For as long as she can remember, Nikki Rose has enjoyed writing stories. For years, writing was just a hobby for this South Carolina native. It was a way to let out all the stories floating around in her head. After one of those stories took on a mind of its own, outgrowing even the parameters of a single book, Rose knew she had to pursue her dream.
Married to her high school sweetheart and best friend, Rose feels she is truly living out a romance story of her very own. As a stay at home mom of two, she is blessed with the time needed to work on her writing career full-time while her kids are at school or in the wee hours while normal people sleep. She considers herself a music-obsessed chocoholic and hopeless romantic who enjoys weaving romance stories with a healthy dose of mystery and suspense.
*Warning* This book contains domestic violence scenes*
One night of passion was all it was supposed to be, but that one night turned out to be more than Alexis ever imagined. When offered a chance at a happy life with the Daniel, the Sherriff in her hometown that has had a crush on her- she decides to give it a go. She was supposed to be living a happy life as a newlywed and a baby on the way but sadly that is just the start of her nightmare.
I will say that it was hard to read about the verbal and physical abuse Alexis faced from Daniel and it brough back memories of someone I knew that went through physical abuse. I’m thankful Alexis had a kind, loving and strong friend as Karen that helped Alexis see that if she didn’t want to do it for herself, she should do it for her daughter-Layla.
As she tries to get away a freak accident leads her to Kevin*Dom*, her one-night stand. The chemistry is still there and Dom not wanting to lose her again, does everything within his ability to keep her safe and with him. The events that follow will have you wanting to get to the end to see if Alexis & Dom get their HEA or of Daniel and his connections will prevail. Be ready for a wild ride with plenty of romance. Kara~ 4 Stars
The premise was mouthwatering, but I was left thirsty.
Romantic suspenses are always a hit or miss with me because the suspense part has to be perfectly plotted, and it isn’t often the case. Here, it was a miss, though not by a lot. Some elements were interesting–the husband’s chase, the conflict between Dom’s agency and the Russian mob–but not enough thought out. All the characters, supposedly smart or well trained professionals or long time criminals, made many mistakes. Sometimes, their decisions made little sense.
As for the romance part, though there were many cute scenes, and I loved the way Dom took care of Alexis’s daughter from day one, I had troubles connecting with the characters. I knew too little about them–I couldn’t even tell you the color of their eyes, or how old they are. Hence the most traumatic events–there are a few–didn’t even make me blink. I was that detached.
Plot holes, inconsistencies, weird behaviors… It was entertaining, but not enough for me to really like it.

- Series: standalone - Hashtags: #romantic suspense #secret pregnancy #second chance - Triggers: domestic violence, cheating, death - Main couple: Alexis Philips & Dom Miller - Hotness: 2/5 - Romance: 4/5 - + I always love a caretaker, and Dom was a great one - – I couldn’t connect with the characters
Lies Between Us was good. The author was able to build up the context of what about to happen which makes the story more engaging. It was an enjoyable read. I like the author's writing style, and I am going to check out another one of her books.
This was an ok book.. I just didn't connect with either of the characters like I wanted to. Plus it was both too fast paced and extremely slow? There were so many plot holes and inconsistencies that these supposedly 'smart' characters kept on making that just took away from the story as a whole. Add to all of this, there was so much telling versus showing, and I just never felt the overwhelming connection between Alexis and Dom, no matter the cute moments they had sprinkled here and there throughout the story.
So Alexis is on the run from her abusive husband -- who also happens to be the sheriff of her small town-- and on the way to her hidey place, she gets in a car accident and her rescuer turns out to be the man whom she had a one night stand with a few years ago -- the same man who lit her world on fire and then disappeared without a trace. Dom doesn't hesitate to take care of both Alexis and her daughter, and although the opening scenes of him figuring out how to use a pack and play (because seriously, all parents have been there. lol) there was just something off about them from the get go. I can't really put on my finger what it was, but it seemed like this author just barley scratched the surface with all of these delicate topic they deserved: domestic violence, mafia connections, parenthood, learning to love freely without the constant mental manipulation.. it just all fell flat to me.
