Cape May #5

Cape May Summer Nights

Rate this book
It’s that time of year—warm summer nights, boisterous boardwalks, funnel cake and pizza smells. The serenity of quiet evening beach walks; the comfort of a family’s annual get-together; the prospect of new adventures to be experienced.

As Dave settles into his new beach house, Margaret is happy to assist, though she also notices a lot of his decisions lately don’t involve her. She can’t help but wonder if the long-term plans for his future include her and her daughters.

Judy and Bob are excited for family to arrive for their annual Fourth of July vacation, but the couple’s new zest for camping (and unplanned adventures) draw both eye rolls and laughs.

Chris and Sarah are all moved in together at Chris’s house, but Sarah soon finds out they are complete opposites as far as housekeeping expectations are concerned.

Donna meets a new friend who introduces her to the opportunities knocking all around her, while Dale starts a new fun business venture on the Wildwood Boardwalk.

Liz seizes an interior design gig at a new hotel in town, but when she’s forced to work with the owner’s know-it-all niece, she’s in for a battle of wits.

Greg is excited to show off his restaurant when he hosts friends and family for Heirloom’s soft opening but quickly learns that hiring an inexperienced waitstaff could be problematic.

In Book 5 of the Cape May Series, enjoy the summertime and Fourth of July traditions in Cape May with a quirky group of friends and family who will learn the importance of communication and embracing life’s surprises—both big and small.

This is Book 5 in the Cape May series. It is recommended to start at Book 1, The Cape May Garden.

Memorable Quotes: “OK, well you asked for it. I hope you have time because I’m going to be here a while. He leaves his dirty tissues everywhere. He never throws them out. They were all over the coffee table, the bed, beside the trash cans—I found one inside the fridge! How did it even get in there? “That’s not the only thing he leaves everywhere. Let’s talk about his million pairs of shoes. They are strewn throughout the house, and not in a neat, orderly fashion. They are thrown about in the middle of the living room floor, the bedroom floor, and the dining room floor. It’s like he comes in and flings them off to wherever they may land, like a little kid would do. I got up in the middle of the night to pee, and not being able to see where I was walking, I tripped over a set of boots that were placed—wait for this—in the middle of the bedroom floor.”

“Oh, you think that’s funny? I’ve got more. He has a nice big standing hamper, but he never uses it. His dirty clothes are piled next to it or on the chair in the bedroom and in piles next to the washing machine. All he has to do is put it in the hamper! Why is that hard? I feel like I’m living in a barn. “Oh yeah, another thing is he never cleans out his fridge, like ever. I found food that expired months ago in there. His crisper drawer had tons of rotten and moldy produce in it. It’s just gross. I can’t take it, guys.”

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½🏕🏖🚲🎆🇺🇸

My thoughts: I almost forgot it was the Fourth of July. This one has a lot of family interactions I enjoyed that. I also like seeing more of her parents.

Recommend to others: Yes, this would have been 5 solid stars if the story was more complete.

The fifth book in the Cape May series. A quick read about Cape May and Liz, Margaret, friends and family. In this story there is mention of Wildwood boardwalk, Night in Venice in Ocean City and starting a restaurant and a hotel. All of this is what the Jersey shore is all about. My only negative is there isn’t much depth to the story but it is an enjoyable read!

Margaret and Dave take the next Step, Sarah tells Chris he needs to clean up his act, Donna finds a new career path and continues to see Dale and Judy and Bob welcome the whole extended family for July 4th and take up camping... was a fun book!
