Secrets of the Mermaid

Rate this book
Meet Indigo Rain, a beautiful but lonely mermaid. Regretful of a dark past, she has vowed to remain alone and research ancient merfolk tribes. When she unearths a seabed burial site that even she cannot identify, she shares this with a High Council merfolk historian. But she keeps one shocking secret to herself.

Bay Finley is the flirty, dashing Royal merfolk Keeper assigned to teach Indigo on Pyreshore, a glamoured city of supernaturals tasked with keeping the invaluable knowledge alive. Indigo thinks Bay is a haughty know-it-all. She also thinks he’s dangerously handsome. He’s engaged to Abigail Torrent, a Royal, unlike Indigo. But he’s spending lots of time with Indigo in the lab…

Indigo has three quests:
Uncover the mystery of the burial tablet, resist falling in love, and never, ever reveal her biggest secret, even to the Keepers.

Some secrets heal, some kill. Other secrets change life as we know it.

What a great intriguing story. Full of mystery, love and history. A story about a mermaid named Indigo that finds an artifact at a hidden burial site. She has the urge to hide the artifact to keep it safe and hidden. She really doesn't understand why she feels this way. You will love this story as you turn each page. I love the characters in this story. Her life will be forever changed. She goes from a unknown family to meeting with a Royal to help find out the meaning of the artifacts. I highly recommend. Waiting for your next great book to come out. I am going suggest this book to the book club I am in. I know we can have some great discussions. If you want a book you can't put down, this is it. I highly recommend.

Indigo Rain discovers an ancient plaque in a seabed burial site and is asked to become an esteemed Keeper. She is paired with the handsome Bay Finley, who is a Royal merfolk Keeper. His haughty attitude infuriates her, but there is something that draws her to him. Indigo must unravel the mystery of the plaque before the threats on land and in the sea kill her.

This is another incredible book in the paranormal romance series, The Keepers of Knowledge. I love the author's take on merfolk. The marvelous history of the merfolk and how they evolved to mingle with people on land. Indigo is not your typical sea beauty. She's the daughter of a kelp farmer and an intelligent scientist. Bay seems like a playboy prince at first, but his layers peel back as Indigo gets to know him. I love the twists and turns this story took me on, and the unique settings underwater alongside the now familiar town of Pyreshore.

Indigo is a mermaid she's trying to move on from a dark past. She discovers a seabed burial that she isn't sure what it means. Indigo tells the High Council some of what she discovered but has one secret she has kept. Bay is a Royal Merfolk Keeper and has been tasked with teaching Indigo. Bay and Indigo grow closer during their time together. However, Bay is engaged to someone else. Will something more come between them? What will he do when he learns that Indigo is keeping a secret?

This is a great story that will captivate you from beginning to end. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book.

"The story sounded promising. 'An or*y's lots more fun'. Can't deny it TBH. I was eagerly waiting for that scene. I thought 'this is my place' yet soon after, my hopes were crashed and it hurt. Is it really complicated to ask for super extreme ste*my scenes? But I must confess, Indigo was the first FMC in a long time that enjoyed makeup and didn't started with the 'I barely use makeup, I fell fake using it, can't understand girls that use tons' utterly annoying. Makeup is life! If someone denies it well... you sure you know how to apply it?

Anyway, back to tbe story. The plot felt so slow almost 30% and nothing I don't know how to put it, amazing? Plus this was the first time in well ages that I didn't fall in love with the main lead (at first). I'm impressed, not sure in a good or bad way. But, Bay was just, how old was he? His attitude pissed me off and not in a 'cocky and hot a*f' way. Maybe it was the whole fiancé thing? Not sure though I didn't like it.

Back to the story, the whole investigation was quite good. I'm not a scientist but I do enjoy the knowledge as a result of an investigation.  And also the mystery about the crying was interesting. I was grateful because like I said at first it was slowly.

Like I said, I didn't like Bat first but slowly he started to 'change' not so sure how to describe him. But I really loved how he ended up things with Abigail. The whole 'tame you' was hilarious! Anyway, the ending was good and the epilogue too. Sweet and romantic. Cheers for Luna."

