Cherry on Top: Flirty, Forty-Something, and Funny as F**k

Rate this book
Life isn’t easy when you’re single, pushing fifty, and still haunted by the ghosts of your rock 'n' roll past—but if anyone can find the funny in it, Bobbie can.

The second book by Sunset Strip video vixen Bobbie Brown, Cherry On Top documents Brown’s transformation from 1990’s sex symbol to comedy queen, revealing the dramatic ups and downs of her biggest reinvention yet.

Once the hottest girl on the Sunset Strip, the blonde beauty in the video to Warrant’s 1990s hit, “Cherry Pie” is now in her late forties, and she’s letting her mouth run wild as a headliner on the comedy stage just a few doors down from the rock clubs she once frequented. She’s still smoking hot, but telling jokes about farting on men’s balls isn’t helping her find The One...

Hilarious, sweet, and bitingly honest, Cherry On Top reveals how one gorgeous, potty-mouthed blonde took back Hollywood in middle age, and embarked on a fresh search for love—one fart joke at a time.

We can always count on Bobbie to be honest, as shown by her first book, and this one isn't far behind.

I loved Cherry on Top just as much as the first one, even though there's less about rockstars and more about Bobbie trying to make it in the world of comedy. But honestly, Bobbie could write a whole book of fart jokes and I'd still be happy to read it because she's just that entertaining.

This one felt a bit shorter too, and I wish we had even more crazy stories, but there's always room for more books (Bobbie, if you're reading this, please write another book, or five).

I didn't listen to this one, I read it by myself, but the next time I read it I'll get the audiobook for sure.

This was an excellent read. I read Bobbie's first book and loved it. And with her second book, she didn't let me down. Her voice is so talkative, like she's sitting across from me sharing her story. She's funny, and perfect for stand-up comedy. I must admit I was a bit bummed when the book came to an end and wished Bobbie had more stories to share. I hope she does another book.

First audio book. Was entertaining but not as salacious as the first book. Im happy to hear that Bobbie don't change for noone. I love her lack of filter!

Obviously known as the "Cherry Pie" girl after her appearance in Warrant's video of the same name, it would be so easy to dismiss Bobbie Brown as just another has-been, but you'd be wrong! In this second autobiographical installment (after DIRTY ROCKER BOYS in 2013) we get a more reflective woman. I loved her tales of the Sunset Strip and her marriage to Jani Lane, but this memoir was more vulnerable and personal. She talks openly about her addictions, her perceived failures as a parent, and the string of losers she dated.

I read and watched Pamela Anderson's new book and show and saw the same strength in her that I do in Bobbie. Introspective, reflective, and hopeful are three words that come to mind to describe this book.

If you love stories of strong women or you were an 80s kid who can't get enough of those iconic figures, this is the book for you!

I loved Bobbie’s first book—it was a raw, funny retelling of days gone by and the lessons learned. This one, however, was different. There were definitely funny parts, but it was all CURRENT stories. I’m a high school teacher, and all I could think reading this was that so much of what she wrote and said was exactly what my high schoolers write and say. But THEY are TEENAGERS. I just don’t find a lot of entertainment value in reading about grown women acting like adolescents. That said, it was a fast read, and I still enjoyed her first book. This one just made me cringe.

I loved this book and read it in one day because I couldn’t stop reading! I assumed this was going to pick up where her first book left off and continue the story of Bobbie’s life. While that’s certainly true, what I didn’t expect was to find so many parts of this book that sounded like they were talking directly to me. A discussion of what it’s like to find your life’s path is different from what you thought it was going to be, but can still be good? Talking about what it’s like to be not young, it not old either? This book read like I was talking to a friend who’s going through the same things in life I am. It felt like a restorative conversation with a good friend. The fact that the person in question is the woman I looked up to when I was in junior high because she was married to my favorite rock star is surreal. Bobbie is a celebrity with a unique and interesting life, but still totally relatable and sounds like someone you would love to know....pranks and fart jokes and all!

So…stand up comedians refer to their groupies as “chucklefuckers”. Which might be the greatest piece of information I’ve ever received in my life.

This book humanized Bobbie Brown for me. In both books that she wrote, she confirmed what I already suspected: dating the most desirable men in show business is not for the faint of heart. By that, I mean that one has to be mentally strong to endure the inevitable heartache that accompanies it. But every human being—no matter how strong—has a breaking point.

