Marriage Can Be Mischief

Rate this book
Millie Fisher may be widowed, but she leads a full life in her Amish hometown of Harvest, Ohio. There’s her quilting circle, her Boer goats, her gift for matchmaking—and the occasional murder . . .

Millie is happy that her childhood friend, Uriah Schrock, has returned to Harvest after decades away. He was sweet on Millie in their school days, but she only had eyes for her future husband. Now, there’s a new spark between them, so Millie is concerned when Uriah doesn’t show up at the Harvest concert series—or for his job as the Village square’s groundskeeper. Perhaps Millie has been involved in too many murder investigations, but she has a sinking feeling. And when she and her best friend, Lois, find Uriah with the police, it seems she’s right . . .

A film crew is in Harvest to make a movie about a forty-year-old unsolved murder. A skeleton has been found at the bottom of a ravine—and Uriah is certain it’s his sister, Galilee. Right before Uriah left Ohio, she disappeared, and her harsh husband, Samuel, was found fatally stabbed with a knitting needle. The sheriff declared that Galilee killed him and ran away. Uriah never believed the theory, and he’s come back to Harvest hoping, Gott willing, Millie will help him stitch together the truth . . .

This is an Amish Cozy Mystery, and this is the third book in An Amish Matchmaker Mystery series. I found the main character in this book to be so much fun to follow. I love an Older Amish woman that is nosey, and she is trying to figure out what is going on. I also love the goats in this book. I have not read the other books in this series, but I will have to go back to read them. This is a fun book with great characters. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

Marriage Can Be Mischief by Amanda Flower is the third book in the cozy An Amish Matchmaker Mystery series. This series is a spin off of Amanda Flower’s cozy Amish Candy Shop Mystery series with it being set in the same Amish town but with a new lead character. Readers do not need to have read the Amish Candy Shop Mystery series to enjoy this one, although I will say it’s a fun one that I have enjoyed. As with most cozy series too each book of this series will have it’s own mystery that will be fully solved within the book so they can be read as a standalone or in any order if choosing to do so although there is character development carrying over from book to book for those who follow from the beginning.

Millie Fisher has just moved back to her Amish community in Harvest, Ohio after being gone for several years taking care of family in other Amish communities. Millie is now a widow and is a quiltmaker, that is how she makes money to pay her bills, but Millie has always considered herself to be a matchmaker. Millie doesn’t think it would be fair though to use her gift of knowing what couples will be a good match to make money and does this out of the kindness of her heart. Unfortunately for Millie she has also picked up another side hobby that is keeping her busy and that is hunting for murderers in her Amish community with her best friend, Lois, who is actually an Englischer. This time around Millie’s childhood friend, Uriah Schrock, had returned to Harvest after being gone for decades after the disappearance of his sister, Galilee. It doesn’t seem a coincidence to Millie when bones are found by a film crew working in Harvest that belong to Uriah’s sister. Galilee’s husband had been abusive and was found murdered all those years ago and it was always thought that Galilee may have killed her husband and fled but now Millie is determined to get to the truth of it all.

The An Amish Matchmaker Mystery series is actually the third by Amanda Flower that I have followed completely from the beginning and have enjoyed every minute. These are all just the right combination of quirkiness and humour that I enjoy the most. The balance between the Amish lead and her best friend is something that keeps a smile on my face the entire time I read. When finished with this third book of the series I would rate it at four and a half stars with only just one moment I found a bit too predictable to bump it to five but otherwise a lovely addition to the series!

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

I always enjoy Amanda Flower's Cozy Mysteries. I have read several of them. The characters in this mystery series are a mixture of Amish and English. I love that most of the characters are a part of every book in the Amish Matchmaker Mystery series. These same characters are also in the Authors Amish Candy Shop Mysteries.
I found this book to be humorous, edge of seat reading a time or two, unpredictable, an easy to read page turner and definitely entertaining. This Cozy Mystery was different from the usual mysteries because it is about a cold case murder. I enjoyed the flow of the story and the end left me feeling satisfied with my reading experience.
Millie Fisher and Lois Henry are best friends and extreme opposites. Millie is an Amish senior citizen and Lois is an Englisher with purple/ black spiked hair. The two grew up together and now in their retirement years they have reunited and do just about everything together except church. Millie and Lois are sleuths and love to help the Deputy Sheriffs solve murder cases.
When a skeleton is found in a ravine off a country road DNA testing reveals that it is Gali Zook who is believed to have killed her husband Samuel forty years ago. It has been speculated that she ran away and became an Engisher. Because there wasn't real evidence that Gali killed her husband it went unsolved all these years. Now that it had been proved that the skeleton was indeed Gali Zook her brother Uriah Schrock has asked Millie and Lois to investigate and solve this murder. Sheriff Marshall has closed the case claiming Gali killed her husband during an argument and then ran off falling in the ravine. But Uriah feels since her skeleton was buried that she could not have buried herself. So who was there at the scene of Samuels murder to bury Gali? Find that person and a forty year murder cold case is solved. Lois and Millie are planning to do just that!
I recommend this book to readers of Cozy Mystery, Amish Fiction and fans of the Author. This book is scheduled to be released on November 30th 2021

