From dark romance author Lorrain Allen comes an explosive enemies-to-lovers romance about an antihero who wants his pound of flesh and the woman he never forgot.
I gave her my heart, but she broke it, so now I'll give her my rage.
I never considered the possibility of us crossing paths again.
When our gazes connect, an internal switch clicks on.
The last words she spoke to me whisper through my mind like a mantra, causing the sleeping beast to come roaring to life with a taste for her blood.
I need her to bend to my will, so I make her an offer she can't refuse.
Once my desire has been fed, I'll toss her away like a piece of garbage right after I destroy her, reducing her to nothingness.
She'll regret the day she dared to betray me.
Her debt must be repaid in pain, and I will not rest until I have my pound of flesh.
Karma is a bitch that has finally come for her, and it's hungry for retribution.
WARNING: This book features an out-of-control, jealous antihero, abuse, graphic language, explicit sex scenes, and other subject matters some readers might find triggering. Arthur King is not a comfortable antihero to read about. If you expect a redeemable antihero this book is not for you. He does NOT grovel or beg. A detailed content warning can be found on the author's website.
This is book 2 in a duet and cannot be read as a standalone.
Lorrain Allen, aka Trigger Queen, wrote her first book, The Fox and the Box, at just six years old for a class assignment—and never looked back. In middle school, she joined the poetry club and competed in several poetry slams, further fueling her lifelong love of storytelling. As a young adult, she became a full-fledged romance book junkie. That obsession eventually led her to dark romance, where she discovered a passion for the darker, more twisted side of love.
Noticing the lack of dark romance novels centered around women of color, and inspired by the many creative authors she admired, Lorrain decided to write the kind of stories she wanted to read. While she plans to explore other romance subgenres, her primary focus remains nontraditional dark romance featuring unapologetically flawed, nonredeemable antiheroes.
Lorrain lives on the East Coast with her handsome son. When she’s not writing or devouring books, she enjoys traveling, experiencing different cultures, shopping at the mall, catching a movie, or discovering new-to-her restaurants. A self-proclaimed foodie, she’s always on the hunt for her next favorite dish.
The themes in her books may be controversial—but what’s life without a little controversy?
FIRST BOOK Background: In the first book Cin, the heroine had a boyfriend and cheated on him with Art, the hero. They were teenagers at the time. Cin is guilty of cheating BUT the Art knew that she had a boyfriend and at first he really didn't care that much. It said that it just sex and so long as she gave it to him he didn't care who she screwed. The hero also got bj from two other women and so it is not like Art was faithful the Cin. Also the Cin didn't cheat Art, she cheated on her boyfriend.
At the end of the book some information about the Art came out and he blamed Cin even though she was innocent. He left her and moved on with his life including becoming a total manwhore, treating women like Kleenex. He used them once and then threw them away.
THIS BOOK The story picks up around 8 years later. While driving Art sees a woman on the road, having car trouble, blocking him. He had no choice but to get out of his car and help. At that time he had a woman in his car giving him a bj. He pulls over and tells the woman to get in the car. It ended up being Cin. At first neither knew who the other was because visibility was poor due to the heavy rain. However when Art realized who Cin was he had the woman continue giving him a blow job and locked Cin in the car so she could not escape. She had to hear and see it. I didn't realize it at the time that it was foreshadowing of what was to come. After he came he threw the OW out of the car, basically stranding her with words about how poor her bjs were, that she needed to work on doing a better job.
Even after 8 years Art is still mad at Cin, blaming her for something that she didn't do. Also he thinks that since she cheated with him that she will always be a cheater. However it is clear that is not true. She made a mistake as a teenager. Unlike Art who had sex with a lot of OP during the separation, Cin didn't. When the story opens 8 years later the last time she had sex was 3 years prior.
In this story, Art was a vile to Cin. He was verbally and physically abusive jackass and Cin kept taking it even though he got progressively worse. He called her a slut and whore in front of other people. He made her eat off of the floor. He threw her against a wall where she hit her head hard. He forced anal sex on her. He started to control everything about her and she kept letting him. At first she told herself that it was for the money to get help for her mother and then later she admitted to herself it was because she loved him and felt half dead without him. Her friends and family told her that he was bad for her that she was letting him abuse her but she didn't listen to them. I started to dislike her almost as much as him for being such as masochist. Total doormat.
Around 85% of the story Art crossed the line for me. Due to his insecurity Art had forbidden Cin from even talking to other men. One day she had lunch with a man she causally dated in the past. They had just run into each other. It was an innocent encounter.