This wasn't the worst book I've read by far, but it's far from my favorite either. I do applaud the author for trying her hand at such a book though, and Dom is totally worth the three stars!
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!**
Alexis wanted to fully embrace her vacation and live on the wild side for just one night, and she found a handsome stranger to share it with. One night of fun, fake names, no phone numbers and no plan to see one another again. Which sounded great at the time, but then a few months later when she found out she was expecting she wished she had not insisted on anonymity. Being a single mother had never been her plan, panicked and alone she made a decision that would change the course of her life... and not in a good way.
Now she is a woman on the run, hoping to escape her powerful husband and in search of a safe place to raise her daughter. Then accident happens and throws her life in a tailspin again...
Lies Between Us is a dramatic and thrilling tale that will keep you on your toes the whole way through. This poor heroine finds more trouble than good, every time things in her life start to settle down, something dangerous crops and puts her life in a tailspin. Good thing she has a sexy hero to save her! I enjoyed this one, it was action-packed, emotional, steamy, and good on the heart! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
4.5 stars! Alexis has her first one Night stand and it was everything she wanted it to be. When she finds out she's pregnant she tries to find him but can't and that leads her to a crappy marriage. When she finally escapes she ends up in Dom's care by chance. These two definitely have chemistry and Dom is amazing with Layla. These two go through so much in such a short period of time ... I was shocked they could keep up with all that happened.
The first time Dom had met Alexis was when he was undercover in Miami and it was her last night there. Fast forward to two years later, Alexis is in a nightmare of a marriage. Because of some circumstances she thought that getting married to a man that she didn't really like all that much was her best option especiall when she couldn't find Dom who gave her his undercover name. Dom comes across her after she gets into an accident while being on the run from her husband. Turns out that they both had feeling for each other from that one night they had together. They finally get their happy ending together after quite a few things had happened I guess. The ending seemed like it's too open ended and leaves way to much to the readers imagination on what happens to them in the future. Between the two of them they both had told each other a lie. However they do work past that. I don't want to give away Alexis's lie as I don't want to spoil the reading for others all that much.
I love all of Nikki Rose's romantic suspense, and LIES BETWEEN US is no exception. LIES is the story of Dom and Alexis, who have a one-night stand. Years later, when Alexis has to escape a bad marriage, Dom helps her, and her adorable daughter Layla, out. Dom and Layla are so cute together and form a quick bond, as Dom and Alexis rekindle their romance. I love how Ms. Rose keeps the major conflicts between the couple and the real antagonists, and not between our hero and heroine.
Of course, it wouldn't be a Nikki Rose book without some sort of adventurous plot, so when Alexis gets kidnapped and wakes up in a trunk, it's Dom to the rescue. Dom is the perfect hero, sort of a beta-alpha. With Alexis, he's totally into the relationship and her from the start, incredibly sweet and sensitive to her needs, which I loved. But he's also a tough guy, an explosives expert and secret agent, out to save the world.
I loved LIES BETWEEN US and hope you give the story a chance, if you love steamier romance mixed with danger and heroics. (Content warning for scenes of domestic violence).
I went into this book thinking it was about one thing and it turned out to be something else... kinda. I even reread the synopsis to see if I missed this little bit of information. Because I had no clue there was going to be Russian gangsters going on. I know the synopsis says suspenseful. But I figured it was the domestic violence. I was feeling this book up until that little bomb dropped.
I wanted the focus to be about Alexis running and Dom finding out about his daughter. But this whole Russian gangster angle... overtook the whole storyline. I wasn’t feeling it. I wish it would’ve been disclosed in the synopsis and the blog sign up. Because I probably wouldn’t have signed up for it. So going into the story... oh man...
I’m not getting why Alexis wasn’t telling Dom about Layla. I mean... Alexis wasn’t even thinking about it. Nothing.... especially when she started to stay with Dom. Why drag it all out. There were perfect opportunities to open up to Dom and tell him everything. He had to find out himself. I hated that.
