The way our lives are intertwined digitally, it wouldn't be an understatement to say that we are living in the digital age. With the onset of covid, more businesses and individuals took to digital platforms for sustaining their business. In the VUCA world, it is essential to embrace the all-pervasive digital technologies and bring a shift in the long-held business principles and practices.

Winning in the Digital Age by Nitin Seth is a wonderful guide on how businesses and young professionals should approach digital transformation today. It comprises learnings from Seth's 20 years of experience tackling digital nuances, be it while leading the organisations or serving as a consultant. He lays down the seven crucial building blocks of successful digital transformation and explains each of them in great detail.

I thoroughly enjoyed the overall presentation of the book that elaborates on key insights with ease. Divided into seven sections with each of them further broken down into distinct chapters, Winning in the Digital Age is a comprehensive guide for one to read, assimilate, and apply in their work to achieve success. Slightly academic in nature but highly impactful in its approach, this book is meant for all those who wish to educate themselves on digital transformation and most importantly, how to go about it in the intricate and fast-changing world of digital.

Complete waste of time and money. Book is extremely theoretical with absolutely no practical value. Also, the content is repetitive and looks copied.

When I gave my interview for my job, apart from asking all sorts of textbook questions, the chairperson suddenly asked me “tell me, what do you hate to do when it comes to working?”, I took a second to understand if that was a trap for me. I went ahead and told them I don’t like to write lengthy reports and crosscheck all the data sometimes. He smiled and told me, “well majority of the business depends on those data”.

That’s true.

I may love my “actual job”, but not necessarily the report-making portion. In all honesty, it’s boring and mundane admin work that shapes the trajectory of the workflow. Ask any young entrepreneur or big sellers, they all feel like admin work is one of the most tiresome things to do.

As a person who both works and buys things (impulsive buyer) online cannot stress enough how digital media is shaping our lives. It not only connected me with my school friends but also introduced me to the whole world of the passion-driven economy (aka social media influencing/marketing). Yes, one may love what they are doing wholeheartedly that doesn’t mean all of their love and hard work is getting converted into currency. How one strengthens their bank account depends on several factors like how one is behaving and using digital tools.

one might say oh I don’t get this AI and algorithm and don’t want to learn about it. surely, one can, but if they are focusing to earn moolahs at this age you can't just turn your back from these things.
Nitin Seth in his book focused heavily on the importance of a data-driven economy and how to use it for one’s growth. He also shared how important it is to keep on learning digital marketing tools, no wonder why there’s a sudden rise in the enrolment of AI courses of udemy and Coursera-like platforms. In a nutshell, we all want to rise high above and there’s no wrong in aiming that growth for ourselves, but growth doesn’t come on its own, one needs to keep on pursuing it and maintain it in this volatile economy.

Winning in the digital age is for anyone who wants to succeed in the corporate world or have their own business. The fun part is that the very ideas and strategies shared in this book are both encouraging and can be applied in any industry.

A little announcement – I started my new job in the field of digital marketing about a month ago and I owe my disappearance from Instagram completely to it! But it has been such fun – playing with AI and witnessing the endless possibilities it has opened for online business.

However, seeing the tremendous pace by which AI is automating the tasks I used to do manually is equally terrifying.
This means that we are now experiencing the VUCA era, a concept that has been explored to its depth in the book “Winning in the Digital Age” by Nitin Seth.
V – Volatile
U – Uncertain
C – Complex
A – Ambiguous

At a time when, owing to the FAANG’s (Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix and Google), customer expectations are skyrocketing and new competitors are emerging at an alarming rate, how do you manage to navigate your way through this digital disruption?
In his book, Seth explains why firms fail at digitization and how they can overcome this. It isn’t a straitjacket approach though. From remote working, changing org structure and eladership, automation, usage of cloud to implementation of AIML, it is a combination of everything.
The book isn’t industry specific. We all are a part of this system and it is important to understand atleast the basics of how it all works. And the book does a great job of explaining it.
It is divided into 7 sections, spanning from issues like industry curve to leadership and talent. Using theory, stats and charts; the author has conveyed his solutions in a very easy-to-understand manner.

On a personal note – I have a very hard time grasping even the simplest of IT concepts. This book took time to read, but it was easy to grasp and honestly, quite interesting to read. If you are working or pursuing higher education, then do give this a read.

What does it take for a business to thrive in the digital age?
What is it like for a legacy organization to adopt a complete digital transformation?
What are the challenges digital natives face?