Many women are often attracted to rich and famous men, and some women will do almost anything so that they can hang around these men. And even though some of these rich and famous men may be married, there is a great deal of temptation in the world, and it goes without saying that many of them will give in to that temptation. That is what I mean by "inevitable heartache."

I grew up in the 1970s and 1980s, and I developed a passion for rock n’ roll from early childhood. In my opinion, the best rock n’ roll was produced in the 1970s, and no other decade can compare. The same can be said for movies. For me, the 1970s was the pinnacle for both music and movies. In the 1980s, I tended to like a broad range of music—everything from pop music or “New Wave” (as some of it was called back then) to rap music. I was never a big fan of the big hair heavy metal bands, and I was relieved when the 1990s rolled around. The musical genre known as “Alternative Rock" that was so popular back then, was a much-needed breathe of fresh air.

I am one year younger than Bobbie Brown. Even though we are close in age and even though I remember seeing the “Cherry Pie” video with her in it back in 1990, I didn’t know who she was back then. It would be more than 20 years before I finally found out who the blonde vixen from that video was.

Even though I was a big rock fan, I seldom followed most rock stars' personal lives. I didn't see any point in lusting over them. For the reasons that I stated earlier, I knew that would be a waste of time. I just wanted to enjoy their music. I certainly didn't know who Jani Lane was, and I had no idea that he and the "Cherry Pie girl" were ever married and had a daughter. Of course, I knew that Tommy Lee married Pamela Anderson back in the 1990s, but this was only because they dominated the tabloids back then. I didn't know that Tommy had dumped another woman just days before he married Pamela.

Fast-foward about 15 years later. I happen to find out about Bobbie Brown’s Book Dirty Rocker Boys and I read a few excerpts from it. Tommy Lee dumping Bobbie for Pamela is the part that initially caught my attention. Then I read the part about her fling with Leonardo DiCaprio and let’s just say that was a huge turnoff for me personally. I kept thinking that this book was about woman who was bragging about how beautiful she had been and how she had slept with every desirable male celebrity in LA. I also thought it was about how bitter she was about the fact that Tommy had dumped her for a woman who looked a lot like her but just happened to be a bigger star than she was. Most of all, I thought Bobbie was bitter over her faded career. I got the impression that Bobbie was jealous of Pamela even though she never admitted this (at least not that I’m aware of). So I abandoned the idea of reading that book in its entirety.

Then, I happened to see Cherry on Top and I decide to give that a try. I listened to it on audible. Something about hearing Bobbie narrate her own book humanized her. Yes, she is often times foul-mouthed and vulgar, but what really struck me is how she can also be very honest and even humble.

Bobbie WAS beautiful. She still is. She knows she's beautiful. She’s had some life’s experiences that many women would give their eye teeth for. I’ve read a few nasty reviews from people who say that Bobbie is a “d-list celebrity,” but I don’t agree with that. She was a beauty pageant winner, she got to appear in sexy rock video put out by a band that was enjoying some success at the time, she was a model, she dated a lot of famous men, and she was married to a rock star. During my life I’ve known many beautiful women, and none of them have ever achieved what Bobbie achieved. Very few women do. And there’s a tiny minority that go on to achieve more than what Bobbie did, but as I just said, they are the minority.

I appreciate the fact that Bobbie has chosen to share her life’s ups and downs with us. During my life, I’ve seen some of the most beautiful women in the world get older. I’ve watched their looks fade over time. It happens to everyone. No one is invincible and no one is immune to aging. I hate to use the expression “hit the wall”, but over the years I’ve heard about famous women having to cope with losing their looks. It sucks, but it’s just a fact of life. Reading celebrity memoirs remind us that they are also human beings. They are not perfect (even though they may seem that way), and they can experience heartache just like the rest of us.

In her first book, Bobbie revealed a vulnerable side to her that I think she has usually kept hidden. I’m talking about her breakup with Tommy Lee. I am unsure of whether or not she really loved him or if she was more insulted by the fact that he dumped her for another women who he married just a few days later. I don’t know if Tommy has ever spoken publicly about his relationship with Bobbie or not (I doubt it), but I wonder what he would say if he did? What was his reason for doing what he did? I personally think he was/is a very selfish person, and he saw a bright, shiny new trophy that he wanted more than the one he already had. I wonder if Bobbie found any comfort in the fact that the marriage between Tommy and Pamela didn’t last very long, and that it had also been a tumultuous one? Tommy recently married a woman much younger than he is, and he tried to hurt Pamela once by posting an unflattering picture of her on social media. I think his actions tell us everything we need to know about him. Bobbie is better off without him.