And as I read on. I hated how this book was unfolding. It was kind of predictable . Alexis was starting to get on my nerves. Her husband was involved with Russian gangsters. He already kidnapped her and her daughter once. And now she’s throwing a temper tantrum because Dom questioned her about her husband.
Her bright idea was to go out for the day with her daughter to think. Knowing people wanted to get her. Man.... this book went from a 5 star all the way down to 3 star fast for me. And I’m on the 60% Mark.
Then we have the death of Dom’s brother Collin. Because of the Russian mafia. And the shoot out at his funeral. Alexis getting shot. And finally at the 73% mark. Dom and Alexis finally have sex. Making it only 2 sex scenes so far in this book. The first time they met, then at a safe house. Where he has to kinda convince her. Because she didn’t want to do anything she was still married. And I hated the timing of it too. They just had his brother’s funeral that day... and alexis was shot and Dom got into a fight with the hit man. Then more towards the end of the book, they have sex again. So a total of 3 sex scenes in this book.
There was a lot going on in this book. The main focus wasn’t on Dom and Alexis. The domestic violence could’ve played I think a bigger part in the story. But what overtook this story was the Russian gangsters, special agents, death. All I wanted was a nice read about a one night stand pregnancy and the main characters reconnecting. And then dealing with her psycho husband.
This was just way out there! This book wasn’t for me.

The premises of Lies Between Us is something that I love, a one-night stand, a secret baby, two people finding each other again because they were meant to be. HELLO! Romance all in one book. Of course, I jumped at the chance of reading this one. But yea, none of that was here for me.
I felt no chemistry between Alexis and Dom at all, not even for the one-night stand. Once Alexis was living with her husband I felt bad for her with what she was going through, but then I really felt nothing for her. I had no emotional connection to any of these characters at all.
Even Dom, the alpha male that you want to root for with everything seemed kind of doll. He just seemed to go through the motion. I mean it wasn't till almost the end of the book that he even thought that the kid was his. And it took one of his friends to even question it. HELLO! The kid is right in front of you, and the right age and you don't even question this. And you are supposed to be a DEA agent?
I am sure someone will enjoy this book, but it just didn't hit any marks for me.
Alexis is in Miami, wanting to do something she's never done, have a one night stand. Dom, who is undercover and trying to prevent his mark from drugging Alexis, makes a bet that he can leave with her.
Instant chemistry and a sexy dance later, Dom and Alexis leave together. They then break all the one night stand rules with one simple word, "stay."
After Alexis walks out the next morning, they both spend the next two years thinking about that night and how things could have been. Fate brings them together again all while enemies of both of them do everything they can to keep them apart.
Just when I thought the drama, twists, turns, and heart pounding moments had come to an end - BAM here's some more. Each page, up until the very last one, had something that just made me go "oh my gosh."
This book was PHENOMENAL. I definitely recommend you grabbing this one and getting lost in the love story that is Dom and Alexis.
Woohoo Nikki Rose absolutely 💯% knocked this book out of the ball park. This book has it all from second chances to action packed and suspense and Russian mobs , crooked police chemistry and romance and heartbreak and omg warning you will need tissues with this book. This book will have you hanging on to every word and valid trigger warning in the beginning of the book. Alexis and Dom meet and have a one night stand and 2 years later he finds her again but this time with alot more problems going on but can he protect her? Dom is absolutely fantastic and I so wish I could find a man like him but I will be happy to share with Alexis hehe. Dom is under cover when he meets Alexis and one night of passion he can't forget but when chasing after Russian people can he keep everyone around him safe? Trust me this book is a absolute must read and I don't know how Nikki can make me ugly cry in her books but dang every single time lol congratulations on another Fantastic Hit!
First if you have triggers be warned. I really enjoyed this book. It was so good. I'm loving this author more with each book that I read from her. Dom and Alexis were fantastic and little Layla was as well. Such a great plot to this book. This book was packed full of action and how wonderful it is to have an alpha hero but of course the heroin was quite kick butt herself. There was a lot of different emotions in this book, between heartbreak, fear, lust, chemistry to love. Got to love a hea. Such a great ending.
