Emma
A sliver of light in the back of my mind. A hint of day, of warmth, of something familiar. A king with a bright crown of pure sunlight. But these are all just dreams, ones that needlessly haunt me. I know they are lies.
Eraldon is my true king.
He is my life, my dark heart. My wings and my fangs—they are his. Whatever memories I have of light, those are falsehoods, ones forced on me by my enemy. By my greatest hate—King Solano. A monster wrapped in sunshine, a liar who killed my friends and my mother. Together, Eraldon and I will end his evil and take his realm.

Solano
A soft touch of a warm hand. A hint of laughter, of wit, of a clever tongue. A changeling who was made for me. Who is my mate. But I didn’t protect her.
She is gone, stolen by the wretch who seeks to take all of Arin, to rule over it and turn it into a wasteland of bloodthirsty seekers. Eraldon took my mate and poisoned her. He will pay with his cursed life.
I will not allow Emma to suffer at his hands. I will return to the night realm and once again claim my changeling.
But this time, not as a consort. This time, as the rightful queen of day.

This book was just…. I’ll try to list the things I didn’t like, maybe this could be a TW// for those who would read it.

- I have no problems with the kidnapping trope, but I had with this one. She’s turned into a sexual slave, completely brainwashed to “love” the evil vampire-seeker, and lose all reasons. MORE THAN 50% of this book SHES in this trance of ridiculously brainwashing brain, thank god she refused to have sex but what in the real world was this?

- the scene where the seeker king almost raped her in front of everyone and then her mate is like: I love you remember me, and then she’s like “omg I remember” and stabs the king but ofc she just basically almost Kill herself. I wish I had words.

- everybody almost dies or dies and comes backs and then dies, I got lost.

- Solano is a simp, but a brainless one. There’s a rebellion growing because the lesser fae wants to be treated justly, his farm people are DYING, his brother is plotting again him, his betrothed is an insane woman, the kingdom is CHAOTIC, but he could not give a damn, he just wants to be with his consort. Like?????? What a terrible king, and completely undeveloped character. I’m sorry.

- Emma knows of the rebellion and says nothing and no one cares. So random.

- there were so many unnecessary plots and events that felt like a messy tangle of webs, which could have been completely cut from the book.

- the king just orders people around and they tell him his ideas are stupid but who cares, do as he says.

- Emma is supposed to be this strong heroine but got lost in… everything.

- this was so messy, so many rape attempts, there were so many random tries of jokes and banter with the king’s friends that were completely written at the wrong time. People were dying and they were like “bla bla bla c*nt.” Like? O M G there's a time and place and it was never it.

- I could write more but I’m numb at this point.

This is the second book in the Consort Duet and the first book in this series came out what feels like forever ago. I think I would have been more engaged and connected with this had the books come out closer together. O well.

Solano and Emma are fated mates and Emma has been taken by an enemy and changed. The book tells the story of how Solano gets her back and how they find their HEA.

Honestly, the story was very reminiscent of one of my favorite authors books so it didn't feel entirely unique to me. But overall, I'd give it a solid 3 stars.

3.75, its a combo of a solid 2 star for most of the book but the last 25% or so saved it from being dnf'ed, so 4 stars. I was not very happy with this book, the first one is snarky and fun with Emma and the Day King. But throw in some curses, an evil villain, some secrets and witches and bam- super convoluted and dark.

It starts right off the cliffy from the last book without any explanation (which I prefer). I had to wait a little while for this one due to wi-fi while traveling but at least I didn't have to wait 3 years for this sequel like some reviewers mentioned! At least LA finished it compared to an author I love that can't seem to finish her way out of a paper bag...

Selene, an Obsidian witch, was the best part at 20%, which says A LOT about the tone of this story.
"Disgusting.” Selene pokes Grimelda’s withered arm. “So dry. Not tasty.”
“I didn’t bring you here to eat her.”
-------
at 56%- there were not many occasions to highlight unfortunately:
“It’s the curse.” I finish my whiskey and pour another.
“What curse?”
“Selene’s. Her death curse still hangs over the realm.”
“She betrayed you.” He nods as if he knew all along, which I suppose he did.
“She betrayed us, then saved us, then perhaps betrayed us again. I can’t keep count.”
-------
And I really liked it when the banter returned between Sol and Emma:
“Selene told me your mother’s secret.”
“How to seduce a man with nothing more than needle and thread?”

There were a few sex scenes that felt thrown in, 1 in particular didn't seem appropriate? If that's the word, it was weird timing.

Emma is now a seeker, transformed by Eraldon but responsible for his death. I think it ended well:
"He shoves me away, and I stumble back. But I don’t give up. “Isn’t this what you wanted?”
I scream. With my last wisp of energy, I jump on him again, clawing his chest with my good arm as I tear out his throat."

I just want to point out she just ripped his throat out before this:
"For the first time since Eraldon took me, I can take a breath without fear. “I’m all yours.”
I kiss Solano hard, and he answers, his feral purring loud in his chest."
BLECH. But then blood and gore is overlooked for such overwhelming passion. lol.

I loved "the Book of G" and may try Lily's other books but I am reluctant to invest in yet another series that drags me along. I didn't even realize the first one was not stand alone! Sigh.

The book was all in all great, but the kidnapped hero/heroine trope doesn't do it for me.

This was a good ending to this duo. I wish I would have read the books together since I hate rereading books. I am interesting in seeing what more comes from this world! I love Lily Archer books and her creative outlook on Fae and scifi stories.

