His first love is back—with a secret—in this sizzling new Guthrie Brothers novella Colt Guthrie’s high school sweetheart left town six years ago without a backward look. Charish almost broke him then, and he doesn’t plan to let her finish the job now that she’s suddenly back in Clearbrook. The only thing he wants from Charish is closure. But grown-up Charish is tempting as hell, and with her compassion for an injured stray dog, there’s no denying the way she still gets under Colt’s skin. Letting Colt go was the hardest thing Charish ever did. Keeping him at arm’s length now runs a close second. Their chemistry is explosive, despite his wariness. But when Colt learns the real reason she’s back, will he be the one to walk away—or can this sizzling summer be the start of something entirely new?Don't miss the other titles in the Guthrie Brothers series, including Don't Tempt Me and Worth the Wait.

’ve enjoyed the Guthrie Brothers series and was delighted to pick up the novella. I loved heading back to Clearbrook and this second chance romance hit the spot.

While we met both Colt and Charish previously, getting their story was a treat. Fans and newcomers alike can read this, but I think those who have read the series will appreciate it more. The first two full-length novels: Don’t Tempt Me and Worth the Wait were fantastic.

Charish left Clearbrook six years ago with her family and broke Colt’s heart. He’s tried to get over her but hasn’t had a serious relationship since. So when he spies her moving into her old homestead, he is determined to keep her or get closure. Charish is setting down roots for a reason. Can these two reconnect?

I loved their story from the chemistry to the reason Charish moved back to town. Cute dogs and townfolk added to the tale, particularly Charish’s neighbor and realtor. I’d like to get her romance.

If you love second chances, cute dogs and off the chart chemistry, you’ll love this short and sweet romance.

Loved this! It was so much fun going back to visit everyone in Clearbrook. Colt and Charish were everything I had hoped for. Their story was so heartfelt. This being one of Lori’s benefit books was even better.

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.

This is a story of another manwhore getting a happily ever after. Colt and Charish were high school sweethearts when her family had to move they tried the keeping in touch but after a few years they stopped. This broke both their hearts and of course it turned Colt into a total manwhore. He had to protect his heart, couldn’t risk getting hurt again, blah, blah, blah.
The book starts with him in Heidi’s bed, she is his friends with benefits. He wakes from “a long, lust-filled night with her”. Poor guy is perturbed because when he looked out Heidi’s window he saw Charish’s old house, yup right next door. And he thought, “It annoyed him to wake with one beautiful woman, a woman who’d wrung him out, only to dwell on another.” Seriously!
Heidi leaves for work, our hero (eye roll) sees a woman unloading boxes from a minivan and goes to help, he’s surprised to find it’s Charish. He’s shocked, she’s shocked. And it’s awkward as hell, cause he’s only in jeans and it’s obvious he just rolled out of bed. He helps her, she is trying to rush him out when Heidi shows up with a housewarming gift, she senses there is something between Colt and Charish and is cool with it. He continues helping her unpack and finds out she’s pregnant. The baby daddy didn’t want anything to do with the baby so he signed away his rights and Charish is going to raise the baby herself.
Colt takes her to see his parents at their diner, the rest of the family is there too. They are meeting with Heidi and Dave, her new conquest, now that Colt’s not available to meet her need. Colt and Charish spend more time together and they have sex that night without a condom!! This woman is a nurse, he was in another woman’s bed two nights ago. She is just assuming he wore a condom with his fuck buddy. I guess they thought since she can’t get pregnant it didn’t matter?
He holds his feelings close and so does she it until he tells her the baby she’s having could have been his if she hadn’t dumped him. She tells him she didn’t dump him she let him go because she couldn’t come back to him, he grandmother was sick and died and then her father got cancer and died. Her mom needed her. Her life was falling apart, but at no time does our hero go to her, he just lets the relationship die. When their calls slow down and eventually stop he did nothing. Except climb on top of other women and bemoan his lost love. She tells him she loved him then and still loves him. Now he can say it back too. They get married and she delivers a baby boy. Everyone is happy.