Ahhh this book surprised me in the very best way. I was so invested from cover to cover that I had to force myself to put my tablet down at times, as I was scared I was going to break it every time something else happened. This book was amazing and had a bit of everything, including the adorable Layla. It was everything I was expecting and so much more. With both characters and plot the author runs you through a gamut of emotions with no reprieve. Definitely recommend.
oh my goodness! Where do I even start with this one? You get all the emotions jammed packed in this book. I am in love with the 2 main characters. It's a must read for sure!
Alexis meets Dom and has a wonderful one night stand. Weeks later she finds she’s pregnant. She can’t find Dom so she ends up in a violent marriage with someone that she didn’t love. Two years later, she is ready to run. What will happen to get? Will she be able to be safe? Or will she be in danger forever?
This romantic suspense will have you on the edge. It is a standalone and is so worth the time to read this fantastic story! I love all of Nikkis writings and I know you will too! Now this story does have triggers you have been warned! IT is so good! I know you will be enjoying!
Another excellent read by my friend Nikki Rose. This book is not in a series.
Alexis had a one night stand that ended with no number exchange and a Bunin the oven. With no other choice, she marries the chief of police, who steps up to the plate. Little did she know her life would turn into a nightmare. After running away with her daughter, she has an accident that brings back a blast from the past.
Dom is on the way home when he comes across an accident involving a woman and child. Little does he know his life will drastically change and he will try and protect her with everything he has. But will it be enough?
This book has all the great aspects of a sexy thriller. It has hot one night stand, mixed with abuse, danger and then love. What more could you ask for? Yes this book has some triggers such as domestic abuse and more. But yet it is thrilling an edge of your seat read, that will have you biting your nails one minute and relieved the next. Once you embark on this journey, you will not want to stop.
Alexis is a brave and strong character. She endures a lot throughout the book. Dom is strong, brave, alpha sexy male, whom is very protective in nature. The two characters have an amazing chemistry. Great characters make for excellent stories.
If you want a semi dark read with an amazing story line, then this book is for you. Hero to lover read!
So much potential! Characters were written decently enough. I would recommend more development of the storyline. I commend the author for delving into hard topics such as physical/emotional abuse and single parenting.
This book was a great mixture of sweet feelings between the two main characters, and action and drama coming from the abusive husband.
So Alexis and Dom have a one night stand. Alexis discovers she’s pregnant and tries to find Dom, but he’s away on a mission and the apartment they used was only temporary for him while he was undercover on a case. She doesn’t know his name or address, and so she realises she can’t find him. A local police officer who is sweet on her offers to marry her and raise the baby as her own, an offer she accepts. Later, the police officer becomes abusive, but how do you deal with an abusive husband when he’s also the law? She runs. And just happens to run straight into Dom, the father of her baby.
For me, that felt like an enormous coincidence. Yes, I know coincidences happen, but this felt unbelievably manufactured. And then,
But as it turns out, yes, just a crazy, unbelievable coincidence. Riiiiiight.
There were a few other little issues. Not major ones, but just little niggles. One was that Dom and Alexis set this one-night stand up on a pedestal. Like, if they’d only had more time together at the beginning, their lives would have been this perfect storybook romance (if you’ll forgive the phrase). But it was always meant to be a one-night stand. And yeah, okay, romances can develop from one-night stands, sure, but why keep lamenting it and going on about it? It didn’t happen, you can’t change the past, let’s all move on.
I know we only had one night together, but it was wonderful. I knew from the moment I first saw you in the club that you were special. It wasn’t just about the sex, there was something about you, some unexplainable factor that drew me to you. The minute we left my apartment, I regretted letting you go.
If you had found me back then, do you think we would have ended up married?
Another was
Alexis at one point decides that she and the baby will be better off on their own. Which is laughable. Dom literally found her in a ditch, and she had no money, no friends and nowhere to go. He’s treated her honorably, and hasn’t charged her a cent for food or rent.
Layla and I have done just fine until now and we’ll continue to do fine when we are back on our own.
