Avarice Online starts out with a player moving into a previously unknown section of the game known as Avarice Online. His friends can't access the place he finds, and soon after he disappears from the game completely.
Minutes later, he is reborn as an orc warrior who learns how to work within orc society. Pretty decent premise I'd say.
The good: action. There is a ton of it, and it gets better the further along in the book you go. Kel'van leads a group on patrol and they are told to not let an enemy get back to their people. They chase that person down, killing her, but get lost in the under caverns along the way. I enjoyed that portion of the book the most.
The boss fights are good, but I found the regular action to be best.
The not quite so good: editing, editing, editing. I can see this being a problem for a number of readers. If you're willing to look past it, you'll find a book worth reading. If you can't, then you can't.
The last battle seemed tacked on at the end, but that's fine. It sets up the next book in the series fairly well.
I do need to mention the notifications, as they are really hard to read. The green background doesn't help, and the font is small and doesn't contrast enough against the green.
Overall I enjoyed this. I think it runs a bit long for the story it has to tell, and boss fights do get repetitive. Kel'van is a strong leader, and it shows throughout the story. I do think that the description isn't quite accurate, as I thought the game would play into a global apocalypse. That's true, but not in the way I imagined it.