I’m totally going to double standard here, I really liked Heidi, she was a smart, ambitious, beautiful woman who owned her sexuality and her pleasure, she actually demanded it. Plus she was really nice and friendly. I had to respect that, she was a badass.
This was a funny and slightly awkward conversation between Dave the prospective new fuckboy and Colt, past fuckboy, (past by only two days):

Dave waited only until they were far enough away from the women. “You two are over?” Deliberately misunderstanding, Colt replied, “Me and Charish? Not by a long shot.”
Dave slowly grinned. “I didn’t mean Charish, but that pretty much answers the question, too.” Shaking his head, Colt said, “You know Heidi and I are just friends.” How many times would he have to say that before people started to believe him?
“Friends who slept together.”
Did he need a reminder of that? No. “Any particular reason why you’re bringing that up?” Eyeing him, Dave said, “Heidi said she didn’t want to start out with lies.”
“Bet she also told you it didn’t mean anything.”
Disgruntled, Dave said, “Not exactly.”
Oh hell.
“She sang your praises, man. According to her, you’re fucking amazing, one of the best guys she knows—”
Hands full, anxious to get back to Charish, Colt interrupted with “But?” Dave scowled. “She said you’re not the one for her.”
“There you go.” Grinning, Colt shoulder-bumped Dave. “Says it all, right?”
“Maybe.” Dave stared him in the eyes. “I wanted to hear it from you.”
Shaking his head, Colt started walking again. “I think Heidi is terrific, too. Motivated and smart, and she has a big heart. But like she said, she’s not the one for me. She’s also up-front and confident. When she wants something, she says so.”
“She claims to want me.”
Colt shrugged. “Take her at her word.”
“I do.”
Stepping ahead of Colt, Dave opened the door for him. Since it was a service entrance, he didn’t follow him inside. “It’s odd, you know? She’s the woman I want, and you’re a good friend...”
“That should cover it. I am a good friend. Do you honestly think I’d do that to you? Or that Heidi would?”
“Like I said, it’s odd.”
“Don’t let it be. Just go for it.”
Dave looked back at Heidi, now leaning over the table to say something to Charish that had her laughing. “You know, I think I will.” He gave Colt a nod. “Thanks.”
“No problem.” As Colt deposited the dishes in the sink and grabbed four refills, he decided he should take his own advice. And go for it. (With Charish).

Do people really talk like that? Like Dave said odd.

This could have been a sweet story but I just didn’t like Colt, he was definitely not the teen from the previous two books. I get it he was hurt but he didn’t do anything to stop the hurt, he didn’t reach out to Charish who was dealing with a lot. I liked her, she was dealt a crappy hand but she continued on and kept doing the best she could. Although she could have talked to Colt instead of making a big decision that affected both of them.

Colt has been a favorite character since the book he was a teen in. Love Charish too. Thank you for writing about a nice girl. I’m getting annoyed w stupid , mean heroines in books. Lovely story. So glad you gave Colt and Charish a happy ending! I advise you read the other book w Colt and Charish as teens to get the full benefit of this story. Love it! First great book I’ve read in a while. Just lovely.

Awesome read

Wow! Colt grew up great. So glad he got his own story and that he and Cherish got back together. I wish the story was a lot longer as I could read about this family for much longer than a novella. Lori Foster hits it out of the park again. I would recommend this story to any adult reader that loves a second chance romance.

Charish and Colt were high school sweethearts but she left when her family moved away. She just moved back to town and Colt is thrilled while Charish keeps him at arm's length. She has her reasons and when he finds out what they are will he run or will he accept them.

I loved this story and add in two dogs, characters from the other Guthrie novels, and well you have a fun, fast, read that has some sweet moments as well as some tender moments. I love these short Novellas and the fact that Ms. Foster gives back by donating the proceeds to her favorite charities involving animals.

Great short story about old flames reconnecting

Colt has gotten on with his life after Charish moved sway. But he didn't realize how much he missed her until she moved back. However she has a secret she is afraid will scare him away. Watching them renew their friendship and try to keep their hands off each other was fun. This is a very quick read, but doesn't seem unrealistic since they both had been so close before she left.

The pace is fast and the tone is hopeful with a character oriented storyline that has a little steam. You don't have to read the other Guthrie Brothers stories to get this. However, I think I may go back and re-read them just to see what I have forgotten. Enjoy!

Colt and Charish

Sweet Summertime Beach Read.
Second chance for these two. They seem so young haha, maybe because Colt's dad and Uncle are part of this series in the first books.
Loved coming back to the Guthrie Brothers, the family closeness, the small-town atmosphere. There's a whole lot packed in this novella with love, fur babies, laughs and yes, a bit of heat as well! Excellent reading!

Loving and reading about Colt’s dad and uncle’s HEA’s in the previous two books of the series (Worth the Wait and Don't Tempt Me) I was thrilled to see whom Colt would end up! Charish was the perfect fit!! This second chance, smexy novella was a fun evening read filled with banter, furbabies, and an amazing support system of friends and family. With proceeds going to an animal shelter this is a double win:)

Waited so long

I have loved Colt since Don't tempt me, his uncle's story and Worth the Wait, his Dad's. This family is goals for sure and I'm so glad he finally got his own happiness! I'm not giving away the story... Read it and enjoy! If you haven't read the other two, don't deprive yourself of that. This family is awesome! And add to that, this book is a benefit for the shelter, it's a win-win! Thanks Lori, for giving him his own HEA... Unconventionally, but perfectly.