I always enjoy Amanda Flower's cozy mysteries. An Amish Matchmaker Mystery series is one of two series set in Harvest, Ohio. Millie Fisher is an older woman who is able to see if a couple is going to make it together but she also loves to solve mysteries. She and her best friend since five years, Lois Henry, can get into some precarious situations. When a skeleton is found in a ravine near where an unsolved murder was committed forty years ago, her old flame and friend, Uriah Schrock is sure that it is his missing sister's bones. Her abusive husband is the person murdered on the spot forty years ago and she disappeared. She and Lois set out to find answers and their queries not only made some folks angry but put themselves in danger or at least put Millie in danger. This is a nice addition to the series and a good mystery to unravel. I enjoy the characters, the setting, and have come to expect an interesting murder mystery. Millie is a widow and lives alone on her farm with her two trouble making goats, a cat, and her horse. Her friend Lois is an Englisher and Millie's opposite but theirs is a fun friendship to read about. This is another winner by Amanda Flower.
I received a complimentary ARC from Kensington Books and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine only.

This is the third book in the Amish Matchmaker series (there is also a companion series in the same small town) and I think with every book I love this place more. I especially love the way the Amish and English co-exist and at times share and learn together in this story. I also love this protagonist! It is rare you see an older amateur sleuth but the fact that this one is a quilting matchmaker crime solver is even better. I liked the mystery and while I did get to who the killer was the story was engaging and fun to read. I love the goats and how loving but mischievous they are. Millie isn’t able to stay away when rumor is human remains have been found. Everyone is sure they belong to a woman who went missing 40 years before Gali. Gali’s brother Uriah asks Millie to do some digging as he has very little faith in the English sheriff. I think my very favorite part of this series is the friendship between Lois and Millie. They could honestly be doing anything not just solving crime and it would be fun to read.

Marriage Can Be Mischief by Amanda Flower is an entertaining cozy mystery. While it is the third book in An Amish Matchmaker Mysteries, it can be read as a standalone. You will be missing out two amusing stories though. I love that we get an older protagonist in this series along with her over-the-top sidekick. Millie Fisher is a delight and so is her best friend, Lois. These two are complete opposites in appearance. Millie and Lois are a hoot. That Lois is something else. I love that Lois calls Millie “Amish Marple.” Millie’s goats are amusing. I love that Millie takes Peter and Phillip for walks. I can just see Millie on her red bike with her two mischievous goats following along. Those two rotten darlings are Millie’s furbabies. It is always a pleasure to visit Harvest, Ohio. It is a charming town with a mix of Amish and Englisch. I like that the characters from An Amish Candy Shop Mysteries make an appearance like Margot and Deputy Little. I keep hoping the sheriff of their town will get ousted. I wish Aidan had run against him in the last election. The mystery has a documentary crew finding a skull in a ravine. It relates to a cold case that is forty years old. Millie’s friend, Uriah Schrock has been searching for his sister, Galilee Zook for forty years. She disappeared the same night her husband, Samuel Zook was found dead. Uriah never believed the rumor that Galilee killed her husband or that she went Englisch. Millie and Lois begin asking questions in the hopes of discovering what happened to Uriah’s sister. Someone is not happy with Millie’s meddling and decides to stop her. I had a good time following along on Millie and Lois’ investigation. You never know what Lois is going to do or say next. While I had no problem identifying the guilty party, it did not diminish my reading pleasure. I like how the case wrapped up. I appreciated the epilogue at the end of the book. I hope we get many more An Amish Matchmaker Mysteries. Marriage Can Be Mischief is an amusing whodunit with gamboling goats, a troubled brother, a broken buggy, a missing sister, a friendly filmmaker, an unsupportive sheriff, a colorful coiffure, and an Amish sleuth.

