bar and PI company. He’s has serious abandonment issues. He’s doesn’t love easily but when he does he is all in. He is ❤️🔥 hot and broody with a heart of gold. And when he opens up to Rose and gets all vulnerable it is so swoony sweet.

Safety info: Second chance romance. H had a crush on her. She is a reporter. H meet her in his bar and didn’t want to waste his opportunity with his crush. So cute H thought she cheated because of some photos. It was OM the one that kissed h and she didn’t want it. She ended the kiss and didn’t respond to it. It was all a farce to make them break up. H was jealous and heartbroken. H was abandoned by his parents. h was heartbroken that H didn’t left her saying what happened and was saying nasty crap about her. They have been separated for one month. No other people for neither of them after meeting.

The dude doesn't trust her and lies to her. I appreciate that she pushes back and asked him for better behavior. But, there is so much about them being super attracted to each other and constantly wanting to jump each other.
The relationship didn't really have a lot to develop emotionally though he does "tell her things" when he realizes he can no longer keep secrets and keep her
This book did it for me. Like seriously, the plot, the characters, the writing. All of it A+
Warren War Channing is a PI who just got his dream plopped into his lap. His cheating and lying ex is wanted by the police for a murder and he’s been hired to drag her in. Sweet, sweet, delicious karma.
Rose doesn’t lie or cheat, so the breakup was pretty bad, considering War thinks she’s done both. And the fact that she still dreams about War really sucks. In fact, everything about her life really sucks right about now. She’s a reporter who got a bit too close to a story and now she’s a person of interest in a murder investigation. And having her ex show up to drag her to jail isn’t exactly high on her bucket list.
When he catches her and she tries to tell her side of the story, he wants to believe her, but…she’s a liar, isn’t she? Until he sees firsthand how bad it is. She really is telling the truth, and maybe she’s been telling the truth all this time. Rose and War don’t realize how much of what has happened in the past was orchestrated by someone else, and when they start to get a glimpse of just how much is going on, and how deep it goes, they know they need to face it together.
What I loved the most about this story is that the Big Misunderstanding is cleared up by about a quarter of the way through the book. We don’t have the feeling of wanting to shake the characters and shout, “Holy crap just have a freaking conversation like adults!” and even better, we don’t realize there even is a Big Misunderstanding until the characters do. It’s genuine, it’s organic, and it feels right to the storyline. Excellent storytelling.
This book was action-packed, full of romance, steam, excitement, and every word was amazing. I look forward to the next book in this series. I will always clear my schedule for a Cynthia Eden book.

At this point I'm becoming a pro at leaving books half way through. Either I'm going through a slump period or going through the bad luck of picking up books not suiting my taste.
There was nothing bad per se about this book it was just monotonous to me. It's obvious most romantic books end with a HEA, it's the journey and the characters that make it worth your time and leave a lasting impression. This book had the formula down to a t and I guess that made it so predictable to me to the point that is was a drag to try and continue further.
Here's to me being optimistic that the next book brings me out of this "DNF" curse.
This was amazing It reminded me of the Mindfuck series I mean like an extract of the series specifically the whole boogeyman thing I fucking loved it 🫶
NO ESCAPE FROM WAR is the first instalment in Cynthia Eden’s contemporary, adult TROUBLE FOR HIRE erotic, romantic suspense series. This is former US Navy SEAL turned private investigator and bar owner Warren ‘War’ Channing, and journalist/broadcaster Rose Shadow’s story line.
Told from several third person perspectives including Rose and War, NO ESCAPE FROM WAR follows several months after the breakdown of the relationship between former US Navy SEAL and PI Warren ‘War’ Channing, and journalist/broadcaster Rose Shadow’s. Rose Shadow is in trouble-she is a person of interest in the murders of several local women, and has not one but two potential stalkers who are forcing our heroine on the run. Hired to locate our story line heroine, Warren ‘War’ Channing, owner and operators of TROUBLE FOR HIRE Investigations, easily finds the woman he once loved but lets her know that he has no problem turning her in as a potential serial killer. An attack against our heroine finds Warren both protector and guardian, as the hunt for a killer hits too close to home, a serial killer who may have help finding his next victim. What ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between War and Rose, and the fall-out as our couple is targeted by a killer whose focus is now on our story line couple.
