The Trouble With Love

Rate this book
Let me list the reasons why we cannot be together...

He is ten years older than me.

He is practically family.

And he is also my father’s business associate.

Amelia Edwards, the daughter of mogul Lex Edwards, is beginning her adult life. Away from home, she’s studying law at Yale and has the freedom of doing whatever she pleases without her controlling father watching her every move.

Family always comes first in the Edwards’ household. So, when her aunt insists Amelia visit her son, Will Romano, she does so out of obligation. The last time she saw him was years ago. But how terrible could it be? They had spent countless summers together, and her parents often referred to him as a son.

What she didn’t expect was a devastatingly sexy man—that is, if you can see past his cocky behavior. Will is an arrogant CEO with only one thing on his mind—becoming the next billionaire.

The rules are simple—they need to keep the affair hidden from their families.

Everything goes smoothly until Will is offered something he can’t refuse. Lex Edwards is going to make Will a billionaire, and all he needs to do is give up the one thing money can’t buy…

It felt completely right to get lost in this book. It had everything I love about a scorching taboo love affair. A 10 year age gap between the heroine and the hero, a forbidden childhood romance, and a red-hot bad boy. I surely didn’t mind losing sleep when it came to this two.

When Amelia decides to move across the country to attend Yale she decides to visit childhood friend for support. The last time Will saw Amelia she was jumping off things, out of things, or speeding through life without a care in the world. How can the same risk-taker teenager that lived life as a rebel be the same beautiful young lady standing in the threshold of his office. Stirring emotions he wasn’t expecting from a witty all grown up 19 year old. Who happens to be the daughter of the man who holds the key to Will’s billion dollar fortune, Lex Edwards. So when she shows up on the footsteps of his company all grown up and need of guidance. He takes upon himself to lead her in the right direction. Directly into his bed.

The story of Amelia and Will doesn’t end with The Trouble with Love. Their fate cont. in book 2, Trouble with Us. It took me a couple of days to decide if I wanted to cont. with book 2. Even though I completely immersed my weekend with this two. I could only give it 4 stars. Only because I couldn’t get passed Amelia’s bad choices. I really needed her to be more feisty, a little less dependable on daddy, and a lot more rebellious towards the men in her life. I’m hoping book 2 will give me what I need...a large amount of kinky times, plenty of groveling from the hero, and lessen the extent which daddy controls.

Did not live up to the hype

I have to stop falling for Instagram ads of books. One star for the kissing cousins, contrived drama over a ten year age difference, long winded, slow, and worst of all BORING

Oh my gosh, I don’t even know what I’m feeling right now. I haven’t read a new book in so long, and this was the perfect story for my return. I usually don’t write reviews about books I love, nor do I do so having just finished a novel (granted it’s also usually the early hours of the morning), but overall: this story is fantastic if you’re looking for something angsty, romantic, passionate, and spanning several books (which I have yet to read). Needless to say, I’m excited to continue the series, if not a tad bit apprehensive that there will be some unwanted plot devices.

I may write a more comprehensive review later, but for now, I would just like to state that I was thoroughly entertained (and made to be emotionally invested) by this book, and look forward to indulging in other works by this author!

My 3am rating on the day of completion (subject to change): 4.5✨

Honestly I didn’t like this book. I’m the kind of girl who hates leaving books midway after she starts them so I had to force myself to finish this book. Firstly, can we talk about how the author calls it “love” when it didn’t feel like that. Somewhere in the book, the female main character gets sick with the flu and talks about how she’s glad the male main character isn’t there with her considering she’s not useful to him cause she can’t have sex with him while sick like wtf? I also felt like their relationship was extremely rushed and didn’t feel the chemistry between the characters at all cause there were barely any meaningful moments between them. I’d say just spare yourself the effort and read a book which is at least well-written.

The dialogue didn't flow naturally and felt weirdly formal between the characters. Amelia's character was inconsistent, and she just didn't come together as a character. Will's character was not special either. Just another manwhore gazzilionaire who "falls in love" with the young doe-eyed college student.

The worst thing about this book was the insane amount of time the older couple were mentioned. The couples' love stories and their dynamics and everything was generally too much. Was this actually a romance novel or was it a long advertisement to go read her other books/series? It was so annoying and it took away from the main couple.

The author also threw in some elements at the end of the book that were EXTREMELY unnecessary and they just confirmed my lack of interest in finishing this series. These things may be considered spoilers so I'll hide them, but, they just need to be mentioned in this review. First of all, ? What was the point of that drama? It didn't add anything to the book and it just made me angry at Amelia's stupidity, irresponsibility and highlighted her immaturity even more. Second of all, . You don't need to highlight her heartbreak or whatever with that particular event for greater effect. That's just weak storytelling skills and again, just prove her parents right that she's not ready to handle this.

