After the thrilling events in Forever Warriors, the five California teenagers with extraordinary abilities are in more danger than ever. Three Rageto elders have come together to end the breakout of new heroes, and the ancient Amartus warriors that helped them before are missing. They must face this new threat alone. This time, new allies appear, but many more enemies are hiding in the shadows, ready to strike. No one is safe, not even their families. New truths about the ancient struggle come to light, but will it be enough to save them? No choice is easy and danger is everywhere, and the world will be changed forever.
I am a lifelong writer in many genres. My novels and non-fiction work share the theme of exploring dark, unexplored places. That sounds pretentious, I know. Mostly I make up stories and write them down. There is a special sub-conscious alchemy that is happening, but don’t look at me; I have no idea how it works. Whether it’s boys chosen to be king, giant monsters attacking, kids with seemingly magical powers or just an unraveling of deeply held assumptions, I write to explore. My only rule: It must be a great story.
3.50 confusing stars. (And an extraordinary amount of editing errors, including misused and missing words!)
The warriors are back to face new enemies. Too many enemies!
The beginning of book two takes up were book one ended, which, since I read book one months ago, I feel like I should have re-read book one. At least the ending so I would understand what was happening at start of book two. But having not done so, the start of The Edge of Destiny was terribly confusing for the first few chapters.
Teens Zacke, Cody, Ariana, Katie and Lucas (Amartus Warriors) are back with their special personal powers, but so are the three Elders (Rageto). And the Elders want the powerful teens eliminated!
But new allies arrive to help the five teens, along with higher numbers of enemies. And to compound matters for the teens, the ancient Amartus warriors from the first book are nowhere to be found! The teens must fight this upcoming battle basically on their own!
The characters are more fleshed out in this book, but world building is limited to the many places the story takes place. The dialogue is appropriate; humorous, at times snarky and desperate for the Amartus. The dialogue for the Rageto is cruel, filled with hate and vengeance. And this time the Elders will stop at nothing, even the families of the teens, to extract their vengeance.
Except for all the misspelled words and the misuse of words, this was a fairly great 2nd book. Some great one on one conversations and more importantly some explanations.