Art accused her of cheating, which she denied. At this point they are engaged and she is pregnant with his child. They have exchanged "I loves yous" and are living together. Hero handcuffs her to the bed and brings another woman into the bedroom. Then he has the woman get on the bed where Cin was handcuffed. He proceeds to have sex with the OW right in front of the heroine. The OW is facing Cin as is Art. Art enjoys emotionally hurting her and comes. She closed her eyes the entire time but could hear them and feel them moving.
Cin is understandably extremely distraught, crying and when Art releases her she runs out of the house, gets into a car, speeds away and then gets into an automobile accident. She is seriously injured and ends up in the hospital.
Art never grovels nor even apologizes to her. Basically though that she should just get over it, that it was just sex. Total hypocrite. Cin cannot even talk to OM but Art having sex with OW in front of her where she had no choice to witnesses it because he restrained her is something that she should just forget. My hope that Art would be redeemable was extinguished at that point, at 85% of the story. There was going back for me, a line was crossed that could not be undone.
I feel confident that Art will cheat on Cin in the future as well. Anytime Art felt insecure about their relationship, which was common, he blames and punishes Cin. Art having sex with OW was to punish her for interacting with OM. Why wouldn't he do it again? It worked in that she really got upset BUT didn't leave him long term. She stayed with him.
Cin basically admits that no matter what Art does she will stay with him and apparently that includes cheating right in front of her. Art could beat her to the point of hospitalization and she would still stay. Cin is an emotionally and physically battered woman and there is no HEA for her.
It honestly made me feel sick and I am sorry that I read this book. I wish that I had been warned so I didn't read it but all of the reviews that I read not only didn't mention the cheating nor the emotional and physical abuse but had glowing reviews. Some talked about how great Art is. Really?

Low rating is not for the fact that this book has triggers because I can handle it. What I couldn’t stand was the “heroine” she was honestly the most pathetic, annoying woman that I have read about in a long long time. This woman was not only stupid but she was selfish and self absorbed. She can say all she wants that everything she did was to help her mum and son but it was glaringly obvious that she actually did everything to benefit herself. She was a sex crazed materialistic selfish cow that loved getting everything paid for by Art, she loved him beating her up because again she’s a horny cow and she hated listening to good advice from people who loved her because she is a desperate pathetic human being who would rather live with an unstable man than without him. Again I will say I love dark books and I even love the unstable anti hero’s even more but I need a likeable heroine or least someone I can respect as the lead female. This woman was disgusting and I honestly cannot believe she was literally putting a guy over her son. Her family were right to point that out to her and again she ignored that because her wants was more important. How she also forgave him after one scene near to the end I just can’t fathom but then again it shows how weak she is. Nothing likeable about either of them but I always have a higher expectation of my female leads and this one was the worst. Her character and lack of self respect and self preservation was truly unbelievable. Worst female character for me this year!

I loved the intensity of Art and Cin. He was truly psychotic in his love for her...jealous and possessive to the extreme. Then at 85% the author (I’ve loved all the books I had previously read by her) had Art do such an unforgivable act...I just couldn’t get past it. And worst of all...he was basically unapologetic for what he did and what it caused. There was no grovel...there wasn’t even an apology! And Cin goes on to a HEA with this guy...sorry...he became unredeemable and I was done. I give a 2 star rating cause it was great until this point...but this action ruined he book for me...I was so and disappointed!
Lol, you just got to put a stop somewhere. You can't just name it dark romance and put all kind of BS in it smh. Why is this even considered romance? Since when
Anti-H is one thing but cheaters just don't deserve anything good esp after all the abuse he put the h thru. There's sthg really wrong with the way the authors are writing their characters.🤧
Style: Dark Romance Story: 3/5 Enjoyment: 4/5 Dark Level: 4/5 Sexual Level: SEX-CITINGLY GOOD Triggers: Yes (TRIGGERS w/RED FLAGS) Violence: No Male: Angry & Damage Series: Book 2 Pages: 313 Audio: N/A Kindle Unlimited: Yes
STORY: Whelp..... still walking away, needing therapy and traumatized. This book will definitely have the I love it and the no it’s degrading readers. So pick a lane. I'm thinking I fall in the middle. THE WHOLE BOOK, no joke I read in one sitting with my jaw to the floor catching flies. At 85% WTF, at 91% WTactualF and the whole damn book, WTFFFFFFFFFFFF.