Um, no, you weren’t doing fine. You were being beaten and abused, then you were on the run. You crashed your car, so you don’t have a vehicle, you have no money, no friends to help… I’m not saying there aren’t options. You don’t need a man to save you. You can go to a women’s refuge or similar, there are places out there to help. But don’t say you were doing fine. You were in a ditch with a head injury. Am I the only one who remembers that?
Technically, this book includes cheating because Alexis is still married to her husband, but she has left him by the time she meets up with Dom again. She is still married though. Unless you only consider cheating to be when they actually have sex, and then maybe it’s technically not. But either way, it treads a line, so if that’s a trigger for you, that’s something to consider.
Overall, I rated this book three stars. The little niggles kept me from rating it higher, but I enjoyed the drama and action scenes, I thought the couple were sweet, and Dom’s friends were a great addition to the story as secondary characters.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Dom Miller works undercover and is an explosive expert. On a job he ends meeting Alexis Jones at a club and sparks fly and he has never forgotten about her.
Two years later Alexis along with her daughter Layla has managed to escape her abusive relationship with Police Chief Deputy Daniel Phillips. She knows she has to do whatever she can to cover her tracks as Daniel has contacts that can trace her anywhere.
When a car accident derails Alexis she finds herself face to face with Dom who promises to protect Alexis and Layla.
Yet how far is Daniel's reach and will both Alexis and Dom finds themselves with in more danger than they thought possible?
This was a great book and I really enjoyed it!
I loved Alexis and I gave her so much credit for escaping but she definitely didn't give Daniel enough credit for how far he would go. Alexis was strong and I loved how protective she was of Layla and how she was willing to give Dom a chance to prove himself but she was also well aware that legally she was still married.
Dom was awesome and I loved his protective side. Due to the nature of his job he had his own enemies but felt he was the best one to protect Alexis and Layla. I liked that he had his boss behind him and I think he definitely could have used his buddies more than he did.
There was so much chemistry between the two of them but also so much hanging over them. They needed to get Alexis safe and divorced before they had a chance at a future.
I was definitely surprised at who Daniel aligned himself with but he wanted revenge so bad that nothing really surprised me. I was surprised at the events at the end and was so mad at Ivan!! I was very proud of Alexis for doing what she had to in order to survive!
The very end was awesome! Glad these two have each other and of course Layla!
After reading the blurb for Lies Between Us, I knew it was going to be my first title from Nikki Rose. I really wanted to love it but there was just something that I struggled to connect to. That being said, I was rooting for Alexis from the start.
I liked Alexis the first time I met her. But somewhere in the gap before we see her again, life and circumstance brought her down. Gone was the confidence she had that night with Dom. Thank goodness for her friend that was willing to risk it all to help her. So imagine her surprise when she runs into Dom again. It was the first time she had felt safe in years and he made it his mission to keep her safe. I really liked seeing her spark come back. Too bad the past she was running from wouldn't let her go.
Alexis and Dom's second chance love story was intense and chaotic. The suspense was great, the danger was there in spades. I was holding my breath during the final dramatic showdown waiting to see how it would all shake out. But there was so much going on. Almost too much with the overlapping story lines and it took away from the romance for me. I wanted more time with Alexis and Dom just being together and getting to know one another as who they were now.
I LOVE the opening scene!! I had so many questions and they were answered 😍
Alexis & Layla her daughter and Dom does not know about her. Because it was accidentally pregnancy from a hot one night stand. Now she with a TWAT of a husband.
My favourite is how they reunite a storm brought them back together back. Fate definitely wanted them together and a father & daughter finally meet. Their first moment together warmed my heart 🥰
Now I was the edge of my seat on will her husband find her. What's does Dom do in special ops in the present? Love his brother Collin and....no spoilers
I love her best friend Karen and friend Melissa takes her in at home in the Big City so Daniel won't find her. BUT that...no spoilers
I love their romance so much its a rebuild on trust and then friendship and then lovers. My heart melted alot with family moments. Especially when she says da-da at the window 🥰 yes I focused on the adorable heart warming moment but I was still on edge now what's going to happen next. I am still recovering from...no spolier
☆MUST READ & FAVOURITE☆ Suspense military romance. I was never bord with this one
I liked the plot but the story felt a bit too rushed. I didn't connect with the characters and much of the scenes were talked about rather than shown. There isn't much scenes depicting Alexis home life and her running away happens a couple of chapters into the book. The story does focus more on Dom and Alexis's relationship. They met initially for a short period of time then, two years later due to an unfortunate accident Dom enters into her life again. He becomes her savior from her abusive husband and is deemed "the one that got away". Alexis and Dom both kept secrets from each other but as they begin explore their initial feelings they confess their truths to one another later in the story. Alexis' husband causes a lot of issues in their lives and Dom's job is connected to some of the drama.