These are some of the many questions the book ‘Winning in the Digital Age’ answers. The author, Nitin Seth is the CEO of Incedo Inc., a company that helps drive #digitaltransformation (from strategy to execution) for their clients. Nitin’s decades of experience working to develop digital #strategy for clients at McKinsey & Company, driving strategy for Fidelity Investments and learning new rules of business at Flipkart has helped the shape the book into a Must-Read for anyone who wants to develop a career in digital transformation or leaders who want to make themselves and their teams ready to thrive in the digital age.

Seth’s learnings and insights from hands-on experience has been divided into the 7 building blocks for successfully executing digital transformations in organizations. Each of these blocks talk about different dimensions that one needs to consider while building themselves and their organizations to adopt digital strategy.

While most organizations try to embed technology in their existing functions, Seth stresses how the rules of business have changed in the VUCA world and end-to-end digital revamp is impossible without understanding these new rules. It includes the changing needs of customers, data explosion and the speed with which new products and services are being created and going obsolete.

When we talk about digital technologies such as cloud, blockchain, AI, etc. we need to be mindful that these are interdependent technologies. Designing CX, improving operational efficiencies, delving into new distribution channels are some areas where digital technologies can make a positive impact. Seth has dedicated one entire block to talk about the areas that can be digitally transformed using technology assets.

Seth also comments on the changing mindset of customers and how the millennials and Gen Z customers are more digitally minded now. While segmentation of customers was what marketers would do previously to determine the value offered, the era is slowly closing on to personalization for customers. This puts a greater stress on handling data and importance of data analytics and AI measurable increase.

It is Seth’s writing style that totally stands out for me. The book reads out like an interesting TED talk and is extremely effective in helping you create a vision in your head. Instead of giving you a plan for stepping into digital transformation, Seth shows you the way that will help you create your own custom plan. The book is full of inspiring and eye-opening anecdotes that will help you rethink your strategy. If there is one Business non-fiction you want to read this month, let it be ‘Winning in the Digital Age’ because it will definitely set you in the right track towards making your mark in the digital era.

Book Review - 'Winning in the digital age by @nitin Seth

The world of business has seen paradigm shifts due to the Industrial Age and the Information Technology Age in the past centuries. The twenty first century looks ahead to a new era, the Age of Digitization and in order to stay relevant, businesses have to adapt to the digital world.

Digitization is a vast term making it difficult to understand and even more to implement. This has been addressed by the author by breaking digital transformation into seven building blocks. Further, the concept of VUCA (familiar one for management graduates) and its impact has been discussed in various sectors such as Banking, Wealth Management, Telecom, etc. One concept I would specifically highlight is the "two speed" approach which I believe is not only relevant to organizations but also useful in the development of our careers and personal life.

The book is recommended to management students as they would be able to grasp and relate well to the concepts discussed. It would also serve as a comprehensive guide to entrepreneurs and business leaders who are venturing into the digital world of business. Said that, a piece of advice to the readers would be to read the book slowly more like a textbook which is something I would be doing by referring to it in the times to come.

This in brief guides the readers about digital transformation, that is taking place at a large scale and why many companies fail to cope up with the transformation. What is digital literacy? Why it is must for companies if they thrive to stay in the competitive market and why it is a crucial factor in the success. This tries to bring the information together that is needed for one to develop new skills and build a sustainable community. This book explains in detail about the information one needs to know and presents how a reader can learn new skills. I liked the layout of the chapters and the concepts presented for young entrepreneurs. I recommend this for those who are unfamiliar with the digital concepts and to those who want to improve their skills.

Ok! So not a very big fan of Non - fiction stuff, but got it as an assignment to read it in my college. The way our lives have become hugely dependent on digitization and new ways of marketting , customer retention and customer centric approach, is explained in depths in the book by Nitin Seth. He himself has worked in a lot of big conglomerates and has hands on experience of seeing the transformation of a traditional firm to a digital firm. A good read to get started for the beginners.

Giving it only 3 stars as I got quite bored reading it, as I am not a very big fan of non-fiction. People who are fiction lovers would understand ;)

I read the first chapters and I did not like it. I found it to be something a chatbot could have produced easily. Either completely obvious or vague clichés in my mind.

I struggled to keep reading and skimmed the rest of the book. I'm not sure what I Iearned.

If you are into this topic look else where. e.g. "what would Google do?".