In book two, I don’t think there is a word yet in the English dictionary created for Art. He surpasses manipulative, possessive and obsessive, he is worse than a stalker. He is so intense, literally your mind does not get a moments rest because of something that Art is doing. He goes from 0 to infinity in regard to anger. He is like the hulk but WORST!
Cin, if you are looking for a strong female character, she is not it. I give it to her though, she knew what they have been and is toxic and that toxicity was her drug of choice.
The story picks up 8 years later, so this is not high school like book one. Art is rich and now runs the family business. Cin, is broke and lives from check to check. See where I’m going with this? Art makes her an indecent proposal she could not refuse, thus, continuing their crazy relationship.
Honestly, it was an oncoming train that I know will crash but couldn’t look away. Was I appalled at Art’s behavior, yes, but it was a little exciting as well (I’m wired differently, what can I say) because I’m reading fictional characters. Their love was unlike anything I have read in a while, and I am obviously not talking about sweet and romantic.
CHEMISTRY: Toxicity, possessiveness and obsessiveness breeds rough and crazy sex. That’s pretty much the entire book between Art and Cin. The ride was crazy, but I was here for it.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS: Out of this whole toxic crazy relationship comes Mason and Sebastian with such joy. I do detest, Art’s mother. She created and started this whole cycle. That was the only situation I wanted closure on after what she did to Mason.
OVERALL, basically, you are reading about a toxic and abusive relationship. I was shocked but not that much to stop reading.
✰✰TRIGGERS: THE WHOLE DAMN BOOK.
****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.
I should never have started this book I should never have finished it I should not entertain their story in my mind even after I've read it
I don't know why I got involved or why I continued to immerse myself in their madness once I realized where it was going
I just know that he is an unapologetic miscreant with atrociously vile thoughts, words and deeds I just know that she is a willing victim to his mistreatment and machinations
he is maliciously abusive, a tormentor and all the other issues that go with being this person and she knows this firsthand
so I have NO idea why is she shocked when he ties her up and cheats, forcing her to watch him have sex with another woman WHILE they are in a committed relationship (granted, he didn't promise exclusivity, but he demands it of her....so...)
I've read many heroes who are as obsessed with the h as this one is, but cant recall offhand, a H who physically and emotionally abuses (not talking kinky bdsm here) the h.
anyway, their hea seems solid and they're probably gonna kill each other in the end because he cant live without her so he definitely isn't going to die without her
Note here for my future self in case I wondered wth I was doing reading this in the first place: I want to give this book 4 stars but I feel like it would convey that I condone domestic violence and psychological abuse, even though I know it goes against everything I stand for and belief in. So I can't be that person who, in all good conscience, allots a 4 star rating here even as I know my 3 star enjoyment of this book is in no way indicative of my acceptance of the storyline.

I affirm I’m literally stunt and impress by this author's work. Her commitment and willingness to write books so dark, so brutally and painstakingly sadistic is impressive.
Once again, I'm smitten by Lorrain Allen’s s writing. Ms. Allen storyline is easy to follow, it doesn’t lack a descriptive or compelling engaging plot line. It achieves a decent balance between obsession and submission by using its own blend of toxicity that is characteristic of many dark romances.
I was already energized for this book for its a Literature chef-d'oeuvre unlike any other. The blurb promises a thrilling tale about revenge, consequences, and nuisance. Ms Allen delivered on that.
When Art Fall is surprisingly well-crafted for a follow-up novel.
In this installment the book took off where the last one left off. It was mainly about Art and Cinnamon toxic relationship and submission.
Art still nursing a grudge vows revenge on Cinnamon believing that she outed his secrets years ago and swore solemnly to make her pay.
Years passed and they both had moved on. Art still is bitter, but somehow managed to get richer while Cinnamon on the other hand suffered daily for her consequences because of her poor decisions.
When these two eventually meet after years of not seeing each other everything broke loose. Art became Lucifer reincarnated and was never remorseful for the things he did or put Cinnamon through. He was a certified psycho and never made any apologies for it. He is definitely an evil man to the rotten core, with a wicked, filthy mouth and a don’t care attitude.
At times Art showed that of a man devoid of emotions, only behind that cold exterior reveals a man with a softer side. Cinnamon still was that naive girl foolishly thinking that she could fix Art. In my judgment, she was either dumb for putting up with Art mistreatments or genuinely a lover of pain.
I love a dark read, and this is one is the darkest one I’ve read in some time. My stomach did so many flip flops and was queasy while being utterly consumed by this darkly book. It's definitely not for the faintest of hearts.
When Art Falls is a creative crazy book that simply puts me in a good place even if though it’s told from one the filthiest of book Heroes POV.