Lots of laughs, a solid mystery and the crazy antics of an older Amish/Englischer sleuthing duo makes for a riveting read. And there's pet goats -- Peter and Phillip -- who make things all the more interesting. Love this community and all the secondary characters, some who spill over from another of the author's series. This is the third Amish Matchmaker Mystery and I think it would be best read in order so you can get the most out of the relationships and the town dynamics.

Amanda Flower does not disappoint. She consistently delivers books with likable characters, charming settings, and engaging mysteries to her readers. Marriage Can Be Mischief, the third book in the Amish Matchmaker Mystery series continues this streak. This is a fun series. I enjoy that the protagonist/amateur sleuths in this series are mature, active women who still have a lot to offer. For me, one of the areas of this series that I particularly enjoy is the lifelong friendship between Millie and Lois. While a lifelong friendship itself is not unique, many of us have them in our own lives, the thing that is unique about their friendship is that one is Amish and the other English. They are as different as two women can be in terms of the life they have led, it is their commonalities that make their friendship work. They are both warm, big-hearted, with family at the heart of what is important to each of them. They just complement each other in an unexpected way. And who can resist the antics of Phillip and Peter, Millie's pet goats? They always provide readers with a chuckle.

This time around the mystery involves a cold case, which resurfaces when a skeleton is discovered by an indie filmmaker shooting aerial scenes over a ravine. When the bones are determined to be that of an Amish woman who disappeared years ago after the murder of her husband, Millie and Lois become embroiled in the case. Once again, Ms. Flower crafts a mystery that slowly unravels throughout the course of the book, giving her readers a few plausible suspects but making them really work to see how the clues all fit together. When Millie gets too close someone wants her to stop asking questions which almosts costs the "Amish Marple" her life. Lucky for the reader, Millie has a strong desire to see the real killer caught and is able to put the clues together to lead her to the killer. I have to say, the killer's identity did surprise me in this book. It was a good surprise and frankly, I enjoy it when I have to work to solve the mystery even when I'm wrong - which is most of the time.

This is a terrific series and I look forward to seeing what adventure Ms. Flower has in store for Lois and Millie in the next book.

I voluntarily read a digital advanced reader copy provided to me by the publisher, Kensington Books, through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own and are not influenced by the manner in which I received this book.

Widowed Amish matchmaker Millie Fisher (AKA Amish Marple) has moved back to her home county in Ohio after caring for her sister in Michigan. Now that they are 67, Millie and her non-Amish friend from childhood, Lois, are still great friends despite their differing lifestyles and are kind of like Holmes and Watson. This is the third time they are involved in ferreting out the truth of murder, but this time is more difficult: A. because the case is 40 years old, and B. because the sheriff wants nothing to do with the Amish in his county and ignores logic because of it. Add in a difficult clergy wife, a young couple with a misunderstanding, and *the goats*. Mostly it's a good mystery, but the hilarious incidents creep up now and again to make you laugh your sox off. Loved it and it really can stand alone.
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Kensington Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
There have been references to the Amish in Ohio, Michigan, now Indiana. Can't wait for our folks in Wisconsin!

I really enjoy reading these books and getting a glimpse of Amish life. That Millie has such a great "English" friend is awesome, and it is funny when Millie is so stymied by some of the comments that Lois makes. I have also read Flower's Amish Candy Shop series so it is great to see the way that she brings in characters from the other series and really makes it seem like Harvest, Ohio is a town full of fun people and events. I think that I would like to visit there some day.

This series is a must for those who enjoy the author’s unique combination of humor, cozy mysteries, pets, and people of the Amish faith. This delightful series includes characters who are both Amish and English. It compliments and shares some of the same characters from the author’s ongoing Amish Candy Shop Mystery series. I really enjoy the eclectic mix of people we meet. The setting in Harvest, Ohio, sounds like a charming and historic village. I especially enjoy the pets in the novel; Peter and Phillip are very personable!

Millie is retired except for making quilts on commission and helping at her niece Edith’s greenhouse. She also has the gift of being a matchmaker, helping find the best mate for folks of any age. Millie has had several successful matches since returning to Harvest and enjoys it. She is also not afraid to advise when a match between two people wouldn’t be beneficial. A widow for many years, Millie and her husband were never blessed with children of their own, but she delights in her friends and their children.

