Dana Bedwen may have become a dark mage despite her wishes, but now she needs to learn how to use it. As she graduates from University, she also needs to settle in the rural area she is being sent to, to repay for her education. There, in Kesteven, she'll continue her magical apprenticeship, with her two Magical Masters following there, even as her husband, Detective Jack Taylor, starts uncovering some of the area's dark secrets. The Society of Learning, the remnants of the Inquisition, haven't forgotten about Dana, either, and some of her family's secrets will be revealed, despite Dana's preference for ignorance. Book three of the Alchemist steampunk series.
I liked this series well enough that I'd buy a sequel if it was available. The story is engaging enough that I can ignore the many editing errors and odd turns of phrase. I actually tried to find a bio of the author, as she doesn't seem to be from the US. For example, in the US we rarely call diapers nappies, and people fall asleep, they don't get asleep.
In addition, the cover art on these books is very professional, a weird contrast with the poor editing.
Hoping the next installment sees some improvement and a tighter story line.
and this is why i avoid series. First book was excellent. 2nd one began to ramble and had lots of proofing errors. This last one was difficult to read due to 100s, perhaps 1000s, of proofing errors & typos along with rambling hither and yon. STill a good story, love the epic tales, but disappointing nonetheless - and there's no ending, no resolution, so apparently the tale continues. I doubt i'll read further.
Just like the first two there is a lot of action and mystery in this book. I really enjoyed this series and the way Dana uses her alchemy and magic together. The story moves quickly and before you know it you will be done and asking for more
