Jax and his people have raided the City of Fallen Souls, but just because you’ve grabbed the loot, doesn’t mean you’re home free…
Once again, Jax has found himself in the thick of it. His party needs to escape, make changes and improve on the incomplete and barely manned ships they stole. With the city, not to mention the Dark Legion , gearing for war, he has only one choice available.
Landfall.
Jax and his people must take the risk of landing aboard the possessed, infested and crumbling Sunken City. They need to move people, resources and more around, while preparing the ships, the new citizens, and hell, Jax needs to meet most of the people who followed him blindly on the promise of a better life.
Not to mention that there’s new skills to learn, professions to level and loot to be had…Welcome to the Sunken City, Welcome to the Prax Glorious Retribution…
Welcome to TITAN!
This is Book 4 of the UnderVerse Series. Please As with all my books, this story is a Dark Fantasy, filled with violence, sexual references, swearing and bad jokes, but no Harems...
4 Books in and the MC is still a god damn dumb ass, this book is just another side quest of Jax knocking himself out out over, over and over. By all rights, he should be dead but the author armor is strong. Also, some people have pointed out and I totally agree. Their is waaaay to much grab ass with Jax and Oracle and it's so god damn awkward as a teenage prom. Then it's at the most inappropriate times. The author just needs to fking stop with that crap because it does nothing for the story. If you can find the story anymore.
I did enjoy this book for the most part but it became a little difficult to believe that the MC and his crew could survive nearly dying every battle which happened back to back without some true rest. This book was a running fight in which the MC came close to death every engagement. I hope the next book does a little more world building and character building rather than a constant fight scene.
Story is a 20 hour filler in a cave with constant fighting. Hate fillers. Fighting is so repetitive fight new monster until out of mana and totalt beaten up, pass out and repeat.
No story or character progression. Almost no magic progression. Just a waste of time. You can skip the book, which I recommend, without missions anything.
For my next trick, I will convince you to read a book in just four words:
COKED-UP MURDER GNOMES.
Without skipping a beat, Titan picks up where City of Fallen Souls left off. I was worried that Titan wouldn't live up to its predecessor but it did. It's difficult to judge whether it is as perfect but it's still riding high. We catch up with Tommy a bit, see Jax take up parts of the imperial mantle while rejecting others and doing things HIS way as well as some clever story-telling that brings us away from the comfortable set-up and leaves the party feeling vulnerable. Also, did I mention the coked-up murder gnomes because I'm pretty sure I did? They're like Gimli and Doc Brown had a love child while living Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas with a side-helping of Trainspotting - then apprenticed them to the War Boys of Mad Max: Fury Road...only nuttier and more savage.
Be warned, since Jax and Oracle consummated their relationship at the end of City of Fallen Souls - this book does contain sex scenes. Thankfully, much like the real thing, they only last a couple of seconds.
I was so close to giving this book 3 stars, but I feel like it found itself near the end and improved. A lot of the dialogue and antagonist characters were cartoonish and broke emersion with just how ridiculously cartoon-villainy they were. Jax's interactions with people still feel forced and unrealistic. His stupidity has reached new heights in this installment. Seriously, he makes some really, really dumb snap decisions that consistently almost kill him and those around him and then just says "my bad" and they move on. I am honestly surprised he hasn't gotten everyone around him killed at this point. The first half to three-quarters of the book was a bit of a slog, but the ending kept things interesting. It does feel like the constant pace of fighting is unrealistic and unsustainable. I understand that conflict needs to be inserted to keep the sense of danger there, but weeks and weeks of constant near-death experiences would add up in a realistic setting. He needs a few weeks or months to slow down. Even his enemies need a realistic timeframe to prepare.
I really like the story, the idea and the world. I don’t like the Oracle/Jax’s constant sex’s mindscape. There are times in the story that they thinking about bonking each other - it’s just impractical or just plain dumb. The other issue I have is the pace of the story. The story isn’t moving forward very much. This book covers less than 10 days. (The time frame is hard to judge, but the book probably only covered 5 days at best. I said 10 just to be generous) The fights scenes are very extensive and detailed. I don’t mind a long fight but if your engaging in a lot of fights there not much of the story being told. Again, I like the story overall and the whole Jax’s and Oracle wanting sex’s all the time is just a bit much for me. I can only hope the story flows a little faster in the next book.
There had been enough time between the last book in this series and this one so it took me a bit to get back into the story. But once I did I was hooked. Often as you get into the 4th book on the author starts to pad to make the series last longer. I don't have that sense here. This wasn't filler and it did move the overall story along nicely. Though I'd thought the author had set up earlier for a kind of underwater reunion that didn't happen here, wasn't a huge miss but we still haven't looped in Jax's dream world adventures to his current efforts. I'm still hoping that is coming. Otherwise great read!
Just had to stop, when MC went stupid again, no progression or learning curve at all over four books, so as I can expect for the same idiocy to happen again and again (most self-inflicted), I decided enough is enough. While this is entertaining, while MC gets going, to keep rescuing MC by inventing spells (which is a deadly risk in itself on normal days, according to a teacher in the first book), or other happenstance, its boring lateron…as no matter what happens, plotarmor will save the day (which would be ok, but the same method again and again…come on, you can do better). Anyhow, thanks for the ride sofar, but I get off here.
