A Season in Hell by Easy Jackson
Tennessee Smith Western #2
Marshall Tennessee ‘Tennie’ Smith is more of a housekeeper, cook and jail keeper for the rowdy and drunk brought in from the plentiful bars of Ring Bit. In the first book she evidently arrived in town as a mail order bride that lost her husband within hours of the wedding ceremony and took on three stepsons. In book two she is engaged to a ranger named Wash but we don’t see much of him. There are plenty of happenings in town, many characters that pass through the story and quite a number of adventures experienced. There is travel by stagecoach and train, kidnapping, murder, robberies, a trip to the south from Texas, boyhood shenanigans and a lot more. This book was packed with adventure and read a bit more like a dime novel than any Western I have read in the past. That said, the story was well written and held my interest. I am not sure what Tennie will end up doing in book three but since this book ends with a rather negative surprise that will require Tennie to make some big decisions there really needs to be at least one more book, I think.

Easy Jackson shows how a woman in the wild west can be strong, yet keep her innocence in A Season in Hell (a Tennessee Smith Western). Miss Tennie is a town marshal for a little town of Ring Bit, Texas. This is only until her Texas Rangers fiancé returns to marry her. While she waits, her three stepsons from a previous marriage keeps her on her toes as they experiment with explosives, rescue her from kidnappers, and witness a train robbery. She volunteers to help two men out of an entanglement they found themselves in, which sends her traveling to new places for her stepsons to find trouble.
A Season in Hell is humorous as Marshal Tennie struggles with controlling her stepsons more changing as grown men. She faces danger with hope and somehow always come out on top, eventually. I enjoyed Easy Jackson's problem solving solution to Hawkshaw's dilemma, though I can easily see the woman who scorned him to come back in the next book. This was a delightful read with much action between the characters. Looking forward to the next in this series.

A Season in Hell continues the story of Mrs. Tennessee Granger, a mail-order bride widowed on her wedding night and left with three stepsons, hellions all. She isn’t quite certain whether being named the marshal of Ring Bit, Texas does her a favor, although it provides a roof over her and the boys’ heads and food on the table. Dealing with the miscreants who pass through town isn’t easy, and when Hawkeshaw, a killer hired to assassinate her friend Lafayette, arrives it gets downright dangerous.
But he’s not the only killer around. In fact, he may be more friend than foe when Tennie is kidnapped by positively nutty outlaws.
Easy Jackson provides plenty of action, humor, and just plain entertaining storytelling. Her characters sparkle with life. Every single one is unique and . . . well . . . a character, good guys and bad guys alike.

Another amazing read in the Tennessee Smith series
After reading book one I’ve been waiting for book two! This is the second book in the Tennessee Smith series. In book one Tennie was a mail order bride whose husband died soon after she arrived and left her to raise his three rambunctious boys, then to top it off she’s appointed the unlikely Town Marshal of the wild town of Ring Bit, Texas. In book two gunman Hawkshaw shows up, as the Marshal Tennie must keep an eye on him until she knows for sure which side of the law Hawkshaw is on. When Tennie finds herself in a heap of trouble after her stagecoach is ambushed, Hawkshaw May just end up being the man she needs to step up and help her shoot her way out of her predicament even if he is mysterious and deadly. I love these books and can’t wait for the next book!

Wow, this can’t be it for this series—it’s SO GOOD! I listened to the audiobook and the entire time I was thinking, “this is the kind of story I wish I could write.” I’ll read whatever Easy Jackson aka Vicky Rose writes, hands down.

I found A Season in Hell to be a pretty read. I am giving it four and a half stars. Looking forward to more by this author.

Loved the book
Miss Tennie gets into more pickles than a pickle barrel, but she does persevere with grace and outward dignity. I hope there are more books to come.