Warren Channing believed Rose Shadow betrayed his love, and with issues of trust, War wasn’t having anything to do with our story line heroine-his inability to forgive led to a growing hate of the woman he wanted to call his forever. Unable to defend herself, Rose was pushed out of Warren’s life knowing that she was innocent of the charges all around but War’s reappearance in her life coincides with the murder investigation that points the finger at our story line heroine, and a potential stalker, leaving our Rose vulnerable to old feelings, feelings she knows will lead her to another broken heart. As War works overtime to protect our story line heroine, the list of potential stalkers and killers begins to climb.
The relationship between Rose and War is a second chance romance; a love destroyed by perceived betrayal and issues of trust. War struggles with his renewed attraction to the woman he believes did him ‘wrong’, and Rose wants nothing to do with a man who is unable to see the truth through the forgery of lies. As War and Rose find themselves on the run, the killer/stalker is always one step behind forcing our couple to look long and hard at potential suspects. The $ex scenes are intimate, seductive and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to fellow US Navy SEAL and War’s friend Odin Shaw; Detective Lynn Slater ; Rose’s co-worker and boss Dylan Nelson, informant Billy, and PI Gary Strom. Odin’s story is next in DON’T PLAY WITH ODIN.
NO ESCAPE FROM WAR is a story of rekindling romance, forgiveness and love; a tale of obsession and hate, power and control. The premise is fast paced, intense and intriguing; the romance is sensual, captivating and intimate; the characters are energetic and emotional. NO ESCAPE FROM WAR is a wonderful and powerful start to Cynthia Eden’s new TROUBLE FOR HIRE.
This was a really good second chance for love story. There was something about War's character that was so swoon worthy. And, every time he said "baby" I melted for him a little more.
3.75 ✨✨✨ i hate second chance romance but if ur ever going to write a second chance romance, write it like this on please!!!!!!!!
this book follows War and Rose. they dated for a bit but then War received some pics of Rose ‘cheating’ on him and he was heartbroken 💔 and broke up with her. now flash forward a few months, Rose is caught in the web of a serial killer and War was given the task of hunting her down which he does🥹💖 this was a very much mix or romance x criminal minds. both trying to figure out who is the killer before they kill Rose and falling back in love in the process (not that they fell out of love in the first place)
i loved the tension and push and pull between War and Rose. it was so delicious how War was so angry at Rose but still wanted her so much and Rose was angry that War didn’t trust her because she never cheated on him. we get some true heart to heart moments and a few spicy scenes 🌶 ✨
overall, it was a good book, the plot was a bit boring near the end but i liked War and Rose and how vulnerable War was in showing her his true emotions
safety: no owd, no virgins, celibate during separation (a few months separation i believe), serial killer on the loose • omd: Rose’s coworker is obsessed with her and cases some issues
No Escape From War is the first book in the new Trouble For Hire series. Cynthia Eden has always been my "Go To" author when I'm looking for a romantic suspense and "Man, Oh Man" has she nailed another one! This book is a stand alone with a 2nd chance trope and it has lots of humor, action, suspense, great characters, a wonderful plot and a HEA. My only disappointment was that this book was so addicting that it just wasn't long enough...
Warren “War” Channing is on the hunt for his lying, cheating ex. She is wanted for murder and he will chase her down, cuff her and throw her in jail with a smile on his face. Maybe, then he could start getting over the one woman, Rose Shadow, who broke his heart.
Rose Shadow is in a heap of trouble and she swore after the painful, ugly breakup that she would never need War again. Except, she does but she needs his sneaky, criminal skills even more. Looks like her moving on just got derailed...
Rose is tracking a serial killer and it could be the story of a lifetime for her. She has discovered a man who likes to choke his victims to death while hiding in the shadows. Now, Rose has become his next target. She is a reporter and has access to the crime scenes but Rose thought she would have more time to figure out the clues when War, former Navy SEAL and now a PI has caught her
They make a deal—48 hours is what he agrees to give her before her hauls her to jail. During that time, he will help her in many ways to track "said" killer and when her time is over she will be out of his life for good. A lot can change in that time, desire can overcome hate, need can be uncontrollable and love can come roaring back to life.
However, trying to keep the killer from murdering her is harder than Escaping From War...
Finished No Escape From War by Cynthia Eden WAAAAAAAY too fast and LOVED every action packed, sexy, thrilling and fun ride of this brand new series! This book was one I found myself not wanting to put down even for a second. It was amusing at times, and so sexy at others, I found myself breathless and squirming in my seat.
