Jupiter Gate

Rate this book
Jupiter Gate is the last Arcane Institute to open its vaunted halls to the People. Long respected for cultivating the most brilliant magical minds in history, it's now come under fire with accusations of prejudice and elitism. This year, the Academy promises things will be different.

Or so they say as they hastily pick out a few scholarship charity cases, and however haphazard, Blair Kaine is happy to take the handout. Talent and hard work are worthless without money, and although the moral high ground doesn't put food on the table, her new badge and uniform just might.

Yet she's far from welcome at Jupiter Gate, and everyone from the highbrow vampires and Nephilim to the sinister Fae all have it out for the mundane mortals in their midst. This is an altogether different world, and they're about to show her how out of her depth she is, especially the so-called "Archangel" Zed who runs roughshod over the entire school and has it out for her from day one.

But with a little help from friends in equally low places, Blair Kaine is about to turn their whole world upside down.

This is Jupiter Gate Academy, and class is now in session.

"It's only murder if they considered us equals."

Blair Kaine did not expect an easy ride at Jupiter Gate, but she could only prepare herself so much. Between controlling her own reactions, protecting her friends, ducking the bullies, and battling the weird effect a certain nephilim has on her, Blair is in for an intense semester with plenty of twists and turns.

This is the first academy book I have read in so long. I usually steer clear of them because I find it hard to relate to the younger characters. But this one caught my attention, and I am so glad I decided to give it a chance! It is a really interesting, unique story with great worldbuilding and well developed characters who have strong, distinct personalities.

I found myself really invested in the characters. When Blair got bad news, I was equally devastated that things weren't working out as she had planned. When she was hoping to kick some ass, I was rooting for her. She is a really likeable, relatable character that has realistic flaws that she struggles to get under control.

I am honestly so excited to read more! Although the book doesn't end on a cliffhanger, it ends in a way that leaves me with no idea what's going to happen next. I can't wait to see how the story develops... and admittedly, I'm curious to see what will happen with Zedekiel.

This book has such a beautiful cover, and the inside is just as good! It reminds me a little of the show Fate: The Winx Saga except this is much grittier. Of course, this is a completely original story, but I feel a similar vibe - and I happen to love both.

I'm delighted to have received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Best Academy story I've ever read with fantastic characters all brimming with personality. The world building is just sublime. Definitely looking forward to reading more in the series and following Blair, Addy and Genie as they continue on at Jupiter Gate.

The story begins as our main character Blair arrives at her new school and meets the two other humans scholarship students getting ready to attend Jupiter Gate Academy. Honestly, Blair did not make a good first impression - she's immediately SO judgy of the other girls and her superiority complex is shining through. I had a hard time starting out because I wasn't sure I wanted to keep hearing her narration after this first meeting, but within a few chapters, she acknowledges that she was a bit unfair and her attitude really changes. The three humans team up to face their new peers (who are either fae, nephilim, or vampires) and we learn that they are there for a much deeper purpose than the scholarship program lets on... Without giving too much away, I just want to say that if you enjoy magic school/training, standing up to bullies, sneaking around, secret plots (and just all around secrecy everywhere), being kept on your toes, and (my personal favorite) an uber protective dose of enemies to lovers romance (not super confirmed we have a couple good scenes and this series is absolutely headed that way), then this book is absolutely worth picking up!! I had to push myself through the beginning, but once we got rolling I was hooked and I am now eagerly awaiting the rest of this series!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Thanks given to Mana Sol for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Jupiter Gate drew me in quickly and kept me close throughout. I thoroughly enjoyed Blair's smart-assery and internal tug of war. She felt relatable in how she tries to overcome her self acknowledged character flaws but doesn't quite manage it. There is real excitement in the world building and plot and despite the typical interspecies rivalries, this feels fresh.

I'm so eager to know more about Genie and what's happening out beyond the wall. Plus, soon enough, Blair and Zed will have to properly acknowledge their cute little simmer!

I dont want to give away too much if you are thinking of reading this book as I read this book pretty much in the blind and I really felt it added to my experience not knowing what to expect!

This is by far my favourite academy read! Its on similar lines to Vampire Academy except add in Nephilim, and fae aswell! If you enjoy magic schools, a little bit of school drama (in the form of bullies!), secret plots, teachers to make you drool lol.. i see you Cato 👀, being kept on the edge of your seat, a slow burn/ overprotective enemies to lovers romance(i am so calling it) and some action/adventure then you should definitely give this book a read!

I loved the characters, and found myself on a rollercoaster of emotions along with the characters. They all had personalities that i found relatable.. reacted to situations how i know my friends and i would also react!

I am looking forward to the next installment of the Arcane Series despite the book not ending on a huge cliffhanger. .. i just need to know what the girls, Zed and others get up to next! I can not wait.

I 100% recommend this book, espeically to lovers of Vampire academy , the Netflix show the Fate: winx saga! And magical school settings!
.
The author did send me this book in return for an honest review. But i loved it so much, I have since purchased a paperback of it as i prefer physical books and future books of the Arcane Series will now have a place on my bookshelves!

I really liked this book. I mean there is an elite school with a lot of different panormal creatures. The world like we know ended and the humans are now the weakest link in the society. And there are nephilims. Do I have to say more?
The MC is really badass and can look after herself. She goes to the elite school with two other girls and they are the only humans there. Most of them at their school, don’t like that they are there. And of course there is a motive, why the tree girls are allowed to go there to school.
What was a little confusing for me is that the tree girls have magic. I liked the different relationships in the story, but I hope that we will see more in the next book. Most of the abilities from the different kinds are not exactly explained, but I think we will learn more in the next one. I am looking forward to read the next one.

I really enjoyed the book with the "Academy" concept. I also really liked how there were different creatures all together.

However, I don't think I will be continuing the series. Only because it's my preference. The book was very well written and had a great plot that could continue on.