Finally, due to the author's annoying insistence to talk about her previous couples, I learnt that she loves a loooong ass separation for the couples, which is one of my biggest pet peeves in romance novels. Her teaser of the next book just confirmed this, where they start-off 4 years later, with Amelia getting engaged to her fucking high school boyfriend, who she broke up with at the beginning of this book. How annoying is that? Definitely sparing myself that shitshow.

It felt like there were gaps in the story. The intimacy was generic and lackluster. Quite frankly most of the scenes were so fast that I couldn’t quite get a hold on the storyline. And when the book was getting good. Then I came to the words, "To Be Continued." The worst.

Having said that, the angst and romance are real. The characters are great. Ava and Liesel always made me laugh so much. And despite of not feeling connected with the author’s writing, I still look forward to the next book to know how this all ends.

DNF at 51%.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I was not impressed. Story was far too slow and boring for me. I fast forwarded to the end and realised it's a series, not a standalone. 😂😂 Safe to say, I won't be reading book 2.

The characters were well written but I expected more...either more back story or more end story. I thought there would be MORE of an age gap. Beware, there's a massive cliffhanher so there's no neat ending.

Love, forbidden or not, is love

"... the stronger the love, the harder the fight. And what terrifies me the most is that the true test is yet to come. Heartache is just around the corner."

She's the daughter of his business partner and mentor. He's her childhood protector and friend. Amelia Edwards and Will Romano grew up as childhood friends, but with almost a ten year age gap between them, their interaction over the last decade has been minimal. Amelia is now nineteen and in her first year at college, while Will has become the owner of his own company and a multi-millionaire. Both their lives are about to change as the result of a simple visit.

"Our bond started well before she stepped into my office. It started only minutes after she entered this world. And in so many ways, that's what terrifies me the most ... I can't see a future without her in it."

Being the eldest daughter of business mogul Lex Edwards is not easy, however Amelia Edwards has learned to live with it ... until now. She has broken out from under his wing by moving across the country to attend college and gain some independence. She has also fallen for a man who her father would definitely not approve of a man with a playboy reputation, a man who is basically a member of her family. Will Romano has spent the last ten years attending college and building up his reputation and company in the Tech Industry. Now he is a successful, wealthy, workaholic, who has everything in life except love. The moment he sees his childhood friend, Lex Edwards' daughter, his mentor's daughter, he knows he's in trouble.

"...forget she even exists because you have no choice. She's everything you can't have. And everything you want at the same time. A deadly combination that never ends well."

Their love is a secret, but is it forbidden? Will may be family, but he's not related by blood. The connection between Amelia and Will is a strong one, founded in childhood, it steadily grows from friendship to lust to love. The chemistry and attraction between them constantly gets hotter and hotter - they have an unforgiving need to be with each other. Are they able to continue their secret tryst without crumbling under the pressure of the betrayal and lies? What will happen if their secret is revealed?

"... that's the trouble with love. It's the greatest feeling in the world, if only for a fleeting moment. Yet, a broken heart will last a lifetime."

Ms. Masen's story had me laughing, crying, getting hot under the collar with Lex (nothing unusual there), pouring out my sympathy more than once, and hoping against hope that Amelia and Will could find a way out of the situation they found themselves in. Their story is emotional, edgy, angst ridden, endearing and fun ... I didn't want it to finish, and it hasn't.

THE TROUBLE WITH LOVE is another UNPUTDOWNABLE read from Kat T. Masen. That cliffhanger .... woman you are so lucky that the next instalment, The Trouble With Us, is not that far away.

There has been only one other time that I couldn't finish a book out of pure cringe. However, this one, I DNF @ 68%. I just can't go on. I'm giving this 2 but I'm being generous because I don't want to be a dick and give it 1.

Amelia and Will are both decent characters outside of everything else. They had a bit of good banter. However, it reminds me a lot of the Fifty Shades in the way that all of this 'rich people shit' is just so over the top. Their lifestyle just gets obnoxious and it's too unrealistic for me to connect with. "Oh yes, just let father buy you a Porsche", "He would have bought a plane, but mom said no", "I attend Yaaaale to study law", "We spent the summer in FRAAAANCE where our family owns homessss", "Father is a billionairrrre." like, okay, we get it. They have money and they're privileged. But of course, Amelia is different. She doesn't neeeeed the fancy car service to bring her to school *eye roll*.