Millie and Lois have been best friends most of their 60+ years. Lois is English, with short, spiked, purple hair and vibrantly colored clothing. She has nicknamed Millie “Amish Marple” as the two of them have helped the sheriff’s department solve several mysteries. They never plan to do so; for them it just happens when they least expect it.

The sheriff doesn’t care much for Amish people and will not go out of his way to help them. Since Aiden, a former deputy, left to work for a state law enforcement group, Deputy Luke Little has been handling the few cases that involve the Amish.

It stuns Lois and Millie one evening to see a long line of traffic near a ravine where an unsolved murder occurred about forty years ago when Millie was a young bride. One night during a terrible snowstorm, Samuel made the rare buggy trip to bring his wife home from work; it would have been impossible for her to ride her bicycle in it. He was found the next morning with a knitting needle in his neck. His wife Galilee, Gali for short, was never found. The sheriff at the time felt she killed her husband, who had been very abusive, and ran off to become English.

The next morning, Millie was out early, walking her goats, and ran into Deputy Little and a young man with a van. Last night Tyler and Xander, young filmmakers who are making a drama about the cold case, were taking footage with a drone. A small incident with it sent them into the ravine to pick it up. They saw a partially buried human skull. It is determined that the skull and recovered skeleton was that of Gali. Her brother Uriah sought Millie’s help to find out what really happened that night. He and Millie both know Gali could not have killed her husband despite his long-term abuse, so a third person had to have been there that night.

The people of Harvest come to life through the capable hand of the author. I can picture best friends Millie and Lois, and even Ruth, the Bishop’s wife. They represent a population of people who have stayed in or returned to Harvest and have been lifelong friends and acquaintances. It is wonderful to see how most people in the community work together for the same goals, and I loved watching Millie’s goats – especially after the church service!

I absolutely enjoyed being part of Amish life through the pages of this cozy mystery. I appreciated the quilting circle and how they work together to help each member complete commissioned quilts. Millie frequently shares Amish proverbs, especially with Lois. Plot twists and turns added and removed suspects as new clues are uncovered. When the attempts on Millie’s life begin, she knows they are onto someone – but who? And what was the motive? The reveal of the bad guy was a definite surprise, as well as learning the person’s background. The conclusion was satisfactory, and all loose ends were tied up. I highly recommend this cozy mystery and series!

I adored this latest installment in Amanda Flower's Amish Matchmaking series! I love that Millie Fisher is an older protagonist, and I love her over the top best friend, Lois. Harvest, Ohio is a charming setting and providing a great backdrop for this murder mystery. The pacing was fantastic, and I had a fantastic time solving the mystery with Millie and Lois. I cannot wait for the next book!

4.5 stars: Marriage Can Be Mischief is the third book in the Amish Matchmaker series and is also a spinoff from the Amish Candy Shop series. The story is set in the small town of Harvest, Ohio, with Millie Fischer an older Amish Widow being the main characters with her childhood friend and Englischer Lois as her sidekick. Uriah Schrock, another childhood friend has also returned to Harvest, and seems to be sweet on Millie. In this book we find out that he returned to get closure. Forty years earlier his sister, Galilee, disappeared and her husband was killed. Everyone though she killed her abusive husband and fled, changing her name and leaving the faith, Uriah ever believed it. When a skeleton is found buried on the side of a cliff, Uriah wants answers. Enter Millie and Lois. This duo of super sleuths start asking questions and putting two and two together to help figure out what really happened to Galilee.

I really like the character of Millie Fischer. She returned to Harvest after her husband died and her sister needed help. Her sister is now gone, but Millie stayed and is making a name for herself as a matchmaker, quiltmaker and sleuth. She is great at reasoning and deduction, which allows her to take information, rearrange it and figure out what happened. Being an older woman, people also seem to open up to her as well. Paired with Lois, who is hilarious, they are the dynamic duo. They can do things other Amish can't because Lois is Englisch, such as use a car to travel out of the community. Being about a cold case makes this one a bit different. I enjoy the various characters we meet in this book, especially Millie's two playful and troublesome goats, who add a bit of humor. This was an entertaining cozy mystery, with a few tense moments, some fun, and an interesting mystery and investigation. You don't have to read the first two books in this series to enjoy this one, but it is a great series and I do recommend you read them all because of that. Another great cozy mystery by one of my favourite cozy mystery authors. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book upon request. The rating, ideas and opinions shared are my own.