The entire series so far is the main character going a thousand miles an hour since crashing into the ground. I enjoy a weak to strong or underdog story as much as the next litrpg fan, it the pace is almost too fast to make any real sense. The world has been crap for years and full of corruption, how is it the chaos of evil can so easily pin point the rising hero who is constantly slipping in on a banana peel to be so effective? Like the book and characters, but sometimes it feels like only a deuce ex plot narrative will save the MC and it’s just not as enjoyable as it could be.
The quality keeps climbing and i spent a good 3rd of this book smiling and chuckling at the ribbing and comradeship happening, another 3rd on the edge of my seat racing to the next page and the other 3rd lost in the scenarios created therein. Well worth the wait and hopefully book 5 is out very very soon like next week perhaps, unrealistic but it is a sign of a good reading experience and so long may it continue.
Jay has been improving his style with every book and this one (a sort of detour from the main story) is the best of the series. He still has some of the defects we are seeing in most of the new authors in the genre; a little too verbose, specially in the main character’s speeches and some repetition in the character building. In any case it remains a fun read and progressing to the point of deserving unreserved 5 stars reviews.
The constant action and plot advancement in this series is amazing. Great dynamic action - reaction content that makes you feel like a part of the story, not just an observer. The characters come alive, and remain personal. When things get too intense some humor is brought in to take the boil to a simmer, before the action cranks up yet again. This would make a great movie or anime series. Definitely recommended (17+)
The main character has gone from strength to strength. I think he’s barely rested in the last three books, only accumulating more “resolutions” to do things differently, more friends, and plenty of enemies.
The only downtime he really gets, and the author indulges his teenage sex fantasies. Ugh. Skip a few paragraphs here and there, and the story doesn’t lose anything.
Jax has accomplished wonders throughout his time in the UnderVerse through grit, determination and the help of his friends. I wonder how Jez Cajiao will bring the brothers back together? I wonder how the battle between Jax's tower and fleet and Nimon's forces will go? And how Jax will accomplish all the other tasks he and his patron has set for him. Cajiao needs to write quickly! :)
The fourth installment in the UnderVerse is another great foray into the unfolding story of Jax. There is non-stop badassery compounded with some great action and fight sequences. Plenty of tongue in cheek humor and a interesting world to play in. All I’m sayin is Gnomes be crazy!
If you like action and LitRPG, the UnderVerse is a good place for you.
Seriously enjoyed it. Especially the fact that I kept looking down thinking it was almost over but I had more to go. And seriously with the cliffhangers left open and unanswered are just cruel. But this book follows the line and story of the others well.
Can’t wait to see what happens between Jax and his brother. These books are too good ( in my opinion). I end up being thrilled to find another has been released only to end up reading it in one or two days because I can’t put it down. Then comes the waiting.
This series is fast becoming my favorite LitRPG stories. Jax is really coming along as the Emperor in training, and his progression is badass. It's going to be interesting to see what happens when the brothers meet, who will figure it out first they are working on separate sides.
This series just keeps getting better and better. I enjoyed the first book I was hooked with a second the third and fourth have made me hope that the fifth is not far away. The story draws you in and suddenly you realize hours have passed and you finished the book. To lose yourself in a story is the son of a great author to me.
Another well written, story driven book about a bad man who has decided to try and be the good guy in a situation not of his choosing. The characters feel real. The story keeps you turning pages and makes you angry when the last one is read because you know you have to wait on the next book.
I don't take time out to write a review unless I actually feel like the book deserves it, but damn did this book force my hand. Incredible narrative with magical world building. It doesn't feel like we're following one protagonist, its more like a wide angle focus of the world, with the protagonist at the center. Definitely deserves the 5 stars
I’m really enjoying this series. The main characters growth has been amazing. The overall storyline has become more complex and enjoyable. The subordinate characters are also fun. There’s some witty banter and a good amount of world building. I’m looking forward to the next book quite a bit.
Another whole book away from the tower. It’s a good read with lots of action. It’s getting a little tiring though that all the villains are pure evil and every battle takes someone to the doorstep of death unless someone develops some new ability. I still enjoy it but after 4 books I kind of want a little more subtlety or nuance
Really enjoying this David vs Goliath, good vs evil series. The MC, Jax is leveling up, developing as a leader and Champion of the god Jaene. Meanwhile and unaware of each other, his twin brother is also leveling up as a soldier in the death god's advanced beachhead force, so the plot thickens as the war between gods begins.
I have actually managed to stop in the middle of the final battle and not care about it. Seriously, watched a movie, went for a walk, and at no point did i care about the characters left in limbo. Started a different book next day, and at no point did I think about anyone in this series. Ill probably stop at book 4 if i can ever force myself to finish the last few pages.
It's a really good book series but to much is happening and in to little time, all he do is fight new enemeis when he should focus a bit moore on Daily life and crafting or just normal fights.
I recommend this book to those that love "The Land" by Aleron Kong. This is a world with constant struggle and growth which is similar and wonderful to enjoy.
We have the MC and his team cracking skulls, adventuring and rushing helter skelter. Not as exciting as the previous 3 but the epilogue does set up the plot for the next book with enough open plot points for expanding the rest of the series.
The good keep getting better, with every new book continuing to push a great cast of characters, emotion, action, magic, lore, and just overall truly excellent world building. Really looking forward to future books by this author.