Also, the flow of the book was fine, and it felt fairly natural, but for some reason as soon as the characters speak, it's SO STIFF. It doesn't feel right. No one talks like that, and if they do, like, holy shit get some personality, please.

I literally just could not finish. I feel like it could have been good, but it needed something. Anyways, not for me, man.

While I have not read the previous series about Lex and Charlie, I am so goddamn grateful foould see what kind of torture it would have been. Lex is horrible. HORRIBLE. Not that Will is nay better but still. Lex is controlling and the worst father ever.

And the characters made such a big deal about the girls and boys who were in college. College boys were men and college girls are sluts. That was what the writer was trying to convey in the entire book. I was so tired of that. For the record, everyone is busy studying in college. I hate this representation of college students in books. It’s completely wrong! I’m in college myself and everyone around me is hardworking and dedicated. Where did this misconception of college come from?

Our FMC is so freakin immature. There was no connection between Amelia and Will. Nothing. They were just attracted to each other and suddenly they are in love. Also, miscommunication much? Why dont you talk it out? Lex is such a jerk. He is the real villain. I dont understand why he never gave Will a chance.

This was an okay read. I didn’t know it was a series or part two. About a 10 year age gap; nothing outrageous. More so an issue because he was a close family friend. I’m not sure I’ll read the next one.

The book was AMAZING. I'm still trying to get myself in check after reading it. This was my first book by this author and I'm glad to say that it won't be my last.

This is one of the few books I've read in recent times that I actually liked both MCs and could relate to them so kudos to the author for creating such realistic characters.

The female MC, Amelia, is the daughter of a wealthy and slightly overbearing father (which I can very much relate to), and a very loving mother, Charlie (who has to be my favorite character after the MCs). When Amelia leaves home to New York for school, she finds herself in close proximity with our H, Will, who was practically family to her. They grew up like cousins and were regard by most as such, but when they saw each other after a couple of years in NYC, sparks flew. Amelia was no longer the little troublemaker he remembered, rather she had matured into a beautiful young woman.

A beautiful woman he wanted.

Will, Will, Will...I wish I could keep him for myself. The passion and possessiveness he felt towards Amelia was off the charts despite their ten years difference and I loved watching him slowly rid himself of his playboy ways and fall in love with her despite everything. I loved how mature Amelia was, I almost forgot how young she was sometimes.

But their respective families who they kept relationship a secret from lingered in their minds, mostly Amelia's father, Lex Edwards (who apparently has a book of his own which I'm off to check out) who they knew from the start would be strongly against their relationship. What made the entire thing even more complicated was Lex was essentially Will's mentor and the two did business together. Sleeping with your partner's daughter never ends well.

I'm not going to go too deep into it to avoid spoilers but I would definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a non-cliché romance story with just the right amount of passion, angst and suspense.

This book absolutely grabbed me and didn't let go! As a sucker for age gap romances I was intrigued by this book. Amelia is a young girl embarking on her first year of college. Her high school relationship falls apart due to long distance and she is trying to keep up with her school work while being away from her family. She encounters mutual family friend from her childhood and her father's business partner Will. Will is older but his age definitely falls in the middle of Amelia and her father's. Together these two sizzle on the pages together while fighting the forbidden aspect of their relationship. They keep hiding their growing feelings as long as possible, but ultimately a love like theirs can't remain in the dark forever leaving the reader with one angst filled cliffhanger. I loved both main characters! Will is a jealous alpha who is battling what is best for Amelia and his dreams of becoming a billionaire with her father's help. Amelia is coming into herself and finally on her own for the first time. She's intelligent and fierce without being over the top. I will say this is a second generation book so there are hints at the family back stories that go into further details in another series. But this book intrigued me enough to add that series to my kindle. I'm dying for the second book and can't wait to review the conclusion!

Kat T. Masen has just blown the roof off and there’s just no easy fix, except the next book of course.
This book is a stunning piece of writing by an amazing author. The draw is instant and who doesn’t love an age gap romance with all the added angst and turmoil. Once I started it was hard to stop for anything, and once I finished it left me with a craving for more.
Amelia Edwards and Will Romano are going to rock your world with their forbidden fruit relationship and have you wanting more just to over indulge in all that juicy goodness. All our favourites are back from the Dark Love Series, a little older, a little wiser, and let’s not forget our favourite dirty billionaire Lex Edwards, he’s back with a vengeance and let’s just say that age hasn’t changed our domineering alpha asshole one bit.
What surprised me the most was how different Amelia turned out to be. After reading the Dark Love Series you could almost imagine how this young tomboy would turn out, but the older version is not what I expected but one that I found I gravitated to and admired. And just to make things interesting the new dirty devil Will Romano will definitely melt the panties right off you with all his sexy dominance.
I loved every minute of this book and can’t wait to see what happens next. Kat T Masen has piqued my interest once again and left me with a rather large book hangover.