I was so happy when I spotted this book. I loved Colt in his uncle's and father's book and was happy when he got his own. This is a second chance for him and Cherish and I was glad for it. You didn't really think that much about their relationship before other than they are kids and it's first love for them both.

In Colt, you really find that they had more then-teenage love. They had an ever-lasting love. What started out sweet and cute turned into loving and forever.

Because this is a second chance romance you don't feel cheated with the small page count. You already know how they feel about each other right away. You can see how much they still care. They do have a few things to work out since they left everything up in the air with Cherish and her family just leaving but what's between them doesn't stop them from falling for each other all over again.

I think you'll enjoy this story and see why Colt and Cherish's love has lasted throughout the time they were apart. This is a sweet story that you'll totally enjoy.

𝐎𝐤𝐚𝐲, 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥 𝐦𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐢 𝐅𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐬𝐨 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐨 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐩𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐬?! 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐥𝐲, 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐨 𝐢𝐭?

𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐡 are full, rich characters who experience so many emotions. However, unlike some novella/short stories, it doesn't feel forced or rushed. It's a nice, leisurely stroll through the lives of two interesting people.

Colt has pretty much sworn off love because the last time he gave his heart to someone, she left him behind. Imagine his surprise when he looks across the street to find her moving back into her old house.

Charish had no choice; she had to leave. Which meant walking away from the only man she's ever loved. Now, finally, it's HER time, so she returns to the small town that has always felt like home. But when she runs into Colt on her first day back, she wonders if they can ever be friends again or if that's really all she wants?

Circumstances forced them apart, will true love bring them back together?

Do yourself a favor and grab up this novella. Not only will you be getting a wonderful story, but the advance and all royalties for the book go directly to the Animal Adoption Foundation; www.aaf.pets.org

Colt was a stand-out character in the Guthrie Brothers series, so I was so happy to learn that he got his own HEA with Charish. The story moves fast, but provides a great arc of the characters deciding what's most important to them.

The paperback version also includes "Jax," the story of Briana, the youngest daughter of Gabe Kasper (Buckhorn Brothers) and her love interest, Jax Remmy. It's a great forced proximity story with a big HEA.

I also liked that both stories included a rescued dog.

Enjoyable!

A story of second chances, new beginnings, finding true love, home, and a HEA. When Colt finds out his first love, Charish, is back in town, a part of him is thrilled, but another part of him wants a little revenge for the way things ended six years earlier. That feeling quickly passes, though, and the two find that their feelings have only grown stronger for each other. This was a quick read.

Entertaining as always, but...

I love Lori Foster's books, this series, & this parricular book. IMHO, everything she's written is solid gold. My only problem is there has been so much time between the 2 other books I'm this series & this one. It took me a bit of reading to reacquaint myself with who's who. If you can, I highly recommend you read (or reread) the 2 other books I'm the series before reading this one.

Loveing the trip down memory lane!!!

Such a sweet amazing story, and a little trip dow memory lane is a plus. I love getting reacquainted with old characters, and seeing how things have changed and grow makes me so happy! Now I can't wait for the next two benefit books, sents they are also supposed to be about the children of previous book couples whom I adored so much!!!

it needs 2 b a little bit longer. it was interesting that even though she tried 2 do the rt thing when she left it didn't feel rt 2 either of them. some people r meant to b 2gether whether they r far apart or close. but it's always going 2 b a struggle 2 find differences from certain times in each of their lives.

4/5*

This was a really sweet novella and I'm so happy we got to see Colt's happy ending. While this wasn't my favourite Lori Foster series, I did love that we got to see Colt all grown up after the previous two books had him as a teenager. It's a simple and cute storyline that ends with the happy ending we all wanted for him. Give it a read if you enjoyed the first two books in the series!

Great read

Short , sassy and sexy story that is a nice wrap up for the Guthrie Brothers series. I would recommend with a caution that it's not much of a story without the background of the prior two books.

Delightful to return to the Guthrie family and see Colt as an adult. This is a sweet one as he reconnects with Charish when she moves home. Readers will appreciate how Foster moves these two through modern life choices and into taking risks to rekindle their love.

COLT is the third in Lori Foster’s Guthrie Brothers series, and is Colt Guthrie’s second-chance story when his high school sweetheart Charish moves back to Clearbook. I enjoyed seeing the two of them reconnect and move past their past hurt, and also enjoyed the warm friendships that surround them.