Lies Between Us was a story that was impossible for me to put down for anything as I needed to know everything. I want to reiterate the warning about triggers because there are some pretty big ones with domestic abuse. Alexis goes out one night to end up with a one night stand with a man named Kevin, and it's a super hot night. Little did she know that she was left a party favor from that night when the test came up positive, but when she went to find him to let him know, she was unsuccessful at finding him again. See, his name really isn't Kevin, it's Dom and Dom was undercover so he was gone when the case was put to bed. Alexis ends up marrying a man in law enforcement, but that man is so evil & the abuse is brutal so her friend finally helps her get out of there. As fate would have it, she ends up face to face with Dom (her Kevin) and he offers her help, so the crazy ride of suspense really takes off as her past & his current case collide. Will he be able to keep her & their tiny human safe?! You know what to do to find out! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I am such a sucker for secret/surprise baby romances and what Nikki Rose gives us is something that is passionate but also high paced, laced with intrigue and a great storyline. My heart ached for Alexis after an epic night with a mystery man. Then she thought she was doing what would have been best for her and her daughter, however she was so wrong. Her leaving set off a crazy chain of events that will have you asking yourself did that just happen to utter swooning because Dom is just sin on a stick. With Dom, I loved his connection with Alexis and how things played out with them. The way they worked to trust each other and get to know each other felt very real. Once things implode, things are exposed, lots of pain and heartache, there are some great twists in this story that will keep you on your toes and honestly devouring this book! As Rose is a new to me author, I really enjoyed every part of this book and will be totally diving into the author’s backlist now!
This was my first book by Nikki Rose and it was freakin' fantastic! A non-stop rollercoaster from the first page! The storyline was great and it was super fast paced. Alexis was super resilient and always did what she thought was best for her daughter, even if it may not be the best for her. She was really sweet and just wanted to straighten her life out despite the curveballs she’d been given. Dom was everything Alexis needed and it was awesome how he had been pining for her since their one night stand. The only thing that felt off was the conflict between the two of them was a little contrived, but definitely not off-putting to my overall enjoyment of the book. I’ll definitely be looking for more by this author!
Trope: Second chance/secret baby Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Angst: 😰😰😰/5 Smexy: 🔥🔥/5 Triggers: Domestic abuse/death of a sibling
Alexis is on vacation, she just wants one night to let her hair down, one night where she can be someone else. Alexis definitely has a night to remember, fake names and no phone numbers only her one night leaves her with more than she bargained for. She never planned to be a single mum so feeling alone she makes a decision that will turn her life upside down and eventually force her and her daughter to run. Alexis needs somewhere safe but she soon finds herself and her life spiralling once again only this time could it lead her back into the arms of the man she can never forget and how will he feel when he discovers he has a daughter.
A heartbreaking and maybe a little hard to read story at times but I will definitely be reading more from Nikki Rose in the future.
Dom and Alexis take us on a drama filled ride filled with danger and suspense. They have one night. He is finishing up an undercover assignment and she is on vacation with her girlfriends. Two years later she is on the run from an abusive husband with her young child and he returns home just in time to save her. They have to battle her crazy husband and Russian gangsters to get their HEA. A lot of action and suspense. A plus is that the lies are in the beginning. His name by necessity and later she kept her baby’s paternity secret( not long). There was no keeping secrets to “protect” the other person. Alexis tried to keep her and her child safe and made mostly sound decisions. Usually we see the heroine running from safety straight to danger because a silly decision.