War and Rose have this undeniable, irresistible chemistry that you can feel the tension between them from the moment the two got together. War is tough, sexy and goes after what he wants with a stubbornness and determination that is beyond hot while Rose's dedication to catching the serial killer who is hot on her heels admirable and I easily could picture her being the kind of person that I would love to have in my corner as a friend. She is smart and sweet and gorgeous and is really the perfect match for someone like War. This book was full to bursting with pulse pounding action, danger and suspense as well as romance so steamy, you can feel the heat straight off the pages. It was also a lot of fun and kind of reminded me a bit of the romantic comedy Bounty Hunter. I found myself giggling and grinning more than once. I loved it! I can't wait to read about Odin's HEA too in the next book, Playing With Odin. I am seriously addicted to this new Trouble For Hire series and want ALL the books!
No Escape From War gets a DELICIOUSLY ENTERTAINING FIVE PULSE POUNDING STARS!
You can’t go wrong with Cynthia Eden. Her books will always be mood and this one was not the exception.
I loved Rose and War! Their love-hate, banter, sexual tension did it for me, tho it was fast paced I still enjoyed it not to mention steamy scenes were *chef kiss*
I also loved Odin and can’t wait for his book! If you are interested in a former military Viking-looking H that is such a shy but strong H and a true-crime enthusiast then you'll need to add 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗱𝗶𝗻 to your tbr list ❤️
I’m not a big fan of the second chances trope but after reading the sneak peak I was totally caught and couldn’t wait to get this book in my hands.
No Escape from War is the first installation of her newest series “Trouble For Hire” and perfect introduction to the series.
this was actually fun and i don’t really like second chance romance, but i enjoyed this one!!! i’m not giving it 4 stars bc i have the vision, next book will be better than this one, but if that doesn’t happen i might give this another star.
also this is how you write female characters!!!!!! even at the ending fight she fought on her own to save herself, physically and mentally. and the hero was really understanding and was the one who was afraid she would leave his ass for being an idiot and not fully trusting her.
this is like criminal minds valentine’s day special. i love it.
Oh my goodness! War and Rose were definitely meant to be! You saw it right away that they had this amazing connection! I loved how great they worked together! So glad they got the ending they deserved! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Cynthia Eden is my go to author when I'm in the mood for a suspenseful steamy read. NO ESCAPE FROM WAR was no different. In this story, War and Rose's chemistry and undeniable attraction took center stage right along with their pursuit of a serial killer. I enjoyed the overall story and how the author went about setting the stage for other books in the series while still bringing forth an interesting conflict without losing pace and keeping the reader engaged.
But in truth, I feel like this book was missing SOMETHING. Maybe a prologue depicting the breakup and the immediate events leading up to it with an additional couple of chapters where the reader gained more insight into Rose, why exactly she was on the run and how miserable War was without her. As it was, there was a whole lot of telling and not enough showing for me to get a clear grasp on who War and Rose were as individuals. Sure, it was great to see them together, but the connection that made it to the page was not enough for me to become invested in the romance.
All in all, a great introduction to a series with elements of suspense, some humor and plenty of steam. I am definitely looking forward to Odin's story.
Cynthia Eden's books are usually a safe, comfort read for me, but I really disliked how the hero treated the heroine. He didn't believe her. He didn't give her a chance to explain. He didn't listen. It was so frustrating. After he suddenly decided to listen to her, he kept sending mixed signals. I generally liked Rose as a character. The chapters in War's perspective did not have enough thoughtful reflection.
This new series by Cynthia Eden is an absorbing action-packed romantic suspense novel.
The two main characters, Rose and Warren, called “War” for short, are both “strong-minded, stubborn and independent characters. These characteristics set off sparks that makes their relationship volatile and explosive. Therefore, it takes very little to trigger their anger and/or their sexual appetite for each other. The reader can practically feel the steam that comes from their chemistry!
The stories plot is complicated, with lots of twists and turns. It involves a serial killer who decides to alienate War and Rose, so he can strangle Rose. When the story begins, the “bad guy” has already accomplished his first goal. He has already broken the couple up with a lie that Rose had cheated on him, complete with photos.
Rose is a reporter who has discovered some very important information about a string of murders. She is investigating it more when she reports it to the police. However, the police believe that Rose murdered these people because some witnesses claim they saw her at one of the crime scenes. Meanwhile, the killer lets Rose know that she is next-in-line to die.
Rose needs help, and War is the best PI in the area. Therefore, she seeks him out even though they are estranged. Only, he is too angry and just wants to call the police to arrest her. Rose convinces War to give her forty-eight hours to hunt down the killer before he calls the police.