I agree with another person who said in his review that Bobbie's second book is mostly "filler." But there are some very heartfelt passages in this book that made it worthwhile to listen to. I didn’t care too much for the vulgar language and jokes, but that’s just me. Now that I have a new perspective on Bobbie, I plan to revisit Dirty Rocker Boy and keep an open mind this time.

After a run of really mediocre fiction books, I thought it might be nice to check out a nonfiction one, and I've always loved the 80s/90s rock scene, so why not check out this one in particular one? And I'm so glad I did, because it was so much fun! Like, dude, Bobbie Brown is indeed funny as fuck! Who'd've guessed? Good for her! But this book isn't just funny. It's heartfelt and sometimes heartbreaking, which I should've expected given the whole Janey Lane situation had to come up at least once. I really love that Bobbie Brown did the narration herself, that was great! My only issue was her weird fixation around Jamie Kennedy, which I understand, but he's obnoxious, girl, you could do better. That cost half a star, but y'know what? I had a great time reading this, so I'm rounding up instead of down!

If you were hoping Cherry on Top would be naming names and spilling the tea on your rock n roll and Hollywood favorites just like Bobbie's first book Dirty Rocker Boys, it doesn't, not at all.

Bobbie shares an update on her life after Ex Wives of Rock and tells us what's going on after her break up with scumbag Josh and her comedy show and a few failed attempts at dating weirdos from dating sites.

I was hoping to read about the adventures Bobbie had with the other ladies of the Ex Wives rather than how horny Bobbie is. That's what this book is mainly about. It gets old fast.

Bobbie is so entertaining. I read this book in about a day. I had read Dirty Rocker Boys and absolutely had to catch up with Bobbie 's latest. I found her to be more vulnerable and very humble in this book; not like she wasn't in the first, but she was...I don't know...more self-reflective here? I really do wish Bobbie the best. I also found what she wrote about her dad quite moving - when you're really down, everyone needs someone to love them without judgment.

Not sure why I read this. Her first book was okay--a voyeuristic glimpse into the Sunset Strip scene of 1980s L.A.--but this short sequel just rehashes what she's already said, and documents how she continues to make poor choices with men. Not altogether unenjoyable, but I wish I'd read something else.

Bobbie’s first book was a must read, can’t put down book. So when you hit a home run at your first at bat, it’s hard to do it again. That’s where Cherry on Top falls. It’s good, it’s entertaining, it’s just not Dirty Rocker Boys!
“Cherry” is a quick, funny read, and I appreciate her
openess, and her never give up attitude!

my love for bobbie is deep after reading her two books. her trials, tribulations and victories speak to my soul. she feels like my friend and I've never met her.

my only issue is the short length and the crazy high price for this one.

bobbie, know that you're loved and please write a third book! i love reading about your life <3

Short & free on Audible. After slipping down the stairs and sustaining a head injury, she wants to try stand up comedy as a bucket list new career. Unfortunately, she’s not /that funny—I mean of course not, plenty of stand ups you know of have been doing it about 15 years—but her first book is great entertainment on famous dating and domestic insanity.

Bobbie Brown known as the Cherry Pie Girl and a rock star girl friend has aged. She realizes she made bad choices in her youth along with having a sense of humor. She has ventured into the world of comedy. She still reflects back on some of her relationships and there is a bit of dirt in there.

How did this book find me? It was an Audible sale.

While still funny, outrageous and engaging, I thought this book was too repetitive. There were too many sections taken from 'Dirty Rocker Boys' and I found that frustrating (having read DRB earlier this year). That being said, I understand how Bobbie Brown became famous and captured the attention of so many - she has a quick wit and isn't afraid to fight back, which I admire about her.

I have read both of Bobbie Brown’s books and have enjoyed them a great deal. She’s funny, honest, and self-aware. I kind of can’t get enough of books by folks famous in her era. After reading her first book, it was nice to see how she grew in her comedy pursuits. I root for her.

I really love Bobbie and enjoyed going along with her for another walk down memory lane, but this book didn’t have quite as much dirt as the first. It was good, but not amazing. Still a fun, enjoyable read. That girl has led an exciting life! Lol

The behind the scenes you really want

She’s funny. She’s brutally honest. She’s a 13 year old kid in a rock sexpot’s body. She’s just like the rest of us, but she’s been on a hell of a ride.