Kat has once again hooked me with her words and more importantly the storyline. Amelia is on the cusp of womanhood and freedom from her family moving across the country to start college. As they are old family friends, she visits Will at his office and I wouldn’t say sparks fly, but there is certainly an interest on each side.
Honestly the angst in this book almost gave me heart palpitations. The would they or wouldn't they - or most importantly - the should they or shouldn't they? It was as aggravating as it was obsessive on my part. Now I had better not have to wait too much longer for the next instalment - yes I'm talking to you Kat!!

Everything I love in a good age gap/forbidden romance story. Lifelong family friends who haven’t seen each other in years start a relationship. Amelia is no longer the annoying child Will remembers as a teen. The 10yr age difference causes them to lie and hide their attraction from family members. Her father Lex is an overbearing wealthy business man who’s Wills mentor and major investor in his company. Amelias mother Charlie is by far the best supportive, loving and caring mother I’ve ever read in a story. It definitely helps that her own experiences as a young woman are somewhat similar. Ends on a cliffhanger so onto book#2.

I was sold at age gap/forbidden and dived straight into this read. It was addictive and I could not read the pages quick enough. I’m not afraid to admit I couldn’t put it down and devoured it in one sitting and do not regret the 4am finish!

Amelia is moving away from her close-knit family in LA and heading to Yale, to study law, something she is happy about as her dad is always in control of her and she sees this as a way to finally be herself.

She has family over in New York and is encouraged to visit, Will, who she hasn’t seen in years. He’s 10 years her senior and he’s always seen her as the annoying little girl from when his family would visit in the summers when he was younger.

When they meet again, interest is there from both parties, but know nothing good can come of it as Will is seen as her cousin (they aren’t blood-related) and is her fathers business partner who is about to heavily invest in Will’s business that will see him become a billionaire. But when jealous Will rears his head, things start to change and nothing can stop the inevitable.

When they got together, their need for each other was insatiable. As they grew more into their feelings for each other, I was swept away with them and felt their pain with having to keep their secret.

I loved Will and how sure he was about Amelia from the beginning. His jealousy and tracking her down were some of my favourite moments.

Amelia was still heavily controlled by her dad and I wanted her to defend herself more, however, I think her growth is about to shine in book two. Although, with the last few chapters I think we have a little heartbreak before we get there.

This story has the right amount of angst, first with waiting for them to get together and then waiting to see if their secret affair would be found out.

This is the first book by this author for me and I loved it. This is book one and ends on a cliffhanger and I’m away to download book two, The Trouble With Us, for their conclusion.

I haven’t read from this author in a few years so decided to go back and give it a go with this one, and I can say I was very pleased! I think the overall plot of the story was great, and explained the angst and forbidden aspect of their love. I think the story was well thought out, and it does end on a “cliffhanger”. I’m pretty sure this is the first in a duet, but whether I read the next one is still up in the air 🤷🏻‍♀️the writing style was really the only problem I had with this read. I felt there was more telling rather than showing, which makes it hard to get an emotional reaction from me. But nonetheless, had a good time with this one!

Tropes: billionaire romance, forbidden love, age gap, dad’s coworker, forced proximity, secret relationship, ends on cliffhanger!

What can I say... I loved this book.
This book was the perfect start as a follow up to the Dark Love Series and what happened with the next generation.
Will and Amelia will steal your heart... they are so hot together the chemistry is off the charts.
But it was the relationship and animosity between Lex and Will that made this addictive. Two hot alpha males... what else does a girl want.
The cliffhanger at the end has me waiting with bated breath for the next book.
A definite must read!

Don’t start this book before you leave for work, or you will be late! The book was so good, and I especially loved how it featured tied in the second generation characters from the Chasing series! The end of May seems like a long time to wait and find out what happens next!

Will & Amelia’s story is fine. Again, keeps you engaged with the storyline/ drama. It’s nice to see Will isn’t toxic like Lex; doesn’t go out banging chicks just bc he’s jealous. Granted, he’s still annoying about all his rendezvous but it’s not as bad as Noah’s dialogue.

Towards the end, the storyline is totally becoming like her mom’s, Lex & Julian’s story. Interesting…
