When you’ve spent your life trying to be perfect, how easy is it to let go?

Marion Markshop is the undisputed queen of Penmenna and has the perfect life – ask anyone. Doting husband? Hmm, maybe not… Well-behaved, angelic children? Definitely not. A network of close, supportive friends? Not so much, it turns out.

Marion sets out to change her autocratic ways by starting up a wedding planning enterprise in the village. But between her husband’s suspicious absences, her PTA frenemies and her own perfectionist tendencies, organising the dream wedding for her friend isn’t going smoothly and she’s running out of time to pull it off...

In this final book in the Cornish Village School series, the village comes together one last time to make sure everyone gets their happy ever after.

A second-chance romance perfect for fans of Tilly Tennant and Cathy Bramley.

I'm gutted that this fabulous series has had to come to an end, but wow it ends on a high,

Marion, the scary thorn in everyone's side in the previous books, is now the main character and she is a rather complex character

At times I hated her, at others I felt sorry for her, and I generally did want to wish her well.

It's a fabulous culmination and fitting end to this series, that has cemented the Penmenna school a place in my heart.

And I do have to say I'm rather curious as to what the author will be writing next.

Thank you to Canelo and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This was a lovely close to a fantastic series. Set in my favourite Cornwall, always a winner for me. This one features Marion- one of those 'difficult' characters trying to make a success of a new venture. Although she's not a pleasant character- you do get to see a different aspect of her and realise that there is a redeeming chink somewhere. Will she manage to organise her event in time- or will her past behaviour make it impossible?
I am looking forward to a new series from Kitty Wilson

Parts were exciting and memorable while other parts fell a little flat and will not be remembered by me. I enjoyed the part were Marion and Richard were back in each others arms and the ending 3.5 Stars

I have so enjoyed this series and don't want it to end but can't praise the author enough as the book is amazingly well written and the characters are brilliant and of course you feel you are there in Cornwall yourself. Full of heartbreak with plenty of romance and everyone getting their happy ever after such a warm read and very gripping you don't want it to end plenty about friendships to.
Marion has always wanted to be perfect and wants to show everyone she has the perfect life in her Cornwall village but she has a husband who isn't about much her children don't behave and she doesn't have many friends but she decides she needs to change her ways. She goes to her husband's place in London for a weekend as a surprise for there anniversary but when she arrives she finds his boss in her flat and believes they are having an affair so heads back to Cornwall but stops of where she was grown up and realises that her life with her mum wasn't perfect and she's been trying to be perfect every since. So she heads home and decides she needs to do something for herself and decides to set up a wedding planning and events planning as she's so organized but how will she react when her husband turns up back at home and she says she wants to leave him she's trying to organise a wedding and a PTA event for the school and while doing this she starts making friends with people as she shows what she can really be like and not the lady she's been. Can she sort her relationship out or not and will they all be happy ever after or not.
This is worth far more than five stars it's brilliant.

This arc copy was provided in exchange for a honest review.

Oh my I am a sucker for Cornwall books, books set at the seaside, books with dashingly handsome men in and women in Cath Kidston frocks!

This book provided lashing of all the above in a giant Cornish pasty sized amount.
I loved this book, I loved the series too. Kitty writes so well. I evened began to find I liked Marion in this book when she greeted on me in the others in the series.

This book was a solid summer read, it was joyful, gentle and sweet. Everything I desire in a book.

I don’t want it to be the end of the series though!

When Marion Marksharp has problems, everyone in the small Cornish village of Penmenna has a view. It is partly because she has worked hard to create an aura of perfection in the school, running the PTA with more than military precision, but also because she has worked hard to achieve the perfect family life with her husband Richard. This is the fifth book in a delightful series featuring those who work or have connections with the small village school set in an idyllic village in Cornwall, but the books don’t have to be read in strict order, as they each deal with a different couple. The gentle humour and the real insight into people are really good reasons for reading these books, as the people of the village skirt around Marion and her organisational skills which change lives. The ruler of many events at the school, such as fairs, valentine evenings and special projects, she has chosen those women that she can dominate into doing her orders her way, while wearing her distinctive style of dresses. Her three boys Rafe, Rupert and Rufus are notorious for their intelligent ways of causing mayhem and upset while her beady eye is not fully on them, but are models of excellent behaviour when she is in control. Marion has been walking in and out of the school and terrorising the school for years, but essentially she wants the best for everyone, even Harmony the teacher with strange ideas. In the past she has got involved in everyone else’s relationships to a certain extent, but in this book her own comes under pressure. Can she manage to salvage her own relationship, let alone make sure it is a happy ever after for everyone?

The one thing Marion loves beyond her power over the villages’ affairs is Richard. It emerges that she had a difficult childhood, and from the instant she sees him at college she was smitten, and still finds him irresistibly attractive. He has a flat in London, and one of the reasons Marion is so involved in other people’s concerns is because he spends most of his time there, and she represents him in the school. When he has to cancel their special anniversary weekend that Marion has been looking forward to at the last moment, she decides to surprise him by turning up at his flat. What she discovers there makes her believe that he is having an affair, and in her anger and despair she decides to use her experience and expertise to become an event organiser. Using her contacts she begins to try and persuade her friends to expand their wedding plans. Meanwhile someone is convinced that their marriage is not over.