The rest of the story includes edge-of-your-seat action, intrigue and sizzling sex between War and Rose.
3rd read April 2025: ugh, War is just the most delicious! Loved this perfect romantic suspense!
Re-read August 2023: Love how possessive and Uber protective Warren is…Le swoonnn! ❤️
Original review: Exciting, hot romance! What a ride! So much action and suspense and some sweet sweet romance combined. Due to a misunderstanding these two split up (for a month) but both are still hung up on each other. Fate throws them back together and they embark on an exciting adventure. I loved War’s alpha badness and Rose was strong and sassy. The heat was scorching and the action kept me on the edge of my seat. Very good read! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Safety: No OW OM: MC’s break up because H thinks h kissed another man (this takes place before the beginning of this book). This was all a misunderstanding though. No cheating No separation / no third act break up
Someone else might enjoy this but it was not for me. -I didn’t really feel the connection between our hero and heroine. Zero romance IMO. -The murder plot wasn’t all that interesting or enthralling. - The characters didn’t feel fully fleshed out. - In conclusion, I will not be continuing the series.
3 stars- I was suckered by a reviewer saying that it was like Mindf*ck series- spoiler it is NOT!
It was ok, I liked the characters together and yes, they solve the mystery and save the day. But it wasn't gripping for some reason. It took a few days to finish which tells a story in itself!
The dialogue with Odin, the side character, was way wittier: It was like pulling teeth to get responses. “You were way chattier in the bedroom.” “That’s because I thought my best friend had just committed a colossal mistake. I was worried.” She stopped tapping her fingers and strolled toward him. “You were wrong.” “I already admitted that. I said—” “I meant when you called yourself a charmer. I don’t know who told you that lie, but it was mean. You should know, you have not been very charming so far in our relationship.”
War: He hung up the phone. Narrowed his eyes on Rose. “Do not look at me like that.” “How?” “Like I freaking stole your favorite puppy, ate your last bit of cookie dough ice cream, and hid all the chocolate in the house from you.” Her lips wanted to tremble so she pressed them together. He knew cookie dough was her favorite, dammit.
They declare love for each other after they get the obstacles removed. I have to say the story handled the break-up believability pretty well: For a moment, she couldn’t move at all. “You, um, that’s kind of a poetic thing to say.” “And I’m not a real poetic guy.” “That’s not what I meant—” “I know what I am. I’m the bastard who gets shit done. The one not afraid to play dirty. To do the dirty deeds that are necessary. I don’t usually have pretty words. I don’t say the right words. I screw up shit and that’s just life.” His lips thinned. “But I want to be different with you. You make me different.”
And you almost had me at "pug": “Do you want to die?” Spittle flew from his mouth. No, she didn’t want to die. She wanted to live a long and happy life with War. Maybe have a kid or two. Definitely get a pug. She wanted to walk along the beach at sunset. She wanted to make love with War under the moonlight. Rose had a million things on her to-do list. And dying? Not on that list.
I'm always happy to start a new series by authors that I love so much. I know they are going to take me on a ride that I don't want to miss. One of my favorite series writers is Cynthia Eden. She writes some of the best male characters for me. They are always alpha unless it comes to the ones they love, then they are putty in their hands. So sweet.
I think what else I love about her books is her ability to pack so much into a story that usually has a slightly shorter page count than those you find on the store shelves. It takes a great author to be able to do that. I also love her humor which comes right off the pages of her books. If you have yet started her you really should.
So for the is new series called Trouble for Hire you meet Warren "War" Channing and Rose Shadow. Love her last name.
Right away I loved War. I felt so bad for him. He wasn't over the hurt he dealt with when he was in a relationship with Rose before. He's still a very angry man. It kinda makes you not like Rose in the beginning. I pictured her differently until I started to really get into the story. Stuff happens that I won't ruin for you that bring some things to light.
Quickly you see that these two love each other and need each other to be complete. They truly will do anything to protect the other person.
Not only will you enjoy them, but you'll also become intrigued by Odin and what's his story. This is another thing that Eden does so well. She can make you want, no, need to know more about the characters in her books. As she adds them you want their story right then. She could mostly have the longest going series as long as she added new characters every once in a while.
No Escape From War is a great start to this new series and you'll just love it. The characters are wonderful and the twists and turns make for fun reading. Now I'll have to want for Odin story in July.
