G. S. Jennsen is a speculative and science fiction author, as well as a futurist, geek, gamer, programmer and editor. She has become an internationally bestselling author since her first novel, Starshine, was published in March 2014. She has chosen to continue writing under an independent publishing model to ensure the integrity of her series and her ability to execute on the vision she’s had for it since its genesis.

While she has been a lawyer, a software engineer and an editor, she’s found the life of a full-time author preferable by several orders of magnitude.

When she isn’t writing, she’s gaming or working out or getting lost in the mountains that loom large outside the windows in her home. Or she’s dealing with a flooded basement, or standing in a line at Walmart reading the tabloid headlines and wondering who all of those people are. Or sitting on her back porch with a glass of wine, looking up at the stars, trying to figure out what could be up there.

For established readers of the worlds of Caleb, Alex,Nikki etc.etc., this was a treat and an interesting glimpse of the early Asterion beginnings. For someone picking up the Starshine saga for the first time, it is a light but representative taste of what lies in store for you. I seriously urge the latter readers to start at the beginning of these books (see the author’s website) as it it is an intricate journey that continually builds from within.

Mrs. Nicolette Hinotori represented the companies on Asterion Prime that brought life to SAIs or Sentient Artificial Intelligences, and the government just passed even more severe restrictions on their use. While at the same time, the scientists and those that knew SAIs understood why they wanted the ability to move around and experience things the way humans do. Loshi, her genius brother, the founder of Fusion Logistics, has beat the government to the punch, so to speak. When she entered his lab, she is introduced to a woman whose function at the company was a data analyst. Nicolette thought it was his new girlfriend, but she found out that the woman was actually a remote operated by an SAI. Then she found out that there were other ways SAIs could become mobile, permanently.

This short story set 700,000 years ago, or in 700,000 years, will lead to another story. That story is Exin Ex Machina. This story tells of living tissue merging with Sentient Artificial Intelligence, becoming a new bio-synthetic race, and the struggles they faced to do so. The world-building lent to some visuals popping into my head, and the character interaction is believable.

Do you like science fiction? Action & Adventure? Cyberpunk? Then you might like this short story, which is a prequel to Exin Ex Machina. I give this short story five stars out of five stars.

Wonderful fantasy listening 🎶😢

Another will written fantasy Sci-Fi adventure thriller short story by G. S. Jennsen. The revolution continues as the main character keeps doing everything she can too achieve freedom. I highly recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of fantasy novels. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa as I do because of eye damage and issues from shingles. 🏡🔰👒⏰ 2022

Not for me

The read did not have a good flow started in the middle of shutdown without proper backstory or explanation just difficult to get through. Might get better if you continue to read on additional stories, but based on what I read so far, I have no interest in reading additional.

Great background

I really liked this short story that gave background in events in the beginning. It you read this review and haven't read any of the books in this saga, then I recommend gay you start at the beginning and be prepared for a trip into an incredible universe.

Em um momento em que se discute o uso, ou o mau uso, da inteligência artificial, este pequeno livro leva tal discussão a um outro patamar. Se você gosta de Battlestar Galactica, esta é uma boa leitura.

I love this short story, a real taste of the great story lines, drama and a real insight into how humanity might face Sentient Artificial Intelligence. A great taster for the novels, all of which I highly recommend!

This story is a real teaser. It tells the beginning of the Anadem and Asterion split. It makes me want to read about the split until the Asterions leave and form their own society.

I'm currently reading Asterion Noir #3, The Stars Like Gods, and this is the perfect time to read Chrysalis, as this gives us backstory about Nika and Dashiel. A perfect short read. Don't miss it!

Kobo blurb: In the cutting-edge laboratories of Asterion Prime, a new manner of life emerges: sentient artificial intelligence. But when the government responds by trying to shut down the AIs before they have a chance to flourish, one woman realizes she must do whatever it takes to protect this still fragile new life, no matter the consequences.

Review: Robots are starting to show sentience. Naturally there are those who feel threatened and want to destroy the robots... BUT some people want to protect the robots as a new species. They are willing to go to extremes to protect the new minds.