This final book in the series has not lost any of the magic spark of the other books, and the humour is still as prevalent as ever. While Marion has never really been an easy character to like, her vulnerability makes her far more attractive. The combination of people in these novels is as strong as ever, and the setting as beautiful. These books have never been the traditional romantic read, as they always look at the community as a whole, but in this book Marion’s new circumstances there is a rounding up of the friends and people of the village as everyone is forced to take a fresh look at their relationships. I really enjoyed this book and how so many things are rounded off. I recommend it as a really light hearted book as well as a fictional escape to a beautiful Cornish village.

This has been an absolutely fantastic series, and choosing Marion Marksharp to be the focus of this final book is nothing short of brilliant!

Marion has always prided herself in being in full control of everything in her life - husband, sons and most definitely Penmenna school's PTA which she rules over with a rod of iron. The very last thing she expected was her husband to step out of line but, when he does, she deals with the situation swiftly and concisely - and moves on. Marion swiftly sets about making a career for herself; organisation is most definitely what she excels at so what better than to be a wedding-cum-party planner extraordinaire? But can she pull it off at short notice?

Throughout the previous four novels in this series, the character of Marion Marsharp has always been larger than life and the cause of much laughter - so it was a treat to get to know her better. The laughter hasn't gone away though, but her personality - finally - begins to shine through. The antics of her boys has always provided much giggling, and this time round is no different. Up until now, her husband has been very much a bit player but this is our opportunity to get to see things from his perspective too. With all previous characters making welcome appearances, this is a fitting finale to what has been an amazingly entertaining series; I admit to being gobsmacked to note from the acknowledgements that these were the author's first ever books as the writing has always been so polished and accomplished. While this can easily be enjoyed as a stand-alone read I really would recommend reading the first four books before embarking on this one - trust me, you will understand Marion much better! A stupendous end to a sparkling series, and a novel which deserves no less than a full house of stars which I'm delighted to give it!

Happy Ever After is the last book in Kitty Wilson's fantastic The Cornish Village School series. I have enjoyed reading about the staff at Penmenna School and hope she changes her mind in the future. I have read all five books and they are definitely on a par with Gervase Phinn`s.

Happy Ever After is focused on my favourite character, Uber Mum/head of the PTA Marion Marksharp. During the last book Marion received poison pen letters suggested her husband Richard was having an affair.

In this story Marion goes up to London to surprise Richard for their wedding anniversary. However when she walks into his flat she finds a female work colleague of Richard`s coming out of his shower just wrapped in a towel.

In shock Marion decides she will never forgive Richard`s adultery and knows they will divorce. In order to start making money she decides to set up Marion Marksharp Events. In true Marion fashion she manages to steamroller Headmistress Rosie Winters and celebrity Angelica Masters to organise their wedding.

I enjoyed reading about Marion`s difficult childhood and how that defined her as an adult. I loved her husband Richard who adored Marion despite her godzilla tendencies.

The Cornish Village School series has been a delightful series. I always enjoy reading about the reoccurring characters from past books such as Rosie, Matt, Alice and Kam. It always feels like meeting old friends.

I highly recommend these light hearted summer reads.

Marion's marriage to Richard is on the rocks after she finds out that he had apparently been unfaithful to her. She is devastated by Richard's apparent starting and is struggling to find a new purpose in life and decides to make use of her organisational skills and become an event planner
Having read and loved the previous books in the series I was really looking forward to this one. I must admit that to start I did struggle : Marion is the type of person that I struggle with, full of their own self importance, brash and uncaring for other's feelings. As the story develops, however, you begin to realise the true person behind her exterior, supportive of her family, passionate about what she does covering her memories of a less than happy childhood. She gradually realises that other people matter and that you can work better as part of a team, respective of other's views. All this time Richard is there to support her and his family with unswerving loyalty and love. With her new found attitude to others helping form new friendships can she make a success of her new venture? In the end I really enjoyed this book with its cast off characters that I've grown to love with the background of Cornwall that makes me feel part of that community.
Sad that this series has drawn to an end I m now looking forward to what new stories the author will bring us next.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review and had already pre-ordered the book anyway.

This is the 5th book in the series and I have enjoyed all of them.

Marion Markshop is a real-life Hyacinth Bucket. She controls the PTA and everything and everybody she has dealings with. Her poor hard-working husband aptly named Richard loves her unconditionally. When he is unable to return home for their wedding anniversary to Penmenna from London because of work commitments Marion decides to go to his London flat and surprise him, armed with saucy underwear she gets out of the lift only to be faced with his secretary with nothing on but a towel and wet hair. Marion high tails it back to Cornwall and decides her marriage is at an end, she changes the locks on the doors and decides being a "single" parent she needs to earn her own money to support their 2 sons and continue in the lifestyle to which she has become accustomed.

She comes up with the idea of becoming an events manager, after all, doesn't she already organise the school function one of them being the very successful valentines party.
She begins by pressuring couples in the village to use her skills and get married, some of them have only been dating a matter of weeks.