I very much enjoyed Ms Allen, literacy writing and her style of communicating emotions, and love and I also appreciate the way she forges meaningful connections between the characters. I instantly overcame what qualms I had about the triggers inside this book and continued to be amaze by it.
I do think that When Art falls is a thoughtful, well written book. I took my time reading this jewel and was captivated until the very conclusion. And I can state without a doubt that it was an enjoyable ride the entire time.
I am looking forward to reading Ms. Allen future work for she’s undeniably in a league of her own.
I would recommend this book if you’re into masochism, strong sexual themes, betrayal, jealousy, questions of consent and non consent, toxic love, and obsessive conduct.
This low rating expresses what I felt for the FMC evolution. I hated how weak and pathetic she became, she wasn't very likable in the first book, but here, she simply had no moral compass!

This was really good it’s dark twisted and intense this couple is toxic af together but I was still rooting for them all the same ! The angst the drama the steam I devoured this story Art is a psycho he’s a possessive and controlling OTT antihero but I love his love for his brother and Cins son plus he’s so damaged and Cin just can’t not love him no matter what he’s done. This is another book that will not be for everyone but I however loved it!
Insane! I didn't think When Art Falls could be better the first book in the duet, but it is absolutely incredible. Everything you want in your jealous, possessive, and domineering anti-hero. Book 2 follows Art and Cin's unexpected reconnecting after their break up in the explosive conclusion of book 1. Art, a powerful and resourceful mogul, is on a campaign of revenge, unleashing a monster of retribution on the often defiant Cin.
One of the most volatile and passionately raw relationships I've read. Art is unpredictable and deviant as I've come to enjoy. He is a complete asshole to Cin’s frankly justifiable obstinance. I was often internally screaming by events that transpired surrounding their stormy relationship, from high-speed driving against traffic to dominating acrobats in the sheets. The love scenes were carnal, a manifestation of undeniable compulsion, obsession, and so wickedly intense.
This story is definitely one of my favorite reads. Deliciously dark, steamy, toxic delivered at a heart-pumping pace. Enjoy their love journey but definitely buckle up for the ride.
As entertaining it was, I think it kind of killed the romance. It was so over the top but again from entertainment point of view - pretty awesome.
Both characters were so toxic to each other that they deserved everything what happened to them.
I mean I'm not gonna bring out triggers here. What Art does closer to the end, honestly as I said they are both so toxic I didn't even feel bad or outraged about it.
My biggest thing was that her first child was Trevors. It kind of was a walking testament of her cheating.
I felt end of first book that if H cheats on her or stabs her, good for him. She deserves it and some more, so second whole book was H doing some real fucked up things to h. And for people who says it's an abuse. Yes, she also abuses him physically, so pot meet kettle. They deserve each other hardcore.
Now because of all that I felt romance is dead for good. This is definitely not a normal romance book.
This was all kinds of toxic and what not!? YET I ate it up so quick, it was just so consuming and I couldn’t put it down. I enjoyed it a lot, but let me just rant all the things I disliked about it… despite giving it a 4 star 🫣
I hate Cin for not fighting at all, she took everything thrown her way even tho she was at fault in the past and I didn’t like her for it in the last book, but girl c’mon you aren’t a teen anymore. The girl has no self-respect at alllll. Being insulted in front of tons of people and yet she won’t say anything bec ✨she loves him✨ it was infuriating bec EVERYTIME I was expecting some fight but Nah, nothing *smh* (well she did but only at the end and even that didn’t last long so 🤷🏻♀️).
Art, well I’m not sure whether I love him or want to slap him again, maybe both. He’s psychotic, over the top possessive and jealous. He was obsesseddddd with Cin even after all these years (8 years), sees her once and immediately goes after her. Since he had to share her in the last book, he became immensely insecure and possessive over that fact and didn’t trust her AT ALL. Now I know he is all kinds of bad. And he definitely needed to apologize but he never did? Not ONCE (even tho the author did warn about that yet my stupid self expected some). But listen his obsession, his love for her despite hating her was something I couldn’t unsee, and it is mainly why I enjoyed the book.
I love their chemistry, It was 🥵🥵 This book is all kinds of wrong and not my usual preference (reason given in spoiler point 1 below) but I liked this (even tho I hated it and usually would give it a 1 star for the spoiler point 1 below)…. But okayyy I still forgive him 🫣 makes sense? No, right?