Indigo has made an important discovery which brings her out of her exile and thrust into the spot light of the mer community. She is now a keeper and is interning with a sexy merman . Bay Finley. He is a royal and is engaged to a royal but why is he spending so much time with Indigo. Will Indigo be able to keep her secret and figure out the mysteries of the tablet . Will she be able to keep the one secret and figure out the other two and keep her heart intact
This is a book about super naturals and the secrets they keep . This one we meet Indigo and Bay who are merfolk. Indigo is a sweet woman who is hiding a big secret . she has so much to prove to the keepers and to herself. Bay is well at the beginning of the book he was a playboy but as we watch him through out the book he really becomes a sweet guy who wants to do right . They are well written and complex and they grow with each turn of the page.
This book isn't your straight up mermaid book. There is so much that goes on through out the book . There is intrigue . romance and a mystery . The author has built a wonderful universe with vibrant characters and a great story . I got sucked into the story by the end of the first chapter . I will say there was a twist in the story that kind of threw me for a loop . I was like what the heck is going on . Over all I truly enjoyed this book and if you want a great story with a twist . Add it to your reading list.

This story gave me everything I wanted from it and then a little bit more. Maybe it’s the anthropology major in me and maybe it’s just general human curiosity, but I absolutely adored getting to follow Indigo as she unearthed artifacts and looked into her peoples’ past. I adored her unearthing the mystery surrounding her tablet and the secret she’s keeping from everyone.

Following Indigo and Bay was a great way to give two different perspectives into the story as it unfolded. Both people of scientific mindsets, it was fascinating to see the way they tackled the mystery around their artifacts so differently. Yet one ends up believing what they see as fact while the other remains a skeptic way longer than I would have been.

While this is the sixth book in the series, each book is written by a different author about a different supernatural race within this world – vampires, mimics, witches, merfolk, gargoyles, sphinxes, werewolves, fae, and the other animal shifters. This makes it extremely easy to pick up any of the stories regardless of their “order” in the series. I’m thrilled to have picked up Secrets of the Mermaid – clearly, the story about the merfolk – as an introduction to the series as now I can’t wait to continue on with the world. What else will these supernatural creatures have in store?

I liked the idea of the story and as a whole it was enjoyable. Several things bothered me. There were some odd word choices. It's almost like they consulted a thesaurus. For example torrid...I don't think they got the meaning correct. The actual use was describing the warmth and sexiness of his chest buy why not just say hot or sexy? Then I had to laugh at this one. Venus triangle to describe her lady bits? I mean was this on purpose? Is this supposed to be a tongue in cheek book? Certainly didn't seem like it so I'm a bit confused. Word choice for his bits was cock so I'm confused why not use p**sy for hers? That's the technical part I had noticed. I must admit I liked Indigo but didn't like Bay. At all. He seemed to grow super fast as a character the last 2 chapters. Before that he was extremely full of himself and rude and was an as*. Indigo kinda had a one track mind which is her research because honestly she had nobody else and it was probably a way of protecting herself. What happened to the human sailor she was seeing whenever he came from his duties? It was talked about in the beginning but we heard nothing else about him. She was considering being with him but unsure she wanted to give up being a mermaid. So, in my opinion this just didn't flow well. This had a lot of potential but fell a little short for me.

Secrets of the Mermaid by Catherin Stine is fantasy rich with action and adventure.  We follow Indigo Rain as she uncovers hidden artifacts at underwater burial sites. This discovery takes her on an unexpected journey of a lifetime.
This story has something for every reader to enjoy from fantasy to adventure with a handsome love interest thrown in to spice things up. There is mystical lore and mythology to learn about  while exploring a beautiful world. I am not going to give too much away in this review because I want you my followers to experience this for yourselves. There are paranormal aspects at play during this story, so it keeps the story fresh and doesn’t lose pace. The world building is impressive and detailed, so you feel emersed in your surroundings which I love so you feel like you are part of the story not just reading about what is happening. There is a bit of danger and excitement throughout this tale so you will get a thrill from time to time. Overall, I would suggest this to anyone who likes fantasy reads with great world building and action.