Will she be successful, will her husband win her back and will I stop laughing at the antics her sons get up to.
Another excellent book, worthy of 5 stars.

Thank you to Netgalley for a pre publication copy. In return for an honest review! #thecornishvillageschoolhappyeveraftrt #netgalley

Marion lives the picture perfect life with her husband in Cornwall until it seems to all come crashing down around her. Can she glue things back together or will they be cracked forever ?

The title and cover of this book drew me into it promising me to give me a light hearted read.

I have since found out this is book five in the series of which this is the only book I’ve read. I don’t feel that I’ve missed anything and the author gave enough introduction to the characters for me to be able to read this as a standalone.

This book absolutely does what it says on the tin. It gives you a lighthearted, romance read which is predictable just by reading the title. However the character growth and the life lessons this book gives are 1000 times more important than this book not giving you any surprises.

Although I would say that we find out Marion’s social history a bit too late in the book. Marion returns to where she grew up and was trying to show the reader how emotive this was but for reasons unknown to the reader until about another 1/4 in. This left you feeling a bit confused, like you were missing information and also meant the reader was left struggling to identify and feel Marion’s emotion.

This is the final book in this fabulous series, and it's another case of me feeling slightly bereft at the fact, but what a brilliant ending.

Marion 'Monster' Marksharp, was an absolute horror to practically everyone in the previous books, she is the main character in this book, and what a complex character she is.

For all her bossy ways, snide remarks, and her perfectionist tendancies, Marion actually cuts quite a lonely character.

She doesn't, and never really has had, a close network of supportive friends, and at times throughout the book I actually felt quite sorry for her, at other times I just felt an intense dislike for her.

But Marion is out for a fresh start, she has got a wedding planning enterprise just beginning, but it isn't going too smoothly.

She is convinced that her husband Richard's continuing absences from the village, mean he is cheating on her with his work colleague, but nothing could be further from the truth, it's just her insecurities playing into the situation.

But for one last time all the familiar faces from the Cornish village of Penmenna come together to ensure a happy ending for everyone.

Although I really will miss the comings and goings of all the characters in this series, I'm already looking forward to seeing what is coming next from this talented author.

Having read all Kitty Wilson’s Cornish Village School books I approached the last one, Happy Ever After, with mixed feelings. While I was looking forward to it I knew it would be my final visit to Penmenna with all those wonderful characters, belly laughs and Cornish sunshine.

Happy Ever After is Marion’s story. Having been the scourge of the PTA – and indeed the village as a whole – for the entire series – finally she took centre stage with a love story quite unlike the ones which went before. The author's portrayal of a twenty year long relationship rather than a shiny brand new one was sensitive and real, funny and poignant. And for that, I loved this book.

The Cornish Village School - Happy Ever After by Kitty Wilson

Marion is the mother every other mother remembers from their child’s school days. Bossy head of PTA, perfect wife and mother. Marion finds her husband IS having an affair so decides to start a new job venture event planning.

It took time for me to warm to the main characters though we do follow her own personal journey and the things she learns and start to make her a better and more likeable person.

It is beautifully set in Cornwall and well written whilst being last in this series.

I found the book a bit slow to get going and get into but general an ok summer read.

3.5/5

In this instalment we follow the story of Marion. The assertive, somewhat righteous, PTA chair and general perfectionist of Penmenna.

After discovering another woman in her husbands London apartment, Marion finds herself wondering what to do next. Her solution is to throw herself into a new event planning business.

This is the final book in the Cornish Village School series, one that I have enjoyed immensely.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Kitty Wilson's Characters Are So Real

In this last book Marion 's world crumbles when she catches another woman in her husband's apartment.

Always sharp and hard to lease she finds support from people she assumed didn't like her.

As always one of Kitty's great characters gets the wrong end of the stick.

I love how all the people wander in and out of her books. I will really miss them 🤔🤔

Last of a great series but this one for me fell short. All along we were made to think Marion wasn't a nice person and that her husband wasn't either. He ended up being pretty likable and she seemed to have tried to be a better person by the end. It just didn't have the same feeling as the other books so I had a hard time getting through it. I wish there were more though :)

Matt and Rosy get married and life goes on in Penmenna.
Beautifully written and full of emotion, the last visit in the series does not disappoint (apart from being the last). How we will miss everyone!

This has been such a wonderful series. I have loved every one. This last didn’t disappoint with Marian being the main character, in other books she can be frightening, over bearing and a bit of a bully. But this unwraps all that and you know get to know her complexities. A lovely story.

I have loved all 5 books in this series, I even like Marion now after finding her very annoying (I think we were supposed to!!) In the first 4 books. Great easy read books, lovely characters and setting. Recommend to Chic Lit, light read readers.

This one was the best in the series for me. I loved Marion's character arc (how she changed and we could see some aspects from her point of view) and some moments were so funny! I also liked that this book was different to the others in the series and how we saw Richard have to prove himself to Marion rather than a full-on romance plot! I just wished there had been another chapter showing happens next! But it was the perfect end to the series!
