Running through pastures and forests, hopping over rocks, and splashing through trail running is humanity’s original form of play―an activity we’ve been doing for millions of years. Adventurous runners of all ages, shapes, and sizes are leaving the pavement behind and seeking new challenges. More popular than ever, trail running is growing rapidly around the world.
Trail Running Illustrated offers clear, concise advice on how to get started. Created by two longtime trail runners with a passion for the sport, this book is your key to unlocking a lifetime of exploration and challenges, whether you’re running in your local park or through some of the world’s most remote regions.
I was hoping this would be a little more in depth regarding training, preparation, plans for adapting, etc.. It was easy to read, and even informative to some degree, but it was basically just a common sense approach to trail running. The format reminded me more of a series of magazine articles or side bars. Most pages only held a few short paragraphs or sentences, broken down into what I would call "sound bites". If one were totally new to running this might prove informative.
This is a lively, readable, informative, comprehensive book about trail running, from the very basic (Why trail run?) through detailed chapters on getting started, running technique, shoes, gear, clothing, nutrition, and safety, with a chapter on particular issues facing women. A very useful guide for runners of all levels of experience and expertise, and a fun read.