I want to thank Catherine Stone for sending me a copy of this book! I was so excited to pick up this book, it is the first mermaid book I have ever read! It did not disappoint! This book revolves around a mermaid named Indigo Rain and she has some secrets of her own that she does not want to tell anyone. She believes she will spend the rest of her life alone and she spends a lot of her time researching ancient merfolk tribes. She discovers burial site that she can’t identify and she goes to a high council merfolk historian. However, she withholds a secret to herself. Then comes Bay Finley who is assigned to teach Indigo how to keep the knowledge of supernaturals alive. This was such a fun book! I was rooting for the main character and I wanted the best for her! She has made some mistakes and she feels so much remorse for it and because of that she feels she shouldn’t be happy! When I’m reality she deserves it and I was so happy for her by the end of the book! I didn’t want to say goodbye to her! I wanted to keep reading about her!

The orb she hides in her basement as it calls to her and some instinct tells her to keep it hidden. But the tablet is her entry into becoming a Keeper of Knowledge, and she must work with a Royal Merman named Bay to decipher the tablet’s meaning. But Indigo and Bay are in danger and have been sent threatening messages. And an attempt has been made on Bay’s life. What Indigo discovers is awesome and inspiring. I loved the lore and mythology of this book and I am do intrigued by the thought of uncovering an artifact that none if your kind understands the glyphs on it. Indigo is a young mermaid from a less known family that finds exactly that! Well more than one artifact actually a hidden burial site. Indigo initially hides the artifact for reasons she can't fully explain almost a instinctual desire to keep it safe and hidden.

Through this discovery Indigo becoming a Keeper of Knowledge, and she begins working with a Royal to decipher one of the artifacts meaning.

Fascinating story and world building. I can't wait to follow more in the series.

Such a great read!

My Review: The plot makes sense with all the history of merfolk included. Great to know so much about the merfolk. For the starters this really teaches you so much. Coming to the plot and the characters , the FMC and the MMC are well written. The plot is not really new but it is catchy. Readers will never feel monotonous , because the plot keeps gliding. Can be read to enjoy the merfolks story , which in my opinion makes this a good book.

My Recommendations: Zoe chant , Milly Taiden, Harmony Raines fans will like this book.

My Rating: 3.5/5

A magical, intriguing journey under and above the water. Forget what you knew about mermaids, Stine has brought a fresh new twist to them. I absolutely fell in love with Indigo from the start. There's just something about her that draws you in. Bay stays by her side as she works to unearth the truth of the tablet, even when it places their lives in danger. With an intriguing mystery woven in, this paranormal romance will keep you turning pages for hours. Highly recommend!

Secrets of the Mermaid is a fun mermaid mystery story. It's part of a larger series that follows different supernatural characters and the hidden community they live in. Secrets of the Mermaid is, obviously, about mermaids and it's a really interesting take on them. It's part mystery, part romance, and has some fun twists and turns. I like that each book in the series can be a standalone but also work together, and the other books sound fun too.

There’s some interesting world building going on in this book, both in the broader paranormal world the author builds and in the history of merpeople. I liked Indigo, the FMC, but felt the MMC, Bay, fell flat. The writing style did not match my reading preferences, so if you like the kinds of books I do, this might not be for you. But if you really like mermaid stories, you might enjoy this take. I received an advance copy and this is my honest review.

Nice merfolk lore

I really liked the different mermaid/merfolk lore. While the epilogue kind of felt rushed, it doesn't take away from how well the story was written. All of the characters were great. There were a couple of times I thought things would go one way and they went another unseen direction, I liked that!

Secrets of the Mermaid

Mermaids and mysteries! I really enjoyed the overall concept and mystery. The sprinkle of danger and suspense kept me turning the pages. However the characters and dialogue were a bit overdramatize and just didn’t work for me.

The idea of the book is very good and kept me guessing til the end. It is a simply written story and sometimes they repeat the same thing over and over. It is also very slow paced but it get better in the last chapters. Overall is a nice book to read.