Millie is truly excited when a friend that she grew up with returns to Harvest. Uriah stayed away for decades and she didn't think she would ever see him again. Now after spending a little time with him she feels like there might be something between them. She begins to worry when he doesn't show up for an event they were going to or even his job. Millie soon learns she has reason to worry because he's at the police station. She learns that while filming a crew discovered a skeleton and that Uriah thinks said skeleton is his sister. You see his sister disappeared right before he left town and the police thought she ran because she killed her husband. Uriah wants to learn the truth and Millie is happy to do what she can to help him find answers. Will the two find the answers they seek or will it all remain a mystery?

Millie Fisher and Lois Henry are an unlikely dual. They have much in common that they care deeply for each other. They are best friends. They are unmarried having been married. However, one is English and the other is Amish. Lois has all the English slang that Millie has no ideal what she is talking about. They love to solve mysteries and they love to match make the people in their community.

A new cold case has arrived when bones are discovered in a ravine. Millie & Lois happen to be by the ravine when the bones are discovered and see a familiar face that they had not seen for 40 years. Uriah Schrock is at the ravine. He approaches Lois and tells her his fears about his missing sister. He has asked her to check around the community since they have not seen him for so long. He hopes that she will find out something that the authorities missed. Uriah and Lois do have a history and that plays into the plot. It was assumed that Uriah's sister killed her husband and left the Amish. She was mistreated unkindly by her husband but was that the truth or something more sinister. Somebody knows something. Lois and Millie ask questions, find out more details and come face to face with the killer.

I enjoyed a different take on the Amish lifestyle with Millie and the friendship she had with Lois. It actually was a very well done "who done it". It had intrigue and humor and a little Amish wisdom.

A special thank you to Kensington Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Review:

The characters are well rounded and well developed. Millie and Lois find themselves having to solve another murder mystery. But this murder happened over forty years ago. That does not keep Millie and Lois from wanting to solve it. All the usual people make appearances in the book, and it was good to see all of them. Millie and Lois are great together and they bring lots of laughs. And Millie’s goats are adorable and get into all kinds of mischief.

The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions pulled me into the story from the very beginning and took me on a fantastic ride. The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The murder was well plotted and there were a few suspects to consider and clues to sift through. I had an idea who the murder was but I was not completely sure.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. If you are looking for a book to read that is humorous and intriguing, get a copy of this book and enjoy.

Marriage Can Be Mischief is the third book in the An Amish Matchmaker Mystery series by Amanda Flower.

Some forty years ago, Sam Zook’s dead body was found in his buggy; his wife Galilee(Gali) had disappeared. It was known in the community that they had a far from a good marriage. Police ruled that Gali had killed her husband and ran away, never to be seen or heard from again.

Back to the present day, Uriah Schrock, who moved to Indiana after his sister Gali disappeared, has returned to, hopefully, learn what had happened to his sister and asks Millie if she would help him. Lois is taking Millie home after attending a concert at the town square. They come upon police cars gathered where Zook had been killed. Lois and Millie stopped to see what had happened. They learn that a film crew was filming a documentary about Zook’s death, and they found a human skull and bones. The bones turn out to be those of Gali. Millie and Lois set out to determine that fatal night. Before they can get much information from the police, the sheriff orders the case closed. But it’s not closed for Millie and Lois, and they will find that there are several suspects to question. When Millie buggy’s axle breaks, causing her to lose control and crashes. When the police determine that someone maliciously had cut into the axle, they reopen the investigation.

It’s always enjoyable to visit the community of Harvest, be it this series or The Amish Candy shop. The book is well-written and plotted. The characters are interesting, believable, and well developed. Once again, Phillip and Peter, Millie’s pet goats, are around and as ornery as ever. I just love these goats. There were enough twists and turns. I was kept guessing until the end of the as to who the killer was.

I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series.

This is such a fun series with wonderful characters. I love Millie and Lois as well as Millie's mischievous goats. The setting is idyllic and so well described that you want to plan a visit just to spend time with these characters. I learn a little more about the Amish and their communities every time I read one of her mysteries in this area. The writing flowed well and the murder, a cold case, was well laid out. There were just enough clues to keep you guessing but not giving the murderer away until the very end. I always look forward to Amanda Flower's books and this one definitely did not disappoint.

