“Each and every seed is a tiny package containing all the raw ingredients necessary for a new life. They’re little miracles really.”
GrowVeg was the very first YouTube garden channel I watched when I started learning how to garden last year. I look forward to Ben’s quirky yet motivating videos each week! I was always so afraid to garden because it looked so difficult and stressful. Once I started watching his videos and learned how to actually keep plants alive, I realized it’s not that hard at all. Gardening has become incredibly therapeutic for me.
From planting seeds to sharing steps to build a raised garden bed, Ben touches on SO much valuable information in this book that will get you started building your very own garden right away. The book is filled with stunning photography and step by step directions that teach you how to plant seeds, build structures, create a sustainable food supply, and enjoy the miracle of growing food. I highly recommend this book to those who may be just starting out on a gardening journey and to those who may need to review the basics. I also highly recommend the GrowVeg YouTube channel for quick videos on a range of topics that are so very helpful! Ben makes gardening so much fun and breaks down the garden tasks into steps that are so easy to follow. 🌱❤️
This is a helpful guide for anyone getting started with vegetable gardening—especially if you’ve ever watched Benedict’s videos on YouTube. His tone in the book is just as clear, friendly, and encouraging.
The tips are practical, the layout is easy to follow, and the advice doesn’t assume you already know everything (which I appreciate!). Whether you’re planting in raised beds, containers, or your backyard soil, this book breaks it down so you feel confident getting your hands dirty.
Great for beginners, but even experienced gardeners will find a few gems in here. Definitely worth reading—and keeping close as a reference through the seasons.
I really wanted to know all of the basic things, like how to compost, what to do when the cold seasons arrive, how to keep my plants dying. Instead we got the bare minimum information for a bunch of different plants, as well as fun ways to grow them in unorthodox planters. While fun, I still don't feel like I know much more since a lot of the info was still beyond what I knew. I guess this is less a beginner's guide and more of a "once you know the basics" guide.
What a great little introduction to gardening. A beginners' guide to growing a garden, this book tells you everything you need to know about starting from seed, raised beds and how to build them, straw bale gardening, and what are the easiest plants to grow and how to do it. An excellent resource for those just starting out.
This book is fine, but doesn't offer anything unique or particularly informative. The "projects" are mostly insipid and repetitive. There isn't much specific information. But for a true beginner it would be a good intro I guess.
Great book for the beginning gardener. Lovely photos and lots of great projects for starting out. Some interesting tips for more experienced gardeners seeking inspiration also. A good choice to get as a gift for a newbie and from your library for those who’ve done some gardening already.

A great gardening book for new gardeners and those who want more details or support around specific issues. This book includes beautiful color photographs that provide step by step details. I am not a new gardener but I am a little rusty and plan to purchase this book for my personal collection.