⚠️spoilers below⚠️ •H fucks another woman infront of the h to punish her. (I ABSOLUTELY HATE HATE HATE THIS THING) •calls her a whore/slut infront of his friends in a demeaning way. •H accuses the h of cheating on him EVERYTIME and punishes her for it. •H doesn’t grovel (even tho it was needed) though the author clearly mentioned it before going into the book, so I appreciate that and well that doesn’t exactly make it a spoiler?
While I loved the first book, this one I got so angry with. Art was a jerk and I don't see how she could marry him after the things he did. I won't list them all but no way should she have married him. The relationship was TOXIC. Anyway sex is not a relationship and that's all this book seemed.
Trash, the high ratings are worrying, hero is beyond scum and this is a highly abusive and Toxic relationship. This book is abuse romanticism, and this author needs help! Avoid!
Once again. Have you ever read a book that just literally made you angry? Ladies and gentlemen I give you "When Art Falls" I enjoyed every bit of this book, but it made me angry, mainly because of what Cin endured and what she would say to justify it. I was sitting here like baby you need to get it together. The art in the first book is gone, and you are meeting art who is a complete savage with no remorse. He makes Carter Mahoney from "Untouchable" look like damn saint!! Read this deut it will give you chills and you'll enjoy it at the same time
Mannn, the first book was good. Atleast Art was redeemable enough!!! But this second book, oh godddd, he sucked like anything. There was nothing about him that cud be romanticised, he was too toxic, too evil, too rough, too cruel. He wasn’t loving or caring at all, which really pissed me off. He wasn’t an anti hero, he was literally the villain. And don’t get me started on the delusional pussy ass coward doormat FMC. However I will give the story 3 stars bcoz of the plot. The characters tho… :3
If you love toxic relationships and crazy antihero's this book is for you! Art & Cin are so freaking toxic I crave it!! I loved that book 2 didn't take you on the expected "happily ever after". Their toxicity also didn't just stop because it picked up later down the line. Art is determined to make Cin pay for what happened back in high school, and he makes her pay in his very special way. It was so steamy and dark and I was here for every bit of it! I may need to question my taste in men .... but that won't be happening anytime soon LOL. I will continue to eat up every little bit of Lorrain's dark and delicious men, as many as she wants to give us!
Omg Art and Cin take their love/hate relationship to the extremes. Art is a jealous possessive guy who decides Cin is his and he lets nothing get in his way. These two love each other and are addicted to each other so much that they just can't stay away. An amazing conclusion to this duet and if you like extreme bullying and anti hero's in your romances then this duet is a must read.
I am not sure I have enough words to say how good this books is. I read it in one day. When it was all said and done, I still wanted more... Art has to be one of the most jealous/possessive guys I have every read about. The love/hate that he feels for Cin, he takes it the next level and with some of the things he does to her and for her, there no coming back from. This book is beyond a 5 Star read!!
HATE THIS BOOK. BOTH CHARACTERS ARE TOXIC. ABU$E WRITTEN UNDER THE DISGUISE OF LOVE
I hated the book. I hated art. I hated cin. Both characters were stupid. I get the anti hero & dark romance but this was destructive. There was no love. It was f*king. It was Art making Cin depending and mentally / physically abu$ing her and swearing it’s this magnificent love. Even after the truth is announced, art doesn’t change. There was NO COMPASSION / ROMANTIC LOVE IN THIS BOOK.
So awful. I don’t mind the H being an asshole but I can’t stand it when the h is absolutely pathetic. Naive and stupid is better than just pathetic. I rolled my eye the entire way through this book. I kept thinking it would get better but it didn’t.... wasted time! This is the first review I have ever given a book. Slap the author...she would probably like it.
Spoiler **** H thought the heroine had cheated on him, so fucked another woman in front of her when she was seven months pregnant. When he found out the heroine hadn’t been unfaithful, he didn’t even apologize but they got their HEA anyway.

It was totally worth the wait! Lorrain gave us another 5 star worthy book. If you think book 1 was intense then multiply book 2 by ten thousand lol.
Cin and Art’s relationship is one of those toxic relationships that still works out at the end of the day. No matter who thought that they were wrong for each other, lol they proved them right but still proved them wrong. They were a living conundrum. Ha but whatever. I’m happy that they made their relationship worked to suit them, rough sex, jealousy, psychotic behavior and all... they made it work for them.
I must warn that if you’re on the softer side of romance and don’t have an open mind for something different, then this book is not for you. I enjoyed it. I might be crazy but I think it’s the chemistry and love between them that helped not notice to bad stuff.
This book truly lived up to its genre of Dark Romance and I was not disappointed