Amanda Flower's Amish Matchmaker Mystery Series focuses on seventy-odd-year-old widow Millie Fisher. The mystery in Marriage Can Be Mischief is a cold case; a skull is found at the bottom of a ravine.

Set in Harvest, Ohio, Millie leads an active life; she has her long-time best friend, Englisher Lois. As reserved as Millie is, Lois is her flamboyant opposite. It is such a fun friendship and I enjoyed reading about the two of them. She also has her quilting circle to keep her occupied. This series is an extension of the author's Amish Candy Shop tales and some of the characters from those mysteries are in this series. Add in mischievous goats and a cat to the mix along with some hilarious moments and the cozy mystery reader has a perfect cozy reading escape.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Kensington Books via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

Millie Fisher may be widowed, but she leads a full life in her Amish hometown of Harvest, Ohio. There’s her quilting circle, her Boer goats, her gift for matchmaking—and the occasional murder…

Having read several Amanda Flower books, I know that I’m going on a trip ~ usually to Amish country, and there will be unique and interesting characters. Not meaning to diminish the books value, I often read them as pallet cleansers, when I have read some heavy books, and gone too far down the proverbial rabbit hole. I enjoy that these books don’t dive too deep, have plenty of levity, a little love story (not too much) and an interesting mystery. Has just enough angst to keep my attention, but taking place among the Amish, so there’s that community that is much different than how we live. I just know that I can pick up any of these books, especially good to read during hard times, and it will be interesting, without the doom and gloom of some mystery thrillers, a genre I’m drawn to, but on occasion, need a break.

This book does not disappoint. It is the third in the series, though you do not have to read them in order. You will gain more insight, if you do. Each book stands alone and has its own murder mystery.

3.5 to a 4

I am really loving this series! The murder mystery had several good suspects. I honestly did not have it figured out until the end of the book! I am enjoying the character development of both Millie Fisher and Lois Henry. They are very different women, yet they have been best friends forever. One is Amish, and the other is not. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

I love books that the second you open them and start them, it is like visiting with old friends that you haven't seen in awhile and you can just settle in and enjoy your read. That is how this author's book are for me - I feel like I am settling in with friends for a nice comfortable chat that MAY or MAY NOT include solving murder cases [in this case it IS murder, but it is a cold case and no one finds a dead body in this one] and I love that. Millie is the most unusual Amish woman, in both how she sees the world and how she deals with people [and her adorable goats. Gosh I love those silly goats], but she does not sway from her faith and what she inherently believes in and is not afraid to give credit to her Gott when she feels He has helped her. I love how she is able to stay true to her faith and way of life and still be best friends with Lois. It shows that true friendship can break ANY barriers and that religion does not have to be a breaking point of why people cannot be friends. I wish MORE people would get that [but I digress].

As I said, this story centers around a cold case involving an Amish couple and all the icky things that happen leading up to the murders. It IS distressing at times. As someone who grew up in a church system that ignored abuse over and over, the reminder that "pastors" and "elders" held so much power over families, even within the Amish community, was very distressing to remember, and like real life, this story doesn't really have a happy ending. Yes, the culprit is caught [after much searching and quite a bit of danger] but there were still two people who died - yes, someone did the deed, but the elders that ignored the situation and chose to close their eyes and hearts to a desperate woman are just as culpable as the killer.

Other than the fact that there was A LOT of repetition in this [A LOT. Every couple of pages, something that had just happened was talked about again. Maybe by a different person, but it is the same information. I mean, how many times do we need to be reminded that Millie L O V E S blueberry anything? Because it is said in quite a few chapter and this kind of repetition started to both detract from the story and from the seriousness of the subject matter. I hope that this is not a new trend], and the often distressing subject matter [thankfully, the antics of the goats AND Lois breaks some of this up] this was a very good read [it was good to see some of the resolutions at the end. One can only pray that that kind of change will happen in more churches] and I was sorry to see it end; Millie and Lois are fun to hang out with and I enjoy how they do things in their snooping and their friendship and respect for each other is so refreshing and gives hope in a time when there is just so much strife. May we all strive to have friendships like they have in each other.

Really looking forward to the next one.