This book took FOREVER to get here, but it was so worth the wait. I loved both Emma and Solano in the first book - and I love them even more in this one. Their love only deepens in this book. Particularly because of what they went through to find their way back to each other. Solano’s unrelenting quest to find her is definitely the stuff fairytales are made of. Their banter is similar to the previous book, but Solano kicks up the tenderness factor by about a cajillion, when he sends love messages through their bond while he’s fighting to find her. Seriously, my heart almost couldn’t take it.

The characters were already well defined in the previous book, but they are sweetened with more in this book. I felt their emotions in my gut. World building seemed complete to me. Only I want more. I want to read about each of his warriors finding their mates; Brock, Charen, Everett, Tristano and Bladin. Loyal seems like a trite word to describe their feeling and behavior toward their friend and King.

I definitely recommend this book, as well as her Fae’s Captive series. Selene appears in some of those books, but I am fascinated with her obsession with Brock in this book. Hopefully, we’ll get to read about that in another book.

It just flatlined.

On a positive note, the author can definitely write steam and pull off a bit of funny banter here and there. 👏🏻 I was hoping this book will be better than the first, but it just got worse then it flatlined. There’s some good material and characters here to work with, but it was just so unimaginative. I skimmed through the pages because perhaps I’ll read something good? 😬 Didn’t happen. I really really really wished the author explored and developed Eraldon which in my opinion is the most interesting character in this duet. The rest.. flat.

Anyway, if you are into “sugary sweet that will make you sick” and just bordering corny, then this is for you. Simple well used plots still works, but it will need some magic! I tend to like grittier writing with morally gray well developed characters. So… it’s me not you.

This Duet really should have been one book if character development stopped at book#1. The first half of the book was good and I let a few annoying repetitiveness go, but after the rescue, things went south. The best thing about book#2 is the return of Selene. She's saucy and carefree because she isn't controlled by anyone and bound to her own fate. The romance between Solano and Emma fizzles out of interest due to repetitive cheesy meanderings of love and makes the king who was an alpha in the 1st book become a simp. He somehow forgets (not literally) he is a king and has no one else to use as a strong ally to fight night realm ? He wants to help from folks who made a pathetic attempt of an uprising. Just...no. Also, I was lost trying to still figure out Emma's state of being. She's a different person now with a whole new body and still mated to the King. That's some traumatic stuff to deal with and I want to know how she is dealing with it because I really care about her character. And Solano had no animosity at all? I had to skim to the end after like 60% of the way in. Like I said, 1st book was 5/5, second 3/5.

It was really good. I am very disappointed in having to wait 3 years to find out what happened. I've read SEVERAL of the authors other works and they were sooo sooooo good and each book came out within a month or so of each other.
Fae's Queen is really good, a whole lot of surprises come up. I did skip to the end to make sure I'd want to read it though. That just piqued my interest even more.

Solid sequel

I love Lily Archer’s books, she always delivers with fantasy and the fae. I’d read the first book when it came out a few years back so I found the “where were we” note at the beginning super helpful. As expected, tensions between the night and day courts come to a head, especially after the first books’ tragic ending. This book is emotional, gripping and everything I wanted in a sequel. Also, I love how Selene pops into everyone’s stories, she’s so entertaining and I’m hoping she will keep showing up so we can know more about her!

This sequel was so disappointing after the great first book. I wish there was more development of their relationship before the seemingly automatic love that just kicked it when the mating bond was realized. Emma’s spitfire personality that brought so much life to the first book got so muddy and lost, and not just because of her trauma. It felt like such a task to keep up with the plot. Lily Archer is a great archer, and I really enjoy her other books. This one just fell flat to me.

2.5 ⭐️

Noooo. I’m so bummed!! The first book was a 5 ⭐️ for me, but this one fell short. I found myself skimming pages to get to the good stuff because it seemed like so much of the same things were just dragging on, but then the important stuff was rushed! The characters didn’t feel as genuine or consistent and I can’t say I laughed one time which is a huge disappointment. I don’t know. The story just lost its spark! 😟

Awesome

I loved this book! I hate that Leander Gareth Beth and Taylor didn’t make an appearance but Selene did with her twisted ways. However what I didn’t like was Eraldon kissing on Emma all the time and grabbing her in places just for her mate.. the cheating factor bothered me but besides that it was good!! I couldn’t put either book down! Good job

Ummm...it's Ok

There were enough gaps in this book that after reading it that was what my mind could only focus on. The book also dragged A LOT. I felt like I had to force myself to go thru it. Some things weren't fleshed out or explained well.
I guess the main thing I liked was that the bond stayed...Solano remained unwavering.

Finished duet. Lots of angst in this one as the King fights to get his mate back. Loved how this all played out in the end.

Although I would have preferred that nasty Gwen broad to have been burned at the stake. Nothing about her lack of punishment made sense. She was an evil twit. But maybe living in the bog w a bunch of girls is punishment enough😂

I waited a long time for this sequel and it was worth it. This book has twists and steam that puts a smile on your face. Lily Archer can do no wrong when it comes to her delicious Fae characters. I definitely recommend her books!!!!

Another great story and ending to Lily Archer's tale!

In this 2nd half of the duology, Emma has been kidnapped by the Prince of the Night Realm, who is no longer a fae. Meanwhile, Solano goes to rescue her and to prepare for the war to come. Emma battles the Prince in mind and in body. At the same time, who betrayed the Day Realm?

I'm looking forward to reading the author's next book!

Worth the wait!

Full of action with lots of steam! Book 2 was everything I've come to expect from Lily Archer, and so much more! And the end was the perfect wrap up and HEA to this duology.
