A family, a place they love. A house, a horse, a dog they adore. But also a malady, a contagion, a sickness of one infecting the others. This is a story of Eden won and lost., of humanity frail and flawed, of people trying hard to get it right and earn their way back home. But small victories can lead to redemption, as defeats build character.
This book was such a struggle for me to get through. I lost count how many times I put it away only to pick it back up again with the end goal of just finishing it. If this wasn’t written in the 3rd person I think I would’ve enjoyed it better; I’m not sure. Timmy has a rough life growing up. Being the second oldest of four boys he had to grow up pretty quickly. The first half of the book just seemed like the ins and out of his day was just being written out. It read as if someone was narrating a show; as if the subtitles of his life was produced into a book. Although there were points in the story where I understood his upbringing through personal experiences, I can’t say that I enjoyed this book or would recommend it.
DISCLOSURE: I received this book through the Goodreads Giveaways. Thank to Goodreads for the ARC. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
This was a Good reads book I had won. I don't know if this was his first book the author has written but, it had a lot of holes in it and some areas were left hanging but then again as the style it was written it did have the feel as someone sitting there trying to describe their very strange childhood and how any of them survived. I did like it and felt so sad and angry for the people in the book.
This is an achingly honest telling of the oft fragile threads that hold a family and its members together. Wonderful, evocotive writing. This e-book was received from Goodreads.
This story reads like a poor man's Grapes of Wrath. However, the author is no Steinbeck. Not a bad read, if you like stories set in the mid 20th century.
A Wonderful read by ‘T.B. O’Neal. The Story of a little boy named Timmy. The book tells the story of the struggles of his Mother and Fathers domestic issues. Timmy and his brother endured a tough childhood often witnessing their alcoholic fathers rage and abuse towards their mother.
I won a kindle copy of this book in a ‘Goodreads Giveaway’.
Wow! This story, proves that some people should not have kids.
A man and woman marry. Dysfunctional relationship. They bring kids into it. Drinking, domestic violence, moves around the country. Infidelity, and another child born. Not the same Dad as the other three.
It’s sad but true accounting a family life, the ups and downs that families face. Very slow moving hard to really I want to keep reading, but out of respect for Timmy and his story I continue to read.
Won this book in Goodreads. Not sure what the author was trying to get across to the reader. Was it the struggles of day to day life, challenges a boy faces growing up or having alcoholic parents? Not sure .. but the book was a struggle for me to finish and I probably won’t read the next book to find out how things turn out.

This a memoir. The story of little Timmy's early years with his very dysfunctional family. It is a sad story with little hope. His father is an alcoholic and his mother drinks. The children have to fend for themselves. The story is very slow going and that made it boring in places and hard to read. I would quite like to know what happened to Timmy in his later years and there is a sequel but I can't be bothered to seek it out.