A cold case has Millie and Lois back on the hunt for a killer once again! Only this time, it seems that Millie may be the target that the killer is determined to take out! I love these characters as it is so much fun to have a couple of mismatched elderly ladies being the sleuths rather than some young person stumbling about. I only hope that I have the determination to live life to the fullest that both ladies exhibit and maybe a bit of Lois' outlandishness when I age to their levels. You'll love the characters in the book, including the two ornery goats that Millie keeps as pets. The plot is excellent and this one is the best yet as you were led to uncover the guilty party, but not too quickly and the reveal was perfect. I can't wait to see what Millie and Lois get into next!

When one of Millie's childhood friends returns to town seeking answers to his sister's disappearance from decades ago when a skeleton is discovered in the same area as her last known location, he is sure he has found his answers. When the police want to close this out as an accident, Millie believes her friend deserves more answers and starts her own investigation.

This is a fun cozy mystery. The main character, Millie, is an older Amish widower. She is intelligent and observant. The story is well-crafted and full of red herrings. I was surprised by the ending.

All thoughts and opinions are my own; no way has anyone influenced my opinion.

Quaint, fun-loving, cozy mystery. As a huge fab of the cozy mystery genre I’m always looking for another series to add to my list. Amanda Flower knocked it out of the park again.

Set in the Amish Village of Harvest Ohio, Marriage Can Be Mischief is one of my favorite new books by Amanda Flower. Very well-crafted characters and a fun storyline make this a great cozy mystery.

Is there any way for readers not to like Millie? I doubt it, and the newest addition to the “An Amish Matchmaker Mystery” series, Marriage Can Be Mischief won’t change that either. Millie and Lois are at it again. They are tracking down a killer and getting into trouble. Matchmaking, quilt making, and goat herding just don’t keep Millie busy enough. She always has to jump in when a friend needs help, which sometimes leads her down the path of danger.

When Millie’s old friend Uriah comes back to town, she tries to avoid him at first. Uriah was the next thing she had to a boyfriend when she was young, but her late husband stole her heart, and she never looked back. With Uriah in town and his sister, Galilee, still missing after 40-years and still accused of murdering her husband, it doesn’t take long for matchmaking and quilting to take a back seat to everything else. Especially when bones are found in a ravine that everyone is sure belongs to Uriah’s sister.

It is soon discovered that Galilee died the same night her husband was murdered. The question is, did Galilee kill him and fall into the ravine where she died, or did someone kill her and bury her in that ravine? Millie risks everything to help her friend discover the truth. Lois jumps in to help, and between the old matchmaker and her friend, they track down suspects, find evidence and stitch together an ending most readers won’t see coming.

Marriage Can Be Mischief, like all the books in this series, is a heartwarming story of friendship, love, and goat chaos. Millie, the matchmaker, is lovable beyond belief. Lois is everything you would want in a friend that is nothing like you. The mystery is always intriguing, believable, and fun to solve, and the goats are always causing issues and enjoying every minute of the mess. Motives, clues, and even a few red herrings are threaded into this story as easily as they are in the quilts Millie creates. Readers will thrill at Millie and Lois’ newest investigation and will turn the last page with a sparkle in their eyes and a smile on their faces.

An Amish Matchmaker Mystery #3. There are so many things I enjoy about this series. For one, it’s a crossover with The Amish Candy Shop Mystery with both taking place in Harvest, OH. I love seeing the familiar characters .. and Jethro the celebrity pig around this quaint town that’s made up of both Amish and Englisch residents.

The stars in this series are Millie and Lois. Both are just shy of seventy and share an unique friendship. Millie being an Amish widow and avid quilter. Lois being Englisch and running a local cafe that apparently serves wonderful blueberry treats. Together they are hoot and quite the mature sleuth duo. I love that Lois nicknamed Millie the Amish Marple!

The mystery was captivating and centers around a cold case involving Uriah’s missing sister. With plenty of suspicious suspects, I successfully pegged the correct culprit early on. I just couldn’t determine the reasoning until the reveal. There were a few plausible red herrings and a bit of unexpected action involving tampering with a buggy.

There was an underlining theme of learning to move on after grief. Uriah and Millie finally confront their feelings for one another. Plus there are plenty of humorous moments involving Peter and Philip, two mischievous goats that easily steal the spotlight during their scenes. I look forward to continuing this series and seeing which case Millie and Lois take on next.

I received and ARC from @netgalley and @kensingtonbooks - all opinions are my own.
